they look really happy & sweet! and here i always thought she wasn't into dudes...

there was a drag queen at the drag bar where i used to go in college who had butt implants! they were much huger than miss alba's butt, sooooo...ok. i know this is so wrong, but it makes me a ltitle happy to see cellulite and cankles on jessica alba. i'm not being mean-- just saying it's good to see SOME of these actresses are human!

hey, pitt-lover, sorry to hear about your struggles, but i applaud you for being in recovery.of course you're right-- again, i think it speaks to our general lack of capacity for individual thought. the PR machine is infiltrating everyone's thoughts and it's so disturbing.

*sigh* i loved sherilyn fenn the best... how sad is this-- as a 12 y/o watching twin peaks i wrote her a fan letter! she sent me the nicest letter/picture back.

it's such a tricky issue in general...while anorexia is an awful, awful thing, and i do believe many young women are repeatedly brainwashed by being force-fed falsity from the media, it is also important to remember that obesity is at an all-time high in the us. i think both of these being such big issues right now speaks to a linkage-- a linkage that exists because of the mass consumption culture of which we're now a part. either consume too much or too little, but either way-- food is now a choice as opposed to necessary for survival. scary, isn't it, that the us in particular (and, increasingly, western european nations) focuses so extremely on weight & volitional food issues when more and more people around the world are starving...

i am a size 2-4 and i am far from unhealthy skinny...

wildfire, you crack me up! "fiery" is definitely an appropriate description...but yes, i so agree! um, if your man left his wife for you when you were a child, what do you think is going to happen once you reach real adulthood....

by the way, soho, if you like mystery novels, check out paco ignacio taibo. his novels are quite surreal and strange, and really twist up the whole hard-boiled genre. a lot of his books talk about the current state of mexico in a roundabout way. he's one of my favorites. really terrific. also, i can't recommend mario vargas llosa enough. he's peru's most famous writer and he veers from denigrations of south american society to these wonderfully free-wheeling accounts of cosmopolitan life in lima to off-the-wall discussions of art history! he is so wonderful and fun and lush and heartbreaking and thought-provoking. check out "aunt julia & the scriptwriter" for an introduction... but "the war of the end of the world" is my favorite. it's based on a true story about a town in brazil that is established by this madman prophet and his crew of prostitutes, thieves, beggars... and they make a military stand against the brazilian army. it's incredibly epic and may be my favorite book of all time. sorry for the long post. i'm a book junkie.

i've been reading "a short history of tractors in ukrainian" for light reading... it's really funny and well-written. lately it's been all i can do to read my new yorker every week!i start going back to school part-time in january for my masters, so i think my reading that's not social work-related will drop substantially.

now i really love matt damon... samantha morton is one of my favorite actresses! has anyone seen "morvern callar"? oh my god, she is so freaking amazing in that movie. i HIGHLY recommend the movie, by the way. it's quite distressing, though, be warned!

hear, hear! down with barffleck!

jeez, matt damon has always pinged my gaydar. maybe he just doesn't even know he's in the closet!for some reason, i've got a soft spot for him. he just seems like a nice guy. perhaps it's also due to my rampant hatred for ben affleck...!
