The Scorpion Whisperer

Posted Image

While filming Baz Luhrmann's "Australia" Hugh Jackman was almost murdered by a scorpion! Thankfully, Nicky Kidman was there. During a night shoot, the two were laying in a sleeping bag when Nicky spotted a deadly scorpion coming for Hugh!

The National Enquirer reports that she immediately took charge and saved Hugh's life! A source said, "Nicole gasped when Hugh opened the cover invitingly to reveal a poisonous scorpion creeping up his leg. She calmly told him not to move and squatted down, scooped the arachnid into her hat and walked over to the woods and released it."

The crew burst into applause, but asked Nicky why she didn't kill it. She responded, "I would never kill an animal. Every creature here has its purpose. This one just didn't belong in Hugh's bag!"

Yeah right. She probably handed it off to her assistant, so she could inject her forehead with the scorpion's poison later. Botox probably isn't working for her anymore, so she needs the heavy stuff.

'Wolverine' Scratches Out 2009 Release Date

Liev Schreiber expected to join Hugh Jackman in 'X-Men' spin-off

October 18, 2007

The cumbersomely titled "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has set a 2009 release date and one major co-star is ready to join Hugh Jackman in the cast.

According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has selected May 1, 2009 to premiere the franchise pic, which will be directed by Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi").

In addition, the trade paper is reporting the Liev Schreiber is in final talks to play William Styker, in a younger version of the character played by Brian Cox in "X2."

"Wolverine" will begin shooting later this year from a script by David Benioff. The pic is expected to deal with the origins of loveably gruff mutant with the adamantium skeleton and retractable claws, plus his relationship with Victor Creed and the Weapon X program.

Shooting will take place in Australia, New Zealand and eventually New Orleans, which leads the trade to speculate that the Big Easy's favorite mutant Gambit will be involved in the plot somehow.

Schreiber, most recently seen on a "CSI" arc, has "Love in the Time of Cholera" set for release later this year. His other credits include "The Painted Veil" and "The Omen."

`Viva Laughlin' Canceled by CBS

AP

The music has stopped for "Viva Laughlin," an offbeat song-and-dance drama that drew such low ratings it was canceled by CBS after two airings.

Even having film star Hugh Jackman ("X-Men") aboard as executive producer and cast member couldn't save the series. It was the second cancellation of the young season, after CW's "Online Nation," and the first scripted show to be yanked.

"Viva Laughlin," based on the hit British series "Viva Blackpool," debuted last Thursday with 8.4 million viewers a pittance compared to the 21.2 million viewers that watched the CBS show preceding it, top-rated "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

Moving to what was intended as its regular time slot, 8 p.m. EST Sunday, "Viva Laughlin" dropped to an estimated 6.8 million viewers. The show starring Lloyd Owen as a small-time gambler caught up in a murder investigation drew mostly drew largely poor reviews.

It will be replaced next Sunday by a "CSI" rerun, with reality series "The Amazing Race" then taking over the time period, CBS (part of CBS Corp.) said Monday.

Jackman Disappointed TV Show Was Axed

Hugh Jackman's wife and business partner says the couple are disappointed their "Viva Laughlin" TV series has been canceled.

CBS axed the show in the U.S. after airing only two episodes because of low ratings. Australia's Nine Network pulled it after a single airing.

"We are obviously very disappointed, but you have to take risks in this business," Deborra-Lee Furness said Wednesday in Sydney.

The offbeat song-and-dance drama, based on the British miniseries "Viva Blackpool," drew largely poor reviews in the U.S.

"Viva Laughlin" was the first project for Jackman's Australian production company, Seed, which he owns with Furness.

"Doing a drama that is a musical is going to be a huge risk," Furness said. "If I'm going to fail, I want to fail spectacularly, and it seems like we did."

Furness described her 39-year-old husband, who had a minor role in the show, as "fabulous."

"He did it for fun," she said.

Jackman is the star of the "X-Men" films.

Okay, I knew that there was a big age difference between Hugh Jackman and his wife but I never knew she looked like she could be his mother....

It's on a par with Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones. In fact if the four of them went out on a date together people would think it was a nice young couple out with their parents :)

 Well, when you put it like that Lea

Alright, I was just being flippant....actually just proving how sexually discriminating we (me ;) ) are when faced with age differences....it's so standard when the man is older than the woman and yet certain people (me again :) ) can't help themselves when pointing out the obvious age gap when the woman is older than the man.

All the best to them and be still my wicked mouth B)

Okay...Maybe He's Not Gay...

Only a straight-dude and a butch dyke would wear that outfit! Hugh Jackman wore his Christmas pressie from his son while getting coffee in Sydney today. His son drew that shirt for him. I don't care if Phoebe Price drew that picture, there's no way I'd wear that outside the house. OK, I would. Just for PP.

Hugh would look a lot better without all that fug shit on. Take off the shirt and shorts! You can leave your hat on.

Black Monday at TV studios

By Nellie Andreeva

Jan 15, 2008

The force majeure ax swung wide Monday as four TV studios -- CBS Paramount Network TV, Universal Media Studios, 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros. TV -- tore up dozens of overall deals.

All four issued similarly worded statements blaming the writers strike for the terminations, which are expected to save the studios tens of millions of dollars. But none came close to the nearly 30 overall deals axed at ABC Studios on Friday. CBS Par and 20th TV each dropped half that number. UMS and WBTV stayed in the single digits, with WBTV's termination tally said to be less than five deals. Like ABC Studios, CBS Par, UMS, 20th TV and WBTV mostly went after writers, producers and directors with no active projects.

CBS Par's force majeure list includes some high-profile writing and nonwriting producers: Hugh Jackman, whose Seed Prods. inked a multiyear deal at the studio in August; "The Chronicles of Narnia" producer Mark Johnson; veteran writer-producer Rene Echevarria, who co-created CBS Par's USA Network series "The 4400" (he will continue his services as exec producer on the studio's NBC drama "Medium"); the Emmy-winning "Sopranos" writing duo of Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green; Barry Schindel ("Numbers"); and John McNamara ("Fastlane").

Scribes Jennifer Levin ("Without a Trace"), Liz Astrof ("The King of Queens") and the team of Aron Abrams and Greg Thompson ("Everybody Hates Chris") also received termination letters from CBS Par.

"Production companies in the entertainment industry continue to feel the impact of the ongoing writers strike," CBS Par TV said. "As a result of this change in development and production activity, we have made a difficult decision to discontinue overall deals with a number of writers and producers whose talents we greatly value and respect."

In a clear sign about the future of Fox's "K-Ville" and NBC's "Journeyman" -- two low-rated 20th TV-produced freshman series whose ultimate fate has remained in limbo because of the strike -- the studio terminated the overall deals of "K-Ville" creator/exec producer Jonathan Lisco and co-exec producer Lawrence Kaplow as well as that of "Journeyman" creator/exec producer Kevin Falls.

Also axed at 20th TV were director-producer Greg Yaitanes ("Drive"); writer-producers Chris Black ("Standoff"), Paul Redford ("The Unit"), Barbie Adler ("My Name Is Earl"), Kristin Newman ("How I Met Your Mother"); and the writing duos of Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts ("Women's Murder Club") and Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser ("Drawn Together").

"Because of the adverse effects of the ongoing WGA strike on our business, we have been forced to terminate overall deals with a number of talented writers and producers," 20th TV said. "We regret these circumstances and wish these creative individuals the best."

Among the writers with force majeure letters from UMS were Moses Port and David Guarascio, creators/exec producers of CW's freshman comedy "Aliens in America," which is now produced by CBS Par and WBTV after UMS dropped out after the pilot. Alex Herschlag ("Will & Grace") and Cheryl Holliday ("Still Standing") also were dropped from the studio's roster of overall deals.

"The duration of the WGA strike has significantly affected our ongoing business," UMS said. "Regretfully, due to these changed business circumstances, we've had to end some writer-producer deals."

And there was more regret in the statement from WBTV.

"As an unfortunate but direct consequence of the strike, we have been forced to release some of the valued members of our roster from their development deals," the studio said.

ABC Studios on Friday became the first TV studio to invoke the so-called force majeure provision that allows them to terminate overall deals four to six weeks into a strike.

Among the talent let go at ABC Studios are veterans Nina Wass and Gene Stein, "Brothers & Sisters" creator Jon Robin Baitz and "Borat" director Larry Charles.

Cossette bringing back 'Follies'

Hugh Jackman being eyed for lead role

By LIZ SMITH

REMEMBER the 1991 B'way hit "The Will Rogers Follies," directed by Tommy Tune with music and lyrics by Cy Coleman, Betty Comden, Adolph Green? Producer Pierre Cossette wants to bring it back with a r-e-a-l-ly big name playing Will -- Hugh Jackman. (Keith Caradine played the lead in the original.) And maybe Cady Huffman who played "Ziegfeld's favorite girl " could return. I ran into her recently and she is unchanged. Producer Cossette is eager to win another Tony Award and though he has been flying under the radar of late, he is still planning also to mount the musical "Woody Guthrie" with his wife Mary ... Reports that producer Hal Prince has snapped back from his minor stroke two weeks ago are true. He has no lingering symptoms and he is already working again, fine-tuning "The Phantom of the Opera." He was seen at the matinee last week taking and giving notes. Hal, 80, is said to have his eye on the record of his mentor, the great George Abbott, who lived to be 107 and worked to the end.

Wenham, Graham join 'Public Enemies'

By Borys Kit

Feb 22, 2008

David Wenham and Stephen Graham have joined the cast of Universal's "Public Enemies," Michael Mann's gangster film starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale.

An adaptation of Brian Burrough's book "Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43," the film centers on the government's attempt to stop John Dillinger and his gang. Depp is playing Dillinger to Bale's famed FBI agent Melvin Purvis.

Wenham is playing Pete Pierpont, a member of Dillinger's crew who has a violent hostility to all authority. British actor Graham will portray Baby Face Nelson.

Also in the cast are Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi and Stephen Dorff.

Shooting begins in March in Chicago.

Wenham recently finished production on Baz Luhrmann's "Australia," opposite Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, for 20th Century Fox. He also appeared in the "Lord of the Rings" movies and "300." He is repped by Endeavor, Artists-Independent Management in the U.S. and Shanahan Management in Australia.

Graham ("This Is England") is repped by Kritzer Levine Wilkins Entertainment and in the U.K. by Independent Talent Group.

Hugh Jackman and his Wolverine Chops Look For a New Home

Posted Image

Hugh Jackman went shopping yesterday with wife Deborra-Lee Furness for a new house at Rose Bay. The actor will be filming for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" this Friday in Sydney's Federal Park. Filming started last month in New Zealand, and will later move to New Orleans.

I always wondered if they used fake fuzz for Hugh's part in the X-Men movies. I don't think they make permanent extensions for facial hair, so I guess those chops are all natural. I'm impressed.

The 'Wolverine' cast is filling up fast with all kinds of hunks -- Ryan Reynolds and Liev Schreiber are also starring in the movie. I'm drooling just thinking about it!

Hugh Jackman Strips

We felt you probably need a little break in the Oscar coverage, so why not feature some photos of a shirtless and very pumped up Hugh Jackman. Hugh's spending some qulaity time with his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness and children Oscar and Ava. Sporting his "Wolverine" beard, Hugh showed off his honed torso as he frolicked in the surf with Oscar.

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine in Reading Glasses

Posted Image

Ha! I love it. It's the thinking man's Wolverine. Either that or a super-sexy Abraham Lincoln. Either way, I'm sold. Hugh is seen here (clothed, sadly) on the set of his new movie, "Wolverine," accompanied by his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness and the two spent their time on-set chatting with the cast and crew.

There's something so hot to me about the fact that he can nerd out like this, with the glasses and corduroy, with us knowing all the while what's lurking underneath all them clothes.

Liev Schreiber and Hugh Jackman Get All Wolverine On Us

Posted Image

Hugh Jackman and Liev Schrieber are looking pretty relaxed on the set of their film, "Wolverine." The two are in costume and I have to say that if I were Liev, I probably would be taking advantage of every spare opportunity to be doing some crunches. I'm not saying that I think he's out of shape, but if I knew I had to be taking off my shirt in or around the vicinity of one Hugh Jackman, I'd make sure that I had done my darndest to try and keep up with that fitness maniac.

Don't get me wrong, he's still way hot in my book.

Jackman, Guggenheim go 'Nowhere'

Duo teams with Virgin for comicbook series

Variety

Hugh Jackman and "Eli Stone" co-creator Marc Guggenheim are teaming with Virgin Comics to create "Nowhere Man," an original comicbook series that is designed to be transferred to the bigscreen as a Jackman vehicle.

Story was being kept under wraps, but Jackson's Seed Productions partner John Palermo said it features a protagonist reminiscent of the one Will Smith played in "I Am Legend." The concept is a futuristic world where mankind has traded privacy for safety, a premise that sprouted with Seed, Virgin CEO Sharad Devarajan and chief creative officer Gotham Chopra.

"This is our first comic, and we feel the concept is transferable to other arenas, perhaps first as a videogame, and then a movie," Palermo said.

Guggenheim has also written installments of "Amazing Spider-man" and "Wolverine" for Marvel Comics. Jackman is in Australia, starring for 20th Century Fox in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the spinoff movie that will hit theaters May 2009.

Said Jackman: "I've had so much fun in the graphic novel world with the 'X-Men' franchise that I wanted to get even more involved. I'm excited to work with Virgin and Marc and create a compelling character and story that hopefully will also make it to the bigscreen."

"Nowhere Man" will be published under the Virgin Voices line, which also includes "Voodoo Child," which Nicolas Cage hatched with son Weston Cage. Virgin is getting close on its first comics-to-screen transfer, with the Guy Ritchie comic "Gamekeeper" being scripted by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell for producer Joel Silver at Warner Bros. The John Cox-scripted "Virulents" also is taking shape at Fox and New Regency, with John Moore attached to direct.

Jackman next stars in the Marcel Langenegger-directed drama "Deception," which 20th opens April 25, with Summit distributing overseas. Fox bows the Baz Luhrmann-directed "Australia" Nov. 20, with Jackman starring alongside Nicole Kidman.

Jackman Praises New Mum Blanchett's Summit Work

HUGH JACKMAN has branded new mother CATE BLANCHETT a "superwoman" for committing herself to a two-day Australian conference - just six days after giving birth to her third child.

The X-Men star was in attendance at Saturday's (19Apr08) Australia 2020 summit - where he encouraged native Australian actors working abroad to return home for projects - and was stunned to see the 38-year-old arrive at Parliament House in Canberra with her newborn son in tow.

The actress, who welcomed Ignatius Martin Upton last week (13Apr08), handed the child to her playwright husband Andrew Upton, and proceeded to take her place among 1,000 fellow delegates to help moderate a debate during the arts segment of the talkfest.

Jackman, 39, says, "Cate Blanchett is superwoman. She is amazing on every level. I think she is flawless as a person."
