Barasso, Hippodrome's co-owner, told the AP that 50 Cent's entourage and bodyguards followed him into the audience. A fight reportedly ensued that ended with the early Saturday morning arrest of two men for disturbing the peace. Local police were also looking into a shooting that happened nearby, to investigate if the two events were linked.Barasso told the AP that the club was so packed that he could not tell if the fight erupted into anything more severe than pushing. 50 Cent Ready to "Massacre" Charts

EOnline.com

by Charlie Amter

Jan 11, 2005, 7:25 AM PT

Rap megastar 50 Cent is about to massacre his rivals--on the charts, anyway.

St. Valentine's Day Massacre, Fiddy's follow-up to his multiplatinum-selling debut, Get Rich or Die Tryini, is finally set for release March 8, his label announced Monday.

The highly anticipated disc has been delayed twice, with its most recent release date having been Feb. 15, the day after Valentine's.

In a brief press release, the laconic hip-hopper said, "Look out, I'm about to do it again."

Not that Fiddy has to say anything to hype St. Valentine's Day Massacre; the disc is expected to rocket straight to the top of the charts when it bows in March.

The Queens-born rapper's debut was 2003's best-selling release and spawned the hit tracks "In Da Club," "P.I.M.P" and "Wanksta."

The 27-year-old's 2004 wasn't bad, either. According to the New York Times, the Eminem protégé pulled in more than $50 million last year thanks to royalties from Get Rich and lucrative endorsement deals with clothing company Ecko Unlimited and Reebok, which makes his G-Unit footwear.

But 2005 is shaping up to be Fiddy's most successful year to date.

In addition to the rapper's sophomore studio set, the G-Unit ringleader is set to appear in his first feature film role (Locked and Loaded) and his first videogame title in '05.

And, in a sign of the times, 50 Cent is the latest rapper in the beverage game, buying a share of Glacéau, the New York-based company behind VitaminWater and SmartWater. vitamin water brand. The hip-hopper will have his own special grape-flavored super-water, Formula 50, out by March.

But the man known to his mother as Curtis Jackson's first order of business is prepping new material for hungry fans.

The lead single from St. Valentine's Day Massacre, "Candy Shop," is being serviced to radio this week, according to Interscope publicist Greg Miller.

Miller also confirmed that "Piggy Bank," a song generating controversy in New York, will be on St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

The diss track reportedly takes swipes at rappers Fat Joe, Ja Rule and just married couple Nas and Kelis.

Influential New York hip-hop deejay Funkmaster Flex refused to play the track recently when 50 handed him an advance because the Hot 97 tastemaker feared it would spur violence between the rival rappers.

Not all the tracks on St. Valentine's are street anthems. According to early reports, the disc contains a few requisite party tracks "for the ladies" and one tune even gives it up for God.

The disc, executive-produced by Dr. Dre and Eminem, has the "same huge sound" as Get Rich, according to Miller, and features guest spots from G-Unit members Young Buck and Lloyd Banks.

Fiddy is in Los Angeles this week filming the video for "Candy Shop" and will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live Friday to perform "This Is How We Do" with the Game.

50 Cent Moves Up "Massacre"

EOnline.com

by Charlie Amter

Feb 24, 2005, 6:35 PM PT

Stop us if you've heard this one before: A high-profile hip-hop album's street date is being moved up due to Internet piracy concerns.

The Massacre, the highly anticipated sophomore release from 50 Cent, will now drop Mar. 3, instead of Mar. 8, Interscope announced Thursday.

"50 Cent is linked so closely to the streets that we have to react quickly when his album surfaces illegally," says Interscope marketing executive Steve Berman in a press release. "The best way to combat piracy problems is by getting the real version into stores with all the exclusive content and special packaging that comes with it."

Fiddy himself chimed in, saying "fans want instant gratification, especially when they are fending for my music. They'll even risk buying the wrong s--t from bootleggers. I want them to have the real thing as soon as possible."

This marks the third time the disc's debut has been changed. The set, originally titled St. Valentine's Day Massacre, was originally scheduled to arrive in stores Feb. 15. Last month, Interscope pushed back the release to Mar. 8.

The Dr. Dre-produced Massacre is just one of several notable discs to have street dates pushed up a few days. In November, Interscope moved up the release date for Eminem's Encore amid similar piracy concerns.

Although Fiddy's label is clearly worried about large-scale Internet piracy, music biz insiders are somewhat skeptical of Interscope's sky-is-falling fears regarding The Massacre. "50 Cent's record has leaked," says Eric Garland, CEO of the online music market research and marketing consulting firm Big Champagne. "However, by the numbers, people have been cherry-picking the hits from the record for weeks. Although this can hurt first-week sales, statistically, the number of people who actually download an entire record are still relatively small."

Regardless of when the disc ultimately hits stores, the pressure is on for the Queens-born rapper to match the sales of his massive 2003 debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Get Rich was 2003's best-selling release and spawned monster tracks like "In Da Club," "P.I.M.P" and "Wanksta."

Fiddy's latest is expected to top of the charts on the strength of his number one single "Candy Shop," cameos from the likes of Oscar nominated actor (and budding R&B star) Jamie Foxx and early street buzz from cuts like the controversial diss track "Piggy Bank," which reportedly takes swipes at Fat Joe, Ja Rule and the recently hitched Nas and Kelis.

Interscope also announced Thursday that 250,000 special limited-edition Digipack versions of The Massacre are being manufactured. These include a CD key that will unlock exclusive content including a bonus track, a trailer for 50 Cent's upcoming videogame, Bullet Proof, and many uncensored photographs.

No word on where the "uncensored" photographs come from, but it's possible they stem from Fiddy's recent X-rated video shoot for "Disco Inferno." The rapper shot an underground video with several porn stars and members of his G-Unit posse last month at Los Angeles' Concorde nightclub and may release the racy video on a yet-to-be announced DVD package sometime this year.

Meanwhile, the laconic rap megastar is set to join Massacre's other executive producer, Eminem, on the Detroit star's Sirius satellite radio station, Shade 45. Sirius announced Thursday that G-Unit Radio will take over Shade 45 all day on Saturdays. Sirius says Fiddy will be in Shade 45's proverbial house this Friday at 8 p.m. ET, offering up "exclusive commentary from his new album."

50 Cent has revealed he would like to work with Sir Elton John in the near future.

Elton last week admitted that he wants to make a hip-hop record, and 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) seems happy to fulfil his wish.

In fact, Jackson revealed that the pair had been due to collaborate in the past, but circumstances prevented them from ever joining up.

"Elton has incredible talent," said the rapper. "He was meant to come out and record some stuff with me but it didn't happen."

Rapper 50 Cent was arrested in New York on Friday for driving dangerously in an uninsured Lamborghini through midtown Manhattan, police and witnesses said.

The recording artist, whose given name is Curtis Jackson, was pulled over by an unmarked patrol car. At first he refused a police order to get out of the car, instead making a call on his cell phone, tourist Ian Parvess said.

"Eventually the cops opened the door. ... He just got out of the car and put his hands on the car and they put the cuffs on him," Parvess, who videotaped the arrest, told Reuters.

A police spokesman said he was cited for making an unsafe lane change, driving with an expired permit, driving without insurance and driving without a vehicle registration.

He was due to be released as soon the summonses could be written, the spokesman said.

The Game invited rap rival 50 Cent to help remix his hit "It’s Okay (One Blood)" in an effort to end their length feud.

The California rapper reveals he called 50's manager Chris Lighty to ask his one-time mentor to collaborate with him in the studio, but the plan was a no-go. The Game says, "I reached out to 50 to see if he was going to be a part of the remix.

"Chris Lighty thought I was joking - 50, that's my archnemesis. He ended up saying no, which I expected, but I'm such a funny guy, I thought I'd do it anyway - just to say I did." The Game would like to see an end to rap's "beefs", but he won't play peacemaker. He tells urban magazine Vibe, "I'd really love for hip-hop to be unified again, where there was no beefing with anybody."

50 Cent Ignores Eminem's Mixtape Advice

Rapper 50 CENT has vowed to continue putting out mixtapes for free, despite his label boss and close pal EMINEM advising him to stop doing so.

The Candy Shop hitmaker has released three mixtapes in the last six months, and recently let fans download his latest freestyles on The Elephant In The Room mixtape from his website free of charge.

But Shady Records CEO Eminem doesn't approve of 50's marketing methods.

50 tells MTV.com, "They think I'm crazy. Sometimes (Eminem) misses why I put it out. He goes, 'Why did you put it out?'

"But I can't be as hot as I'm gonna be if I don't play around. I gotta spar before I go fight the champ. That's my concept of it. If I don't go out and make material and lock in (get fans' response to his music), I'm not gonna make the best possible material for the next (official) project."

50 Cent -- Alicia, You Ignorant Slut!

50's on the warpath again -- where's Ja Rule when you need him?!

Fiddy is blasting Alicia Keys for sayin', "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." 50 Cent now responds, "I don't like people who don't like me ... that statement changes my perception of Alicia Keys totally. It's just not really a bright comment ..." Apparently, it takes being shot nine times to gain that kind of wisdom!

For her part, Keys now says the comment was taken out of context. A little scared, Alicia?

50 tells Showbuzz that in his eyes, Keys is now in the same category as Oprah. As in what -- filthy rich and all-powerful?

Young Buck Challenges 50 Cent In New Song

YOUNG BUCK has fuelled the war of words between himself and former rap boss 50 CENT by slamming the G-Unit mastermind in the words of a new song.

News of the new tune, My Interview, comes just days after 50 revealed he axed the rapper, real name David Darnell Brown, after he spoke out about dissent in the G-Unit camp.

Young Buck sparked the rap row after telling Yo! Raps Magazine he had yet to be paid any royalties owed to him since signing with 50’s G-Unit Records.

And now he’s hurled the latest blow by sending a new song to MTV.

He raps, "I hear the same things that you heard/That 50 kicked him out or Buck sniffs coke and he flips out/It’s too late, the whole world know what I be about/S**t, I do make mistakes like any other man/S**t, I recoup off an album, quicker than you can."

Despite the friction between the two rappers, 50 Cent has revealed that Young Buck will appear on G-Unit’s upcoming Terminate On Sight album, which is slated for release on 24 June (08) - even though he is no longer a member of the group.

50 Denies Eminem Weight Reports

50 CENT has dismissed reports his mentor EMINEM is battling problems with his weight, insisting the SLIM SHADY star is "looking good".

The Without Me hitmaker was rumoured to have piled on the pounds at the end of last year (07), after taking a brief hiatus from his hip-hop career.

One U.S. tabloid even claimed Eminem - real name Marshall Mathers III - was "starting to look like an M+M".

But 50, who is signed to Eminem's Shady Records, has laughed off the reports.

He tells MTV.com, "Em is in shape right now. He looks good. I seen him in Detroit. He's gonna look real good when you see him return. He's in shape right now."

However, the In Da Club star admits Eminem has been struggling with another health problem: "The last time I seen him we played basketball together. He had a knee injury, so we chilled for a little bit."

50 Cent joins MTV for mogul search

New shows include 'Making the Rock Band'

By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER

MTV has pacted with hip-hop star 50 Cent to search for the nation's next street-smart business mogul.

Untitled project is among the cabler's next round of series greenlights, which also include "Buzzin'," a comedic reality series that will chart the rise of music artist Shwayze; "Busted," a half-hour that chronicles kids that break the law; and "Making the Rock Band," a new take on Sean "Diddy" Combs' music reality series. Then there's the docu-series that follows T.I.'s community service and march toward jail (Daily Variety, May 28).

More than one option

Also in the mix, but not yet ordered to series "Hollarado," which follows the world of skateboarding star William Spencer, and "16 and Pregnant," described as a take on "real-life Junos."

"Our audience expects us to constantly reinvent and evolve," said MTV programming head Tony DiSanto. "That's the challenge at MTV, but also the fun part."

Under development team leader Liz Gateley, MTV has done away with traditional pilot seasons, in some cases ordering shows directly to series. Channel has also focused on adding more hour-long series to its mix, is adding more spin-offs and adding more genres to the mix.

"We didn't like the idea of us gathering ideas and then waiting," DiSanto said of the move away from a traditional development cycle. "We don't want to stop for any idea. If it excites us, we'll move on it."

Ish Entertainment is behind the untitled 50 Cent show, which will center on 16 contestants as they live together and compete in challenges that relate to street savvy and business smarts. Show - kind of a hip-hop 'Apprentice' - will end each week with 50 Cent narrowing his search. Ish's Michael Hirschorn, Stella Stolper and Chris Choun exec produce with 50 Cent and Chris Lighty. Eight episodes have been lined up.

"Buzzin'," from Suretone Ent. and Hoosick Falls Prods., follows Shwayze - nicknamed "the only black kid in Malibu" - as he partners with musician Cisco Adler as they attempt to make it big in the biz. MTV calls it a real-life "Entourage," complete with Suretone Records honcho Jordan Schur in the Ari Gold role.

George Verschoor, Mike Powers and Schur will exec produce. Cabler has ordered eight episodes.

Among the other greenlights, "Making the Rock Band" will twist the "Making the Band" concept by following Combs as he attempts to make it big in an area he's less familiar with - rock music.

"Buzzin'," which won't air in prime, will likely be stripped in other dayparts. Show, which secured a 20 episode pickup, will focus on kids gone wrong from both the POV of law enforcement and the juvenile delinquents.

As for the shows in development, "Hollarado," which will play as a reality half-hour comedy, comes from Liquid Theory. Austin and Julie Reading will exec produce, along with Mike Powers. "16 and Pregnant," which takes its cue both from "Juno" and the recent teen pregnancies of stars like Jamie Lynn Spears, will take a sobering look at young girls who are expecting.

Projects join a hefty crop of upcoming new series including Cris Abrego's "From G's to Gents" (July 15), "My Super Sweet 16" spinoff "Exiled" (August), "Paris Hilton's: My New BFF" (September); and Justin Timberlake's "The Phone."

Other upcoming premieres include "Legally Blonde" (June 2), season two of "America's Best Dance Crew" (June 19), season five of "Run's House" (July 16) and new seasons of "Making the Band" and "The Hills" (August).

DiSanto, meanwhile, dismissed rampant rumors that he might be heading to a new home, such as the CW

Imperfect 50 Cent

50 Cent's new album cover shows off his "imperfections".

The rapper - real name Curtis Jackson - says he wanted an "intimate" picture for the artwork for 'Before I Self Destruct', which features a close-up of the 'Candy Shop' star's face with his skin burning off and a fiery skull underneath.

He told MTV: "The album cover, I sat there and thought about it. I wanted to do something that was completely different than I've ever done. The 'Curtis' album, I was pretty close in the camera when I done it. I felt it was intimate. This project is even more intimate, but it's harder. I didn't sugarcoat things. My imperfections are visible on there. I'm in a secure enough space.

"There's a huge gape in hip-hop. There ain't no middle ground. You're either here or you're there. To create the middle ground, the guys that have been up here gotta come down and bring everybody to the forefront where they seen. That's what this is actually about."

50 Cent Feels The Crunch

50 Cent has lost "a few million" in the current worldwide recession.

The 'Candy Shop' rapper said his financial endeavours - particularly buying and selling diamonds - have taken a hit in the present financial climate.

He said: "The credit crunch has hit rap. I buy diamonds on a very regular basis. But now I am selling my old stuff before I get something new. These are times when you learn about the value of money

"If you don't lose money in this recession it means you didn't have enough to start off with. Sure, I lost a few million but that's because I have so much.

"Any businessman who wants a piece of the future should learn from me."

Despite saying his finances have taken a turn for the worse, the rapper - real name Curtis Jackson - reportedly ran up a bar tab of £75,000 last week, as he celebrated at the after-party for his latest film 'Dead Man Running' at the Alto club in London.

An onlooker told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "When he arrived at the club it was mayhem. The area was cleared for him and security ushered him straight through. On his table were bottles of champagne but he wanted a magnum bottle of Ace Of Spades champagne. "You could tell he was loving all the attention, as people were trying to take pictures on their phones and were shouting his name."

The 33-year-old hip-hop artist - who stars in the British gangster film as a loan shark named Thigo - also performed in the film for free after learning proceeds from it would help disadvantaged children.

50 Cent's Thug And Drug Past

50 Cent started drug dealing because he was too young to get a regular job.

The 'Crimewave' rapper became a crack dealer in New York aged just 12, but never took drugs himself because he felt he would become addicted and end up dead.

He said: "I sold drugs and I was in a situation where there weren't many options available to me - I was so young that working wasn't an option so that's when I was dealing, when I was 12."

When asked if he ever experimented with substances himself, the 34-year-old hip-hop star told BANG Showbiz: "No because I'm obsessive. I do things to an extreme. I know this about myself, I'm an extremist.

"I wouldn't get high, I would get extremely f***ing high. I'd probably get so high I probably wouldn't come back if I fell into that kind of space. I know myself enough to know that I got to stay away."

After being arrested for offences related to drug dealing in 1994 the rapper, aged 19 at the time, avoided between three and nine years in jail by spending seven months stay in a youth 'shock incarceration' boot camp in upstate New York.

50 Cent is currently starring in British gangster film 'Dead Man Running', and is releasing his album 'Before I Self Destruct' next month.

50 Cent's Security Splurge

50 Cent spends $20,000 a week on security to protect himself.

The 'Candy Shop' rapper - who was shot at nine times during an incident in 2000 and has openly admitted to dealing drugs in the past takes extreme measures both to protect himself and his property and also to ensure he doesn't get sued.

The 33-year-old star explained: "I spend $20,000 a week on security. My home is surrounded by cameras.

"I need surveillance not only to look out for me but also to protect me. You get all these crazy lawsuits and I need cameras to check on things."

50 is not the only star concerned about his security.

David and Victoria Beckham have splashed the cash to turn their UK home into an impregnable fortress.

Their £2.5 million mansion in Hertfordshire, England, is now protected by CCTV surveillance, guard dogs, a high wall topped with razor wire and 24-hour security patrols by former SAS members.

One employee previously said: "Even if you're only going there for a few hours, you still have to sign in and out of every room. The cameras watch you from the minute you go in - it's like a military base."

50 Cent: 'I Always Knew I'd Be Rich'

50 Cent has said that he always knew he would grow up to be rich and famous.

The Get Rich or Die Tryin' star runs a successful business alongside acting in movies and forging a prosperous music career.

"I expected myself to be successful," Angry Ape quotes the rapper as saying. "Not this successful as fast, but I'm working, I'm ambitious and I'll always create new goals and challenge myself to accomplish them."

50 Cent went on to affirm that no matter what their background is, people should never let anything stand in the way of their ambitions.

"There are no excuses, if you allow yourself to let not winning be an option then you won't win," he added. "I spent a long period of time with nothing around to support my ideas but me."

50 Cent's Body Art

50 Cent used to draw his muscles on.

The 'Candy Shop' rocker was ashamed about his physique when he piled on the pounds on the road so used cosmetics to look more defined.

He said: "In 2005 I was about 15 pounds heavier. I had to draw my muscles on. I got fat while I was doing the tour."

50 - real name Curtis Jackson - is not the only star to use make-up tricks to give himself a better body.

It was previously claimed that 'Twilight' hunk Robert Pattinson used cosmetics and clever lighting to appear more muscular.

A source said: "Robert had a team of make-up artists working on his stomach to make it appear as if he had a six-pack.

"They used all their tricks - including liquid body paint, shading and airbrushing - to make his torso look toned. Whenever they stopped filming, Robert would duck back inside to get touched up by the make-up team.

"The lighting team helped as well, creating the perfect way to accentuate the shading and highlights."

50 Cent Has His Tattoos Removed

Rapper 50 Cent has had the tattoos on his arms removed - so he doesn't have to spend hours in the make-up chair on film sets.

The star, real name Curtis Jackson, is tired of early call times so his skin art can be covered up - and so he has gone under the Laser to have many of his tattoos erased.

He says, "I took 'em off. I've been on a few acting projects and they been making me get up... My call time is four hours before the regular acting talent because of the tattoos.

"I've got a project I'm supposed to be doing with Nicolas Cage, called "The Dance," it's a boxing film... it's like my passion project and... when you're a fighter you're sweating (and) with a whole bunch of make-up on and stuff like that, it doesn't look real to me."

But there's one tattoo 50 will never peel off: "I kept my back piece. I can't take that off."
