Lost Weekend

"JACKASS" star Steve-O won't be a part of Spike TV's Video Game Awards because he showed up to the taping just too drunk and rowdy. The reality-show loser boarded a flight from LA to Las Vegas last weekend "already incredibly drunk," a spy said, and "almost got kicked off the plane." After arriving in Vegas to tape the show at the Mandalay Bay, he "started pulling down his pants and flashing women while holding two cocktails in one hand. He was escorted from the property by security - making it impossible for him to present at the show." A Spike rep declined comment.

Female Shape Men Like the Most

Posted: 2007-01-04 10:17:45

Ladies, here's a heartening news flash: Thin is NOT in. Men crave curves.

While American women see super-thin stick models and feel unattractive and unhappy about their average or curvy bodies, men don't feel the same way. Fully 80 percent of men ages 18 to 50 say they want a voluptuous woman, according to former plus size model Nancy Hayssen, who has written a book every woman could love based on the title alone: "101 Sexy Secrets: How to Be Hot, Sexy & Beautiful at ANY Size!" Another 15 percent of men prefer a woman of average size, while just 5 percent opt for a super skinny lady.

Twenty years ago, most fashion models were a size 8. Today, that's been replaced by an emaciated size 0. Meanwhile, during those same two decades, the average American woman, who stands 5' 4", ballooned from a size 10 to a size 14. Fun fact: A 14, which is now considered a "plus size," was approximately sex bomb Marilyn Monroe's dress size.

"We're being lied to everyday. The fashion industry and Hollywood have spread the myth that men want skinny, anorexic-looking women," asserts Hayssen. "The truth is it's plus size or curvy women who are considered beautiful."

That sentiment was echoed in a recent poll of 4,000 adults conducted by British weekly magazine Grazia to find out the ultimate attractive man and woman. Men overwhelmingly said they are most attracted to women who have curves, rather than skinny women, and prefer brunettes with "long, wavy hair." And 78 percent said a woman's most attractive feature is her smile.

Men are a practical lot. Three-quarters said the hobby they find most attractive in the opposite sex is cooking.

So what do women want in a man? A stunning 93 percent are looking for someone who makes them laugh, while 73 percent want someone who will "automatically" pay for a meal. Men who own their own home are five times more attractive than a man who does not. OK, so women are practical, too.

But the manufacturers measurements from a 1950 size 14 and a 2007 size 14 are WAAAAAAAY different ;)

Yup, and what was a size 8 is now a size 2 or smaller. I saw one of Marilyn's costumes on a WB studio tour, and she was no modern size 14. At her biggest she might have been a modern size 8 (at, say Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Gap, etc.). Snopes on Marilyn

Fashion models have always been clothes-hangers, and movie stars have always been skinnier than the average woman. Now the difference between the thinnest stars and the average woman is just much much greater, because the average woman is much heavier than she was in 1950. I have no doubt that men prefer curvy women like Marilyn, meaning women with smaller waists and larger breasts and hips, but "curvy" now has become a euphemism for overweight (or, in this article, apparently, plus-sized).

I still think the modern stars are anorexic compared to Marilyn Monroe.

Awhile ago I was in a museum and they had an exhibit that included a video of Rita Heyworth. I couldn't believe how hot she was. She was beautiful. Bigger than J Lo so by today's standards she'd probably be considered fat. Still, took awhile to get my husband away from that exhibit. :D

I think the women were healthy sized. That's the difference. Rita was gorgeous. She makes Paris, Nicole,

Britney look very ugly in comparison.

Agreed.

Aaaand mostly agreed. I guess my point was that, yes, on average the sexpot starlet of today is skinnier than the sexpot starlet of 1950, but none of them were "plus sized." It isn't really fair to compare Rita and Marilyn with Paris and Nicole. Grace Kelly was 5'7" and the waist on her wedding dress measured 21", for heaven's sake. Audrey Hepburn was also 5'7" and weighed 110 for most of her adult life. So, although it is utter blasphemy to compare Audrey and Grace with Paris and Nicole in terms of class or style or talent or pretty much anything else, it's more of a fair comparison for weight and body type.

Not sure why I care; these types of articles just annoy me. Yes, the modern Hollywood actress is unattractively skinny and women shouldn't feel bad about themselves AT ALL for not looking like them. But, as a "curvy" woman, I'm a little touchy about "curvy" coming to mean "plus sized." LOL.

Yay for curves!

What mixed messages we are all being bombarded with. Anorexic models, actresses doing everything possible to stay stick thin while plumping up lips and butts and everything in between surgically!

Amy Winehouse's Dad Doesn't Approve of Pete Doherty

TUESDAY DECEMBER 18, 2007 08:45 AM EST

By Caris Davis

Now that her husband is in jail, Amy Winehouse seems to be spending more time with Pete Doherty – and her father is not happy about it.

In fact, seeing the often-arrested Babyshambles star out with his daughter made dad Mitch Winehouse "apoplectic," he told Grazia magazine.

"I do worry about people like Pete Doherty. He's a scumbag," the upset father told the magazine. "I flipped when I saw him sitting with Amy backstage at her Brixton gig. That night I went crazy. My wife thought I was going to have a heart attack. I was apoplectic."

The diminutive diva, 24, has struggled since her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was arrested for alleged witness tampering in November. She also canceled all 2007 shows, and her mother wrote an emotional open letter begging Winehouse to return home and get clean.

"I know the real problem is she's depressed about Blake being in prison," Mitch Winehouse told Grazia. "I wasn't in favor of the marriage, but they are married and I will support them. And he's shown while he's been in prison a level of maturity that he didn't have before."

While admitting to that Amy is "not very well," the elder Winehouse said he can't force her into rehab.

"Believe me, my first instinct is to get hold of her, pick her up and take her back to my house and lock her away," he said in the interview. "But I've spoken to the finest drug counselors in the world, and they've said that is exactly the wrong thing to do."

'American Idol' Winner Taylor Hicks Dropped By Record Label

Monday, January 07, 2008

NEW YORK — Taylor Hicks might have won "American Idol," but he doesn't have his record deal anymore.

The soul singer, who won the televised singing competition in 2006, has apparently been dropped by J Records, a label within Sony-BMG, which signs the show's singers.

"Taylor is going to record on his own for the next album," said J Records publicist Liz Morentin, who did not give further details regarding Hicks.

Another "Idol" winner — Ruben Studdard of season two — left his contract with J Records late last year, but continues his contract with 19 Entertainment, the company managed by "Idol" creator Simon Fuller.

Studdard is now at work on an upcoming album, but it will not be distributed by J Records, Morentin said. Studdard's previous album, 2006's "The Return," has sold only 236,000 copies.

Roger Widynowski, spokesman for 19 Entertainment, did not immediately return phone and e-mail messages seeking comment on Hicks' situation.

Hicks' self-titled, post-"Idol" album, released in December 2006, debuted at No. 2 on the charts. In the weeks after it was issued, however, the disc slid down the charts. While it sold a respectable 699,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan data, it did not reach the 1 million mark, unlike all the other debuts from previous "Idol" champs. It also did not register a hit song, unlike other "Idol" winners.

Katharine McPhee voted off by RCA

Friday, January 11th 2008, 4:00 AM

Has the star-making machinery of "American Idol" grown rusty?

RCA Records just confirmed that it's dropped fifth-season runnerup (from 2006) Katharine McPhee.

The adorable songbird is the latest "AI" finalist to be ejected from the BMG nest - following Season 2's Ruben Studdard and Season 5's Taylor Hicks.

McPhee's first CD entered the charts at No. 2 in February 2007, but failed to go gold. Her defenders grouse that RCA didn't give her the time or promotion she needed.

"Winning 'American Idol' is no longer a guarantee that you're going to make it," says one industry source. "Katharine was hot for a few months. But audiences are fickle."

But one top BMG exec insists: "It's preposterous to say this franchise has lost its luster. It's the envy of the music industry. We've sold over 50 million albums by 'AI' artists since the show started.

"We put millions behind Katharine. Many of us at the label still love her songs. But we're in the major leagues. We didn't think she could break into the mainstream. We would rather be honest." (McPhee is talking with another label and is due to star in the movie "I Know What Boys Like.")

The exec noted that Studdard put out three albums, "but there comes a time when we have to recognize the market for adult-oriented albums is tough. We allowed him to be a free agent, to make the record he wanted to make.

"The same thing with Taylor Hicks. We didn't want to shove any songs down his throat. We wanted to make an album in the style he was comfortable with. We mutually agreed that he'd work on an album [on his own], we'd listen, and we'd see where we go from there. There's no acrimony."

The BMG group still counts eight "AI" contenders on its roster, including Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry (both of whom delivered top 10 albums in 2007), Blake Lewis (with one album), Fantasia (with three), Jordin Sparks (working on her second), and Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson (both working on their fourth albums).

And though she was signed nearly three years ago, execs at BMG's Arista label are still looking forward to Jennifer Hudson's album, due out in May or June.

"We understood that her appearance in 'Dreamgirls' would only make her a bigger star," says the exec. (Indeed, it won her an Oscar.) "We are always willing to be patient with people who have the goods."

I always liked Ruben and Taylor, but I admit, not enough to go out and buy their CD's, I guess a lot of people thought that too. (I'm dating myself - I almost said 'record' instead of CD, but stopped myself! :)

Drugs reportedly led to Williams, Ledger’s split

Actor’s partying lifestyle created irreparable rift, People reports

Access Hollywood

NEW YORK - In just a few days, Heath Ledger will be laid to rest in his native Australia, and his ex-girlfriend and mother of his beloved 2-year-old daughter, Michelle Williams, is grieving. Today, new details on the former couple’s love story have emerged.

What began as a storybook romance quickly unraveled according to a new story in People magazine.

"Well, certainly Heath Ledger was a partier," People Senior Editor JD Heyman told Access Hollywood. "He liked to go out, he was a known user of drugs, he used cocaine."

It created an irreparable rift between Ledger and Williams as Ledger was drawn deeply into a bi-coastal party scene. Williams was clear she did not want her 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, around it.

"He had a lifestyle that really wasn't — at least in Michelle Williams' eyes — compatible with raising a child and continuing in that relationship," Heyman said. "Even though their relationship did not work out, she did love Heath — she loved him very much."

Though her petite frame and quiet demeanor projects a sweet and subdued image, Williams is an incredibly strong woman.

At just 15, she emancipated from her parents so she could work longer hours. And like Ledger, she was committed to her craft and uninterested in fame or the hype that surrounded "Brokeback Mountain."

"I don’t really have a sense of it," Williams told Access as the film’s power grew. "I have to say that we live such an insular life in Brooklyn with the baby right now."

Ledger and Williams, described by friends as "kindred spirits," opted for a notably low-key lifestyle in a quiet Brooklyn neighborhood as opposed to Manhattan or Hollywood.

"Heath really did take this break up hard," Heyman said. "He loved the life that he had in Brooklyn, he loved being with Matilda. Particularly, whenever he was with Matilda people were blown away by his devotion to her."

Though Williams ended their relationship in September 2007 after three years together, she is devastated by Ledger’s death.

Ledger’s other "Brokeback Mountain" co-star, Jake Gyllenhaal is also suffering, struggling to shoot his next film, "Brothers."

"Jake Gyllenhaal is the kind of a guy, when he's on a set, he's very friendly," Heyman said. "[He] likes to joke around. When he heard this news he went into another space and was clearly quite devastated."

BRIT DOESN'T WANT HER KIDS: 1ST EX

By DAVID K. LI

Brit Brit's first hubby, Jason Alexander, claims the trainwreck does not want to be a full-time mom.

February 13, 2008 -- Britney Spears' first husband reportedly claims the pop wreck doesn't want custody of her children because she can "always have other kids."

In Touch magazine quotes Jason Alexander, who claims to have rekindled a friendship with his ex in the past month, saying, "She doesn't want the kids back.

"She wants to see them, but she doesn't want to be a full-time mom. She said it doesn't matter if she doesn't get them back full time, and that she can always have other kids later on."

Spears' second husband, Kevin Federline, has full custody of Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1.

Alexander said Spears, 26, knows she's mentally ill.

"She does want to get better," he said. "She doesn't sound as crazy right now as she did three weeks ago, but she's not right. She isn't well enough to know what she wants."

Lindsay’s mom OK with nude photo shoot

Dina Lohan reveals she also had LiLo’s 14-year-old sister on the set

Access Hollywood

NEW YORK - Dina Lohan has given the thumbs up to the nude photographs of her daughter in the latest issue of New York magazine.

"It was very tastefully done," she told People of her daughter’s cover shoot.

Lindsay recently paired up with photographer Bert Stein to recreate his legendary 1962 nude shoot with Marilyn Monroe. The photos appeared in New York magazine earlier this week, showing Lohan covered occasionally by see-through bits of fabric.

"I respect the photographer as an artist, so I look at them artistically,” Dina, who manages Lindsay, said of the pics. “For him to call Lindsay 46 years later and to say, 'Can you recreate these photos?' is an honor. I looked at it as art, and as Lindsay doing a character. So I don't look at them like it's Playboy; she was being a character. So if you look at it that way, you can look at it as a mother."

Dina revealed that Lindsay’s teenage sister, Ali, visited the set while her sister was being photographed in various states of undress.

“Trust me," Dina said, "I wouldn't have sent my 14-year-old to the set (if the shoot was in bad taste). And obviously Lindsay wouldn't do anything with her sister there, that was risqué."

Lindsay apparently was coaxed into doing the shoot because of her love for Marilyn Monroe.

"She's always loved Marilyn," Dina said. "For Christmas, my girlfriends even gave her a Marilyn cookie jar. I think there's a sadness that Lindsay feels for Marilyn. Lindsay really saw it as a gift back to someone."

I think the difference between a nude photo shoot and a Marilyn cookie jar is pretty negligible. That's like saying she starred in a porn movie because I bought her a Viewmaster with a Cinderella card in it. STFU, lady, really STFU.

Amy Winehouse's No. 1 Fan? Keith Richards!

By Caris Davis

Amy Winehouse is the only modern-day pop singer who gets the Keith Richards seal of approval.

Asked by the British Mail on Sunday's Live magazine which current artists he admires, the Rolling Stones legend said: "There's only one person. That girl Amy."

But the 64-year-old Richards, who has admitted to his own past problems with drugs, also offered words of warning to the troubled star. "That girl isn't going to be around long unless she sorts herself out pretty quick," he said. "Amy's got to get smart."

The Stones' lead singer, Mick Jagger – who performed with Winehouse at the 2007 Isle of Wight festival – also warned that drugs can sap your musical productivity.

"It completely took over our lives creatively and we couldn't do this and couldn't do that," he said of the band's drug use in the '70s. "You had to spend all your time trying to deal with the police. The same thing has happened to Amy Winehouse."

Mariah knows you think she’s a ‘ditzy moron’

‘I’ve always had really low self-esteem,’ singer tells Allure magazine

msnbc.com

NEW YORK - Mariah Carey knows her indisputable talent clashes with her sexed-up image as a “ditz.”

“It’s a dichotomy, I understand,” the 37-year-old Grammy winner tells Allure magazine. “I understand that people think I am a ditzy moron.” ...pretty much...yeah.

The singer — who was treated for exhaustion in 2001 after a public meltdown — says she still struggles with her confidence.

“I’ve always had really low self-esteem, and I still do,” she says. “What’s weird about that is being onstage, and the love that you get, and the adoration that you feel from your real fans. It’s hard for a partner to compete — just imagine.”

Carey and ex-husband Tommy Mottola, the former chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, divorced in 1997. She has described that relationship as controlling and says: “I had to make a decision: either lose myself completely or learn to stand up for myself. You have to be very courageous to do that.”

She says she’d marry again — preferably, to someone who knows where she’s coming from.

“That’s a big deal for me: feeling like somebody else can’t fully understand me because they’re not in show business. It shouldn’t matter, but it does, because the energy it takes to be ‘on’ is a lot,” she says.

Carey’s latest album, “EMC2,” arrives April 15. Her previous album, “The Emancipation of Mimi,” has sold 10 million copies.

The April issue of Allure hits newsstands nationwide on March 25.

GeorgeClooney: I’m Not Returning To ER

March 17, 2008

George Clooney denies reports claiming the actor, 46, will return to ER for a 15th season next fall to reprise his role as Dr. Doug Ross.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada airing Monday, Clooney was asked if he is indeed returning to the NBC show. “No, never — we never even talked about it,” he says in the interview. “No one has ever asked me. It’s the funniest thing. The story came out, and I was like ‘Where did that come from?’ It was everywhere — I mean in one day!”

Clooney added that the reports were news to TV execs, as well. “I ran into [ER Executive Producer] John Wells two days ago on the lot … and said to him, ‘What the hell happened?’ He said, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know where that came from.”

But Clooney isn’t discounting how crucial the role was to his career. “I was 33 when ER hit, so I have a very different outlook on the way things work,” he says. “I don’t think I was supposed to have been famous. I realize how much of this is luck.”
