Celine Dion To Stay in Las Vegas

imdb.com

Canadian superstar singer Celine Dion is in talks to carry on her blockbuster Las Vegas live show for at least another three years. Dion's staggering contract, which earns her a staggering $100 million plus a percentage of profits, runs out in March 2006 - but she is reportedly in negotiations with bosses at Caesars Palace to extend the agreement to at least 2007. A source says, "Nothing has been signed. But it looks like there will be a one- year extension with an option for another year." The new deal will net Dion $40 million for the extra year and $45 million for the option year. Only one factor stands in the way of the deal - the singer has made public her desire to have another child with husband Rene Angelil, the father of her three year old son Rene-Charles.

Isn't it rumored that her husband has a huge gambling problem??

Celine Hubby's Extortionist ConvictedEOnline.comby Joal RyanOct 29, 2004, 5:15 PM PTA woman whose lawyers allegedly warned would go "hog wild" with a cry of rape against Celine Dion's husband has been found guilty of hatching a multimillion-dollar extortion plot.Yun Sung, 49, was convicted Thursday in Las Vegas of conspiracy to commit extortion and bribery.Sung faces up to 16 years in prison. She's scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 16, court officials told E! She also faces deportation on a separate charge of violating federal immigration law.No reaction yet on the big-voiced Dion.Sung and her husband, Ae Kwon, were arrested in January 2003 after their lawyers allegedly demanded $13.5 million on the couple's behalf from the pop diva's manager and spouse, René Angélil."I think he [one of the lawyers] used the phrase, 'If I'm not involved, they will go buck wild or hog wild and go to the media," Angélil attorney Martin Singer testified Tuesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. "But if you pay us, they'll shut up and go away."In the end, Sung and Kwon did go away--turns out the lawyers' conversation was part of an undercover sting operation.Kwon is scheduled to stand trial on Jan. 10.Four years ago, Sung walked away with $2 million of Angélil's money. She'd accused him of assaulting her at the Las Vegas Strip's Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino; he'd paid her seven figures to keep her unflattering claims out of the headlines. In 2002, Sung went public with the story anyway, breaking a confidentiality agreement by filing a civil lawsuit and encouraging police to open a criminal investigation. Angelil denied any wrongdoing, and authorities seemed to concur, dropping their probe in 2003.On Thursday, prosecutor L.J. O'Neale told jurors that Sung needed more money from Angélil because she'd gambled away her millions. That, and she was greedy.Defense attorney Robert Langford argued his client was the real victim."This case is not about extortion," Langford said, per the Review-Journal. "It's about silence...This was about making sure nobody would ever believe her again because she had been accused by the state of Nevada of extortion."Jurors needed just five hours to decide on Sung's guilt.Dion, 36, and Angélil, 62, wed in 1994.The two have been a professional team since she was 12. Dion became a headliner-in-residence at Vegas' Caesars Palace in March 2003. Her latest album, Miracle, a collection of power lullabies, opened at number four last week on the Billboard charts and sits at number eight this week.

"A New Day" Will Have To Wait Until Another Day

Celebrities get sick too, just like the rest of us normal people. Not all of them are magic. The Showbuzz reports:

Celine Dion has called off upcoming performances of her Las Vegas show because she's got a highly contagious infection. Producers of Dion's show say she's canceled the next five performances of "A New Day" because she's being treated for mycoplasma bronchitis, a contagious bacterial infection. She's been ordered to rest. Dion's show has been called off through Sunday. She was scheduled to take a holiday break after that. Her show will not resume until Dec. 28.

Ooh, that sounds gross. Yes, she needs to get herself some rest, lest this happen.

Celine Dion to Unveil New Song at Oscars

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Celine Dion will unveil her new song, "I Knew I Loved You," during a tribute to Italian composer Ennio Morricone at this year's Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Wednesday.

Morricone, who will receive an honorary Oscar at the Feb. 25 awards, orchestrated the song for 1984's "Once Upon a Time in America," directed by Sergio Leone.

Songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman wanted to write lyrics for the song, but the film's producers felt none were needed. The Bergmans got their chance with Dion's version.

Morricone, 78, has received original score Oscar nominations for "Days of Heaven," "The Mission," "The Untouchables," "Bugsy" and "Malena."

The new rendition of "I Knew I Loved You," produced by Quincy Jones, will appear on Morricone's upcoming greatest-hits album and on Dion's forthcoming record.

OK! Interview: Celine Dion

A music staple, Celine Dion has been in the industry for more than 25 years and the songstress believes life is only getting better and better. Having just released a new album, Taking Chances, and preparing to call "curtains" on her extended Las Vegas concert run, Celine, who has a son, René-Charles, 6, with husband René Angélil, is looking forward to a new chapter in her life. The 39-year-old opens up in the newest issue of OK! about family, music and how she's remained grounded all these years.

How do you feel about leaving Las Vegas? What do you think you’ll miss most about it?

Well, it’s been my home for the last five years. We consider ourselves Las Vegans now (laughs). We’re going to keep our house here because my son was 1 ½ when we moved here and he made memories here. It’s his home. We’ve celebrated six birthdays here, so we’re going to keep this house although we’re building our new house in Florida.

Do you feel good about getting older?

My feet are definitely more grounded than before. And I know that I’m not holding onto a dream. I’m holding onto my life. I’m so centered in feeling great about me that I can give great things to my son and my husband and my family. I see clearer and clearer now. There’s no such thing is aging, but maturing and knowledge. It’s beautiful, I call that beauty.

You have a world tour coming up. What can audiences expect?

A brand new show. It’s very modern, very fresh, dynamic. (snaps fingers) Very up tempo. Uplifting, edgy. Let’s put it this way, same Celine — I will be singing my previous repertoire that’s sure, but I also have my new album called Taking Chances, and those songs are very powerful. Definitely a lot more edgy. I will be performing both old and new songs. I can’t wait. I’m very thrilled.

Where would you most like to live in the world?

It doesn’t matter for me where I live as long as I am with my entourage, my entourage of my husband and son is my home. As long as I have my two men, it doesn’t matter.

What do you never leave home without?

My son. Sometimes my husband has to stay for business stuff, but most of the time, my husband and my son.

Lets talk about the album title, Taking Chances. Do you consider yourself a big risk taker?

I take chances in what I believe. And I thought those songs were amazing. The title is very appropriate because, first it’s a song and, second, the journey in Vegas. Probably people thought, “She’s not going to do a tour. They’re not going to do an album. She’s exhausted” and all that. Yes I am, but I’m especially uplifted as well. Because it’s been an amazing journey but at the same time the songs are so unbelievable, there’s no way I’m going to put this on the table and leave it there. I will go on stage and have a good time. Also my son is going to be noticing that. Can you imagine, “My mother is on stage.” And I’m singing an album that I’m very proud of. It’s going to be a visual spectacular and he’s going to be 7 years old. He’s at an age where he’ll probably remember. It’s a privilege to be able to have this experience with him.

There’s a big rock influence on this album as well.

My edgy side…(laughs)

Which will undoubtedly broaden your demographic. Was it a conscious decision to do that or is that how it came about naturally?

It came about naturally.

How would you say you’ve evolved as an artist and as a woman?

As an artist, think progressively, naturally. As a woman, I think it's opening up yourself to life and noticing what life can bring you and let it in. And then it becomes whatever you become. I definitely would never go back to my 20s. The best is yet to come.

How do you feel about other artists who are having difficulties being grounded?

I have to say this — the thing I’m most proud of, that I’m grounded and balanced. That’s my biggest success is the person I could remain through the years. It’s not easy to achieve and I certainly wish that everyone would have the family and the support and team that I have. I think this could make the huge difference. I feel in this generation they have to have it all. Beat the odds and do it all, but they need the family and the support there. The music industry has changed tremendously and the kids have so much pressure. I’m glad I did my work, studied my career 20 years ago and now I can enjoy it.

What advice would you give a young singer trying to get into the business?

Never say that your life is to be a singer. You want to sing because it’s a part of your life. But in your life, you are in charge. If you don’t succeed as a singer, it doesn’t mean you don’t have a life and it's over. You have your life and you can have a career to have fun. Most kids these days say it’s their life. That’s the problem.

DION GOES TECHNO

CELINE DION performs techno cover versions of her most famous song on request from her six-year-old son. Rene-Charles insists his superstar mother joins him for the bizarre recitals of Titanic song My Heart Will Go On. She explains, "A couple of weeks ago, he took his keyboard and goes, 'Mom, do you want to sing?' This is the last thing I want to do after every night for five years straight, but this is my son. And he starts the music from Titanic. "I'm trying to follow the keyboard, a very techno version. But accompanied by my son, it was special."

Channeling Celine

Gatecrasher

Celine Dion is corrupting the youth of Broadway.

The fresh-faced cast of "Spring Awakening" has become obsessed with an affectionate parody tribute to the singer, available online, called "Celine Dion is F***ing Amazing."

"They watch the video every night before they go on, to get ready," laughs an insider. "And they try to crack each other up onstage by whispering lines from the video to each other that the audience can't hear."

One young star, when addressing the audience to take up a charity collection after the performance, quoted banter from Dion's Las Vegas show verbatim: "Everybody's feeling good tonight? Well, I'm glad you're feeling good, because we're feeling awesome."

As commentary on the video points out: "Got that? You are good. She is awesome. She wins."

Celine Sidelined by Sore Throat

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Celine Dion's heart may go on, but her show won't.

The ever-fragile Canadian chanteuse has been forced to postpone several concerts in Australia due to a throat infection, her reps have announced.

Shows in Brisbane and Melbourne were pushed back earlier this week after Dion complained of a sore throat and irritated sinuses upon her arrival Down Under. Two performances in Sydney have also been postponed for a week.

Dion, who has been photographed wearing a surgical mask in recent days, presumably to ward off any further germs, apologized to her fans for the delay.

"I've been looking forward to doing these shows for so long," Dion said in a statement. "I'm really sorry to disappoint my fans this weekend, but I can't wait to see them on the new dates."

The singer, currently in the midst of her first world tour in 10 years, has been advised by her doctors to rest her voice for an additional 48 hours to ensure her recovery, her rep said.

Her latest ailment likely means a low-key birthday celebration for Dion, who turns 40 on Sunday. In the past four years, Dion has canceled shows for a raft of maladies, including a neck injury, a rare ear disease, bronchitis and a viral infection.

Dion wrapped up her long-running Vegas show A New Day in December and launched her yearlong Taking Chances tour last month in South Africa.

Up ahead, she is slated to appear on Idol Gives Back for the second year in a row. The charity special airs April 9.

Celine Dion's Beijing show cancelled: media

BEIJING (Reuters) - Canadian pop superstar Celine Dion's April 13 Beijing concert has been cancelled because the organizers failed to obtain a permit despite selling thousands of tickets, local media reported.

But an official with China's Culture Ministry on Wednesday said the singer's concert had been approved.

The Beijing Evening News on Tuesday quoted a spokesman for the singer as denying earlier media reports that Dion had postponed her concert at the 64,000-seat Workers Stadium due to concern that the city's sandstorm-afflicted spring weather could affect her recovery from a recent throat infection.

The spokesman said the real reason for the cancellation was that the concert's organizer "had sold more than 10,000 tickets, having not carried out the approval process," the Beijing Evening News said on Tuesday, citing a statement from the spokesman.

"Celine Dion will solve (the issue) through legal channels," the paper quoted the statement as saying.

An official in the department involved in event approvals at the culture ministry said on Wednesday that Dion's Beijing concert had been approved.

"The concert was approved. You should check with the organizers," the official, surnamed Pan, told Reuters by telephone.

Officials at Dion's concert organizer, Emma Ticketmaster, were not available for comment. Staff contacted at the company's sales hotline said Dion's concert had been "postponed for health reasons," and ticket-holders could get refunds, but no new date had been fixed.

The company's Web site on Wednesday advertised Dion's Beijing concert without attaching a date. Dion would perform her first concert in China in Shanghai on April 11, according to the Web site.

China-based Emma Ticketmaster was involved in a controversy last month after Icelandic singer Bjork played her song, "Declare Independence," and chanted "Tibet! Tibet!" during a concert the company promoted in Shanghai last month.

China's Culture Ministry said it would tighten controls over foreign performers after the Bjork incident, but ministry officials later said it was an isolated case and would not affect foreign artists coming to perform.

Dion would still come to Beijing, the paper said, to participate in a promotional event for the Olympic Games on April 12.

Dion postponed a series of Australian concerts as part of her world tour due to a throat infection, her publicists said on Friday.

A concert in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur had been moved to April 13, Dion's official Web site (www.celinedion.com) said, and the Beijing concert was marked "more information to follow."

Dion sang the theme song "The Power of the Dream" at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics but is best known for "My Heart Will Go On," a song from the movie "Titanic," which was a huge hit in Asia.

Celine Dion Has A Stalker

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Celine Dion has a "crazy" stalker.

A 41-year-old man was arrested outside the 'Falling into You' singer's Canadian home for allegedly following the singer.

The man reportedly pressed the intercom at the mansion's front gate on Friday night (13.02.09) and demanded to see Celine or her husband Rene Angelil.

After he refused to leave, security officers called the police.

The man ran away, but was arrested a short time later when he returned to Celine's house.

He was sent to hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and is due to appear in court today (16.02.09) to answer charges of harassment and stalking.

Celine is yet to comment on the frightening ordeal.

The 40-year-old singer recently revealed she and her 66-year-old husband are trying for another baby.

Celine - who welcomed son Rene-Charles into the world in 2001 after having a series of fertility treatments - said: "We are going to give it a try after my tour. Hopefully we are pregnant again. I have a small window of hope. But we have been so blessed already. We tried six years for Rene-Charles. We have our miracle baby."
