Mike Tyson Has Sympathy for Kobe Bryanthollywood.comFormer heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, who was convicted of rape in 1992 and served three years in prison, says he sympathizes with basketball star Kobe Bryant. The 24-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard has been charged with a Class 3 sexual assault, the equivalent of rape under Colorado law, stemming from allegations made by a 19-year-old Colorado woman who worked at a resort where he was staying in June. "I've been in an ordeal like him, and I know how easy it is for a young man to be a big shot, a big star in America's eyes and then get in another arena and he's nobody," Tyson said in an interview on Access Hollywood . "That means the judicial arena." Tyson, 37, said he wished Bryant "the best" and advised the NBA star to stay close to his family.

He is quoted by Britain's Zoo magazine as saying: "I just talked to a

They said they were interested in getting me involved in the adult film

Meanwhile, American boxing journalist Pedro Fernandez believes Tyson, who

Mike Tyson may soon be taking his oversized talent into another arena. The former Heavyweight champ, who has fallen on hard times lately in the ring, is reportedly in talks with representatives of the porn star, Jennifer Jameson, to co-star in an upcoming X-rated film. The Daily News reports, "The free-spending pugilist, who was pummeled recently by the tax man, says he told Jameson's people, 'I need the money up front.' Does he have what it takes to make it big? According to Zoo magazine's Pedro Fernandez, the answer is yes, and then some. Fernandez writes, "according to court documentation from Tyson's rape trial, his member is at least 14 inches long. If Tyson brings out some of the ferocity that made him a champion, he could definitely become a successful porn star"... -_-

Tyson: "My Life Has Been a Waste"

Posted Sep 3rd 2006 6:15AM by TMZ Staff

Filed under: Train Wrecks, Wacky and Weird

Mike Tyson is still the main event in Las Vegas, even though he isn't licensed to fight there. The former heavyweight champion has set up shop (in this case, it's a ring) in the middle in the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood hotel, for an boxing exhibition called "Tyson Training Camp." Not quite the $35 million nights he was used to in the twilight of his career.

In between ferocious left hooks, Tyson tells TMZ he's recently spoken with Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, who is rumored to play The Dynamite Kid in a big screen version of his life. Tyson says he doesn't understand why Foxx would be interested in portraying the embattled star.

"i don't ... see myself in the perspective that everyone else seems. I think the 40 years of my life have been a waste."

Here at TMZ, we believe anyone who could have spawned a Nintendo boxing game as cool as Mike Tyson's Punch Out is not a waste, no matter how far he may have fallen.

"I'm looking to make a buck"

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Some crowded around the ring with cell phone cameras in hand. Others sat at a bar not 20 feet away drinking beer. Still others ignored it all and smoked cigarettes and played slot machines.

Mike Tyson used to put on displays. On this day, he was just on display.

Down the street, tourists watched lions and dolphins between breaks at the slot machines. In the Aladdin hotel, they didn't need to move from their seats at the bar to see another curiosity in a makeshift ring.

The former baddest man on the planet has been reduced to this -- just another freak show on the Las Vegas Strip.

The signs said he was in training, and that was enough to lure a few hundred people to the makeshift ring set up just outside the casino's buffet restaurant. Training for what was a question better left unanswered.

Tyson once made $35 million for one fight and more than $300 million in his career before blowing it all. Now he's a casino sideshow, trying to make a few bucks the only way he knows how in a sport he no longer can stand.

"I truly hate fighting," Tyson said. "I've got a bad taste in my mouth."

On this day, Tyson is contrite, seemingly embarrassed his life has been reduced to this. He says he's uncomfortable going out in front of people masquerading as the fighter he once was when he knows it's all really a charade.

But he owes his creditors millions, needs the money desperately and took up the casino on its offer to make some.

So he gets into the ring to throw a few punches at the mitts of trainer Jeff Fenech as tourists take pictures.

"I'm looking to make a buck like anyone else," says Tyson.

There's talk of a series of three-round exhibition fights to earn that buck. It's a time-honored tradition in boxing, where no one gets hurt and the former champ who is down on his luck gets a small taste of the money he used to make.

Tyson is 40, but he's an old 40. Look past the bizarre tattoo that stretches across the left side of his face, and there's a weariness on his face that comes with years of hard fighting and even harder living.

It's been 20 years since Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion ever by knocking out Trevor Berbick. I remember watching him that night and later seeing him walk around the Las Vegas Hilton with the WBC title belt wrapped proudly around his waist.

His world quickly became filled with riches, women and fame in such abundance that the one-time street tough from New York had no chance of handling it all. He went to prison for rape only to come out bigger than ever, but his new life spiraled out of control almost as quickly.

He doesn't want anybody's sympathy, isn't even sure why they still care. They do, though, because they remember what he once was.

"I had a great life. I had 20 lives. No way should they be sympathetic to me," Tyson said. "Unfortunately I'm not a wealthy person."

He still manages to drive a BMW, though he's quick to say that in the day he would drive Ferraris and Bentleys. The problem was he would buy several and give them away to the hangers-on that were always around in his prime but were nowhere to be seen on this day.

He owned mansions, too, and not just one. When you're heavyweight champion of the world, you think the money will never stop flowing.

"I blank all that out of my mind," Tyson said. "If I think or dwell on that I can't be the person I want to be in life."

Which is?

"A simple guy."

Unfortunately, nothing will ever be simple for Tyson. He's always been tormented by demons he's been either unable or unwilling to control, and he seems as confused over his future as he was in his past.

He was embarrassed by his knockout loss to an Irish stiff named Kevin McBride the last time he got into the ring 14 months ago, and vows never to fight for real again. But here he is training next to a bank of slot machines trying to get in some kind of shape so he can make a few bucks off of his name.

It's sad, but that's the way it is. When I look at Tyson it's all I can do not to picture him ending up like Joe Louis, who worked as a casino greeter and often was brought out drooling in his wheelchair to ringside so high rollers could say they saw the Brown Bomber.

People loved Louis. For some reason, they're still fascinated with Tyson.

"People truly believe and support me," he said. "I realized that over time. I don't know if it's for sympathetic reasons or just something that they can relate to me in life."

Tyson seems happy to be talking about it, happy somebody still cares. He doesn't really want to be doing this, but the offer of a free hotel suite and some cash brought him up from Phoenix, where he spends most of his time.

Now it's showtime, time to walk into the casino and go to work.

"Life," he says, "has changed so much."

Mike Tyson arrested in Arizona on DUI, drug possession charges

December 29, 2006

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Mike Tyson was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of cocaine after police stopped him leaving a Scottsdale nightclub early Friday.

Sgt. Larry Hall said the heavyweight boxer was stopped after his car almost struck a sheriff's vehicle while leaving the club at about 1:45 a.m.

"He showed signs of impairment, and voluntarily submitted to field sobriety tests," said Hall, a member of the Buckeye Police Department who was working in the area as part of a holiday DUI task force.

Hall said Tyson was placed under arrest after "showing more signs of impairment" during the field sobriety tests.

Police subsequently searched Tyson and found cocaine on him and in his car.

No one else was with Tyson at the time, Hall said.

Tyson was booked at a Maricopa County sheriff's jail, and he was expected to have an initial appearance before a judge later Friday to determine bail, Hall said.

Mike Tyson’s daughter, Michael, has one major regret about being the child of a heavyweight champion - she's inherited his family's obesity problem. The teenager has battled weight issues for years and insists her famous dad, who weighed in at 200 pounds when he was 13, would be huge if he wasn't so obsessed with staying in shape. She says, "My father's side, a lot of them, so I heard, are obese, like his sisters, his mother. "I believe if he wasn't a heavyweight champion, if he wasn't constantly working out or watching what he ate, he would be obese." The 15 year old is now hoping to use her heavy problem to her advantage, designing a clothing line for plus-size girls.

Former boxing champ Mike Tyson has checked into the same exclusive rehab facility where Lindsay Lohan is currently being treated for drug and alcohol addiction. The 40-year-old reportedly checked himself into the "Wonderland Center," this past weekend in the Hollywood Hills.

Tyson was arrested last year in Arizona on suspicion of drink driving and felony drug possession after he nearly crashed into a police vehicle shortly after leaving a nightclub. He admitted to an officer at the time of his arrest that he was a drug addict and had a problem. According to sources, Tyson has already started attending outpatient "meetings" around Los Angeles, which is allowed during his treatment at the facility. Last April, the former heavyweight champ checked into the posh Meadows rehab clinic in Arizona, but lasted just five days at the strict treatment center.

Tyson in rehab with 'various addictions'

Ex-champ awaits trial on drug charges, faces possible 7 1/2-year sentence

The 40-year-old Mike Tyson pleaded not guilty on Jan. 22 in Maricopa County Superior Court to felony drug possession and paraphernalia possession counts and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs.

PHOENIX - Mike Tyson has checked himself into an inpatient treatment program for “various addictions” while awaiting trial on drug charges, his lawyer said Wednesday.

“He needed to get involved in something that would help him with his addiction,” attorney David Chesnoff said. Chesnoff wouldn’t describe Tyson’s addictions, but police said the former heavyweight champion told officers that he used cocaine frequently.

Chesnoff said Tyson checked himself into an undisclosed facility shortly after appearing in a Phoenix courtroom.

The 40-year-old Tyson pleaded not guilty on Jan. 22 in Maricopa County Superior Court to felony drug possession and paraphernalia possession counts and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Feb. 26.

Chesnoff said he’d prefer that Tyson stay in the treatment facility, but “if he’s required to be in court and he doesn’t get excused, he’ll be in court.”

County Attorney Andrew Thomas has said Tyson has run out of second chances, and prosecutors will pursue prison time. If convicted on all four drug charges, Tyson could be imprisoned as much as 7½ years. A spokesman for Thomas did not return calls Wednesday.

Tyson previously was convicted of rape in Indiana in 1992 and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in Maryland in 1999.

Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history in 1986 when, at age 20, he knocked out Trevor Berbick.

Four years later, Tyson was knocked out by James “Buster” Douglas. By 1997, Tyson’s reputation sank to a career low when he bit Evander Holyfield’s ear during a fight.

On Dec. 29, police arrested Tyson in Scottsdale after his BMW was allegedly spotted weaving through traffic, almost hitting a police SUV. When officers stopped him, police said Tyson was trying to wipe a white powder off the console of his car.

Tyson had bags of cocaine in his back pocket and another bag in a pack of cigarettes, according to court documents.

Police said Tyson told officers he uses cocaine “any time he can get his hands on it.”

MIKE TYSON CAN'T DANCE

Mike Tyson is thrilled because he's getting his own reality show. He has some very important people behind this and they're tweaking concepts to figure out to best one for Mike.

They might do a show about finding him a wife or a show about him struggling with sobriety.

One thing it WON'T be about is boxing - viewers haven't embraced reality boxing shows.

Mike is particularly happy about his new series because he had been hoping to appear on Dancing with the Stars but was turned DOWN because of his prison record.

Trial date set for former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson

AP

MESA, Ariz. (AP) --

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson appeared in court Thursday and learned he will go on trial Aug. 20 on charges of drug possession and driving under the influence of drugs.

Tyson was fresh out of a California rehabilitation facility and said very little during the five-minute proceeding.

"Yes, ma'am" were his only words, uttered after Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens asked if he agreed to the trial date, which was pushed back 30 days at his attorneys' request.

Tyson did not speak outside the courtroom, where reporters peppered him with questions and followed him to a Cadillac Escalade.

"We're very pleased with Mike's progress in treatment," said Richard Schonfeld, one of Tyson's lawyers. "He's 72 days sober. We're proud of him."

Tyson was arrested Dec. 29 in Scottsdale. A resident of the wealthy Phoenix suburb of Paradise Valley, the 40-year-old was pulled over after leaving a nightclub. An officer found bags of cocaine in his back pocket and another in a pack of cigarettes in his car, according to court records.

Tyson pleaded not guilty on Jan. 22 in Maricopa County Superior Court to felony drug possession and paraphernalia possession counts and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs.

County Attorney Andrew Thomas has said Tyson has run out of second chances, and prosecutors will pursue prison time. If convicted on all four charges, Tyson could be imprisoned as long as 7 1/2 years.

Tyson's next pretrial hearing is set for May 24, but he will be allowed to appear by telephone because his lawyers don't want to interrupt his treatment, Schonfeld said.

Stephens pushed Tyson's trial date back by a month to August because his attorneys said they hadn't seen all the state's evidence in the case.

Tyson was convicted of rape in Indiana in 1992 and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in Maryland in 1999.

Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at 20 in 1986, when he knocked out Trevor Berbick. Four years later, he was knocked out by James "Buster" Douglas. By 1997, Tyson's career hit a low point when he bit Evander Holyfield's ear during a fight.

Mike Tyson to appear in Bollywood video

MUMBAI, India

A diamond heist, a Bollywood dance routine and Mike Tyson make an unlikely combination.

But the former heavyweight boxing champion is set to groove to Indian pop music in a promotional video for "Fool and Final," an upcoming Bollywood comedy, the film's media consultant said Friday.

Tyson, 40, will shoot the promo in India, said N. Chattani, who is in charge of publicity for the movie's producer, Firoze Nadiadwala.

"It's finalized," Chattani said. "Tyson will be shooting the music promo with the entire cast."

Why Tyson? Aside from instant publicity, action hero Sunny Deol stars as a boxer in the film, directed by Ahmed Khan.

"The movie is a laugh riot, and the filmmakers thought Tyson would be great in the promo," Chattani said.

In 1986, a 20-year-old Tyson became the youngest heavyweight boxing champion in history. He was convicted of rape in Indiana in 1992 and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in Maryland in 1999.

By 1997, Tyson's career hit a low point when he bit Evander Holyfield's ear during a fight.

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is "humbled" Hollywood producers are making a movie based on his life.

The boxer - who became the youngest heavyweight champion when he won the title aged 20 in 1986 - has contributed more than 30 hours of interviews for the project. Tyson says, "I will, to the best of my abilities, give a truthful account of myself." The film, titled "Tyson", will be directed by James Toback, who has known the fighter since 1985.

Toback says, "The point is not to polish his image or make a cinematic apology, but rather to get a first-hand look at a very complex and epic story.

"He was honest about all the things that have highlighted his life, from the bitter divorce, the ear-biting, prison, to his becoming a sex addict. He is self-aware, smart and a totally fractured personality, and he made himself completely vulnerable." Toback adds the film, due out later this year (07), would not "gloss over" incidents such as Tyson's rape conviction or the ear-biting of rival Evander Holyfield in 1997.

Mike Tyson gets day in jail for cocaine, DUI

Posted Image

MESA, Arizona (AP) -- Mike Tyson was sentenced Monday to 24 hours in jail and three years' probation for drug possession and driving under the influence.

The former heavyweight champion had pleaded guilty in September to a single felony count of cocaine possession and a misdemeanor DUI count.

Tyson had faced a possible maximum sentence of four years and three months in prison. Prosecutor Shane Krausner had recommended one year in prison Monday, saying that Tyson was a multiple offender who previously had been convicted of a violent crime and that only now has he sought treatment for his drug addiction.

The charges stemmed from a traffic stop in Scottsdale last December.

Police pulled Tyson over after the boxer had spent the evening at Scottsdale's Pussycat Lounge. An officer said he saw Tyson wiping a white substance off the dashboard of his black BMW, and that his speech was slurred.

Authorities said they found bags of cocaine in Tyson's pocket and in his car.

Tyson told officers later that he used cocaine "whenever I can get my hands on it," and that he preferred to smoke it in Marlboro cigarettes with the tobacco pulled out, according to court documents. He also told police that he used marijuana that day and was taking the antidepressant Zoloft, the documents state.

Since his arrest, Tyson checked himself into an inpatient treatment program for what his lawyer called "various addictions."

Tyson attorney David Chesnoff said his client had taken 29 drug tests without a relapse since his arrest and that he's attended Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

Two of Tyson's former wives also wrote letters to the court asking for leniency.

Superior Court Judge Helene Abrams said Monday that she was impressed that Tyson was seeking therapy for his drug addiction. "You worked to address your addiction and self-destructive behavior," Abrams said.

County Attorney Andrew Thomas had said after the plea was entered that Tyson should be put in prison, noting that Tyson was convicted of rape in Indiana in 1992 and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in Maryland in 1999.

In 1986, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history when, at 20, he knocked out Trevor Berbick. He lost his title four years later when he was knocked out by James "Buster" Douglas. By 1997, Tyson's career hit a low point when he bit Evander Holyfield's ear during a fight.

Mike Tyson shows sweet side in documentary

When he's not pounding very large men to the ground, ex-fighter Mike Tyson speaks directly to the camera in James Toback's film "Tyson," and it's hard not to flinch.

More a testimony for the defense than a documentary, it's a sympathetic portrait of a complex man driven by an anger that still bubbles beneath the surface.

The former world champion's eyes, which were as devastating as his piston-fast fists in the boxing ring, reveal little, but his self-serving words tell everything. His candor appears sometimes unwitting, but the result is a powerful film that will appeal to sports fans and those who respond to the visceral clamor of the fight world.

Using split screens, overdubs and a mixture of interior closeups and exterior long shots, Toback allows the boxer to portray himself as a gentle soul born on mean streets where constant bullying forced him to employ his brute strength to survive. A broken home, crime, correction facilities and finally the boxing ring -- it's a familiar tale.

Not so familiar were the fighter's extraordinary dedication, steeped in the lessons of the great champions, and his unflinching impulse to drive toward and destroy his opponent. Toback shows nearly all of Tyson's knockouts and tracks his rise to the big titles, big money and world fame, and then the falls from grace, including failed marriages, a spell in prison on a rape conviction and ultimately the loss of his titles and most of his money.

In every circumstance in his life, Tyson believes himself to be the innocent party. He became a ferocious fighter to avoid being humiliated. His marriage broke down because they were both kids. His rape charge was "false" and the victim was "a wretched swine of a woman." A big-time boxing promoter was "a slimy reptilian motherer." He bit opponent Evander Holyfield's ear off because the man kept head-butting him and made him insane in the ring.

But Tyson says he made sure his six kids got some of all that money; he found Islam in prison; and he's been through rehabilitation. Now, he says, his anger is directed only toward himself. "I'm not an animal anymore," he says in his high-pitched lisp staring at the camera through a dramatic Maori facial tattoo.

For some reason, Toback never mentions Tyson's voice, not that you can blame him.

:( How horrible

Tyson's daughter, 4, dies day after accident

Updated: May 26, 2009, 7:09 PM EST PHOENIX (AP) - Police say the 4-year-old daughter of boxer Mike Tyson has died a day after her neck accidentally was caught in a treadmill cord while she was playing at home.

Mike Tyson left Las Vegas for Phoenix upon hearing of his daughter's accident. Phoenix police spokesman Andy Hill said Exodus Tyson was pronounced dead in a hospital just before noon on Tuesday. Police have said an investigation showed it was a "tragic accident."

Police say the girl was playing on the treadmill on Monday when her head apparently slipped inside a cord hanging under the console. Exodus' 7-year-old brother found her and alerted his mother.

"Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there's a cord that hangs under the console — it's kind of a loop," police Sgt. Andy Hill said. "Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it."

Former heavyweight champion Tyson was in Las Vegas at the time of the accident and flew to Phoenix on Monday.

Responding officers and firefighters performed CPR on Exodus as they rushed her to a nearby hospital.

Tyson spokeswoman Cynthia Schwartz said the family had not arranged a funeral yet and would release a statement later.
