Randy and Evi Quaid Facing Burglary Charges

Randy Quaid and his wife Evi were arrested Saturday and charged with felony residential burglary after the new owner of a home in Montecito that the Quaids once owned discovered the couple squatting in a guest house on the property.

Santa Barbara Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene Saturday afternoon after being alerted by a representative of the property's owner that someone was living there without permission.

When deputies initially arrived, no one was home. But during a second visit that evening, they found Randy and Evi Quaid, who told authorities they had owned the property since the 1990s, according to the Sheriff's Department Web site.

Randy & Evi Quaid -- They Made Themselves at Home

9/19/2010 10:05 AM PDT by TMZ Staff

Sources tell TMZ ... Randy and Evi Quaid made themselves so comfortable in the home they are accused of squatting in ... they actually hung their picture over the fireplace.

The Quaids were busted Saturday afternoon on charges of felony burglary -- after they were found to be living in a home they once owned.

A source close to the situation tells TMZ the owner of the home sent a realtor to the house after an alarm went off Saturday morning. We're told the realtor found the gate codes had been changed, security cameras had all been moved to face up, and Randy had carved his initials in the mailbox.

When the realtor went inside, we're told he found the place trashed -- dirty dishes in the sink, footprints everywhere and clothes that didn't belong to the owner were hanging in the closet.

The kicker -- the Quaids allegedly broke a $7,000 mirror that had been over the fireplace and, according to our source, replaced it with a photo of themselves.

The Quaids were arrested and charged with felony residential burglary and entering a noncommercial building without consent, a misdemeanor. Evi was also charged with resisting arrest.

A rep for the Quaids could not be located.

The Quaids: We're Victims of a Corpse Conspiracy

9/21/2010 12:02 AM PDT by TMZ Staff

Randy and Evi Quaid claim they've been targeted in a diabolical scheme to steal property that rightfully belongs to them ... and they insist the mastermind is using a dead person to carry out the plot.

Long story short -- the Quaids tell TMZ someone forged the signature of a dead woman named Ronda Quaid on a legal document back in 1992 ... and wrongfully transferred ownership of their house to a third party.

As we previously reported, the Quaids were arrested this past weekend -- for allegedly squatting on the property, located in Santa Barbara.

But the Quaids believe they had every right to be on the property ... and insist they can provide proof of the "dead person" scheme.

Evi says they showed up to the house this past weekend to simply perform two decades worth of cleanup and maintenance ... and also to hang a self-portrait (pictured above) over the fireplace.

We ran into Randy in L.A. yesterday, where he told us he's ready to fight it out in court, saying, "If you don't stick up for what's yours, and defend what's yours ... what are you?"

Good question.

Randy and Evi Quaid, on the run after skipping another court date in California, have been arrested in Canada.

Canadian police nabbed the couple Wednesday in an affluent neighborhood in Vancouver, according to The Canadian Press. The Quaids face an immigration hearing.

Arrest warrants were issued by a Santa Barbara judge Monday after the couple failed to appear for an arraignment on residential burglary charges. They were allegedly squatting in the guest house of a Montecito home they once owned.

Randy and Evi Quaid: Fleeing U.S. for Canada to Escape "Hollywood Star Whackers"

Fri., Oct. 22, 2010 6:00 PM PDT by Natalie Finn and Soo Youn

Eonline.com

UPDATE: The couple were released from custody in Vancouver on $9,750 bail apiece ordered to appear at a hearing next Thursday. They must report to the Border Security Agency if they want to leave the country.

Their magic bail number in California remains $1 million.

________________________________

The next task for Randy and Evi Quaid, who are obviously on some sort of CIA/espionage/double-agent mission that no one understands?

Come up with a suitcase full of cash.

A Santa Barbara judge set bail at $1 million for the border-crossing couple, who were arrested Wednesday in Vancouver on a warrant issued after they skipped their last court hearing in California.

"We can confirm that we received word that they were detained in British Columbia," Santa Barbara Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter tells E! News. "Upon hearing the news from Canada, the court raised their bail to $500,000 each."

The once estimable character actor and his wife didn't get to do much sight-seeing, with border agents quickly realizing that they were wanted in the U.S. and immediately summoning Vancouver police to pick them up.

And why were the Quaids en route to Canada again?

Well, Randy at first said they were going because he was being honored with an award from a film critics group. "I love Canada," he said at a hearing this afternoon in front of the country's Immigration and Refugee Board. "It's been a very welcoming nation to me. I would not do anything to besmirch my reputation."

Evi's rationale was somewhat different.

She told the board that she and her husband are seeking refuge in the famously friendly country because they feel persecuted in the United States.

"We feel our lives are in danger," Evi said, explaining that friends like David Carradine and Heath Ledger have been "murdered" and they could be next. (Both deaths were ruled accidental and Carradine died in Thailand, but you try reasoning with Mrs. Quaid.)

"We are requesting asylum from Hollywood star whackers," read the statement the couple released to the media via attorney Brian Tsuji.

But first, their squatting case.

After relatively skating on charges of defrauding an innkeeper, Randy and Evi are now facing felony vandalism charges after the owners of a home in Montecito that used to belong to the Quaids came back and found the rag-tag pair playing house.

They were previously free on $50,000 bail apiece, but the figure was increased tenfold "to assure their appearance in court next week because they were in essence out of the country," Carter says.

They are now due back in court on Oct. 26.

Would be very interested in seeing a tox screen on these two.

They've been arrested many times - do you think tox screens would have been done, considering what they've been arrested for and how they're talking about it? If not a tox screen, a psych screening?? Personally, I think they need both....

Has Randy's brother Dennis ever had anything to say about the antics of these two?

Not that I know of. If it were my relative, I'd prob keep my mouth shut too.

Randy & Evi Quaid, Vanity Fair, January 2011

The Quaid Conspiracy

They’re spending nights in their car, on the run from the same shadowy cabal—“the Hollywood Star Whackers”—who may have killed Heath Ledger, possibly sabotaged Jeremy Piven, and could now be targeting Lindsay Lohan. No, this is not the plot of Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Randy Quaid’s latest movie. It is what he and his wife, Evi, swear is really happening to them. With the Quaids in Canada, the author probes their nightmare reality, which has alienated friends and family, and turned the couple into outlaws.

Randy Quaid Detained In CanadaBy Immigration Officials

10/7/2015 10:44 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Randy Quaid can't seem to get things right north of the border ... he was just detained in Canada and it could lead to his deportation.

Law enforcement tells TMZ Quaid was picked up in Montreal where he and his wife Evi live. It appears Evi was involved in the incident as well, she tweeted, "i love that Canada needs to learn how to wake up and criticize its crappy government ... ps we got arrested by an actual tall midget."

It's unclear why Quaid was detained but an immigration official tells TMZ he will have a detention review hearing on Thursday.

A law enforcement source in Santa Barbara -- where Quaid has several warrants out for his arrest -- tells TMZ they'll pick him up once he's brought back to the US.

The couple has been in Canada for years after legal troubles in the US, reportedly living in Montreal since January 2013.

Randy Quaid & Wife

Arrested in U.S. Border Run 10/10/2015 12:57 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

1010-main-quaid-2.jpg

Randy Quaid and his wife Evi were arrested Friday night after trying to sneak back in to the U.S.

They are truly a couple without a country. Randy and Evi fled to Canada after California authorities got a felony arrest warrant against both in 2010 ... cops say they were involved in a burglary.

Problem was ... Canada didn't want them either ... they had to leave by October 14.

Their re-entry plan foiled, Immigration authorities in Vermont are now holding them on $500k bond. It appears California will try and extradite them for prosecution on the burglary.

Unclear if Trump's wall would extend to the Green Mountain State.
