Zap2It.com gossipWhile it may be too early for wedding rumors, reports are flooding in that Mariah "I'm not crazy" Carey has reunited with Latin crooner Luis Miguel. The two enjoyed a romantic vacation in Aspen together, shuffling from her rented house on one mountain, and his on another. And don't forget the shopping; he was overheard looking at a $20,000 Art Deco vase that would "be a perfect present for Mariah," while she splurged on $10,000 worth of Dior ski wear, including a red "devil" jacket with matching pants. I guess she already got her present for him.

URGED: Mariah Carey will have to tone down her sexy act for her Feb. 22 concert in Malaysia, following complaints from Muslim opposition party leader Ahmad Sabki Yusof. "Everyone knows Mariah Carey presents herself in a sexy, unacceptable and almost vulgar manner," said Yusof, who wrote to that country's government demanding that the singer not be allowed to perform at the 50,000-seat stadium in Kuala Lampur, The New York Times reports. Carey, 33, has been granted permission, so long as she is dressed modestly, according to the BBC. Previously, rock group Linkin Park was allowed to perform in Malaysia so long as they weren't too loud and kept their shirts on.

LIFTING your skirt may not be the best way to get a date -- Mariah Carey learned that the hard way while flirting with a particularly handsome male suitor last Tuesday night at nightclub Marquee. The singer arrived at the club around midnight wearing a precariously low-cut mini-dress, black fishnet thigh-highs and a towering blonde ponytail.Accompanied by a single girlfriend and a phalanx of bodyguards, she sipped wine, wiggled to the music and waved to the crowd of gawking club-goers. One buffbodied, shaggy haired fan caught her eye and she invited him past the goons for a chat.Suddenly, the simpering singer lifted up her skirt, flashing a healthy expanse of thigh, perhaps in hopes of sealing the deal. Carey’s candidate took one look at her offerings and immediately disappeared back into the crowd.Apparently, actions don’t always speak louder than words — or maybe they say the wrong thing.

Mariah Plans to Put Career Back on Track

Thursday Jun 24, 2004 8:00am EST

By Stephen M. Silverman

people.com

Mariah Carey is seriously refocusing what has been a bumpy career, reuniting with her former talent agency, Creative Artists, and aiming to put the disappointments of the movie Glitter and her under-performing album Charmbracelet, behind her, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Despite having sold 150 million albums worldwide since 1990, Carey, 34, is not just sticking with singing, the trade paper reports. She is currently writing an illustrated children's book about a biracial orphan girl, with an eye to turning the tome into an animated series.

"The children's (project) is a very natural step," agent Rob Light tells the Reporter. "It's something she's worked on without the help of ghostwriters. She has a whole idea based on her biracial heritage; she thinks there is a huge audience."

A previously announced theatrical project ? The Prince and the Showgirl, to play London's West End ? is still in the works for her to star in early next year, according to Light.

Carey's manager, Benny Medina, also says the office of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Cats, The Phantom of the Opera) has expressed interest in working with Carey on Broadway.

As Light says of Carey: "For everything she's done to this point ? she's been credited as being an incredible vocalist ? but everything else, from acting to songwriting, kind of gets pushed down. Our goal is to just take the lid off that talent and let people know who she is."

DIVA SITCOM

THE comeback trail might include a sitcom for Mariah Carey , who flew into New York Tuesday for a meeting with UPN heads. "She's very funny and has a lot of acting talent," one insider said. In an effort to explain Mariah's last acting stint, the bomb "Glitter," the insider said: "It was a simple project that was taken out of her hands and made into a disaster." Carey's new album with Island/Def Jam, which has tracks with Kanye West on it, should be ready later this year. A rep for Carey declined comment.

'OUT OF CASH' AND CAREY

Page Six

DESPITE her whopping $50 million settlement to leave Virgin Records, Mariah Carey is said to be cash-strapped. "Mariah does not have a lot of cash left," said a source. "She got like $28 million after taxes, but went through a lot of it.

"She has a hairdresser and make-up artist who she keeps on a regular basis and they cost like $8,000 a day. She won't leave her house for anything without getting her hair and make-up done."

But at least Carey looks great - she stunned onlookers at her Halloween party at Cain and Sean Combs did a double-take when he saw her in a Vera Wang gown at his birthday party Thursday night.

Another problem seems to be Carey's houses. "Mariah has houses all over and she redid her TriBeCa apartment last year and it was very expensive," we're told. "She just goes through money like water."

Island Def Jam records publicity chief Laura Swanson denies Carey has any cash-flow problems, saying: "She wrote the majority of songs on every album and songwriting is a very lucrative business. I think renovating an apartment is just fine."

In any event, word is that Carey's having an auditor look at all her expenses and review the books of her financial manager and her music manager, Benny Medina.

"Nothing is wrong, she just wants to look at everything and make sure it's all in order," our source explains.

Carey seems to still be happy with Medina, who showed up with her at Bungalow 8 last week. Later Carey, Medina and L.A. Reid went to Lure Fishbar for a late dinner. "She talks to them constantly," the source said.

And she should - Medina and Reid have been hard at work creating her next album, set to hit shelves on March 1.

Carey's first single, titled "Say Something," will drop at the end of the month and features Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams. The number is produced by prolific hip-hop hit-makers the Neptunes.

The album also has tunes produced by Janet Jackson's fiance, Jermaine Dupri, and Kanye West.

"Mariah is getting ready to shoot the video for 'Say Something,'" Swanson said, "It is an amazing album that crosses all boundaries of R&B, hip hop and pop."

Love, love, love Mariah's new song "It's Like That." It's one of those songs that could be sung by anyone, i.e. Ashanti, Ciara, etc., but it's very catchy and is now in the Top 20 on the pop charts. Go Mariah, welcome back.

PREPPED: Dormant diva Mariah Carey is set to release her eighth studio album, The Emancipation of Mimi, on April 12, reports Billboard. (Mimi is the singer's nickname.) The ads for the CD announce "The return of the voice," and Carey, who turned 33 on Sunday, tells the music trade publication: "The voice has been here all along. Even if you listen to the oh-so-dissed Glitter (soundtrack), there is a song called 'Lead the Way,' which is one of my best vocal performances ever."

Carey Has 16th No. 1 Hit With BalladBy NEKESA MUMBI MOODY, AP Only the Beatles and Elvis Presley have had more chart-toppers than Mariah Carey. NEW YORK (May 27) - Mariah Carey is celebrating her Sweet Sixteenth. The diva notched her 16th No. 1 hit on the Billboard Top 100 singles chart this week with the ballad "We Belong Together," off the album "The Emancipation of Mimi," which has sold more than 2 million copies after less than two months on the charts.Only the Beatles and Elvis Presley, who had 20 and 18 No. 1 singles respectively, have had more chart-toppers."I don't know that it's actually sunken in yet," Carey told The Associated Press on Thursday. It's just the latest high note for Carey, who's been on the comeback trail with "Mimi," her first album since the 2002's "Charmbracelet." That album didn't have blockbuster sales, and came a year after the "Glitter" flop movie and soundtrack, and her breakdown from exhaustion.Carey said she didn't know whether "Mimi" would be a best seller: "I didn't know what to expect when I put this record out except I knew that it was a good record and I was happy with it."Asked why the album was doing so well, Carey said, "I feel like it was just timing and that for the first time, I feel like this is an expression of who I am."Since its release in April, when it debuted at No. 1, the album has been in the top five every week. On Wednesday night, Island Def Jam Chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid threw Carey a party to celebrate at Jay-Z's 40-40 club. The label says "We Belong Together" is the biggest song in its history with an audience of more than 157 million."I look at this moment as an incredible blessing. It's part of my struggle," Carey said. "It's made me a stronger person and made me appreciate this."And while plenty of critics doubted she would be able to revisit the multiplatinum glory years of her past, Carey doesn't plan on saying "I told you so.""It's almost as if I were to caught get up in my own hype at the moment ... and be like all, 'Wow, I'm so wonderful,"' she said. "Then I would have to believe all of the naysayers as well."5/27/05

The singer has offended her fans, by confessing she refuses to meet them unless she has a supply of moist tissues to cleanse herself after they have come into contact with her. She says, "It is really essential, because I can't get germs. I've touched a lot of fans outside."
