Green Day Goes Red for Spring Tour

Green Day is ready to take their road show to a boulevard of broken dreams near you.

The American Idiot purveyors will kick off a five-week North American arena tour in mid-April, the band's label, Reprise Records, announced Monday.

The six-time Grammy-nominated Green Day will hit several red states, launching the 27-date North American tour at Florida's Coral Gables' Convocation Center Apr. 15, followed by dates in Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville.

The spring fling will take the Berkeley-based trio to many secondary markets not hit in 2004, including Columbus, Ohio and Omaha, Nebraska. The mid-sized arena jaunt will end May 20 at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary. My Chemical Romance will open the shows.

Fan presales will begin this Friday via GreenDay.com, and the band is hoping not to repeat the recent U2 ticket fiasco.

Fresh off performing the epic nine-minute long "Jesus of Suburbia" on Carson Daly's late-night talkfest, an appearance on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 and cover stories in Entertainment Weekly and USA Today, Green Day is poised to continue their world conquest.

But before they embark on their next concert leg, the trio will likely be taking home some rather un-punk symbols of corporate rock, Grammy Awards.

Green Day are up for a half-dozen trophies at this weekend's ceremony, including Album of the Year for their multiplatinum-selling American Idiot. The disc, which last month reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard 200, has moved more than 2 million copies in the U.S. and is closing in on 5 million worldwide.

The band is slated for a live performance on the CBS Grammy telecast Sunday, before heading off to spread the Dookie gospel in Japan, New Zealand and Australia in March.

U2 are going into the studio with Green Day to cover a punk song for charity.

The bands - two of the world's most popular rock groups - will record a version of The Skids' The Saints Are Coming, a minor hit from 1978.

Green Day's website said U2 asked them to appear on the song to raise money for The Edge's charity Music Rising.

The fund helps replace instruments lost in Hurricane Katrina. U2 have also started work on new material with producer Rick Rubin, their site said.

'Raise awareness'

Their next album will be the follow-up to How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, which won five Grammy Awards earlier this year - where Green Day picked up record of the year.

The bands would get together "in the coming weeks", Green Day said.

"New Orleans has always been a special city to us, being a hotbed of music and creativity, and it's hard to believe parts of the Gulf region still remain devastated," they said.

"We feel that it's important to continue to raise awareness."

Green Day Unveil Secret Identity

GREEN DAY have confessed they are behind new band THE FOXBORO HOT TUBS, following months of fan speculation.

Devotees of the punk rockers were suspicious when tracks sounding remarkably like the Basket Case hitmakers appeared online in December (07), but were credited to the new band.

It was suspected Green Day had released the songs - which sport a more 1960s sound - under a pseudonym, while working on their latest album.

Four months on, frontman Billie Armstrong has come forward and confessed he and his bandmates created The Foxboro Hot Tubs as a joint side project.

He tells MTV, "We think that the only similarity is that we are the same band. That is basically the only similarity... We are four guys who love to play music and be spontaneous, (and) after a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings."

Armstrong is so pleased with the response, Green Day will be releasing the new tracks as a fully fledged album - under the new name.

He says, "The record goes up for sale any day. We hope people have a chance to pick up the soon to be released vinyl. If you want to buy it, buy it. If you already have it, buy it anyway!"

Green Day To Release Foxboro Hot Tubs Debut

GREEN DAY are rush releasing their new album - as the FOXBORO HOT TUBS.

The punk trio confirmed they were masquerading as FHT in a recent interview, and they’re having so much fun trying to outwit fans with their new moniker, the band will release its new album under it’s alter-ego.

The album, titled Stop Drop & Roll, will feature six tracks the band posted on line - as Foxboro Hot Tubs in December (07).

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells Rolling Stone magazine the new act allowed Green Day to record quickly.

He says, "We write songs as we go, on the fly, fast and spontaneous." No release details were available as WENN went to press.

Green Day Get Their Own Rock Band Game

GREEN DAY are following in the footsteps of pop legends THE BEATLES - they've landed their own ROCK BAND interactive video game.

The rockers are currently creating the game with software designers to allow fans to rock out and jam to their biggest hits.

Frontman Billy Joe Armstrong reveals, "We've worked with the Rock Band team in the past year to enable our fans to play tracks from 21st Century Breakdown, and we're excited to now be working on a game spanning our entire career.

"We want people to fire this up, choose their favourite Green Day tracks and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what it's like to perform on stage as Green Day."

Green Day: 'New Album Is Back To Basics'

Green Day's frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has said that their new album will go "back to the basics".

The band, who released 21st Century Breakdown last year, recently revealed that they are already working on songs for the next LP.

Armstrong has since admitted that they tried to record material using old equipment from when the group first started.

"It's just been songwriting right now. Instead of doing it later on, we decided to start doing stuff now... It's all back to the basics again. Just getting in a room together and start jamming," he said.

"We set up all of our old gear, which was like an experiment. We set up all of our equipment from 1992, and we sat in a room. We got in, and I was like, 'Come on, guys, we're getting back in!' and I [start playing] and go, 'This sounds like sh*t'. Everything sounded so bad."

He added: "Me and [drummer] Tre [Cool] were looking at Billie going, 'Really, you've got to pull out that POS amp?' I mean, it really sounded like crap.

"It's still really early. We've got to start translating the songs and explaining the songs, and the next step will be arguing about the songs."

Green Day's American Idiot musical premiered in the US last week.
