    Sci Fi TV

PS and "syfy" can apparently be trademarked, unlike the generic "scifi" Ugh....

Never saw that - looking at the description, it's different (but, like the Librarian stuff, similar in concept) Looks like Sanctuary gathered beings? Warehouse 13 gathers objects.

This "syfy" crap? Oy. It's SCIence FIction. Why must the letters be changed? Watched Warehouse 13 last night. Cute. I'll continue to record it (what can I say - I like the Librarian movies with Noah Wyle too ) Also--something I had not heard about (bad me!) is the new Torchwood miniseries that starts July 20 on BBCAmerica - I know I'll want to watch that: http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/262/index.jsp And--Eureka season 3 part 2 starts up on Friday (July 11) Summer is so much more fun (on tv) than it used to be!

Well if she WAS pregnant, she's not now......

    What are you reading?

Is American Wife the Curtis Sittenfeld book about a character awfully similar to Laura Bush? I really didn't like her writing in Prep (the book was disturbing, if only for how much I remembered from my own prep school days - and how much was so different) Anyway - if the writing is the same, I don't think I'll read it, but she had quite a few years between books so it's possible her style matured/changed.....

How awesome was that match? I never thought it was going to end! They both played such great tennis! I couldn't make up my mind who I wanted more to win - so I was cheering for both of them!

    What are you reading?

Thanks for the review - I've been "eh" for her books but just read the review for Certain Girls (in the Costco magazine ) and thought it looked intriguing....OK, library book it is! I'm reading Queen of Subtleties by Susannah Dunn (2005). It's interesting - overlaying stores of Anne Boleyn and the confectioner for Henry VIII (the sugar concoctions she makes are called "subtleties") I love Tudor England history and fiction around that period, and am enjoying this so far.

    Oprah Winfrey

Men having sex with men? (Careful what abbreviations you use--I work in a field where MSM means exactly what I just typed) I have a best friend and we've travelled together and shared a bed (not in a sexual way) and I completely understand that kind of friendship. If that's what Oprah & Gayle have, good for them. And if they have something more, I wish they'd be open about it.....

    Oprah Winfrey

Well, if I had Oprah's money, I would take my best friend around the world. And her husband. And my husband. And as many of our friends & family as I could fit on that yacht

    Oprah Winfrey

Geez, this is like an episode of Starter Wife And that show was cancelled..... And yeah - I don't write stuff down that would "destroy" my life. I don't take pictures of it either [of course, I'm boring and don't HAVE any secrets that would destroy my life, so.....]

    Matthew McConaughey

Well, whatever relationship they have, it seems to be working - and he does seem to LOVE being a dad....

    Morgan Freeman

The June Vogue (I just read this weekend) has a pictorial with Freeman & model Lara Stone. Wouldn't have thought twice about it any other time, but he's hugging her and she's gotta be 50 years younger....He's playing Nelson Mandela in a movie soon. This report (of the "relationship" with his stepgrandaughter) hasn't seemed to get much airtime, so maybe there's nothing there? Fingers crossed, right??

    Morgan Freeman

Sure. But at the same time - the main who mainly raised me, whom I call "dad", was my stepfather, and he has been divorced from my mom for 19 years. But he's still my dad. Just because there is no legal relationship between us now, doesn't change our family relationship. So if Morgan and his (soon to be ex-) wife practically raised this granddaughter since she was a young child, the fact that there's no blood relationship doesn't change the fact that emotionally it's still incest. And still weird, twisted, ill advised and fucked up (and even more of an age difference than Woody, whoulda thunk someone would knock Woody off this particular throne, eh?)

    What are you reading?

Just finished B is for Beer and am halfway through Wild Ducks Flying Backward - both by Tom Robbins (a "children's" book and a collection of short pieces--many from Esquire over the years) I haven't read Tom Robbins in a few years though he's one of my favorite authors. Jitterbug Perfume is in my top 5 favorite books. I have to dig it out of my library and reread for the umpteenth time this summer. He has such a great way with words (though I do think he's one of those authors whose style you either like or hate - not many in-betweens with him). This is from his review of the Doors from 1967:

Megan Fox & Brian Austin Green

Caveat - she won't be "beautiful" forever, and there's ALWAYS a new starlet, younger & prettier, just around the corner....So if she keeps opening her mouth, I hope she keeps investing her money....

    General Sports Chatter

We had MASSIVE thunderstorms starting about 9:30 eastern....Knocked out our satellite in the middle of the 2nd period So I had to listen to the recap on the satellite radio hockey channel this morning.....Too bad for the Wings. Friday's game is going to be INTENSE. All the better, as far as I'm concerned--I really do like watching good, well-matched teams play a great game of hockey....Even when my boys lose

My husband stopped shaving last week in honor of the playoffs. About halfway through the Saturday game (I think when the Pens were down 3-0 still) he went into the bathroom and shaved it off, since clearly his attempt to grow a beard wasn't helping them any.....At that point, nor did his shaving

    Ashlee Simpson

From Page Six today: June 4, 2009 -- ASHLEE Simpson is married to Pete Wentz and she's the mother of his child, but she's apparently still insecure when it comes to her man's former flames. An out-of-control Simpson loudly trash-mouthed "Gossip Girl" actress Michelle Trachtenberg on Monday night at the "DJ Hero" video game party at LA's Wiltern Theatre, according to PerezHilton.com. PHOTOS: Celebs at DJ Hero Video Game Party Ashlee, Jessica Simpson's younger sister, had to be restrained at the event where Jay-Z and Eminem performed. The trouble started when Wentz and Simpson were seated near Trachtenberg, who dated Wentz before Simpson met the Fall Out Boy bassist. According to PerezHilton: "The evening started off very civilly. Pete and Ashlee had a pleasant conversation with Michelle and her boyfriend for close to 20 minutes, and even showed [Trachtenberg] some baby pictures of [Ashlee's] little boy, Bronx." But then Simpson started drinking. "Things got out of control," an insider was quoted. An increasingly loud Simpson began to give Wentz a lap dance while staring directly at Michelle and hurling insults at her. "She was grinding up on Pete like a stripper. It was actually pretty disgusting," a witness told the Web site. Things reached a climax when Simpson screamed at a confused Trachtenberg, "I hope you know, the whole time you were dating Pete, I was [bleep]ing him!" A bystander dragged Simpson away from Trachtenberg, who once starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," while Wentz looked mortified. Trachtenberg's spokesperson didn't return Page Six's calls. But Simpson's rep said, "It was just a misunderstanding. Ashlee has since apologized to Michelle and they remain on good terms." Meanwhile, Wentz and Simpson will celebrate his 30th birthday this weekend at club Bank at the Bellagio.

    Kate Hudson

I think this season has been better than last season - I love the new assistant, Timmy - every scene he's in cracks me up completely! Has anyone seen the trailer for Nine yet? Does Hudson look any good in it? (scratch that - does it look like she can act in it - I think she looks good most of the time )

Oliver Hudson is on Rules of Engagement - so-so comedy, but he IS hot (plus I love Patrick Warburton) so we watch it ;-)

    What are you reading?

Just finished the 3rd Ariana Franklin "Mistress in the Art of Death" boosk: Grave Goods. I like that series! Now reading 3rd in trilogy by Kasey Michaels "Mischief 24/7" (mystery/romance - descendants of characters from her Romney Marsh series, which is great historical romance/intrigue fiction if you like that) I noticed Lauren Willig has a new book out, "Temptation of the Night Jasmine" so I'll have to request that at the library--her books are wonderful--thanks to whomever here recommended them to me!!

    Drew Barrymore

We don't have HBO so I'm very much looking forward to a video release of Grey Gardens! I'm especially bummed about not having HBO because I heard they aired the original documentary just afterwards? And I've never seen that and want to. If you're interested, the New York Magazine reposted on its website an article from 1972 (?) about Grey Gardens, from Gail Sheehy: http://nymag.com/news/features/56102/

Yeah, that's what I meant about Lainey's reports from a few months back, and then her appearance at the Globes....

    Drew Barrymore

One benefit Drew has had is that when she was at her lowest point, it was fairly private. Yes, there was gossip & publicity, but NOTHING like there is today. For addicts craving attention (like Lindsay now, and possibly Drew back then) that could be an insurmountable obstacle. I don't know. I think Drew has done a lot - she's moved into producing and from all I read, takes it seriously and does a good job. She has fun, but she also surrounds herself with good people. I think she got the worst of the addictions out of her system while she was still young. Recent reports (from Lainey, then others about her appearance at the Golden Globes) aren't encouraging though - I'd hate to see her sucked down again when she's doing so well artistically & on the business side.
