The headline is misleading as the article says this is almost certainly not going to happen, but I’m sharing it anyway as we are light on gossip and as an American, it’s one of those weird monarchy things I know nothing about. I could see Andrew lobbying heavily for this and agreeing not to press his rights if the sub in his kid. All about the status. https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1257197/princess-Beatrice-news-coronavirus-uk-update-royal-wedding-queen-prince-Philip-death/amp Princess Beatrice to become ‘acting monarch’ as coronavirus demands royal to step up Princess Beatrice news: Royal to become ‘acting monarch’ as coronavirus demands Princess to step up (Image: GETTY) CORONAVIRUS has caused chaos across the nation which could force Princess Beatrice to take up a new role in the Royal Family. As coronavirus continues to grip the nation, the Queen could be forced to give up her constitutional duties due to the Government’s plans for all over-70s to self-quarantine. There are usually five Counsellors of State on hand to fill-in for Her Majesty if she is unable to. However, the coronavirus may force the Regency Act 1937 to create a sixth Counsellor, according to Royal Central. The current Counsellors of State are the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of York. Two or more Counsellors of State have to be present at one time. Prince Charles is 71, meaning that he may also have to be quarantined along with Prince Phillip who is 98. Prince Harry and Prince Andrew are no longer working royals but this does not mean that they cannot act as Counsellors of State. But it is likely it will be controversial if they take on the role. Prince William is likely to be the only Counsellor who is a working royal and is likely to remain out of self isolation. Counsellors of State are made up of the consort of the Queen and the first four people in the line of succession. Those who are chosen have to be 21 or over even though the heir to the throne becomes qualified when they reach eighteen. If two Counsellors are required and only one is available then Parliament may have to amend the Regency Act. This role is likely to go to Princess Beatrice of York who is ninth in line to the throne. If the Queen and her Counsellors are unable to carry out their duties then the Government could fall apart as someone has to be able to carry out the duties of the sovereign. Tasks undertaken by Counsellors and the sovereign include granting royal assent, issuing royal proclamations, appointing judges and Queen’s Counsel. However, it is likely that the Duke of York will most likely step up as Counsellor, even if he is a controversial choice given his recent links to convicted sex offender billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. Royal historian Marlene Koenig explained that extra Counsellors are needed but that it is unlikely to happen to Princess Beatrice. She said: “In 1944, when Lord Lascelles was a prisoner of war, he was briefly removed as a Counsellor of State and replaced with Princess Alexandra of Connaught. “However, this was not actually legal because the Regency Act does not allow for a replacement. “Lord Lascelles was taken prisoner in 1944. He had replaced the Countess of Southesk as a Counsellor on his 21st birthday a few months earlier. “Princess Elizabeth turned 18-years-old in April 1944 – and she replaced Princess Alexandra, the Countess Southesk’s older sister. “But with Lord Lascelles taken prisoner in June 1944, the King issued a Letters Patent that August putting Alexandra back on the list, even though it was technically not allowed. “So there is precedence, sort of, but in case of the Queen being ill, I think they would have to make do with the group they have.”

    Coronavirus

A friend of a friend has died of Coronavirus in Arizona (actually several family members also had it, but only one fatality). She had underlying health conditions but would not have died had it not been for corona. My friend says the death stats in AZ have not changed since her death because they reported it as being from the underlying condition, not Coronavirus. She’s worried this is much worse and being dramatically underreported because of this. I know this happens a lot because my grandmother died of the flu two years ago. Was perfectly healthy prior to getting the flu. Her death was reported as something like respiratory failure (I honestly don’t remember at the moment) not influenza.

    Coronavirus

Although we all knew it was coming, we just got the official word that my son’s campus (WVU) is shutting down for the year. It’s his freshman year so while it’s not as bad as it is for seniors, he’s still pretty bummed. Not to mention his birthday is Sunday and I’m sure they had plans that didn’t include being locked in with his 16 year old sister.

    Coronavirus

I’m sure MissuTam knows this, but for non locals, DC is doing something less, but similar and one of the local restaurant/bar chains (mostly on Capitol Hill) released a statement saying they wouldn’t follow it. Their statement was so snotty, self serving , and irresponsible. Needless to say, a day and apparently a lot of death threats and boycotts by customers later, they are closing. Kind of like the guy who was complaining in the NYT about all of the supplies he hoarded and the Amazon wouldn’t allow him to price gouge. For as many people not taking this seriously, those who are will not take any bullshit! “However, we will not bow down to pressure from the Mayor’s Office or any group for that matter who covertly is attempting to shut us down. We fully support our employees and our patrons. It is not our burden to bear nor is it our staff’s burden to bear,"

My dad is the same. He pretty much pivots to whatever Fox is telling him to think now. And he’s 70+ with COPD, uses oxygen, and plenty of other crap. He also lives 250 miles away from me, but “luckily” is sickly enough that he doesn’t go out a great deal anyway so isn't putting himself out too much.

    Coronavirus

A teacher at one of the elementary schools in my neighborhood was just diagnosed with coronavirus. So she probably shops at my grocery store, gets gas at my gas station, eats at the restaurants I eat at. So we pretty much figure it’s in the wild in our neighborhood now. Our family is all home from school now and basically not leaving the house other than to go for walks by ourselves. We have a lot of food and won’t need to go to the grocery store for a while, So will just probably hang in the house. My kids are pissed because all of their friends are still hanging out and doing stuff together and we are being strict about it right now. Not a popular move.

    Coronavirus

We got a text message at 11:45 last night saying that our school District was closed today. They had already scheduled a day off on Monday to develop a distance learning plan. I’m guessing at this point we’re not going back for a while. My daughter is in 10th grade so it’s a little bit harder, but it’s hard for the seniors -prom is in three weeks. But their college applications are in and most of them are just waiting in final decisions. The hardest is for the juniors who have to do SATs, many of which are canceled this weekend, all of the sports are canceled for the season which is really hard on kids trying to get scholarships, having a really solid transcript for college applications next year, that kind of thing. The older kids are really worried about how this is going to impact the college situation. But it is what it is. The aerial photos of mass graves in Iran were pretty scary. ETA: On the other hand... My son goes to West Virginia. There are no documented cases in the state of West Virginia but they’re sending everybody home today. Im about to set out on the drive now to go pick him up. Yesterday the brilliant college students decided to have a “we don’t know what’s happening from here on out” blowout block party. Many many hundreds of students had a block party on an isolated street on campus and eventually the cops had to come in and pepper spray them to break up the crowd. I guess they figured they were relatively safe and wanted one last hurrah in case this was it for them. We have no idea if they’re going to go back, but if they do it would only be for a few weeks so it’s kind of weird. So, dumb college students who think they are immortal will be dumb college students who think they are they are immortal! Lets hope that big party doesn’t bite them in the ass later. I vacillate between being terrified and wanting to indulge them in one last bit of fun and naïveté. But that’s not flying once they get home.

    Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson test positive for coronavirus The actor said in an Instagram post that while in Australia, he and his wife had cold-like symptoms and to be safe were tested. March 11, 2020, 9:33 PM EDT Actor Tom Hanks has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Hanks, 63, said in an Instagram post on Wednesday that while in Australia, he and wife Rita Wilson came down with symptoms resembling a cold, as well as body aches and slight fevers. “To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” Hanks wrote. Hanks wrote that they “will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.” “Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?” Hanks wrote. Hanks ended the post by saying “We’ll keep the world posted and updated” and the message “Take care of yourselves!” https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tom-hanks-rita-wilson-test-positive-coronavirus-n1156141

We got the call tonight too. Spring break starts Friday, an extra week off and then classes online beginning March 30 until it’s safe to go back.

    Coronavirus

My son comes home from school on Friday for spring break. I am suspecting he will not be going back to school after spring break but I’m not sure yet. I’m in DC and we have had a pretty significant amount of exposure here (for an example an Episcopal priest who now has it has been giving out communion to 500 parishioners for the last two weekends) although not a lot of cases yet. American University just told the kids they’re not coming back after spring break, at least not right away. I imagine more schools will follow suit. And I imagine schools like my sons, where there aren’t any cases, are worried About kids going home to places that do have it, and then bringing it back with them from vacation. ETA: I know colleges in lots of other places have already made that call, but I think American is the first one in our area that has.

I thought I was the only one bothered by that! Every single outfit. It ruins the way the outfits lay on her. How is no one telling her this?

The allergy season is really ramped up in DC right now because it’s been so warm. So I’m a mess. Today I went to target to buy allergy medicine coincidentally, and I look like a hot mess. You would not imagine how much free space I had to walk around target.

    Harvey Weinstein

I’m not at all confident that it will stand up to appeal, but I can only hope he enjoys his time in jail until then. And give me a break with the being hospitalized. He’s experiencing extreme stress after the conviction??? ugh. So gross watching the entitlement.

“I mean, common sense would dictate if you don't want to be royal, then you can't be "Royal." ?‍♀️“ I think this all goes back to the story of their very first statement - the one that they put out without talking to anyone else. I don’t think they ever wanted to not be royal. I think they had every intention of having the cake and eating it. I don’t think they expected the family to take the hardline “"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen," they said.”
