Play-based learning IS learning! Don't worry about academics, especially at their ages. They're doing great And yes, we are finding ABC Mouse to be very buggy too. My daughter can only access it early in the morning; otherwise, forget it. At any rate, it's more important for them to feel safe and secure -- worrying about learning a bunch of stuff will only add to the stress. One day at a time!

OMG the thought of holding a zoom class with a bunch of friggin three-year-olds is MADNESS. Does she have ABC mouse? My school district gave us a code you could use to sign up for free - let her play on that and call it a day. I'm very pro technology, haha. I'm thankful my second grader's teacher has reasonable expectations re: virtual learning. Most of his schoolwork is completed in an hour. (I know his teacher has a lot of family over in Italy so I imagine virtual learning is the last thing on her list of concerns right now.) My daughter, who is in half-day kindergarten, has so many lessons, videos, worksheets, etc. that at a certain point I have to stop, since I need my computer to do my work. And I don't have endless ink and paper to print out 20 pages of worksheets a day, especially when some of them are only identifying shapes. Our district is still keeping Spring Break on the schedule for April and honestly I've never needed it more ?

Axios has a great infographic that predicts when each state will peak - some are not until May: https://www.axios.com/coronavirus-states-peak-hospitals-53274e0e-69b8-4dc7-b069-fb27955c559a.html And yes John and Chrissy

    Coronavirus

aaaaaaand I am sick again, my sore throat/headache returning last night. (Not allergies - I get the manic sneezing fits that require a box of tissues to fully resolve.) I'm not sure what's happening over here. Also my children started virtual school on Monday and honestly I'd rather they not learn at all. Impossible for me to run two virtual classrooms while attempting to work from home myself. (I always work from home, so I'm used to it, but throwing in virtual learning is .... not fun.) Not a knock on the teachers -- I know they are doing the best they can with a shitty situation, as are we all. I am glad March is over but fearful for what April will bring.

    Coronavirus

It will take a period of several weeks for it to sufficiently slow the spread of the virus. Obviously, not everyone can stay inside all the time -- people have to run the the grocery (although that should be done only when absolutely necessary) and lots of essential persons are still required to work -- but those of us who can stay inside SHOULD continue to do so to slow down the spread. While a lot of people WILL get it regardless -- there is no vaccine, no herd immunity, etc. -- the point of staying inside is to prevent everyone from getting it at the same time. If everyone gets it at the same time, hospitals will be overwhelmed. If everyone goes to the hospital at the same time, there won't be enough doctors, nurses, hospital beds, ventilators, medicine, etc. to go around. However, if everyone stays inside as much as possible, those severe cases will appear more gradually, over a longer period of time. That's important so that hospitals are not overrun with the severely ill and dying. If you're looking for a time frame, I'm thinking most of April will be spent this way, at home. If people listen, and don't socialize or go places they don't need to go, these restrictions can hopefully be lifted some time in May. Otherwise, we could be hunkering down into well into June, and that's a bummer all around.

Yes public transportation is a big problem, although from what I have seen lately, public transport in NYC is a ghost town. New Yorkers also eat out a lot - I remember seeing a photo of a packed NYC restaurant on like March 15th or something, and they were practically seated right on top of one another. Remember that those in the hospital now were infected about 2.5 weeks ago (one week of incubation + one week of minor-ish symptoms at home + a move to the hospital after that) so hopefully as more and more stay inside, the curve will flatten -- it will just take some time to see the results. I have a feeling the next couple of weeks will be really bad on a national level, so I think it's best for everyone to mentally prepare for that now. Hopefully those of us outside of metropolitan areas will not see what they will see. May, I think, should be better.

Doing better here - all symptoms gone except for the lingering cough. School here has been canceled since March 13, and, with the exception of 1) running to the drive-thru bank and 2) taking a scenic drive one bored Sunday, I haven't left the house since March 14. The homebody introvert in me is okay with it, but I wonder when even I will be able to crack. My kids officially start virtual learning today, so wish me luck!

@witchkitten oh nooooo ... I was comforting myself with the thought that I had at least already been exposed and was now putting it behind me. But just a good reminder that, no matter what, no one should become complacent and think "oh well I've had it so I can relax" etc.

    Coronavirus

Morning, everybody - Just read an interesting article out of Ohio that was notable to me for the fact that it says Woke up with another splitting headache, so that sucks. Still have this @#$%^& cough. Energy levels continue to be realllll low. On the positive side, sore throat and achiness have gone. In the absence of a fever, I was telling myself I was being dramatic about a cold, but now after reading this article I swear I have it. Thankful that it seems like, at this point in the week, I no longer need to worry about taking a bad turn for the worse, and if bad headaches and a crappy cough will be my lot for another week, then I am grateful that's the worst I'll face. Meanwhile my area is bragging about its low numbers despite refusing testing to all but the slimmest margin of people, so people like me who might have it will never know. Very frustrating. Princess, I hope your friend who is experiencing similar symptoms is doing well, and I hope ALL CHITCHATTERS continue in good health. And hey, 2020 can only get better -- right?? RIGHT???

    Coronavirus

Hey everybody. So far today it's 10:30 AM my time and no symptoms except for this darn cough. (I've been up since 5 and slept well, and the cough didn't wake me in the night.) Thankful the headache, sore throat, and general sense of exhaustion are gone (although not ruling out an afternoon nap if it creeps back in). Wish people with mild cases were able to get tested b/c I'd love to know if I have it or just a cold. However, Day 5 is generally when cases turn south for people (if they go south at all...). I'm not too worried about that happening, since I haven't had it bad thus far, but tomorrow is my Day 5, so if I am ok after that I will cough I mean breathe a sigh of relief. ? Hope all of you are hanging in there!!

Feeling okay so far -- cough is definitely worse though. I woke up feeling mildly better (sore throat and cough still present, but no fever, and the general achiness had vanished), but at about 8 AM an awful headache knocked me sideways and made me so nauseated I immediately took two Tylenol. This was the first time I'd taken any medicine at all. Once the Tylenol kicked in, all symptoms disappeared save for the cough, which is definitely not nice. It's a dry cough and often when I inhale I just can't NOT cough. Like there's an itch in the throat and you just have to cough, I can't really explain it. I'm running a humidifier and I have a big fish tank in the room here, so the air isn't dry. That being said, still no fever and still have my sense of taste and smell. And I'm not short of breath and the tightness in my chest is gone. Headache gone, but that's probably thanks to the Tylenol. The cough is stubbornly persistent, though. The good news is that I've actually been able to get off the sofa today and get some things done -- nothing too crazy, mind you -- but all least it feels good to be somewhat active. The past two days have seen me unable to get off the sofa so I'm thankful to move around a bit. Thank you everyone for checking in

I just went through the symptom checker via the CDC and it was basically like 'welp you have some of the symptoms but there's nothing we can do so just keep monitoring yourself' which isn't exactly helpful

I don't have a fever, so I don't think a test will be available for me unless or until that happens.

Now have a dry cough in addition to sore throat. Definitely not allergies - I'm an allergy pro. Kinda getting a little nervous. For now I still have my sense of smell and taste, and, although my temperature is fluctuating quite a bit, it hasn't hit the fever threshold, so I guess I'll just keep on keeping on

I am shocked to see that Amazon is experiencing great delays in shipping. I live in an area where same-day delivery is often possible. Now, I can't find a single item that I can get before the end of this week. I know they are experiencing uncommonly high demand and not a lack of workers -- although that, I fear, will change in the coming weeks. My husband (an electrician who works in a hospital) wasn't sure if he would be told to go home when he went into work today. Instead, he was told they are building temporary overflow structures in anticipation of a high number of COVID cases, so he will continue on for now (but thankfully outside, not in a high-traffic area). I wish this would all go away. OH OH - the guardian (uk) and le Monde (Paris) are reporting doctors are finding that ibuprofen may exacerbate COVID. If you get a fever and suspect you might have it -- do NOT take ibuprofen. Take Tylenol. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/14/anti-inflammatory-drugs-may-aggravate-coronavirus-infection

yeah, and that's bullshit. That's why this shit burns through communities, because people think they're too important to follow recommendations and they don't take it seriously until it's far too late. We have people here doing the same - playdates and get-togethers.....it's mind-blowing.

Before the end of the day yesterday, our school district announced a closure until March 30. I think reopening so soon will be optimistic but who knows. I'm finding it hard to remain optimistic right now in general.

    Coronavirus

My kids school is closed today for cleaning and to allow the teachers time to prepare for virtual learning. In his message, the superintendent was hopeful schools would reopen on Monday, but I fully expect by the time Monday comes, schools will be closed for two weeks -- at least. My daughter is in kindergarten and my son is in second grade -- I could not care less whether they make up the work or not, but I agree older students don't have that luxury. If necessary I'm hoping the governor rescinds the 180-day requirement because if ever a time called for it, I believe that time is now. My kids and I can hunker down, but my husband will continue to go to work for now. He's an electrician in a hospital, and if he doesn't work he doesn't get paid -- no paid sick days or days off. I'm trying to convince him that he may need to just eat the time -- we can dip into emergency funds if necessary, we are lucky we can do that -- I'm just so scared I don't know how else to feel. I agree with dixiedoodah we all need to keep chatting! It will help us feel more connected to others while we practice our social distancing (haha) and will help us check in on one another too

    Harvey Weinstein

Kate Beckinsale posted to Instagram following his sentencing. I can't figure out how to embed the post but here is a link, with the caption pasted below: These photos were taken at the premiere of Serendipity on October 5,2001. We all refused to go because holding a premiere mere weeks after 9/11 with the city still smoking felt like the most insensitive, tone deaf, disrespectful idea possible .But Harvey insisted. We flew into New York and somehow got through it. The next morning Harvey called me and asked if I would like to bring my less than two year old daughter to his house for a playdate with his similar aged daughter I said ok. I turned up and he immediately called for his nanny to take the babies to another room to play. I went to go with them and he said “No, you wait here .” The minute the door closed he started screaming “you stupid fucking CUNT, you CUNT you ruined my premiere .” I had no idea what he was talking about and started to shake. He said,”If I am throwing a red carpet you get in a tight dress, you shake your ass you shake your tits you do not go down it looking like a fucking lesbian you stupid fucking cunt .” The shock made me burst into tears.I tried to say “Harvey, the city is on fire, people are still looking for their relatives none of us even felt the premiere was appropriate much less coming out dressed like it’s a bachelor party .” He said,”I don’t care -it’s my fucking premiere and if I want pussy on the red carpet that’s what I get”.Screaming. Livid. I managed to get myself and my child out of there and yes that was one of many experiences I had that there was no recourse for,and falls under no felony. But I WAS punished for it, and for other instances where I said no to him for years, insidiously and seeming irreversibly. Hearing that he has gone to prison for 23 years is a huge relief to me on behalf of all the women he sexually assaulted or raped, and I hope will be a deterrent to that sort of behavior in this and any other industry. Having said that, the crimes that are not crimes, the inhumane bullying and sick covert abuse for which there is STILL no recourse no matter who you tell(and I did tell),these too need to go.I hope and pray that we as an industry can start to actually outlaw all abuses of power and expose them and eliminate them, for all genders, forever. And Rose, brava ❤
