    What Ever Happened to.....?

Willie Wonka kids; http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/...kids/index.html Augustus, Violet, Mike, Veruca, Charlie the highlights: • We were thrilled when sweet and genuine little Charlie Bucket won a lifetime supply of chocolate in the film. Nowadays, Peter Ostrum fills up buckets of cow patties and other fun stuff as a large animal veterinarian in Glenfield, New York. Hey, he kind of resembles the Candy Man with that killer 'stache. • Violet Beauregarde was a precocious gum chewer who eventually turned into a blueberry. After getting one more gig on the soap opera "Dark Shadows," actress Denise Nickerson turned into an accountant at an engineering plant with a bad haircut. • Augustus Gloop drowned in a chocolate river. If I had to go, that's how I'd want it. Now Michael Bollner is drowning in a sea of success as a tax attorney in Munich. Go Gloop! • Veruca Salt was a spoiled brat who wanted it all ... NOW! It was even rumored that she wanted little Peter Ostrum behind the scenes. So what did Julie Dawn Cole end up with? A successful career in theater, television, and fitness. Oh ... and two kids. Not too shabby. • It was impossible to pull Mike Teevee away from the tube. Since then Paris Themmen has played a whole lotta roles. He was a commercial casting agent, a film production member, a Disney Imagineering employee, a retail salesman, a real estate agent, and a finance guy. He even started his own website, where he sells autographs. Maybe TV does rot your brain.

    The Spice Girls

Been there, done that. I think every parent I know has that first ER visit (usually for a head accident that bleeds like hell and then ends up being a teeny tiny little cut). Then you feel like an idiot when you realize it. Now my kids just bang themselves around all the time and I hardly notice it's so routine!

    The Origin of Suri

I think it is hilarious that so far NONE of the votes are actually for Tom and Katie.

    Kate Hudson

I also read an article somewhere this week claiming she was pregnant.

    Morgan Freeman

Sorry, this made me actually laugh out loud. But, WHAT? Back when I was a kid and Morgan Freeman was Easy Reader on Electric Company I thought he was like the "coolest cat on the planet." To this day I have warm fuzzy feelings about him because of that. But uh - warm fuzzies can only carry a person so far.

Oh - Easy Reader - what have you done!?!

    Phil Spector

Yesterday I just happened to watch "I Dream of Jeannie" for the first time in about 20 years. Phil Spector was on it as himself and not having ever seen him before the mug shot - I was shocked by how... uncrazy... he looked.

    Taylor Kitsch

I agree with all that! It's hard to believe that Tim Riggins of episode 1 has become the heart of FNL, but last week, man did I tear up watching Tim watching Jason from the taxi.

    Twilight Series

I read Breaking Dawn last week and it just about destroyed the series for me. I really disliked it. A LOT. I hate to even think of the movie knowing how the books turn out.

    Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones

CZJ is probably in her late 40's. When she first hit the scene, she was reported to be youmger than me and I was shocked. Then within a few years she was suddenly older than me. It was very odd. But really - where are the high school year books. They have them in Wales, right? Can't someone just show her big bushy eyebrowed photos and come clean with it?

    Twilight Series

I don't know who I would cast, but I know I would NOT cast the people they did. I do LOVE Taylor on FNL. He is so hot, and could totally be Edward. I just hate that they have to blonde up people who aren't blonde. I like JJ Field for Carlisle. I've seen him in a bunch of Masterpiece Theater stuff and have really liked him. He's maybe a bit too old, but in my mind, he works.

    Does anyone read historicals?

Based on comments here, I just read the first two Eloisa James books. While I DID enjoy them, they were a little heavy on the romance and a little light on the Regency. Also, I don't know that I can like Alex. He is such an ass. Hard to reconcile him to the Alex in the next book. Do her later books focus as much on the romance (and the sex) or is there more of a balance? I mean, I'm gonna read them, because they are quick and easy and enjoyable, but just not exactly my cup of tea. That's why I preferred the Lauren Willig books. I'm too picky, I know!

    Naomi Campbell

She flew from London to Brazil to have a cyst removed? I have read enough about how much Brazilians love plastic surgery to be asking what the hell kind of crazy new plastic surgery have they invented that you can only get there. Because this story reeks! Either the reporting is very bad and she was already in Brazil, or that crazy lasy is trying something totally new. Maybe a personality implant?

    Does anyone read historicals?

I just finished it last night. Are there any other authors similar to her. Light on romance, but still regency? Also, from a later period, I have been running through the Anne Perry Monk and Pitt series of mystery books. Easy and light, plus the extra creep factor of her really being a murderess!

    Star Jones

She was on the today show - I think it was this morning, was it only today that Brit got hauled away - talking to Matt and he plugged her show more than once. She gave kind of a sarcastic laugh when he did it. I thought she was snarking on the plugs. I'm assuming it wasn't so amicable.

    Halle Berry

Again with these women and the shoes. How can they even balance on those shoes with that belly? Trust me, there's a reason you want to be barefoot and pregnant. Flat, slip on shoes, Halle.

    What are you reading?

In the last two weeks, I have read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and I will surely mess this up - A Thousand Splendid Sunsets... whatever the next book by the Kite Runner Author is. Both are awful stories of the sad lives of women in Patriarchal societies. Sad but beautiful.

    Sienna Miller

She's at it again. IF I had any respect left for her before, now it's gone. As yinz know, you don't mess with the 'Burgh! http://www.postgazette.com/pg/06284/728938-53.stm Famous or infamous, dry Sienna acts out again Wednesday, October 11, 2006 By Chico Harlan, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Possibly famous and recently infamous actress Sienna Miller found out this weekend that neither distinction could work as a functional form of ID. Sienna Miller Just before midnight Saturday night, bar employees said, Ms. Miller, 24, appeared at the entrance of Folino's Young's Tavern, on Carson Street, without identification. Some five minutes later -- after ducking into the bar, eluding a bouncer who refused to let her inside -- Ms. Miller, in town for the filming of "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh," was spotted inside and escorted back to the Carson Street sidewalk. There, tavern owner Penny Folino and bouncer Dan Kovacs said, a disgusted Ms. Miller proclaimed her identity to all who would listen. "Sienna ripped off her hat and said, 'I am Sienna Miller. I am a famous actress!'" Ms. Folino said. "That's what she did. She was basically throwing a temper tantrum." A spokeswoman from Ms. Miller's publicity office, who was in contact with the actress yesterday, denied the incident occurred. Film publicist Emma Cooper was aware of the Folinos' allegation, but said, "I heard it never took place." Shooting for the movie continued yesterday on the streets of Polish Hill, but Ms. Miller did not appear on the set and could not be reached for comment. Ms. Miller has now generated two spasms of Pittsburgh-related gossip before completing one Pittsburgh-related movie. Though already known for both her acting career and her tabloid-covered relationship with actor Jude Law, Ms. Miller's popularity within the region plummeted recently because of her comments in a Rolling Stone interview. Speaking to the magazine in mid-September, she referred to Pittsburgh by dropping its first letter and substituting an "Sh." According to Ms. Folino and others at the bar, Ms. Miller arrived at Folino's on the same day that she appeared in a photograph on the front page of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, her arm on the shoulder of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. That evening, she wore jeans and came alongside her parents. "But I said, honey, you need ID to drink here to be a patron," said Mr. Kovacs, the bouncer. Five minutes later, he said, he noticed both Ms. Miller and her parents inside the bar, seated at a table. Cocktail waitress Katie Jenkins had already taken Ms. Miller's order: a vodka and tonic, Ms. Jenkins said. Mr. Kovacs suspected Ms. Miller had sneaked in through a side entrance. So he walked to her table and asked again for ID. She didn't have it. Then, after he escorted her to the exit, one of Ms. Miller's parents produced a copy of that morning's paper. "Don't you know who this is?" Ms. Miller's mother asked the bouncer, according to Mr. Kovacs. "Yeah," he responded. "It's the mayor." Ms. Miller, denied her vodka and tonic, stewed outside the bar for 30 minutes, Folino's employees said. Though her parents were invited back to the bar for drinks, the actress refused to return to her hotel room, where she'd left her license, Mr. Kovacs said. "She was going crazy out there, stomping her feet, walking up and down the street," he said. Said Ms. Folino: "There was no reason for her to act like she did. No ID, no entry -- I'm sorry, we can't bend the rules for anybody." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Chico Harlan can be reached at aharlan@post-gazette.com or 412-263-1227.)
