  1. Would love to know what you guys are reading or just give some recommendations and opinions. I'm reading "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb and "Shutter Island" by Dennis Lehaye.
  2. I'm looking for some Chick Lit titles that aren't too explicit. I would like to be able to take the book to work and not get any stares . I've read two of the Shopaholic books and really enjoyed them..they are pretty tame.Any suggestions of books along that line?

    Kim Catrall

Cattrall Lands Bacardi Deal Former Sex And The City star Kim Cattrall has signed a deal to be the face of Bacardi's new cocktail range Island Breeze. The English-born actress, 48, will appear in both print and television advertisements for the Caribbean alcohol giant. Cattrall enthuses, "I have always enjoyed cocktails socially, but I have been conscious of both the calories and drinking in moderation. That is why I agreed to endorse Island Breeze. It is the first lite spirit. Now, I can have great tasting, lighter cocktails that are low in calories. Now that's sexy." Island Breeze contains Bacardi rum, natural fruit flavors and sucralose - a natural-sugar substitute. Cattrall recently starred in advertisements for British tea giant Tetley. http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2005-04-14/

Country Stars To Wed Country music star Garth Brooks has proposed to singer Trisha Yearwood on stage in front of 7,000 fans. The reclusive singer, 43, popped the question to his girlfriend after a statue of him was unveiled at the Legends In Bronze event in California on Wednesday - and Yearwood readily accepted. Yearwood struck up a relationship with chart-topping Brooks after working as his backing vocalist 15 years ago. Yearwood will be Brooks's second wife, and fans hope the forthcoming marriage will be third time lucky for Yearwood, 40, who has been married twice before. Other country celebrities honored with statues at the ceremony included Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2005-05-27/

    Gwen Stefani/No Doubt

Anyone heard Stefani's remake of "It's My Life"? She didn't butcher it by any means and it is a good sunny day driving song. I still just love the original so much.
  6. I noticed in Barnes and Noble yesterday that they had a big display for "House of Leaves". They've come up with a new fancy edition..fyi.
  7. What did you think? It was one of my favorite books by Picoult. After that I felt like there was a little too much of a pattern to them. But, I really enjoyed that one. I really liked it. My favorite is still "My sister's keeper'...that one just pulled me in so much..couldn't turn the pages fast enough. (I still have quite a few of her books to read yet..agree she does have a pattern to her writing but still enjoy her books so much).
  8. Just finished "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult Starting "Critical Conditions" by Stephen White
  9. Just finished "Carrie Pilby" (red dress ink) by Caren Lissner. One of the more insightful chick lit books that I've read...it's about a quirky genius type with lousy social skills.
  10. I loved that!I don't know why they don't film Rendell's work, that would make a great movie! In an interview once, she said Bette Midler once optioned THE KILLING DOLL, but nothing came of that.Another author I met told me Rendell's books don't seem that popular in the U.S.I don't get that; she reminds me very much of P.D. James whose work is frequently filmed and always sells very well.I hadn't heard about this author until recently . I went to Borders to check her out and they only had a very few of the large, trade paperbacks. Luckily, I did find a ton of her books at a used bookstore that I frequent.
  11. I'm not sure if any of you guys have read this book "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. I've been reading alot of buzz about it on the internet..it's supposed to be very good.
  12. That was a nice story..good to hear she's classy. The Lovely Bones truly touched me.
  13. Just finished "To Doon with Deat" by Ruth Rendell
  14. Just finished "Lucia,Lucia" by Adriana Trigiani..loved it
  15. Thanks to all who participate in this thread..I get so many ideas.
  16. Just finished "Armageddon" by Lehaye/Jenkins
  17. The cover of that books keeps haunting me when I go to the bookstore. I'll be a pile of mush if I ever read it.
  18. Just finished "Stolen Lives: 20 years in a desert prison" by Malika Oufkir. Amazing story.
  19. Do you read crime thriller/mystery type books? I'm not sure if read mass market type writers. John Sanford "Prey" books are exellent (Rules of Prey is the first). Karen Slaughter's series (Blindsighted is the first) and Tess Gerritsen's series (The Surgeon is the first) are very good. I also enjoy James Patterson. I know people complain that he is total lightweight but I love his Alex Cross leading man. The Cross book are super fast reads. Have you tried any of them? They can be graphic type books not sure if you read those (Funny these type books don't bother me but horror vampire books..I can't handle ).
  20. Finished "A Sight for Sore Eyes" by Ruth Rendell. The author takes her time setting up the characters..very creepy. I had never read her before.
  21. They are very explicit sexually. I've heard people say that the first six or so are really good...fabulous...but because of a plot device, the latter ones start to become more sex than anything else. I haven't read them all myself, but I have heard this from many people. They are pretty gory as far as violence goes, as well, from my understanding. Hope this helps. Lots of people really love the books; if you were going to try one, I'd start with Guilty Pleasures, which is the first Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter book. Sorry for the late post. Thanks for the info I'm thinking it's not my cup of tea. If you want a good vampire read that's not gory, you could try Charlaine Harris's books. They are set in the American South and although I haven't read them, i've heard great things about them (I have the first one on my shelf). I looked at that series on Amazon..great reviews (also looks like HBO might pick it up as a series). Those seem more to my liking. I'm writing it down on my list. Thanks for the suggestion

  23. Just finished "Cabinet of Curiosities" (oops my bad from an earlier post..by the writing team of Preston/Child)....very creepy and an interesting moral dilemma proposed.Has anyone read "Kane and Abel" older book by Jeffrey Archer? How is Archer as a writer? I've never read his books.
  24. I have't read the book The Other Boleyn Girl but thanks for the info on the movie. Wonder if Bana will have to put on extra poundage to play Henry
