Hedda, do you know anything about Christina's gay wedding in the early 90s? Was is all for show/a joke (I know she explains it away as being sick of men, like that drives most straight women to marry other women  ) or was it for real, and she's just trying to cover it up?

Her story is that they did it to prove a point about marriage and it wasn't sexual. It could be true, sort of a "making a feminist point" thing. Kind of a stupid point if you're not gay but whatever.

I haven't heard much about her and have never heard that she's gay from any lesbian I know. She comes across as very intelligent and funny so half of Hollywood probably thinks she's gay anyway. In this town "real" women are stupid and too intimidated by the awesome power of the men to be in a joking mood. If you let them know that you're smarter than they are, you're dead in the water.

I know Applegate's husband cheated with a co-worker, causing the breakup of their marriage. I vaguely remember that she's bestest buds with someone unlikely - Gwynnie or Angie or Reese or something.

Christina Applegate's Boyfriend Found Dead

Posted Image

Christina Applegate's boyfriend of 2 years, Lee Grivas, was found dead in his apartment on July 1st. The National Enquirer reports that the 26-year-old died from an apparent heroin overdose. An official cause of death has not been issued, of course.

A source said that Christina is "absolutely devastated over the sudden loss." I'm sure that's an understatement.

TMZ confirms the death and claims a neighbor found him.

The two met in 2006 while Christina was doing "Sweet Charity" on Broadway and still married to Johnathon Schaech. Christina and Lee broke up several times, because of his drug problems and she "couldn't stand by and watch him ruin his life." Lee was a fisherman, photographer and skateboarder.

Damn, he was young. Sadness.

Wow. Does anyone (Hedda) know if Christina is/was a user? It would be hard for her to be with him and be completely clean, but who knows.

I hope not. I love her. So sad.

I'd read that she broke up with him in the past because he was a user and so I'm assuming that she wasn't. Very sad. I hope she finds a good, healthy man one of these days.

It is Gwynnie. Apparently, they became besties during that horrible movie they made together. (This is per US's article on movie star BFF's - which also included Jennifer Garner and Reese).

That is sad about her ex. :(

I hate this disease. Over 20 years later and then is still no cure. Hopefully for her it is DCIS which is stage 0. Of course I had a friend who had that and did have a recurrance. She passed away last year leaving 3 little girls. One of my other breast friends this past week told us she is stopping her chemo. After 8 years of having chemo on and off she is tired. Hopefully she will see one more Christmas with her children. This makes me so sad.

Desertdreaming, you're breaking my heart! :( Sorry about your friends--breast cancer is a scary disease. All cancers suck. My grandpa is dying from lung cancer as we speak, and he has stopped all treatment because he doesn't want to hurt anymore. Never smoked a day in his life, didn't have any of the risk factors. He just got cancer, and it sucks.

On topic, I hope Christina Applegate has a full recovery.

Does anyone else find it odd that it was discovered during a routine MRI? Since when are MRI's considered routine and since when do they use them to check for breast cancer? I wonder if they meant routine mammogram?

Regardless, it's a shame when it happens to anyone but especially someone so young. I'm glad they found it early and hopefully she'll make a full recovery.

Where I work we have a clinic for women who may possibly develop breast cancer (those with family history, particular gene mutations, etc.) and they do get routine annual breast MRIs. Since her mum suffered with the disease it's likely she has been having screening for some time and this could be what they are referring to.

Good to hear they found it early and I do wish her a quick and full recovery.

I've always liked her. I think she has been underrated. Best of luck in her recovery. My grandmother died of it, and i have my own scar across my breast after my own person scare... SHE WILL MAKE IT.

Inside Christina Applegate's Brave Battle

Posted Image

While Christina Applegate's announcement that she's battling an early form of breast cancer shocked her legions of fans, insiders tell Us Weekly in its latest issue, on newsstands now, that the Samantha Who? star, 36, is handling the diagnosis with fortitude.

"She is doing amazing and can fight any challenge life throws at her," pal Lance Bass tells Us.

Actor Barry Watson agrees: "I know Christina really well, and I know she will get through this with a positive attitude and a great sense of humor."

With a family history of the disease (mom Priddy had a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery when Applegate was 7-years-old and later underwent a hysterectomy), the actress is well equipped to cope.

"This diagnosis is a positive reinforcement of the importance of being vigilant with one's health," says Diana Rowden, the VP of health sciences at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, which Applegate has long supported.

Applegate's battle is her second struggle in weeks, as she's still grieving over the untimely death of ex-boyfriend Lee Grivas, who was found dead from an apparent drug overdose July 1.

Nevertheless, while the actress is one of 8,000 women under 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, friends, family, and supporters are rallying to her side and she's expected to fully recover.

Check out the latest issue of Us Weekly, available now, for the complete story behind how Applegate found out, what she learned from her mother's cancer struggle, what friends and co-stars say about her strengths, plus the 411 on breast cancer for women under 40 and an update on celebrity cancer survivors.

Christina Applegate Cancer-Free After Double Mastectomy

Christina Applegate, who was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer this month, revealed on ABC's Good Morning America Tuesday that she has undergone a double mastectomy – even though cancer was only detected in one of her breasts.

Privately, she admits, "Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I scream, and I get really angry and I get really into wallowing in self-pity sometimes, and I think it’s all part of healing."

Having watched her mother, Nancy Priddy, battle breast cancer – and then suffer from a recurrence many years later – the Emmy-nominated star of Samantha Who?, 36, told interviewer Robin Roberts that she wasn't taking any chances, especially since she has the breast cancer gene, BRCA1.

"My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy," said Applegate. "So basically I had a prophylactic double mastectomies."

Explaining her rationale in taking that dramatic step, she said, "I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything. I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one."

The surgery took place three weeks ago. She did not undergo radiation or chemotherapy.

Applegate, whose initial reaction when she received her diagnosis, was. "Oh my god. I was so pissed off, so mad … I was just shaking." But then, she said, "Immediately I had to go into take-care-of-business mode."

Plans for Reconstructive Surgery

Asked her prognosis, Applegate told Roberts, also a cancer survivor, "I'm clear. Absolutely 100-percent clear and clean."

Over the next eight months she will undergo reconstructive surgery. I'm gonna have cute boobs till I'm 90," she quipped, as Roberts pointed out how Applegate's sense of humor has helped the actress endure the ordeal.

Applegate also cited her 67-year-old mother, whom she described as "a quiet warrior."

"I watched her have a mastectomy, and then I watched her go through two years of chemotherapy and eight surgeries and a hysterectomy," said Applegate. "I've watched this woman survive both of those things, so for me there was always that sense that I was going to be okay, no matter what."

Early Detection Was Key

Applegate, who began getting mammograms at the age of 30 because of her family's medical history, said the cancer was detected through an MRI ordered by her doctor as a follow-up to a biopsy she had last year.

“Besides me being really vigilant about it [mammograms and self-examinations], it is the No.-1 reason I am going to live."

Having become familiar to TV audiences in her role as sassy teen Kelly Bundy on Married ... With Children, Applegate said she plans to return to the set of ABC's Samantha Who? when filming resumes in September.

She is also set to appear in the all-star TV special Stand Up to Cancer, airing Sept. 5 on ABC, CBS and NBC and raising funds for cancer research. Applegate also noted she plans to raise money for MRIs and gene testing.

I'm impressed that she's discussing this openly--I do think it will help other people.

Now I only wish that everyone could afford good medical care.

Yes, and best of luck to her, brave lady.

I am surprised that she is not doing any chemo. From what is being written it sounds as if her situation is the same as mine. I thankfully had no nodes involved but given my age at the time (36) my oncologist wanted 8 rounds of CMF chemo "just to be sure". It was not the most horrible thing in the world but not a picnic either.

Christina Applegate Undergoing Reconstructive Surgery Around 37th Birthday

Thursday November 6, 2008

Posted Image

Christina Applegate says fighting breast cancer "sucks," but you shouldn't feel sorry for her.

"I still have quite a process until this is done," the actress says in the new issue of TV Guide. "Yes, it's hard. It sucks. But I'm not a victim."

She will undergo reconstructive surgery near her 37th birthday, at the end of November. She had a double mastectomy in July.

Applegate - a workaholic who clocks 14 to 16 hour days on Samantha Who - changed her outlook on life after her spring diagnosis.

"I started looking for a beach house the day I found out I had this little disease," she says. "You just kind of go, 'What are you waiting for to get the things that you want and the things you dream of?'

"I don't own tomorrow or yesterday - today is all I've got," she adds. "And if I don't make today good, then I'm only gonna' be p--ssed off tomorrow!"

See photos of stars who beat breast cancer!

Applegate has also taken time for herself to grieve. Just weeks before having both her breasts removed this summer, two of her cats died and her ex-boyfriend, Lee Grivas, was found dead of an apparent drug overdose.

"To be honest, I think that was even more difficult and more painful than anything else," she says of Grivas' death. "It still is a lot of the time."

She draws from her recent painful experiences for her day job as a sitcom star.

"I think I'm bringing a lot of me now to Sam, just in the sense of, 'This too shall pass,' you know?" she says.

Adds executive producer Don Todd: "She hasn't missed a beat.

"Even though I think she's probably suffering quite a bit physically, and obviously the emotional stuff comes and goes. It's just not in her to let what she's [going through] affect the work. She has that ability to shut it down like a guillotine falling.

Applegate's co-star, Jean Smart, agrees.

"Christina's a trouper with a capital T...I feel very maternal towards her," she says. "Very often, I tell her, 'We don't need you sitting off camera for this scene. Why don't you go to your dressing room and put your feet up?' She won't do it."

Applegate - a co-executive producer on the show - says she's slowly learning to chill out.

"I'm very much a push-through-it kind of gal," she says. "But now I don't. I speak up for myself a lot. If I feel tired, I ask for the time that I need...I'm living such a different like than I did before."

The actress, currently linked to 39-year-old rocker Martyn Lenoble, says she feels responsible for bringing awareness to breast cancer through her celebrity.

"I think I have a bigger responsibility now, and it's a welcome one...I love making people laugh," she said on Good Morning America in July. "But if I can make them think and be proactive in their life, that's way more important."

Applegate: 'My Outlook On Life Changed'

Christina Applegate has revealed that she changed her life after learning she had cancer.

The actress explained that she began to look at things differently after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.

Speaking to Us Weekly, she said: "Right away you kind of go gung-ho - you don't let any stress in your life, you don't eat any crap, you do a total 180 from where you were. You look at life a little bit differently."

However, Applegate admitted that it is difficult to keep such a clean lifestyle.

"Life happens and it eases up a little bit," she said. "But it's always in the back of your mind that you get one shot at this. So try to be as joyful and forgiving as you can, eat beautiful foods that come from the earth - not so much from other places."

Applegate added that laughter had helped her survive the hardest times in her recovery.

"I have to [laugh] or else I'll just cry all the time," she said. "Laughter is so healing... I think that it frees up your body to heal, too. Humour has always gotten me through the toughest of times."

Christina Applegate Kept Engagement "Secret," Says Alyssa Milano

Monday – April 19, 2010 – 3:23pm

US Magazine

Alyssa Milano says she was pleasantly surprised Friday when UsMagazine.com broke the news that her pal Christina Applegate was engaged to Porno for Pyros rocker Martyn LeNoble.

"I had no idea!" Milano, 37, told Us Friday at the Children Mending Hearts' "Peace Please" gala in L.A.

Two weeks ago, when she and Applegate, 38, were shooting the comedy Hall Pass in Atlanta, "she kept it a secret," Milano told Us. "The funny thing is, my husband is actually her agent, so she really kept it a secret from everyone! But I'm thrilled for her. They are an amazing couple, and I think they are great."

Her tip to the bride-to-be? "Never forget to laugh!" said Milano, who wed Hollywood agent David Bugliari last year.

Case in point: Jersey Shore star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, who recently made fun of Milano in Interview magazine. ("Alyssa Milano? What's the last thing she's done, Who's the Boss? It's like, 'Who's the boss, now, Alyssa?'" he said after she told Us she didn't like his MTV show.)

She is laughing off his remark.

"I think Ronnie is funny," she told Us. "He is silly. I'm sure people aren’t taking him too seriously with that stuff."

She said she enjoyed recently shooting a Jersey Shore spoof. "It was super, super fun," she told Us. "My brother came up with the idea to call Funny or Die. I called them on a Thursday; they pitched me the [concept], and then Friday we were shooting it. That's how quick it happened!"
