Grammy-winning R&B vocalist D'Angelo – who had been listed in critical condition in a Virginia hospital after his Hummer crashed into a fence and overturned – says he's now ready to get back into the recording studio.

"I banged up my ribs but other than that I'm fine," he told the Associated Press over the phone from his suburban Virginia home on Monday – two days after being released from the hospital.

The 31-year-old "Brown Sugar" singer (real name: Michael Eugene Archer) reportedly was not wearing his seatbelt on Sept. 19 when his vehicle ran off the road, hit a fence and flipped over, throwing him from the Hummer. The driver of the vehicle, Lynne Sellers, also was hurt, and she and D'Angelo were taken to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.

As for the accident, D'Angelo said, "To tell you the truth, I don't really remember anything."

Police continue to investigate the accident.

D'Angelo and his lawyer and business adviser, L. Londell McMillan, told AP on Monday that the injuries were not serious. They said he was banged up and bruised but apparently had no broken bones.

"He has no cast on his body," McMillan said from his New York office. "He's walking around and he's certainly talking." In an earlier statement, McMillan said: "He is anxious to finish the recording of his soul masterpiece that the world has patiently awaited."

Earlier this month. D'Angelo received a suspended prison sentence after pleading no contest to felony cocaine possession. He was sentenced to three years in prison with all three years suspended, and he was asked to pay court costs.

D'Angelo Responds To Alleged Solicitation

D'Angelo has reportedly issued a statement following claims that he was arrested over the weekend.

The R&B singer was reportedly taken into custody after allegedly offering an undercover policewoman $40 (£27.50) for oral sex in New York on Saturday.

According to Entertainment Weekly, a statement from the star's manager claimed that he has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

"We know there is a lot of speculation in regard to the arrest of D'Angelo in New York City this past weekend. We would like his fans and the public at large to know that D’Angelo has pled not guilty and is contesting the allegations made against him," it read.

"D'Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions."

The statement added that the singer "is in good health" and "extremely excited about his forthcoming new album".
