Beyonce and Jay-Z

Recommended Posts

(NYDailynews.com)The prince and the popsterDid Charles and Camilla or our local hip-hop royalty, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, throw the best party Tuesday? While the Windsors sipped cocktails at the Museum of Modern Art, the singer rocked Cipriani at its Wall Street concert series. Some groused that several expected big names did not turn up to bow and curtsy at MoMA, although Sting, Diane Sawyer, Henry Kissinger and Donald Trump made themselves monarchists for an evening. Robert De Niro, Jerry Seinfeld, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker were rumored no-shows, but the British Consulate wouldn't confirm who was invited to the event. But Fergie (Duchess of York, not Black Eyed Pea) implied she was persona non grata. "They don't want to see me! They can see me in England!" she told us downtown at Beyoncé's bash. And Jay-Z is clearly enjoying the speculation that the very unpregnant-looking popster is carrying his child."Clear it up?" Jay told us coyly. "Nahhh. Write what you want. Sell papers!"Venus Williams even suggested a name for the baby: "Jay-B!""They should name it 'Fabulous,'" added Lisa Gastineau."Well, Beyoncé is her family name so I'm going to go with Knowles," mused Rolling Stone's Toure. "Who exactly is Jay-Z again?" queried Fergie.Onstage, Beyoncé ripped off the bottom half of her sequined gown during the "Crazy in Love" finale, revealing her usual flat tummy. No baby there!Maybe Katie Holmes knows where it is.

(Hellomagazine.com)10 NOVEMBER 2005 Stars and their fragrances have been making headlines this week. First there was Gwyneth Paltrow promoting Estee Lauder's Pleasures perfume in London, then on Wednesday it was the turn of Beyonce Knowles to launch her new fragrance for Tommy Hilfiger. The former Destiny's Child star was looking glamorous as ever as she took time off from work on her new Cajun album – due for release after the band's Greatest Hits collection - to present True Star Gold to fans in a top Chicago department store. And the stunning 24-year-old had obviously chosen her outfit for the occasion, a blossom-embroidered denim ensemble, with care - to reflect the new scent's flower and fruit-based notes.

(Yahoo.com)Destiny's Child Big Finale It's a wrap for Destiny's Child. The chart-topping R&B superstars gave what was billed as their swan-song performance Tuesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel turned over his entire show to the trio, in a first for the ABC late-night gabfest--and a last for Beyonce Knowles, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. They performed both indoors and outdoors for nearly 1,000 fans, treating radio contest winners flown in from all over the United States to a rendition of their 2001 smash "Survivor." The trio also gave its first and apparently last public performance of the new single "Stand Up for Love." Asked by Kimmel if the split would be permanent, Rowland seemed to leave the door open for a future reunion. "You never know," she replied But the singer admitted the group was done for, at least for the time being. "I think the most beautiful thing is that we're not parting because there were problems," Rowland added. "We're parting because we're celebrating each others' growth." Destiny's Child has been one of the most popular groups in the world, selling more than 40 million records since bursting on the scene in 1997 with the hit "No No No (Part 1)." Despite several lineup changes (original members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson replaced by Williams and Farrah Franklin, who was eventually booted), the group dominated the charts with songs like "Independent Women, Part 1" and "Bootylicious." They scored back-to-back Grammys in the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group category for 2000's "Say My Name" and 2001's "Survivor." The trio took a hiatus following the release of the Survivor album in 2001 to pursue solo projects. It was at this point that Beyonce became a single-monikered superstar with the multiplatinum success of Dangerously in Love, which went on to capture five Grammys. Rowland and Williams also released less heralded efforts. Rowland's 2002 album, Simply Deep, featured her Grammy-winning duet with Nelly, "Dilemma," while Williams came out with two solo albums--2002's Heart to Yours and 2004's Do You Know--that failed to make much of a splash. With Beyonce's meteoric rise, rumors were rampant that the band would never pick up where they left off. But last year, Destiny's Child regrouped to record Destiny Fulfilled, which, appropriately, would become the trio's final studio album. The threesome announced its split in June. "Now is the time to pursue our personal goals and solo efforts in earnest," they said in a statement. "We want to thank all of our fans for their incredible love and support and hope to see you all again as we continue fulfilling our destinies." They had some loose ends to tie up first, wrapping a tour, collecting awards, shooting a Wal-Mart commercial and releasing the greatest hits package, #1's, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 this month, and finally the Kimmel appearance. Tuesday's gig was attended by mostly teenage and twentysomething female fans, who were in mourning. Vivian Johnson, of Los Angeles, waited over two hours in line to see the group. "I'm sad," she said. "They shouldn't leave us...they need to do a reunion tour, like next week."

(NYDailynews.com)Jay-Z at the height of affluenceFor a guy who's supposedly retired, Jay-Z seems to be scraping by. At least he has a place to live — in fact, maybe he has too many places. The rapper-turned-record-exec recently bought the condo he'd been renting in the Time Warner Center. After paying about $40,000 a month, he's believed to have spent about $15 million for the 76th-floor unit with four bedrooms, six bathrooms and a private terrace. Meanwhile, Jay (left, with girlfriend Beyoncé) is pushing ahead on renovating a seventh-floor penthouse in Tribeca. The Def Jam chief came close to buying the pad from ad mogul Peter Arnell two years ago — only to have some residents of the Hudson St. building sabotage the sale by warning of Jay-Z's "criminal record and ... lifestyle of knives, guns and violence."But after Arnell filed a lawsuit against the troublemakers, Jay bought the place in September 2004, paying $6.85 million. "His neighbors have become very lovey-dovey to him," a source tells us. Word is that Jay is spending close to $20 million fixing up the place, which boasts 3,000 square feet of terraces.Which apartment will the hip-hop star, who had been living in a penthouse in Fort Lee, N.J., choose as his home?Life & Style points out that Beyonce's mom, Tina Knowles, also has a place in the Time Warner Center. "Nothing spoils a romantic evening faster than having your girlfriend's mother conveniently 'drop by,'" an insider tells the mag

(NYDailynews.com)Solo act: Jay-Z says family trauma left him wary with women Jay-Z's willing to hit the red carpet with Beyoncé, but don’t look for him on the aisle. If Beyoncé has been having trouble getting her boyfriend, Jay-Z, to the altar, she can thank his father. The hip-hop mogul admits that he hasn't allowed himself to get close to anyone since his dad, Adnes Reeves, walked out on his family more than 20 years ago."I became more guarded," the rapper and Def Jam CEO says in an unusually revealing interview in Rolling Stone. "I never wanted to be attached to something and get that taken away again. And it affects my relationships with women. 'Cause even when I was with women I wasn't really with them." His father wound stems from a fight in which Jay's uncle was stabbed in the chest. Reeves became consumed with wreaking revenge on his brother's killer. Having reconciled with Reeves shortly before his death in 2003, Jay confides that, at 35, he's ready to become a father himself in "the next five years."But the man who grew up as Sean Carter is still keeping people at a distance. After spending two years working with writer Dream Hampton on his memoir, "The Black Book," Jay doesn't want the public to read it. In fact, he can't bring himself to read it. "I know that people really want to know about me," he says, "and I thought I was OK with it, but as it got closer and closer, I said, 'What am I doing?'"Hampton, we hear, is far from pleased with her subject's sudden shyness. Particularly when he's so eager to cash in on his fame by offering his image to any corporation through his Jay-Z Blue licensing company.Former business partner Damon Dash isn't impressed by the transformation of Sean Carter."One time in the winter, when he first took the [Def Jam] job, we got on an elevator," says Damon. "He had on a suit with shoes and a trench coat. And I had on my State Property and my hat to the side. It was ill. Our conversation was brief, wasn't no malice but he was not the same person I had met."

JAY-Z EYES REAL ESTATE

IT’S not enough that Jay-Z wants to run Def Jam - he also has set his sights on being a real-estate magnate like his idol, former NBA star Magic Johnson. The two were overheard at Philippe the other night “finalizing the buying of a building in Harlem,” said our spy. Jay-Z’s rep denies he’s getting into real estate but acknowledged the two had dinner. Meanwhile, Jay-Z still appears to be happy with his girlfriend Beyoncé Knowles - but he seems distracted while she’s out of town working on “Dreamgirls.” Witnesses saw the rapper/mogul hanging out with two lovely ladies at the kickoff for the Armory Art Show at Nikki Beach the other night. “We were upstairs in the VIP area and he was with these two gorgeous women and started talking to a friend,” one source said. “He said, ‘You gotta leave now man, I’m busy getting with these two girls.’ They all three left together later.” Jay-Z’s rep said, “He was also hanging with Jimmy Iovine and 20 others that your spy missed.”

Rumors are beginning to circulate that Rihanna is becoming uncomfortably close to her mentor Jay Z. And that closeness reportedly bothers Jay Z's longtime girlfriend Beyonce. As one entertainment insider tells us, "Rihanna is desperately trying to steal Beyonce's look, her style, and even her sound ... I wouldn't be surprised if now she's trying to steal Beyonce's man."

At a recent NJ Nets game, Beyonce's frustration boiled over. According to a fan seated near the couple, Beyonce lost her cool when Jay Z received a 15 minute telephone call from Rihanna. Beyonce reportedly yelled out "why do you keep talking to her" and stormed out of the arena before Jay Z had a chance to explain.

And in a MediaTakeOut.com exclusive, we have learned that Beyonce may truly have something to worry about. Last month, while Beyonce was in Los Angeles accepting a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, Jay Z was reportedly in New York City wining and dining Rihanna. While the two did attend a series of business meetings, they also had dinner for two at Cipriani's and later that evening the pair was spotted entering one of the private rooms at Jay Z's 40/40 club. Our spy tells us that Jay Z and the young singer were all alone in the screened off room for more than four hours.

We contacted one of Jay Z's representatives who admitted that the Jigga Man and Rihanna have been spending a lot of time together. But the rep vehemently denied that anything is going one between the two. According to the rep, "it takes a lot to groom an artist and Jay's just putting in the work."

Don't ask for Cristal at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club. The rapper-turned-Def Jam CEO has been drinking the top-shelf Champagne for years. But he's taken it off his club's menu after Cristal managing director Frédéric Rouzaud told The Economist that he resented the "unwelcome attention" to the bubbly from the hip-hop community. Nets investor Jay, whose June 25 Radio City concert sold out in one minute, said: "I view his comments as racist and will no longer support any of his products through any of my various brands."...

From eonline:Unfortunately for Beyoncé Knowles, she couldn't guess who was coming to dinner. The singer was taken by surprise Wednesday when she dined with some people she believed were fans who had won a meal with her in an eBay auction, but were actually representatives from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which, unbeknownst to Knowles, had placed the winning bid on the dinner date. The organization claimed it had repeatedly tried to contact Knowles by fax, mail, taking out a full-page add in Billboard and even staging demonstrations outside her concerts to no avail. So when the opportunity came up to share a meal with the star, the group jumped at the chance. According to a release issued by the organization, the PETA activists were picked up by car and whisked to swanky Manhattan eatery Nobu 57, where they used their time with Knowles to grill her about using fur in her House of Dereon clothing line and in her personal wardrobe. To break the ice, one activist reportedly began with an appeal to the ex-Destiny's Child singer: "Beyoncé, many of your fans would like to know why you don't care about how minks, foxes, and chinchillas are gassed, strangled, and electrocuted for vanity and if you might have it in your heart to recognize that fur is not only cheap and tacky but also horribly cruel." Video of the conversation, available on TMZ.com, shows a stunned Knowles refusing to respond to the queries and asking others in her group, which included her mother and sister, to do something about her less than welcome guests. "I don't think people would not like you if you didn't wear fur, you know what I mean? You're so gorgeous, you don't really need to kill animals," one activist persists. PETA also claims that its fur opponent managed to whisk out a portable DVD player and show the singer footage of animals being trapped, drowned and electrocuted for their pelts. Eventually, the PETA people were escorted out, despite their claims that they "respect [beyoncé's] work." The group used the dinner to draw attention to their FurIsDead.com Website, which, unsurprisingly, promotes an anti-fur agenda. A spokesperson for Knowles said she had no comment on the incident. Last week, Knowles announced that she was launching a nation-wide search for an all-female band to back her on her upcoming solo tour. Her latest album, B'Day, will be released internationally on Sept. 4--coinciding with her 25th birthday--and Stateside on Sept. 5.

June 21, 2006 -- JAY-Z will exact revenge on his once-beloved Cristal Champagne at the concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of his classic album, "Reasonable Doubt," on Sunday. We're told the rap icon will change the lyrics of some Cristal-plugging songs from "Reasonable Doubt" - "Can't Knock the Hustle," "Dead Presidents," "Feelin' It" and "Brooklyn's Finest" - when he performs them at Radio City Music Hall. Meanwhile, the Beyoncé-dating president and CEO of Def Jam tells Page Six that he intends to stand by his decision last week to pull the pricey bubbly from his 40/40 Clubs in Manhattan and Atlantic City. "The response from our customers at 40/40 has been incredible," Jay-Z said in a statement. "This weekend, we sold more bottles of Krug and Perrier Jouet than [ever] and we expect that trend to continue. They are great products and we are glad they have embraced us with open arms." Jay-Z spokesman Ron Berkowitz added, "You can bet that Cristal will not be in Jay's lyrics on Sunday. What will replace it, only he knows at the time, because he rhymes on the fly - so don't be surprised to hear something different." Jay-Z popped his cork last week after Cristal honcho Federic Rouzard, the managing director of Louis Roederer Cristal, told The Economist that his company views its unsought association with the hip-hop world with "curiosity and serenity." The snooty Rouzard added, "We can't forbid people from buying it. I'm sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business." Jay-Z branded Rouzard's comments "racist" and vowed to "no longer support any of his products through any of his various brands, including the 40/40 Club nor in my personal life." Cristal issued a statement in a lame attempt to placate Jay-Z and others offended by Rouzard's comments: "A house like Louis Roederer would not have existed since 1776 without being totally open and tolerant to all forms of culture and art, including the most recent musical and fashion styles which - like hip-hop - keep us in touch with modernity," a company spokesman told allhiphop.com. Sean Combs, Kanye West and Trina are among other hip-hop stars who have plugged Cristal in their songs. No word on whether they plan to join Jay-Z's boycott.

In the muggy doldrums of July, Lowdown's thoughts turn to civil litigation.Yesterday, bootylicious Beyoncé Knowles got smacked with a $1.5 million lawsuit by a man who claims she breached a contract and didn't pay him enough for brokering the launch of the House of Dereon, her clothing line.First Beyoncé. Manhattan businessman Greg Walker claims he introduced Jay-Z's girlfriend and her mom, Tina Knowles, to the folks over at Wear Me Apparel, Inc. (also defendants in his lawsuit), and that Beyoncé ponied up a pitiable $25,000 while Wear Me paid him only $85,000. While that might sound like a nice chunk of change, Walker maintains Beyoncé received "approximately $15 million" in the licensing deal - and his contract calls for him to get a whole lot more.Beyoncé's apparently vacationing spokeswoman didn't respond to detailed phone and E-mail messages.

Beyonce gives you an idea of what it would be like to have her to come home to every night in this Giant Magazine photoshoot. Jay-Z is a lucky lucky man. It's not all sexy negligee and come hither looks, though. She's not afraid to make the universally un-sexy hot as hell. Curlers, shower caps, high-rise panties. Yowza, she works it all. I'll never look at my grandmother's underwear in the same way again.

Beyoncé Opens Up About Fights with Dad

FRIDAY JULY 14, 2006 08:20AM EST

Beyoncé Knowles kept the recording of her upcoming album, B'Day, under very tights wraps – sealing its secrets even from her father and manager, Matthew Knowles.

As the former Destiny's Child tells Giant magazine, however, she had her personal reasons.

"It took awhile for me and my dad to have an understanding," she says in excerpts from the interview on MTV.com. "When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock. And we had our issues."

Among them, she says, "I'd say 'No' to something, and he'd book it anyway. Then I'd have to do it because I'd look bad (if I didn't)."

Admitting she and her father "would fight sometimes," the singer says that it "took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, 'Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn't wanna do something, I can't make her do it.' "

Knowles, who's usually mum about boyfriend Jay-Z, also comments about their relationship, saying, "It's very easy. He's so quick. And we respect each other. If I have any suggestions he respects it. If he has any suggestions, I respect it. It's just, I don't know, easy. And fun."

Knowles will release B'day – her first solo album since her multi-platinum 2003 solo debut, Dangerously In Love – on her 25th birthday, Sept. 4. The new album's first single, "Deja Vu," features Jay-Z.
