People in Hollywood are just as crazy as they come. Why waste the time to have an unofficial wedding. I mean I know you have to get a license and all before its official. Sooner or later we would find out what really happened. They didn't have to get married in the first place. Usually when people get married in Hollywood, they get a divorce anyway. I didn't see this one coming so soon. I gave it 4 months :)

You are so right. Why get married? If they wanted to have a party, just throw one.

Well, People magazine pays more for fake wedding pictures than regular party pics. Plus, a fake wedding is a beautiful way to celebrate being "just friends."

'mr. Hyde' Scared Off Bride

TRACEY Edmonds broke up with Eddie Murphy right before they were about to make their Bora Bora wedding legal because Murphy became bossy and physically intimidating, and insisted his mother accompany them on their honeymoon. "That was kind of the last straw," said a friend of the beautiful bride. "She was happy to sign a prenup - she has her own money. She was very accommodating. But then it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Eddie became very controlling and they got into a huge fight. He started screaming at her and grabbed her. She was scared." The friend added, "She was even willing to change her name to Tracey Murphy, and all the wedding invites and place cards had her labeled as such." A rep for Edmonds declined to comment, while a rep for Murphy said, "We won't comment any further on this." Last week, Murphy said, "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forgo having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further . . . we have decided to remain friends." We doubt there's much friendship left.

Take Mom On The Honeymoon?

Tracey Edmonds has come out saying that she split from Eddie Murphy before they were legally married because he wanted to bring his mom on their honeymoon! WTF, a honeymoon is baby-making time, or at least practice baby-making time, you don’t need your mom there Eddie. She also mentioned that he was mean.

That was kind of the last straw,” said a friend of the beautiful bride. “She was happy to sign a prenup - she has her own money. She was very accommodating. But then it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Eddie became very controlling and they got into a huge fight. He started screaming at her and grabbed her. She was scared.”

Weird. Whatever the hell happened to Eddie Murphy. He used to be raw. And damn funny too. The only thing that comes to mind is that he had his testicles removed. Doing too many movies like “Norbit” offers no other explanation than being ball-less.

So, is "Mom" his new name for Johnny Gill? ;)

All You Need Is One Shot

A friend of Eddie Murphy told the News of the World that Scary Spice and Eddie only fucked three times! The source claims that's why Eddie was so surprised when she announced she was having his baby. Apparently, Eddie was not in love with Scary, but she was infatuated with him. Oh please! She just wanted that money.

The source claims that now Scary is asking for a lot of shit. The source said that Scary has proposed a settlement to Eddie. "Mel said all the problems would go away if Eddie agreed to her demands for a $9MILLION (that's £4.5million) house in Malibu plus living expenses for 18 YEARS."

I'm surprised to hear they had sex at all, let alone three times. I pictured Eddie jacking on Scary's butt while watching tranny porn. Scary probably immediately threw Eddie off of her and cleaned his sperm off her ass and froze that shit! Bitch isn't dumb. She probably called the Spice Girls to come over and help inseminate herself with a turkey baster.

Those Spice Girls don't have any kind of musical talents, but they sure know how to trap a man and take his cash. Ask Posh!

Surveillance

Wednesday, January 30th 2008, 4:00 AM

It's pretty clear Jessica Alba and Cash Warren are having a boy. The beauty bought baby furniture in a nautical theme in L.A.'s Petit Tresor, and grabbed a blue Huddy Buddy onesie reading "I'm a Boy" on the way out.

Meanwhile, Alba lent her shoulder to Eddie Murphy's latest ex, Tracey Edmonds, at the 50 Cent/Myspace concert at TAO Park City. The two talked so privately about Edmonds' failed relationship that the "Fantastic Four" star asked Warren to leave the VIP area so the two could have some one-on-one girl talk. Murphy, on the other hand, was busy dancing among a bevy of beauties at The Bank in Vegas.

Eddie Murphy, Nicole Mitchell Murphy sell Granite Bay home for $6.1 million

latimes

Let's face it: Eddie Murphy has his hands full. First he exchanged vows with producer Tracey Edmonds on New Year's Day on a private island off Bora Bora. Then the pair announced their split just two weeks later, before they even had the chance to make their ceremonial union legal in the United States.

Meanwhile, his first wife, model Nicole Mitchell Murphy, is moving on as well. She and Murphy have sold their Granite Bay compound, near Sacramento, for $6.1 million.

The 10-bedroom, multilevel home in a gated community has an 11,000-square-foot main house and a detached, 5,200-square-foot guesthouse. There are two guest suites.

The Murphys considered it their vacation home. It sits on 2.5-plus acres of lush grounds and has views of Folsom Lake.

There is a home theater with a video-game arcade, a tennis court, a gym, an infinity pool, a spa and an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue. The compound was built in 1996 and redone by the couple after they bought it in 1998.

Nicole also has her Calabasas home on the market at slightly under $10 million. That home has six bedrooms in 9,200 square feet.

Eddie, 46, and Nicole, 40, were married for 12 years and have five children. The divorce was final in 2006.

The comic actor starred in such blockbusters as the "Doctor Dolittle" and "Nutty Professor" movies. He was also the voice of Donkey in the "Shrek" movies and costarred in "Dreamgirls" (2006).

Unconfirmed rumors are circulating that Eddie Murphy was not only at odds with Tracey Edmonds' family but allegedly, he got tired of Tracey's mother (a realtor) of always trying to talk him into purchasing expensive property so she could allegedly reap big commissions.

Also, rumors are circulating that Tracey Edmond's may be pregnant with Eddie Murphy's child. This rumor is false, just like the false rumors in the past suggesting that Mary J. Blige and Ashanti were pregnant.

In Related News: Eddie Murphy has sold the Sacramento, California-area vacation home he shared with ex-wife Nicole. The movie star, who hit the headlines for ending his romance with Tracey Edmonds last month, two weeks after the couple wed, sold the 10-bedroom estate for just over $6 million.

The lavish mansion features a video-game arcade, home theatre, gym, spa and pool. The Murphy's bought it in 1998. They were divorced in 2006.

EDDIE MURPHY'S GOT A NEW GIRLFRIEND: NISCHELLE TURNER

Posted Image

It's obvious that Eddie Murphy just HATES to go out without a comely woman by his side - even when he's with a pack of guys. According to BV Buzz reporter Jawn Murray, newly single Eddie has already found another gorgeous successful career woman to keep him company. She's Nischelle Turner, and we've all seen her pretty face on the KTTV morning show Good Day L.A reporting the news on location. Eddie and Nischelle were seen at the Bellagio nightclub The Bank in Las Vegas, and also sharing a VIP table at Prive there. No wonder they call him Fast Eddie. Do you think Nischelle knows about Johnny Gill yet?

Eddie Murphy's Ex Says Giants' Michael Strahan Has What She 'Wants in a Man'

PEOPLE

After divorcing actor-comedian Eddie Murphy, the father of her five children, ex-model Nicole Murphy vowed she would never marry again. But that was two years ago and before she fell in love with New York Giants Super Bowl champ Michael Strahan.

"When I got divorced, I said never again," Nicole Murphy told PEOPLE at a Feb. 16 south Florida fundraiser for the John T. Petters Foundation, a charity that provides scholarships for students to travel abroad. "But some time has passed since Eddie and I split, and I know now what I want in a man: communication and shared interests. Michael and talk about everything, and we both love to travel, explore and laugh."

Murphy was married for about two decades, and while she admits they disagreed on many issues, she still considers her ex-husband to be a good man.

"Eddie is a wonderful person and a good father," she continues. "But we obviously had problems in the marriage. I tell my friends that opposites may attract but that kind of early excitement doesn't last. Find someone who shares your passions and interests."

After dating for nearly 10 months, Murphy and Strahan, who were all over each other at the three-day event – and slept so late on Saturday that they missed an afternoon polo match in Wellington – definitely have shared passions.

"We are going to Africa next month," she says. "We love to see new things and always have a great time together."

Razzies' odd couple: Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Eddie Murphy and Lindsay Lohan were named the worst actors of 2007 at the Golden Raspberry Awards on Saturday for two movies that dominated the mock awards created to spoof the Oscars.

For their lack of acting prowess, the veteran comic and the young actress with the hard-living reputation each won three gold spray-painted Razzie trophies worth $4.89.

The awards are presented by the Golden Raspberry Foundation, which announced its winners one day before the sometimes pompous Academy Awards presentation ceremony.

Murphy, who starred in the critically savaged comedy "Norbit," set a record by winning three of the four worst acting categories. Still, moviegoers turned out for the film, which took in $158 million at worldwide box offices based mostly on Murphy's popularity.

Lohan won two worst actress awards for playing twins in "I Know Who Killed Me," a film that was named worst of the year.

She also won worst screen couple for a scene in which she appears opposite herself in the tale about psychically linked siblings stalked by a serial killer.

"I Know Who Killed Me," a major box office flop with $9 million worldwide, won eight of nine Raspberries for which it was nominated, breaking a record of seven wins previously held by "Showgirls" and "Battlefield Earth."

Lohan was in and out of rehabilitation programs last year and acknowledged last month that she had fallen off the wagon at a New Year's Eve party. In November, she served 84 minutes in jail for drunken driving and cocaine possession charges.

Murphy won the worst actor award for playing the hapless hero of "Norbit." He had several parts in the movie and also won worst supporting actor and actress Raspberries for roles as a Chinese man and Norbit's screaming overweight wife.

The comic actor earned an Oscar nomination for his dramatic turn as a troubled soul singer in 2006 musical "Dreamgirls" and some critics said the widespread distaste for "Norbit" -- which hit theaters only weeks before the Oscar ceremony -- cost him support for those prestigious awards.

Like Lohan, Murphy's personal life also made headlines last year when he acknowledged fathering a child out of wedlock with Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown. In January of this year, Murphy and his new wife, Tracey Edmonds, split just two weeks after getting married in French Polynesia.

Following is a list of this year's Razzie winners:

Worst Picture: "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Actor: Murphy in "Norbit"

Worst Actress (tie): Lohan as twin sisters Aubrey and Dakota in "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Supporting Actress: Murphy in "Norbit"

Worst Supporting Actor: Murphy in "Norbit"

Worst Screen Couple: Lohan & Lohan in "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Remake or Rip-off: "I Know Who Killed Me," based on several films

Worst Prequel or Sequel: "Daddy Day Camp"

Worst Director: Chris Siverston for "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Screenplay: Jeffrey Hammond for "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie (New Category): "I Know Who Killed Me."

Eddie Murphy back in 'Beverly Hills'

Brett Ratner negotiating to direct 4th 'Cop' film

On the heels of the successful revival of the "Indiana Jones" franchise, Paramount has set in motion a fourth installment of "Beverly Hills Cop."

Eddie Murphy is attached to reprise his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley, and Brett Ratner is negotiating to direct.

Studio is aiming for a 2009 production start and a summer 2010 release.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original "Beverly Hills Cop" trilogy with late partner Don Simpson, won't be actively involved in the new film.

Murphy approached the studio about reviving the franchise that cemented his status as a B.O. mega-star. Par brass were eager to land another picture with Murphy after he finished the Karey Kirkpatrick-directed "NowhereLand," which Paramount releases in June 2009.

That film was also produced by Di Bonaventura, who is working on the summer 2009 releases "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers 2."

The studio canvassed a number of directors before choosing Ratner. A writer will be hired shortly.

Released in 1984, the original "Beverly Hills Cop" grossed $316 million worldwide and spawned two sequels. All told, the three pics grossed $712.9 million worldwide. The last was released in 1994.

Murphy is currently toplining the Brian Robbins-directed "A Thousand Words" for DreamWorks.

Ratner has been developing the Hugh Hefner biopic "Playboy" for Universal and Imagine.

Stars hit box office sweet spot

Will Smith among actors who have stayed hot

By ANNE THOMPSON

Call it the Fluke Zone. It's a place where a movie star can do no wrong. Audiences love you no matter what you do. The trick is to stay in the Zone as long as possible.

It's hard to get there. Few actors ever make it. Robert Downey Jr. and Shia LaBeouf are getting close this summer. But will auds put them over the top?

The rewards are huge at the top of the Hollywood food chain. You can cherry-pick the best and most commercial projects, and in theory, enjoy years of jet-set glory along with hefty cuts of the first-dollar gross.

But it's not easy. Beyond possessing the usual movie-star assets, staying at the top takes smarts, tenacity and an ability to tune in to what audiences want. Assuming you care.

Many stars fall out of the Fluke Zone when they lose touch with their fans. They tire of the limitations of carrying formula studio pics. Audiences see a star in the Zone as someone who delivers every time.

That was once true for Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson. But not anymore. They're maturing, taking more chances, seeking just the right balance of commercial and quality, straying from what audiences want. That doesn't mean they can't score the occasional B.O. smash. It just means they no longer guarantee them. "If you expand past the audience comfort zone," says producer James Jacks, "you're not a brand name anymore."

Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis seesaw between studio tentpoles like "National Treasure" and "Live Free or Die Hard" and more adventurous fare. Johnny Depp, for example, is never going to color inside studio lines. He followed up his three-"Pirate" $2.76 billion B.O. bonanza with the serial-killer Stephen Sondheim musical, "Sweeney Todd." Not surprisingly, it did not break box office records. But he nabbed an Oscar nom.

Looking at this summer's movies, there's only one star in the Zone: Will Smith.

The hardest-working man in showbiz is doing what it takes: picking blockbusters crammed with f/x and action such as the "Independence Day" and "Men in Black" series, "I Robot" and "I Am Legend," along with the occasional acting showcase, from the career-turning "Six Degrees of Separation" and "Ali" to his Oscar-nommed turn in "The Pursuit of Happyness." And Smith, borrowing a page from Cruise and Schwarzenegger, works long hours burnishing his press on global promo tours. All that elbow grease has paid off.

This summer, in Peter Berg's "Hancock," Smith plays a homeless superhero. Will his B.O. run continue? Nothing lasts forever.

Age is an enemy of the Zone, especially for muscle action stars. Schwarzenegger and Stallone could only last so long.

With a far wider range, Harrison Ford, 65, defined the smart action hero. He has resolutely stayed the superstar course in the three decades since he broke out in George Lucas' "American Graffiti" and "Star Wars." However, his insistence on $20 million-plus paydays in recent years has hurt him. He says he works too hard not to get paid.

He pushed hard for "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"; finally Lucas and Steven Spielberg came through, helping the star pull out of an eight-year slump that included "Six, Days, Seven Nights," "Hollywood Homicide," "K-19: The Widowmaker," and "Firewall."

It's tougher for women. While men grow into their masculine authority, reaching their prime in their 40s, women have a shorter shelf life in the Zone. Hollywood doesn't allow them much room for error.

But Angelina Jolie is breaking the mold. While she is not in the Zone -- "A Mighty Heart" proves that -- she could be. Jolie is Hollywood's first bona fide femme action star ("Alien" star Sigourney Weaver paved the way). Jolie mixes it up with the best of them. She can be tough, sexy, lethal, funny and heartbreaking, from her career-making Oscar turn in "Girl, Interrupted" to "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," in which she met her match and partner, Brad Pitt.

While Jolie's output is uneven, she can open genre flicks, forging a path for ambitious actresses to follow. Universal paid her $15 million to return to action in the fantastical R-rated thriller "Wanted," anchoring the pic with Morgan Freeman opposite the lesser known James McAvoy ("Atonement"). "She established the movie's quality and legitimacy," Universal Pictures co-chairman Marc Shmuger says.

A powerful character actress, Meryl Streep has never been a Zone star. But like Jodie Foster, she delivers something valuable: a stamp of quality (which means nothing with a movie no one wants to see, like "Lions for Lambs" or "Rendition"). Now 58, Streep proved her B.O. muscularity in "The Devil Wears Prada," which scored $125 million at the domestic box office. This summer brings the Abba movie musical "Mamma Mia!" which may not be as pre-sold as the movie version of HBO's long-running "Sex in the City," but still has a sizable global following of women of all ages from the traveling hit show.

Comedy stars also have a shorter shelf life in the Zone. Somehow they catch the zeitgeist for several years, only to be replaced by a newer, fresher comedy ethos. Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Robin Williams and Jim Carrey lost their link with the audience by taking big paychecks for bad movies or simply trying too hard.

Audiences turned instead to the likes of Steve Carell, who followed Carrey in the disappointing "Bruce Almighty" sequel "Evan Almighty" and stars in this summer's TV remake "Get Smart"; multihyphenate Ben Stiller, who directed and stars in this summer's "Apocalypse Now" spoof "Tropic Thunder"; and Will Ferrell, who also produces and co-stars with John C. Reilly in the Apatow factory release "Step Brothers." These stars like to take chances on risky material, and seem willing to slip on a banana peel now and then.

On the other hand, "Austin Powers" star Mike Myers seems under more pressure to stay a major money player. He is also battling a rep for difficult behavior. While Myers has been delivering in the animated "Shrek" universe, the comedy chameleon flopped in his last live-action pick, 2003's overwrought "The Cat in the Hat." Dumb-male comedy "Love Guru" will reveal the strength of his audience connection.

The exception to the comedy rule is master-of-disguise Eddie Murphy, who has stayed relevant through successive generations. Murphy doesn't play himself, as Adam Sandler does, repeatedly. Thanks to animated movies ("Shrek") and prosthetics, Murphy morphs constantly; his range is astonishing. In "Meet Dave," opening July 11, he plays a spaceship in human form.

"Any time we become too familiar with anything, it ceases to be interesting to us," says producer John Davis, who has made four movies with Murphy and is wooing him to play multiple characters in "Fantasy Island." "The smartest thing you can do is a family movie. Let the audience discover you. Murphy comes back every few years and builds a brand new audience. You can reinvent yourself. Other actors age up."

Eddie is Riddler in new Batman

By GORDON SMART

and JESS ROGERS

FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie, The Sun can reveal.

The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever.

The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.

The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.

Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin.

CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will again play Bruce’s assistant Alfred.

Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role.

Nolan had been tight-lipped about the future of the Batman films after being rocked by the January death of HEATH LEDGER — tipped to receive a posthumous Oscar for his role as The Joker in Batman Returns.

A film insider said: “Chris wasn’t sure if he wanted to do another movie but as soon as he decided to, he got the wheels in motion.

“Eddie’s a fantastic addition. Everyone’s excited to see what he does as the Riddler.”

I would imagine that Eddie is, how shall we put it, less expensive than the other options. Frankly it would be nice to see him in a meatier role than he has had lately. Does this mean he has to find another beard?

Eddie Murphy won’t be playing The Riddler

Warner Bros. president says the priority right now is the storyline

msnbc.com

Access Hollywood

Rumors have run wild on who will play the villain or villains in the next Batman movie, but it looks like Eddie Murphy won’t be one of them.

Murphy had been rumored to play the Riddler in the “Dark Knight” sequel, but his rep tells Access Hollywood it’s “not true.”

Other reports have cast both Rachel Weisz and Angelina Jolie as Catwoman, Johnny Depp also as the Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin in the sequel to the box office smash. The Depp and Hoffman rumor began with none other than series star Michael Caine, who plays Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred, but Hoffman himself denied it to MTV News.

“No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” he said.

Meanwhile, Alan Horn, the president of Warner Bros., told entertainment site Collider.com on Thursday that the storyline is the project’s main priority right now.

“The story is everything,” Horn told the site. “We’ve been talking to (director) Chris Nolan and what we have to do is get him in the right place and have him tell us what he thinks the notion might be for a great story, but Chris did a great job and we’d love to have him come back and do another one… we are going to be respectful of his timing and we want to get it right.”

But while Batman waits in the wings, some other DC heroes could hit the silver screen soon. Horn said Green Lantern is the “best guess,” but he’d like to see the Man of Steel back as well.

“We’re very anxious to bring Superman back also,” he said. “Probably in the next couple of years.”

In the meantime, fans still can’t get enough of “The Dark Knight” — it sold a staggering 13.5 million copies worldwide on Blu-Ray and DVD in its first week of release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Eddie Murphy's Ex: No Tension Between Eddie and My Fiancé

These days, Nicole Murphy has a lot on her mind: her kids, her upcoming wedding to Brothers star Michael Strahan and her new jewelry line, Friendship Love & Peace. But one thing she doesn't have to worry about is any bad blood between her husband-to-be and her ex, Eddie Murphy.

"They're cool," Murphy, 41, tells PEOPLE of Strahan, 39, and Eddie Murphy, 48, the father of her five children – Bria, 20, Myles, 17, Shayne, 15, Zola, 9, and Bella, 7. "They'll give each other a hug when they see each other."

Now, three years after her divorce, Murphy is preparing to wed again. After two years of dating, Strahan proposed in the Bahamas last June.

"I'm excited," says Murphy, who vowed she would never marry again – until she met Strahan. "I didn't think I would," she says. "I mean, there were good times, and there were some bad times, and [after my divorce] I was thinking, 'Ugh, I don't ever want to get married again.' So when I met somebody that I have everything in common with, who I enjoy being with, it was so refreshing."

"I love the fact that I can act silly in front of Michael," she says, "just sing out loud and do whatever. We'll just laugh at each other. We're comfortable with each other, and we have a lot in common."

As for their June 2010 wedding, Murphy is planning a small beach affair incorporating all nine of her children – her five, and Strahan’s four – into the wedding party.

"It's my second time around, and I had the big extravagant wedding when I got married to Eddie. I want to do something really simple," she says. "I want the dress to be flowy and elegant, and I'd love all the guests to wear cream, and no shoes on the beach.

And will the happy couple be looking to add to their family?

"No way!" Murphy says with a chuckle. "I'm waiting for grandbabies now."

Brown 'Murphy Won't See His Baby'

Melanie Brown has given up hope of her young daughter ever building a relationship with her father Eddie Murphy - because the actor doesn't want to meet his little girl.

The former Spice Girl hit the headlines in 2006 after embarking on a short fling with the Beverly Hills Cop star and falling pregnant with his child.

But after their split, Murphy snubbed his ex and claimed Angel Iris, now two, couldn't be his - until a Dna test proved him to be her dad.

And Brown has revealed the Hollywood star has no intention of ever meeting the tot.

She tells Britain's Hello! magazine, "I have full custody of Angel and that's about it. He (Eddie) doesn't see her, doesn't want to see her. That's just the way it is. She's very content. She doesn't know any different".

Brown, now married to movie producer Stephen Belafonte, also has another daughter, Phoenix Chi, 10, with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar.

It's official: Eddie Murphy to host Oscars

Sept. 6, 2011, 2:57 PM EST

By Steve Pond

TheWrap

Confirming the news that set Oscar-watchers buzzing over the weekend, the Academy announced on Tuesday that Eddie Murphy will host the 84th Academy Awards.

The 50-year-old actor and comedian was reportedly the first choice of Oscar show co-producer Brett Ratner, who directed Murphy and Ben Stiller in the upcoming action comedy "Tower Heist."

Murphy has appeared on the Oscar show several times in the past 25 years, most recently when he presentedJerry Lewis with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2009. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor two years earlier for "Dreamgirls," but lost to Alan Arkin in "Little Miss Sunshine."

Murphy, who spent most of that awards season as the odds-on favorite to win, famously left the Kodak Theater soon after his category was announced.

More from TheWrap.com: New Oscar producer Brett Ratner: 'Comedy is the key'

A former standup comedian and "Saturday Night Live" cast member, Murphy has appeared in more than three dozen films including, early in his career, the hits "48 Hrs.," "Trading Places" and the "Beverly Hills Cop" series. His film career slumped for much of the 1990s, though in recent years he has done voice work in the popular "Shrek" series.

The selection of Murphy by Ratner and co-producer Don Mischer returns the Oscar hosting job back to the kind of performer who handed the gig for most of the past two decades. Beginning in 1990, when Billy Crystal hosted the show for the first time, Oscar producers turned for 19 straight years to performers who had made movies but who also had standup comic experience.

I love this choice! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Eddie Murphy. The man makes me laugh. His stand-up routine was profanity-laced but hilarious. My family loves Trading Places and 48 Hours. Everyone I know has sung his version of Roxanne at least once in their life. Hosting the Oscars? This I'm looking forward to.
