Mary Poppins, a musical based on a series of children's books of the same name celebrated its fourth anniversary on Broadway on November 16 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Mary Poppins reveals the story of the magical powers of the Mary Poppins when she accepts to work as children’s Nanny and her friendship with his far away friend Bert who also acts as a narrator for the stage musical. Michelle Kelly, who used to play the role of nanny till 29 October 2005 when she quit the musical and Gavin Lee, who previously portrayed the role of Bert as the original Broadway cast are now again back as the original Nanny and Bert almost after 6 years. Micelle has won the 2005 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical and Bret has won the Outstanding Broadway Debut at the 63rd annual Theatre World Awards. Both stars earned the honor of playing as Bert and Mary Poppins in the “America Celebrates July 4” at Fords Theatre on June 6, 2010 in front of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

 

Mary Poppins, who debuted 6 years back, has managed to won many awards like Best New Musical, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Theatre Choreographer among others. The Mary Poppins musical is all set to begin its national tour at the Benedum Center, Downtown from Jan. 5, 2011 through Jan. 23, 2011. The Broadway production will be co-produced by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh; it features the music and lyrics of Academy Award-winner Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and also new songs, music and lyrics created by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

 

Mary Poppins Musical will also begin performances at the Detroit Opera House on Thursday, December 16, 2010 through Sunday, January 2, 2011. The first official opening performance will be played on Friday, December 17 at 7:30pm. The Mary Poppins North American tour includes performances on Nov.4-Nov.21 in East Lansing, Nov.26-Dec.12 in Des Moines, Jan.5- Jan.23, 2011 in Pittsburgh, Jan.27 – Feb.13, 2011 in Omaha, Feb.17-Mar.20, 2011 in Boston, Mar.23-Apr.17, 2011 in Philadelphia flowed by other performances in Columbus, Seattle, Sacramento, Portland and Costa Mesa. The three-hour production will begin performances at the Wharton Center for the Performing arts for 21 shows from Nov. 4-Nov. 21.
