Chris Brown's Stepfather "Not Surprised" to Hear of Alleged Assault

Tuesday February 10, 2009

Chris Brown's former stepfather -- whom the singer has accused of abusing his mother -- is speaking out about Brown's Sunday morning arrest for allegedly assaulting girlfriend Rihanna.

When asked by Access Hollywood if he believed Brown hurt Rihanna, Donnelle Hawkins says, "I wouldn't be surprised."

Look back at Chris and Rihanna's happier times.

"He (Chris) has to take responsibility for his own actions." Hawkins adds.

In a 2007 interview with Giant magazine, Brown reveals that, when he was 11, he told his mother he would go to jail for killing his allegedly abusive stepfather.

"He used to hit my mom...He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself," Brown told Giant. "I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, 'I'm just gonna go crazy on him one day...' I hate him to this day."

But Hawkins says the abuse claims are untrue.

"There was a lot of arguing between his mom and I," he says. "I never raised a hand at his mom."

"We [brown's mother and I] argued frequently," Hawkins continued. "As far as physical abuse, there was no physical abuse.

"I spanked Chris one time," he says.

"I became the bad guy. Chris was really mad at his mom for leaving his dad, so I became the scapegoat," Hawkins goes on. "No matter how much I tried to be a father figure, nothing worked."

As a stepmom to a crazed child who spent YEARS making up abuse lies about me and her father, I'm giving the stepdad the benefit of the doubt.

he grew up with DV then that is what he knows. Research shows that boys who grow up with it even if they don't like it, have the tendency to be violent in their own lives. They grow up thinking it is normal. I agree that in CA. they can prosecute even if the victim doesn't want it. It's too bad. I hope he gets what he deserves. There is no excuse for DV...I don't care if she threw the keys out the window or what. If she goes back to him I think she will lose a lot of her fans respect. I would never listen to another song of hers again if she goes back to him. I will never listen to him again either.

Rihanna to Cops: Chris Brown Threatened to Kill Me

Ken Baker Tue Feb 10, 7:25 pm ET

Los Angeles (E! Online) – Earlier today, the Los Angeles District Attorney asked police detectives to dig up more evidence for their case against Chris Brown.

The police are getting cooperation from Rihanna, and what she has told them so far is chilling.

A source close to the investigation tells E! News exclusively that Rihanna has alleged to police that Brown choked her while threatening to kill her and, subsequently, she lost consciousness.

They began squabbling after leaving Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party late Saturday. Shortly after midnight, things blew up. Brown pulled his silver Lambourghini to the side of a street in L.A.'s Hancock Park neighborhood. That's when, per the source, Rihanna grabbed the car keys and tossed them out the window, sending Brown into a rage.

He tried in vain to find the keys, then came back to the car, put his hands around her neck and, according to the insider, said, "I'm going to kill you!"

The 20-year-old "Disturbia" singer told police that she lost consciousness, the source says, and when she awoke, Brown had fled.

According to the source, her right eye was blackened and badly swollen and she had hand prints on her arms. The responding officers were so concerned about her, they drove Rihanna to the hospital in their squad car instead of waiting for an ambulance.

Officers took two sets of photographs of the banged-up singer, one at the scene and the second after she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment. Those photos were presumably among the evidence presented to the D.A.

After being treated for her injuries, police escorted her down a rear elevator and into a waiting Mercedes, the source says.

Brown, 19, was subsequently booked on suspicion of making criminal threats. He was released after posting $50,000 bail.

His lawyer, Mark Geragos, has not responded to repeated requests for comment on the allegations. Brown's publicist also has not commented.

A spokeswoman for Rihanna declined to comment specifically on details of the fight and the arrest and stuck to her earlier statement from Sunday: "Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support."

E! news said she spent the night in the hospital with her family there. I wonder if she did. The above article sounds like she left that night after being treated.

Chris Brown may have roughed up Rihanna before their early Sunday morning altercation, two friends reveal in the new issue of Us Weekly (out today).

Brown -- who is currently being investigated by Los Angeles county prosecutors after Rihanna allegedly accused him of assaulting her the night before the Grammys -- always had a "volatile" relationship with the singer, an insider tells Us.

A Rihanna confidant adds that bruises were clearly visible on the singer's neck in early December.

Alarmed, "I asked is everything was OK with her and Chris," says the pal. "She told me, 'We broke up again.' I didn't pursue the issue further."

Meanwhile, Brown's sister, Lytrell "Tootie" Bundy, says the singer, 19, is "doing good" in light of his latest altercation with Rihanna.

"He's coping," she told Extra on Wednesday. "He's doing ... [as well] as to be expected."

Rihanna is said to be cooperating with Los Angeles detectives as they launch a battery investigation.

For more on Chris and Rihanna - including the star he accused her of having a fling with before the assault incident, the full extent of her injuries,

N.Y. Radio Station Rallies For Rihanna

In Wake Of Alleged Assault, Thousands Invited To Shred Chris Brown CDs And Posters For Pre-Valentine's Day Bash

Comments 11

NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2009

(CBS) This story was written by CBSNews.com's Melissa Castellanos

This Valentine's Day pop sensation Rihanna won't be the only one who’s been unlucky in love.

After enduring an alleged assaulted by longtime boyfriend R&B star Chris Brown before the Grammy Awards, Rihanna has a lot going on under that "Umbrella" and probably has enough tears to need one.

In an effort to show their support to Rihanna, Long Island, N.Y. Radio Station WBLI has invited members of Rihanna's Fan Club and other fans across the nation to join her side along with others who are unlucky in love.

Appropriately held the day before Valentines Day (Feb.13), WBLI is having a “Shred Your Ex” party where thousands will happily shred Brown's CDs and posters as well as "lovely" mementos, photos or letters from ex-boyfriends, e-ex-girlfriends, ex-husband or ex-wives.

In addition to having a real wood shredder for the occasion, WBLI will also be pulling Brown's music from the station all day on Friday.

“Valentine's Day should stand for love so we find it fitting to make the Friday the 13th right before Valentine’s Day a day for revenge for those who were unlucky in love," said Nancy Cambino, WBLI's operations manager. "Whether you're a Rihanna fan or not, we can all empathize with being with someone who caused love to go wrong.”

According to WBLI, 40 percent of Americans will be alone on Valentine's Day.

New York has embraced Rihanna's music and the proof flows through the airwaves.

"We have an excellent relationship with her record label Island Def Jam and have contacted her fan club. In fact 106.1 BLI has played Rihanna more than any radio station in the U.S.A. She is our #1 artist," Jeremy Rice, WBLI program manager told CBSNews.com.

Not only is WBLI sticking it to Cupid, there is an important message behind the event.

"We want to bring awareness to abuse and to help prevent it - and we’re having fun with anyone’s exes at the same time by shredding photos," said Rice.

Rihanna and Brown are two of today's hottest stars. Rihanna holds the record for digital downloads last year and Brown was named 2008 artist of the year by Billboard magazine.

There have been rumors swirling around that the couple had some relationship issues - appearing very happy and affectionate one minute and then upset and arguing the next.

Shortly before the incident the couple appeared happy at a pre-Grammy party. Then at 12:30 a.m., they pulled up in a Lamborghini on a street. A witness told police they argued and it escalated, leaving the female passenger with "visible injuries."

Celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos drove Brown to a police station where he surrendered.

He posted $50,000 bail and was released.

"If it’s true - see Bernie Madoff, A-Rod - they are all terrible people! You don’t hit women! You don’t hit kids! I was an abused kid. It’s not right," Rice said.

Still, Americans are forgiving people, so maybe it will be just a matter of time when the dust settles and he is taken back - but like all exes, once you mess up, it is never really the same again.

"Rihanna will continue to be a superstar. She makes hit after hit. Chris Brown is in trouble short term, but there are rock and hip-hop stars that have also done terrible things," Rice said.

The "Shred Your Ex" party will be held Friday, Feb. 13 at 10:20 a.m. at the BLI Studios on 555 Sunrise Highway in West Babylon, N.Y.

I am surprized there hasn't been a public statement supporting Rhianna from jay Z-- her old boyfriend and mentor.

I´m surprised neither Rhianna or Chris has issued a statement ? Shouldn´t his PR-team be like " Sorry..... under investigation....fully cooperating...bla bla" ? And for her a statement saying "I´m coping, cooperating and thankful for support" ? No ?

Weakness in Chris Brown Case -- Prior Attacks

Posted Feb 12th 2009 2:28AM by TMZ Staff

Chris Brown may have gotten lucky because the charge he was booked on is kinda weak, law enforcement sources tell TMZ. But he's still in big trouble, and Rihanna says it's not the first time he's attacked her.

Sources say the Los Angeles County District Attorney kicked the case back to the police for further investigation because evidence that he made criminal threats against Rihanna is kind of thin. Our sources are quick to say he will, however, almost certainly be charged with felony domestic battery, a lesser offense but still serious.

Here's how it went down, according to the police report. After Chris received a text message from a woman who wrote about getting together, an argument erupted. By the way, initially, Rihanna would not tell cops what started the argument.

She did, however, tell them that during the argument, he started hitting her. According to the police report, she ordered him to drive her home and "faked a call" to someone, saying things like, "He's dropping me off. Make sure the cops are there."

Rihanna told cops the fake call enraged Brown. He said something to the effect of "You are really fu**ed up now. I'm going to kill you." This statement is the basis of the criminal threats charge.

At that point, according to the report, Brown allegedly began a violent attack with his fists. At some point, Rihanna took the keys out of the ignition and threw them outside.

And there's this. According to the police report, she told cops this was not the first time Brown hit her. She referred to it as an ongoing and escalating abusive relationship.

We're told the criminal threats charge is based on that one statement Brown allegedly made. As one law enforcement source told us, "It's kinda weak, and the D.A. is not going to prosecute a high profile case like this unless it's solid." That's why it was kicked back for further investigation.

Given the brutal nature of the attack, which the photos clearly show -- contusions on the face, swollen eyes, cut lip, bloody nose, bite marks on fingers and arm -- a felony domestic battery charge is virtually a done deal. That, however, is a less serious offense than making criminal threats.

Paris to Blame for Chris Brown & Rihanna's Fight?

There's never one side to any argument and the same can be said for the horrific feud that erupted early Sunday morning between Chris Brown and Rihanna. But OK! has learned the details of the evening leading up to the big blowup.

When the couple arrived in L.A. on Feb. 5, they "were in a non-stop argument," a source tells OK!. "He wanted to drive to the Grammys in a sports car; Rihanna wanted a bigger car so she could bring friends. They fought, but she gave in. Chris drove and got lost. They were late for rehearsals and she was infuriated."

Things got worse the following evening at the Verizon & BlackBerry Storm Grammy party at Boulevard 3, where Chris chatted up Paris Hilton while Rihanna performed.

"He and Paris went outside together," a witness tells OK!. Back inside, they got closer. "Paris was all over him," the partygoer says. "Rihanna caught wind of it and spent the rest of the night glued to him."

By the time they attended the Clive Davis bash on Feb. 7, it was clear there was a problem. Arriving solo, a stern Chris dismissed the press and made his way to the ballroom. Shortly afterwards, Rihanna arrived and forced a smile for photographers before leaving for the red carpet. Suddenly Chris reappeared as if he was going to meet Rihanna but she was gone.

"It was," says the source, "an awkward moment."

The couple managed to hold it together during the gala, but that all changed by the time they left in their rented lamborghini at 12:20 a.m. According to an insider, Rihanna found an ex-girlfriend's number on Chris's phone and that was the final straw, igniting the fight that ended with the "Umbrella" singer reportedly being taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for examination on Sunday afternoon.

Paris Hilton blasts Chris Brown 'lies'

Paris Hilton has responded angrily to claims that she flirted with Chris Brown on the night of his alleged bust-up with girlfriend Rihanna.

R&B star Brown was arrested on suspicion of assault last weekend following an apparent altercation with the 'Disturbia' singer.

Leona Lewis became implicated in the controversy earlier this week amid allegations that Rihanna "flew into a rage" after seeing her boyfriend chatting to the X Factor winner at a pre-Grammys bash. However, the star later denied any involvement.

Reports have also claimed that Hilton sparked the alleged incident by flirting with Brown at the same party.

However, speaking to Radar Online, the heiress insisted: "That's ridiculous and an outright lie. I was not 'all over him' as some magazine reported. I said 'hello' and that was it. I love Rihanna and that never happened."

Rihanna cancelled an appearance at the Grammy Awards following claims that she had suffered "horrific" injuries.

Jay-Z on Rihanna: Imagine She's Your Sister or Mom

Jay-Z struck a serious note Saturday when asked for his words of support for Rihanna.

"This is a real situation," he said in Phoenix at the Sprite Green presents the Third Annual Two Kings dinner with Jay-Z and Lebron James, as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend.

"You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that," the hip-hop mogul, 39, continued.

"I just think we should all support her. She's going through a tough time. You have to realize she's a young girl, as well. She's very young."

Rihanna, 20, was allegedly attacked in Los Angeles on Feb. 8 by boyfriend Chris Brown, 19. He was arrested and may face charges from the district attorney.

Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, tells PEOPLE that his daughter, whom he saw Thursday, is bruised, but "she will be all right."

Asked if he'd seen Rihanna, Jay-Z replied, "I don't want to go into it."

Chris Brown Apologizes for Rihanna Attack

Sunday February 15, 2009

Chris Brown, who allegedly attacked by Chris Brown girlfriend Rihanna in Los Angeles a week ago, has released a statement, apologizing for the incident.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," the five-sentence statement, released Sunday, begins.

"I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong.

"While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds," the statement concludes.

Brown, 19, was arrested Feb. 8 for making criminal threats. He may face more charges from the district attorney.

On Saturday, Usmagazine.com spoke to Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, who said his daughter is "doing OK."

As for Brown, Fenty told Us, "I hope he learned his lesson and that this will never happen to another women."

Terrence Howard Harbors His Own Violent Secret - He's An Admitted Wifebeater!!!!!

Posted Image

Well, it's no surprise that "Babywipes" initially came to Chris Brown's defense and then quickly rescinded his comments.

The actor has a little violent rap sheet as well!

In September 2001, Howard was arrested and charged with "simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, and stalking" when, in an argument with his estranged wife Lori McCommas, he threatened to attack her if she hung up the phone. When she did, he went to her house, broke down the door, and then assaulted her.

Wow! What a douche!!!!!

Howard was halted by his brother, who had followed the actor after he saw him storm out of the house. When the cops arrived, Howard confessed, "I broke the door down and hit my wife."

In 2002, Terrence pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.

It all makes sense now!
