Michael Douglas Admits His Failures as a Father

With his son, Cameron, in federal prison after his July 28 arrest on felony charges of dealing drugs, Michael Douglas says he was "no angel" as a father.

"I'll assume whatever responsibilities I have to," the leading man, 65, tells AARP The Magazine for its March/April cover story. "Would it have been better to have been around more? Absolutely. There were absences, and I was no angel."

Douglas said his troubled, 31-year-old son – who faces a potential life sentence on charges of dealing crystal meth – also is taking responsibility for his choices.

"Cameron has a lot of life ahead," said Douglas, who reprises his Oscar-winning role as corporate raider Gordon Gekko in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, opening April 23. "He now recognizes his own demons and struggles."

And though Douglas says his son is a "tough kid," he still expressed concern for Cameron's welfare: "He's in a federal prison, and you've got some big, bad boys down there."

Espouses Viagra

On a lighter note, Douglas shared other intimate details of his life, including his relationship with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 40, who "God bless her … likes older guys", and how male enhancement drugs Viagra and Cialis are "wonderful enhancements."

Douglas also says he is able to give greater attention to his children with Zeta-Jones – daughter Carys, 6, and son Dylan Michael, 9 – than he could to Cameron. "I'm not so concerned about my career," he said. "I see the confidence my kids have got versus the struggle for confidence that I had or that Cameron might have dealt with."

Still, he's admittedly fearful of being a septuagenarian when his daughter hits her Sweet 16, saying: "I'm not going to be able to physically chase the boys away."

Michael Douglas relishes second chance at fatherhood

Michael Douglas is grateful he was given a second shot at fatherhood in his later years - because age has made him a better parent to his children with Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The actor has one son from his marriage to Diandra Luker - Cameron, 31, who is currently behind bars on drug possession charges at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City.

After his divorce from Luker, Douglas, 65, went on to marry Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000.

They have two children together, Dylan, nine, and Carys, six - and Douglas is convinced becoming a dad again later in life has given him the chance to re-evaluate his priorities so he won't make the same mistakes twice.

He tells AARP The Magazine, "My career was the most important thing in my life, followed by marriage and children. And it's completely reversed now. I never anticipated starting a family and the joy of raising kids at my age. I think it's easier for me to be a good father."

Michael Douglas' Son Facing Jail

Michael Douglas' son faces at least ten years in jail on drugs charges.

Cameron Douglas pleaded guilty to the charge of methamphetamine - or crystal meth - possession in a New York court yesterday (26.01.10).

He was caught in possession of a large amount of the highly addictive drug in New York's Hotel Gansevoort hotel last July.

Actor Cameron, 31, told the judge he had first been approached to deal drugs in 2006, after which he "began supplying on a regular basis".

When asked if he understood this was wrong, he replied: "Yes, your honour."

Cameron - Michael's son with his first wife Diandra Luker - had allegedly called the methamphetamine 'pastry' and 'bath salts' in phone calls which had been recorded by the US Drug Enforcement agency (DEA) and he had frequently used mainstream courier services such as Fedex to transact his dealings.

Cameron's lawyer, Nicholas DeFeis, said after his plea: "I think he handled it well, under the circumstances."

Last year, a spokesperson for Michael and Diandra said of their son's actions: "We are devastated about the recent behaviour of our son Cameron.

"Any family who has dealt with substance abuse knows how difficult it can be."

'It Runs In The Family' star Cameron also pleaded guilty to heroin possession, arising from an allegation that his girlfriend had tried to smuggle the drug to him inside an electric toothbrush while he was under house arrest.

Cameron has reportedly signed a plea bargain, although the details were not made public. He will be sentenced for between ten years and life in prison on April 27.

Michael Douglas 'Sued For Fraud'

Michael Douglas is being sued by an ex-business partner, reports Radar Online.

The Wall Street 2 star is being taken to court over charges of breach of contract, fraud and deceit.

Douglas's former business associate Howard Zukor said that his longtime friendship with the actor came to a halt when "Douglas, his attorney and co-conspirators started diverting assets and profits" away from a production company both men founded in 1998.

Zuker claimed that the actor reneged on an investment deal for the business and later unfairly fired him in March 2008. He suggested that he has suffered damages, such as loss of profits, and damage to his business reputation.

He is suing Douglas as well as another investor and the company, demanding punitive damages in amounts to be determined at trial.

Michael Douglas Sorry For Son's Mistakes

Michael Douglas has revealed that he regrets not being around more for his son.

Douglas's son Cameron recently pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine and could face life imprisonment.

Michael has now told The Sun that his personal problems and heavy workload affected his son.

"There were a tough few years in the Nineties," he said. "I lost my stepfather. My dad had that crash and then a stroke. There were the marital issues. Obviously I had issues with my oldest son Cameron. I'd been working too hard and my mother had cancer problems.

"It was coming at me every which way for a while. It gives you a deeper appreciation for when things are good."

He added: "It would have been better if I had been around more. Now my son's in a federal prison. Any family who has dealt with substance abuse knows how devastating it can be. But he recognises his own demons and struggles. He has a lot of life ahead."

The actor, who has two children with his second wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, explained that he is determined not to make the same mistakes again.

"I'm no longer obsessed about work and I've been enjoying time with my family," he said. "I'm not consumed with my career so I'm a better dad second time round."

Michael Douglas' Catherine Sympathy

The 'Fatal Attraction' star wed the actress in 2000 but admits they were both hurt by the criticism aimed at them because of their 25-year age gap.

He said: "It was thrown up at you constantly. I felt bad for her."

Following their wedding, the couple - who have two children, Dylan, nine, and six-year-old Carys - moved to Bermuda, where they could escape the media spotlight although they have since moved back to New York.

Michael - who has a 31-year-old son, Cameron, from his first marriage to Diandra Luker - says being a divorcee has made him realise how you make a marriage work.

He told Vanity Fair magazine: "We always tend to be kinder or make more of an effort to strangers than we do to the person closest to us."

The 65-year-old actor has previously said he isn't concerned about the age difference between him and 40-year-old Catherine especially with the advances in medication.

He said: "At least in your head, your fire burns as brightly. Let's not kid ourselves. But God bless her that she likes older guys. And some wonderful enhancements have happened in the last few years - Viagra, Cialis - that can make us all feel younger."

Catherine Zeta-Jones Embarrassed By Brad

Catherine Zeta-Jones was too embarrassed to let Brad Pitt see her without make-up.

The actress - who has two children, Dylan, nine, and six-year-old Carys with her husband, actor Michael Douglas - always gets along with her male co-stars, including 'Ocean's Twelve' actors Brad and George Clooney, but wishes she could have more privacy on set.

She said: "They're just cool guys. I was brought up with five brothers so as girly as I was, you just have to go with the guys sometimes. But the worst thing is when you're really tired ... and you think of the solace of a make-up room.

"Sitting next to Brad Pitt and George Clooney when you look like you-know-what, it's not nice at six in the morning. I don't think any woman should have to do it."

Despite starring opposite a string of Hollywood hunks, Catherine insists her husband never shows any signs of jealousy because she always returns home to him.

She added to US TV talk show host Rachael Ray: "He's not jealous, never, I'm like, 'I'm going to be kissing George Clooney today,' and he's like, 'OK, have a nice time baby, have a good day.'

"I've been lucky to work with Antonio Banderas in 'The Mask of Zorro', with Brad Pitt, with George Clooney - and I get to sleep with Michael Douglas every night!"

Sit DOWN Zeta

Laineygossip.com

March 23, 2010

Catherine Zeta Jones has been working on Broadway, keeping a low profile, and as mentioned last week, rarely seen publicly with Michael Douglas. Zeta is 40 now. It's a sh-tty reality in Hollywood that that's usually when roles dry up for women. Unless of course it's Meryl Streep.

Zeta has made a string of terrible movies. Her new movie is called The Rebound. I haven't seen it but going from the trailer it doesn't seem like she's breaking that streak any time soon.

Also...Zeta claims she's 40. Which is younger than Jennifer Aniston. Really?

But that's not all. In a new interview with OK! Magazine, Zeta also insists she doesn't diet. She also sees herself as a "broad" girl.

What???

Indeed. She uses the word "broad":

“I find this wave of super-skinny women scary. I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve got to drag myself down to the gym like everybody else. But I look at the red carpet sometimes and it’s like a pageant.

I’m quite a broad girl, not at all delicate. I watch what I eat to stay in shape, but I’m against diets. I eat when I’m hungry, three meals a day.”

Zeta is THIN. She's even thin for Posh. So no. There is no "broad" happening here. What there is is another dumbass fronting like she actually eats. Please.

This is Zeta in NY the other day looking super "broad".

Sit your "40" year old ass DOWN.

A couple weeks ago I was working from home and watched the 4th hour of the Today Show (Hoda & Kathie Lee-- TOTAL guilty pleasure) and CZJ was on for the anniversary of Elizabeth Arden products and her face did NOT look good. Wow. Really tight plus wrinkles plus bad makeup - she normally looks SO wonderful, I was shocked. Esp the irony of her being there to promote the skin products.....

It's possible the stress of working on Broadway has made her lose weight and lose sleep (to equal the face I saw that morning) so I'll see how she rebounds. How are her reviews? I know she's with Angela Lansbury, who usually gets great reviews....

Michael Douglas' Calm Libido

Michael Douglas' libido has finally "calmed down".

The 65-year-old actor - who has nine-year-old son Dylan and six-year-old daughter Carys with 40-year-old wife Catherine Zeta Jones - insists he is happier with himself than ever, but admits it can be difficult to relate to people of a similar age as his family situation is so different.

He told Esquire magazine: "I'm probably more comfortable with myself now, probably not leading with my libido quite as strongly, which comes with age and happiness.

"I've probably calmed down. It's interesting when you have kids at my age because you're kind of betwixt and between.

"Some of your friends, the only kids they've got are grandchildren."

The 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' actor - who also has a 31-year-old son Cameron from his previous marriage - credits his union with Catherine, who he wed in November 2000, for helping him finally settle down.

He said: "I would say definitely around the time I married Catherine. I started making some conscious decisions and prioritising.

"As little children entered the equation - with a bride, an actress, 25 years younger, in her prime - the important part became them."

Michael also reveals he has experience with the stock market but unlike his 'Wall Street' character Gordon Gekko - famed for his motto "Greed is good" - his dalliance led him to lose millions of dollars.

He said: "I played. Years ago, through the tech booms. I definitely did it. I lost 35 to 40 per cent of my net worth on the 2008 crash. At the end of last year, I took a whole bunch out."

Catherine Zeta-Jones Writes To Judge

Catherine-Zeta Jones and Kirk Douglas have written to a judge to ask for Cameron Douglas to be given a lesser sentence. The Hollywood veteran, who is Cameron's grandfather, and his actress daughter-in-law - who is married to Cameron's father Michael Douglas - have sent a heartfelt letter to Judge Richard Berman defending his character and asking the judge to be lenient when he hands down his punishment to the 31 year old for drug possession and dealing.

The 93-year-old actor wrote: "I remember when he played a part in the movie 'It Runs in the Family' with me and Michael in 2003. He was a natural. We were so proud.

"Of course, as his grandfather - by the way he calls me Pappy (never grandpa) - I am prejudiced. I was shocked when he got in such a mess... I am convinced that Cameron could be a fine actor and a person that cares for others. I hope I can see that happen before I die. I love Cameron."

Cameron is facing a possible 10 years in jail after pleading guilty in January to possession and dealing methamphetamine and cocaine from a Manhattan hotel last July.

The actor has also been praised as a fantastic step-brother by his stepmother Catherine, who has two children, son Dylan, nine, and six-year-old daughter Carys, with Michael.

The 'Chicago' actress personally urged the judge to help rehabilitate him rather than punish him for his actions.

Her testimonial wrote: "My stepson is a caring, considerate, worthy human being, but nevertheless, the disease that for years he has tried to combat, did take over again.

"What is wrong is wrong, but may all these positive attributes prevail, so that a facility that he is positioned in will help rehabilitate him."

The letter also included a note from Cameron's mother Diandra - who divorced Michael in 2000 - in which she spoke about her son's recent "enthusiastic" change in demeanour.

She added: "Cameron's arrest has brought all of us life lessons, most of all Cameron. As painful as it is for a mother to have to watch her son go through an ordeal such as this one... for the first time in my life I see my son enthusiastic about his life."

Cameron is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, ahead of his sentencing on April 27.

The letter also contained personal messages from other family members.

A lesser sentence might not get him the help he needs. Also, he's going to prison (not jail), and in CA that generally means the offenders serve only half of their sentence time before parole release. There is talk in CA of releasing many offenders because

the budget problems are cutting into the costs to keep criminals in the prisons.

I suspect he's probably also had celebrity family members go to bat for him on numerous occasions in the past to no avail. He should bnot be treated any diffferently than anybody else because his last name is Douglas.

Cameron Douglas Sentenced to Five Years on Drug Charges

By Sharon Cotliar

Tuesday April 20, 2010 04:10 PM EDT

people.com

In what a judge called Cameron Douglas's "last chance to make it," the son of actor Michael Douglas was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for conspiring to sell crystal meth and for heroin possession.

Cameron was somber as U.S. District Judge Richard Berman announced the sentence. The charges resulted from Cameron's arrest last August in a federal drug sting.

In making his decision, Berman said he took into consideration more than two dozen letters written on Cameron's behalf, including a five-page handwritten letter from his father and an emotional letter from Cameron's mother, Diandra, both of whom admitted to the judge that they had failed Cameron.

In his letter to the judge Michael Douglas wrote, "For the past eight months, I have cherished my two hr. a week in person conversation with Cameron at the MCC [Metropolitan Correctional Center]. He's sober!" Douglas wrote.

"I get to witness the wonderful young man he can be. He maintains his spirit, blames no one but himself, and recognizes his criminal activity began with his heroin use."

Before his sentencing, Douglas, a 31-year-old former deejay, told the judge that was sober for the first time in his adult life, and that he was grateful for the chance to get clean.
