DeNiro and 50 Cent Finally Team Up

Tim Hunter will direct New Orleans-set thriller

Robert DeNiro seems to have examined his Oscar-studded resume and come to the following conclusion: Not enough films co-starring rappers.

DeNiro is in talks to co-star with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson in a currently untitled police thriller set in New Orleans.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot revolves around a cop (DeNiro) who thinks his partner died in Hurricane Katrina, only to discover that the partner was actually shot to death (which doesn't necessarily mean he didn't die in Hurricane Katrina, but that's neither here nor there). With his new partner (Mr. Cent), he begins to investigate the crime.

Tim Hunter ("River's Edge") is set to direct. Previously titled "Microwave Park" (and set in Los Angeles), the drama is tentatively set to begin production in February.

Missing from the big screen since "Hide and Seek," DeNiro's next film is "The Good Shepherd, which he directed.

Jackson has "Home of the Brave" coming out later this fall.

This is why Pacino is better. Pacino never sold out and did "Rocky and Bullwinkle" or star in a movie with 50 cent. Damn De Niro, have some dignity.

Well...Uhh...ever hear of Any Given Sunday with LL Cool J, LT, Jamie Foxx, and a bunch of athletes who couldn't act worth a sh*t. Let's also not forget the classic Affleck/J.Ho....GIGLI....It's ok...things will get better with, brace yourself.....OCEAN'S 13! My point is...practically every star "sells out" at some point or another. ;)

Damn....you got me. I still think Pacino is better.

I actually love the both of them. Godfather I & II still shocks to this day.

Pacino, DeNiro Reunite to 'Kill'

'Fried Green Tomatoes' helmer will direct

May 17, 2007

They shared a movie with "The Godfather II" and shared scenes in "Heat," but Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro are finally ready to do a whole film together.

According to Variety, the Oscar-winning icons will team up for "Righteous Kill," an indie film with a whopping $60 million budget. Nu Image's Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla Films will produce.

Jon Avnet, who directed Pacino in the upcoming "88 Minutes," will helm "Righteous Kill," which is based on a script by Russell Gerwirtz.

Nobody was offering any details on the plot, except to say that this Pacino-DeNiro collaboration won't be a mere stunt.

"This is an event in world history," Nu Image head Avi Lerner tells Variety. "They were in two scenes in 'Heat.' In this movie, they are in the whole thing together."

Production on "Righteous Kill" will begin in early August, shooting in Connecticut and New York City.

In addition to "88 Minutes," Pacino's upcoming slate includes the summer ensemble "Ocean's Thirteen" and the biopic "Dali & I: The Surreal Story."

After finally getting his directing effort "The Good Shepherd" into theaters last winter, DeNiro will next be seen in front of the cameras in the fantasy film "Stardust" and the Hollywood comedy "What Just Happened?"

NEW YORK - Everyone wants to work with Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson except Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola who directed Pacino and De Niro in "The Godfather" trilogy says the trio of Oscar-winning actors have become apathetic.

"I don't feel that kind of passion to do a role and be great coming from those guys, because if it was there, they would do it! I mean, they're all in a position to do it," the 68-year-old filmmaker tells GQ magazine in its November issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

"Pacino always wanted to do theater. He wanted to do 'Peer Gynt.' He wanted to do Shakespeare. Pacino will say, 'Oh, I was raised next to a furnace in New York, and I'm never going to L.A.,' but they all live off the fat of the land," Coppola says.

He calls De Niro "wealthy and powerful" and more ambitious than Nicholson.

"I think if there was a role that De Niro was hungry for, he would come after it. I don't think Jack would," he says. "Jack has money and influence and girls, and I think he's a little bit like (Marlon) Brando, except Brando went through some tough times."

Nicholson a front-row regular at the Oscars and at Los Angeles Laker games "was always kind of a joker" and a Hollywood schmooze, says Coppola.

"He's got a little bit of a mean streak," he says. "He's intelligent, always wired in with the big guys and the big bosses of the studios."

Adds Coppola: "I don't know what any of them want anymore."

Put-down Pain

JIM Norton will never forget the way he was turned down for a photo by Robert De Niro. "It was really embarrassing," the comic said at a recent taping of LateNet with Ray Ellin at Gotham Comedy Club. "I was so star-struck I actually tapped his arm, which is never how one man should ever get the attention of another man. It actually would have been more masculine to throw soap down in front of him and say, 'Oh, let me get that . . .' " Norton has a best-selling book out and a new comedy special, "Monster Rain," on HBO, but the humiliating blow-off still hurts, reports The Post's Mandy Stadtmiller. "I was like, 'Can I get a picture?' and he was like, 'No.' "

50 Cent: De Niro makes me feel `normal'

AP

NEW YORK - It's not every day that you see Robert De Niro on the cover of Vibe — with 50 Cent.

They posed for the magazine's March issue to promote their new crime drama, "Righteous Kill," co-starring Al Pacino and Brian Dennehy. The movie is expected to be released this fall.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, says he'd "hang out with Robert on Thursdays and Fridays" if he could.

"His celebrity is so strong that I get a chance to feel like a normal person for a little bit," the 31-year-old rapper tells Vibe. "People get nervous around him. We had a table read, and it was amazing because there were people who came in who were like, all recognizable faces ... and Robert comes in and Al comes in and it's almost like, their knees are going shaky under the table. It's great."

50, who has sold millions of records, launched his film career with the autobiographical tale "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" in 2005.

De Niro won an Oscar for portraying a mob boss in "The Godfather: Part II." His screen credits also include "Goodfellas" and "Heat." The 64-year-old actor says he doesn't mind being famous for playing gangsters.

"Those characters are more exciting," he says. "People like to watch and identify with them in some ways. It's a fantasy. The other side is, for an actor, (those parts are) more fun, in a way, to do."

Is 50 that cold-blooded?

"Yeah," says the rapper, who's famously been shot nine times.

When asked the same question, De Niro responds: "No, I don't know. I'm actually ... more sensitive."

Hollywood stars seek early start to labor talks

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hollywood stars George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep are urging the Screen Actors Guild to start talks for a new labor contract as soon as possible in order to avert a strike.

Two days after the Writers Guild of America ended a three-month strike, the Oscar-winning quartet placed ads in the Thursday editions of trade papers Daily Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. The ads urged SAG leaders to commit to negotiating a deal quickly, Daily Variety reported.

SAG, whose militant leadership strongly supported the writers' strike, has not yet set talks in preparation for the June 30 expiration of its contract with the studios.

SAG's committee on wages and working conditions has been preparing for the talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the studios' bargaining arm.

Even though the writers walkout just ended, Hollywood is in the throes of a de facto strike because movie studios are reluctant to commit to projects if there is a risk they could be shut down by an actors' stoppage.

The last major SAG strike lasted for three months in 1980. In 2000, commercials actors struck for six months.

SAG national executive director Doug Allen said on Wednesday that the union, which represents about 120,000 actors, would begin talks "at a time that will most benefit our members."

But Clooney expressed concern last week that there was "a lot of strike fatigue" in Hollywood and claimed SAG officials would lose negotiating power the longer they waited to begin talks with movie and television producers.

Members of the writers union will vote later on their proposed three-year contract, which provides new payments to writers for work streamed on the Internet and doubles rates they earn for films and TV shows resold as Internet downloads. It also extends the union's contract to cover made-for-Web content.

Judge tosses lawsuit against De Niro

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Robert De Niro by an insurance company that claimed he misrepresented his health for a movie role.

Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. insured the film "Hide and Seek." The company claimed the actor misrepresented his health when he wrote that he had never been diagnosed with or treated for prostate cancer.

According to court documents, De Niro was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Oct. 15, 2003, two days after he signed the medical certificate. De Niro underwent a prostate-gland biopsy on Oct. 10, 2003.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu granted De Niro's motion for summary judgment on Monday.

"This ruling vindicates what we've said all along," De Niro's attorney Robyn Crowther said. "We are pleased that the court has found that Fireman's Fund can't sue Mr. De Niro for getting cancer."

De Niro's diagnosis and resulting treatment delayed the movie production. Fireman's Fund paid Fox more than $1.8 million to cover the cost of the delay. The film was released in January 2005.

De Niro, Barrymore top 'Fine' cast

Beckinsale, Rockwell set for Miramax remake

By MICHAEL FLEMING

Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell are set to star in the Kirk Jones-directed "Everybody's Fine."

Miramax Films acquired worldwide rights on the film that will begin shooting in Connecticut later this month.

The remake of the Giuseppe Tornatore film "Stanno tutti bene" was written by Jones. He came aboard when the redo was first set up by Hollywood Gang Prods. and Cecchi Gori USA (Daily Variety, March 16, 2006).

De Niro will play a widower who realizes that his deceased wife was his only connection to his children. He decides on a whim to take a road trip to reconnect with each of his grown kids, discovering that their lives are far from perfect.

Gianni Nunnari will produce with Ted Field, Vittorio Cecchi Gori and Glynis Murray. Craig Flores, Callum Greene and Mike Weber are executive producers.

The deal marks Miramax's second significant acquisition of a picture that was nearing the start line. In February, Miramax agreed to team with Pathe on "Cheri," an adaptation of the 1920s novel by French author Colette that reteams "Dangerous Liaisons" star Michelle Pfeiffer, director Stephen Frears and screenwriter Christopher Hampton.

Barrymore will next be seen in "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Grey Gardens"; Beckinsale in "Nothing But the Truth," "Winged Creatures" and "Whiteout"; and Rockwell in "Frost/Nixon." /Variety

De Niro bolts from CAA

Actor makes move to Endeavor

By MICHAEL FLEMING

In the latest development in an already eventful agency week, Robert De Niro has left Creative Artists Agency for Endeavor.

De Niro hit his payday stride in the comedy arena, where his salary approached $18 million for laffers like "Meet the Fockers."

Sources said that De Niro and partner Jane Rosenthal will move their Tribeca Productions shingle over to Endeavor as well. His exit with CAA was amicable, with sources explaining that a long relationship had simply run its course.

De Niro’s surprising move caps one of the more eventful week in the history of Endeavor, which just hired exiting UTA agents Nick Stevens, Lisa Hallerman and Sharon Sheinwold, and brought Ben Stiller into the fold. Other clients, Jack Black included, may move from UTA to Endeavor as well.

Signing De Niro gives Endeavor a gain at CAA’s expense, coming right after longtime Endeavor client Ashton Kutcher left for CAA earlier this week. Both actors have successful production companies.

The two-time Oscar winning De Niro is a bonafide icon, but he hasn’t had a big hit since 2004’s "Meet the Fockers." De Niro followed by directing and starring in "The Good Shepherd" and most recently toplining "Stardust." Neither performed strongly at the box office.

Upcoming are the Barry Levinson-directed comedy "What Just Happened?" and the Millennium Films-financed Jon Avnet-directed "Righteous Kill," which re-teams De Niro with "Heat" co-star Al Pacino. Overture releases the drama this fall.

Some agency watchers have attributed De Niro’s move and other recent client shifts to apprehension and restlessness attributable to a lack of new production starts because of a pending actor’s strike this summer.

They predict there could be more talent shuffling the deck as they look to jumpstart careers by moving to agents who will be eager to please.

De Niro, long courted by other agencies, met with other agencies recently before making the move.

Tribeca Film Festival rebounds after missteps

Last year should have been triumphant for Robert De Niro and his fellow founders of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Launched in 2002 to help revive post-9/11 downtown Manhattan, Tribeca expanded throughout the city, drawing more than half a million people.

Instead, 2007 turned out to be a Tribeca kvetch fest: New ticket prices were too high, people complained. Added uptown theaters made the festival too hard to navigate, with some missing tightly scheduled screenings due to travel delays.

The volume of films (157 features) and the quality of many got slammed. Film executives carped it wasn't commercial enough to work as a market -- while others called the lineup too commercial.

So in the months that followed, De Niro and partners Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff did what some never thought would happen: They decided to put the so-called "festival that ate Manhattan" on a diet.

"We started so quickly and tried a lot of different things," Rosenthal says. "As people brought up constructive criticism, we addressed it."

For 2008's event, which runs from Wednesday through May 4, Tribeca has cut its lineup by nearly 25 percent (to 121 features), eliminated those uptown venues and set up just two screening hubs, in Union Square and Tribeca.

Ticket prices that jumped from $12 to $18 last year have been reduced to $15, and many weekend and midnight shows are now just $8.

"One of our growing pains was learning how to say no, condense and hone in on the best films," explains Nancy Schafer, one of the festival's executive directors.

The festival ran a $1 million annual deficit in its first five years -- money that came from the founders' pockets. Last year's event cost an estimated $13 million to produce; organizers declined to say if it finally made money.

In a grand irony, as overall attendance grew to more than 500,000 people last year from 465,000 in 2006, the festival's positive economic impact on the city actually fell 11% to $106 million, according to organizers' estimates. The drop reinforced what critics were saying -- that bigger isn't necessarily better.

The new, leaner Tribeca aims to achieve more realistic goals. Arguably the biggest change this year is an effort to make the fest more industry-friendly by improving the selection, logistics and services for potential film buyers.

At the same time, Tribeca is also trying to get a bit closer to its egalitarian roots. Aside from ticket price reductions, tickets for the opening-night film ("Baby Mama," starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler) and closing-night film ("Speed Racer," starring Emile Hirsch) are being made available to the public for the first time.

Other smaller-scale events returning include an athletically themed selection of features and a street fair. Attendees should expect more post-screening Q&As with filmmakers.

But all the services and events in the world won't help if the films aren't up to par. Getting the best films is a challenge for any festival, but Tribeca's slot between Sundance in January and Cannes in May (and following trendy up-and-comer South by Southwest) has made competition for premieres fierce.

The 2008 lineup ranges from the obscure (Nina Paley's animated Indian tale "Sita Sings the Blues" and the downtown club docu "SqueezeBox!") to one of the most commercial titles without distribution to ever hit Tribeca: Phedon Papamichael's supernatural thriller "From Within."

Buyers are keeping a wait-and-see attitude about this year's fest; after all, even more established markets like the Toronto International Film Festival and Sundance had disappointing sales.

Yet Mark Urman, co-founder of indie distributor ThinkFilm, says he's heard from more sales agents visiting Tribeca than ever before: "It may be more festival as theme park than as museum ... but that's OK."

De Niro's Construction Delay Angers New York Officials

ROBERT DE NIRO has angered New York City officials after refusing to reconstruct his upscale Manhattan hotel to meet city standards.

Bosses at the Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC) ordered the actor to modify his Greenwich Hotel in June 2008 after he built the structure without the commission's approval.

Officials argue the building's architectural style does not fit in with the industrial Tribeca neighbourhood and have asked De Niro to modify the sprawling penthouse, which executives claim is 1,100 square feet bigger than the design approved in 2004.

The actor has yet to correct the building, blaming the non-compliance on "mistakes".

De Niro's business partners and team of architects were set to appear before the commission on Friday (09Oct09) to explain the delay in bringing the structure up to standard.

An LPC spokesperson would not confirm the meeting, citing "the ongoing application process".

The commission has yet to set a date for De Niro to reconstruct the hotel.

According to the New York Post, he could be ordered to tear the structure down, costing an estimated $1.5 million (£1 million).

Robert De Niro's Indifferent Kids

Robert De Niro's children don't care that their dad is famous.

The 66-year-old actor said his children "aren't too impressed" with their Oscar-winning father and don't talk about his work.

He said: "My kids aren't too impressed with me. They don't say very much about my career. Sometimes they Google me, though. And who knows what their friends say?"

De Niro has four children and one adopted daughter from three relationships, and said part of the reason could be that they weren't brought up in the Hollywood bubble.

He said: "We had a house there, my first wife and our oldest kids. But I never really lived in it much. I like to visit Los Angeles., but I wouldn't want to live there."

The actor is currently working on comedy sequel 'Meet The Little Fockers', but admits he isn't sure if the film will be a hit.

He said: "I don't know if I can say it's the best one, that's for the audience to decide - but we're having fun."

Rap Star Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro wants to be a rapper.

The 66-year-old actor wants to work with hip-hop star 50 Cent after they became good friends while shooting the movie 'Righteous Kill' last year and thinks a track recorded by the pair would be great.

He Oscar winner said: "We had some good conversations. As for any future collaborations or rapping, you never know."

Despite his planned career change, De Niro recently admitted he never contemplated what he would do if wasn't a successful actor.

He said: "I didn't have a Plan B. I never quite got to the point of needing one. I did one thing, then the next. I was able to sustain myself."

Father-of-five De Niro's rapping dream may impress his children - who he claims have never been in awe of his glittering acting career.

He said: "My kids aren't too impressed with me. They don't say very much about my career. Sometimes they Google me, though. And who knows what their friends say?"

Robert De Niro's wise words for his kids

Robert De Niro makes an effort to communicate with his teenage offspring - even when they appear to ignore his advice.

The "Raging Bull" star, who has five children from three relationships, admits his words of wisdom often seem to go unheard but he's convinced the youngsters actually value what he has to say. He explains, "One of the most important lessons I've learned in my years as a father is to keep the lines of communication open with my kids.

"I have five of them, ranging in age from 14 to their 30s, by three mothers, so I guess you could call it a fractionalized family of sorts.

"But I care deeply about all of them, and I have made a conscious effort to talk to and to listen to them. Sometimes it's hard to talk to kids, especially when they're teenagers. They're in their own world, and they don't look like they're even listening to you.

"But that's the time when it's most important to find a way to talk to them - not to lecture them, but to tell them things I think are important for them to know. And the thing to remember is that, even when they look like they're not listening to you, they are. You have to accept that, at this point in their lives, you're not going to get much of a reaction from them. But what you say is making an impression."

De Niro Caught Up In Alleged Pepper Spray Attack

ROBERT DE NIRO's driver allegedly doused a paparazzo with pepper spray during an altercation at New York's LaGuardia Airport on Thursday (28Mar10)

The actor was not present when the driver turned on the videographer who had been following De Niro's every move upon the star's arrival at the airport.

According to the New York Post, the man and the paparazzo hurled verbal abuse at each other and their spat ended with the driver spraying the cameraman in the face.

The videographer claims the alleged act was unprovoked.

As authorities investigate the incident, De Niro's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, suggests the videographer is to blame.

He tells news show Entertainment Tonight, "Isn't this the same photographer that had a problem with Woody Harrelson? If so, you do the math."

Harrelson attacked a paparazzo at the same airport last year (09). He later released a statement claiming he thought the guy was "a zombie".
