Royal Wedding

Recommended Posts

Yes, I got up at 3am to watch BBCAmerica coverage. Have been following Lainey's tweets (she's covering for ctv in London) and chatting with some of my high school friends on Facebook - there have been a few of us (who all remember watching the 1981 wedding....) up and chatting....

Young bridesmaids & pages so cute - never thought they'd be so well-behaved. But they're adorable!

Love love LOVE the wedding dress. My goodness! The waist is fabulous and looks SO GOOD on her.

I was impressed with the dress too. Flattering, yet demure. Well done.

I think the Aston Martin has been my favorite part of the day, well, second to the dress. Did I mention how much I like that dress? I know the knockoffs are going to be horrendous though....

I didn't think I'd care to see any more than the dress but found myself glued to the entire thing (for the most part...some of the hymns I ignored). Then I went into work and put it on in there - and got to see both(!) kisses. So I was happy

I also loved the car. To me it showed a few things, but most noteably that they have a personality as a couple. That they know each other well enough to have that personality says so much more about them as a couple. It bodes better than only having met your groom 13 times prior to the wedding!

That scene brought a smile to my face.

They looked happy and I hope it lasts.

I started watching at 4 and watched the whole thing then watched it again in re-runs then watched the clips. I'm still not sick of it.

I thought the dress was so beautiful, simple and elegant. Unlike poor Diana who was still a teenager and dressed like one. When Kate turned to leave the Abbey and walked down the aisle, she looked like the Queen she will some day be. Her sister did a wonderful job and Harry performed all of his duties well, too. The whole thing went off without a hitch.

I feel good about this marriage. They have been together so long and must know each other well enough by now to know that they want to be together forever.

Completely agree - as a couple, they know each other well enough to know they'll last, and she's also had time to learn if she'll be able to handle the pressure of being a member of the royal family. And most have said that a) the Palace has given her a TON more training than Diana received ; and B) William is incredibly supportive and protective of her - unlike his father with Diana. I think it bodes well, and I wish them a long & happy life together.

I loved the whole thing, but I was a Diana freak back in the day so it's not surprising that I loved it! LOL

I did find myself wondering, had Diana been alive, where would she have been seated during all of this? Would they have seated Charles in between Diana and Camilla? Would they make her sit in the second row behind Charles and Camilla? Would they have paired Diana up with Kate's brother, since he was the only male without any kind of official type escort? Would Camilla's granddaughter still have been one of the flower girls?

I have to wonder if Diana was still alive would Charles and Camilla even be married? I am thinking the people of England would not have accepted that. Maybe he would have given up the throne like his Great-uncle did

I would hope that Charles would have been allowed to marry whomever he wanted, since they'd already gone ahead and allowed the divorce. There wouldn't have been anything to gain by keeping him a single divorce, would there have been? Well, revisionist history.....Has everyone read Tina Brown's bio of Diana? I finally read it earlier this winter. She must have been difficult to live with (even as a child - drama queen - with a good side, to be sure....but really, what a mismatched couple she & Charles were.) But Charles was far more of a hands-on father than his own father was - I have always liked Charles - so I choose to believe that the boys have the good qualities of BOTH their parents - no one ever says that. But I hope it's true.

I always thought a lot of that was Diana's doing. If she hadn't insisted on being a hands on mother and if she hadn't raised those boys to live as much of a normal life as possible given their circumstances, I don't think Charles would have been as hands on all on his own. I think she helped him to see that the way he was raised wasn't normal or good for a child and led by example how to be a parent. He never really had that with his own parents.

Harry and William are both very close to their father, which I think is overlooked sometimes. I read something in the British press this week that Charles is delighted his son has been able to marry for love, as it was denied him until much later in life, and Camilla is reportedly very protective of Kate.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say :4biggrin: You just said it more succinctly. They actually have a pretty good relationship with their grandfather, too, I've read. I do think that for a certain generation/type of man, being a grandfather who is caring is much easier than being a caring/hands-on father.....Multiply that by the stiff-upper-lipness of british royalty.....

I read somewhere (so much coverage, so little time ;-) that Carole Middleton's dress was a bit of a thumbing the nose at Camilla? Because the designer was a favorite of Diana's, and apparently Camilla & Carole weren't getting along very well during the wedding planning? Seems a bit of a reach for me, though I did also hear that one of Carole's early dress choices was vetoed by the Queen as being inappropriate (was it sleeveless?) Such drama over relatively trivial issues. But I wasn't a bridezilla, what do I know :jawdrop:

She vetoes one of Carole's dresses but doesn't veto that joke of a hat that one of granddaughters wore?

Princess Beatrice's hat was just a silly bit of frippery. It wasn't inappropriate in the way (I guess) that a sleeveless dress on the mother of the bride would have been. Just a guess....

Wonder whose outfits the Queen truly did voice her opinion on, pre-wedding?

I'll bet my British backside she approved the wedding dress!! There's no way on God's green earth she didn't know what it looked like.

While standing in line at the grocery store, I've noticed the mags/rags have already started in with the negative crap about these two. -_- That was quick.

Those two (Beatrice and Eugenie) are brilliant. They got everyone talking about them at someone else's wedding, and not just some wedding but THE wedding. Yeah for the PR stunt they managed to pull off with just a hat. :D Just today Beatrice is on the front of EOnline.com.

I should probably bring up the other Royal thread but I'm too lazy ;-) Anyone else heard the rumors Charlene Wittstock tried to run away from Monaco a few days ago? The Today Show reported this morning it was reportedly about rumors Albert fathered yet another child out of wedlock. Does that man NEVER use a condom? Or does he have sex with women who put pinholes in them, wanting a life of luxury with his name on their kids' birth certificate?

In any event, the civil ceremony has occurred. Lainey reporting (from French papers?) that they confiscated Charlene's passport. Oy!

(Her dress was one of my favorites at Will & Kate's wedding - HATE that blue dress she has on - looks like she threw a jacket over an old-fashioned nightgown. Ugh)
