Harrison Ford (Hans Solo weds...)

Recommended Posts

They say "third time lucky"... and Calista Flockhart must be hoping that's true after becoming Mrs Harrison Ford number three.

The 45-year-old Ally McBeal actress finally married the Indiana Jones star this week, eight years after they first met at an awards ceremony.

The movie legend's first marriage, to his college sweetheart Mary Marquardt, ended in 1979 then he was hit with a £100million divorce settlement when he divorced his second wife, ET screenwriter Melissa Mathison, in 2004. But Harrison, 67, is not the only loved-up celebrity to back optimism over experience.

I asked this in a thread ages ago, but I'm always curious what makes long-term cohabiting couples actually get married. Calista & Harrison have been together 8 years, she had already adopted her son before they started dating - so why marriage now? Things that make me go Hmmmm.......But yes, I hope they're happy & crusty together (Ted says they both can be crusty. Or crotchety. Or some other similar term - and I believe it)

I've known several couples that got married after being together for 10+ years. If no kids are involved, it usually comes down to legal rights - but not as in $$. More like "if they get hit by a bus, I should be able to make medical decisions on their behalf". You can obviously get signed paperwork to give them that power, but if you're married it's just automatic - no waiting around for the paperwork to show up (sometimes show up too late)...

Also when kids are involved, they push for their parents to marry.... big time.

In this case, I'm betting it's for the kid. Did Ford adopt the kid? If not, he's helped raise this kid and I bet he wants a say in it if something happens to Calista.

I hope they're happy too but the skeptic in me wonders if this is one of those "let's get married to save the relationship" situations. Nothing really points to it but not knowing them personally, or any possible motivations, it does make me wonder. Again, I hope that it's not the case.

Harrison Ford in Critical Condition After Plane Crash

Harrison Ford is in critical condition after a small plane he was piloting crashed landed at an L.A. golf course.

The vintage yellow fighter plane crashed at about 2:24 p.m. at Penmar Golf Course, not far from the Santa Monica airport, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott told CBSon Thursday.

Ford, 72, was the only person on board the craft, and the LAFD confirmed on Twitter that he had been taken to a hospital in critical condition.

"I arrived after Mr. Ford had been transported but I know he sustained a head injury and there were two doctors who had been at the golf course who first attended to Mr. Ford and the Santa Monica Fire Dept. was the first to arrive," Santa Monica City Commissioner Phil Brock told PEOPLE. "That's all the information I have."

Howard Tabe, an employee at the Penmar Golf Course, told NBC News, "There was blood all over his face ... Two very fine doctors were treating him, taking good care of him. I helped put a blanket under his hip."

This is not the first time Ford, an experienced pilot, has been in a plane crash. His six-passenger plane took a hard landing in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the summer of 2000, but the actor was not hurt. Ford also crash-landed a helicopter in October 1999 while he was practicing emergency landings with a flight instructor.

Story developing.

TMZ Updates:

5:00 PM PT -- Harrison's son Ben just tweeted, "At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is." :kung-fu-panda:

4:30 PM PT -- We've obtained intense audio of Harrison talking to the Santa Monica Airport control tower just moments after he'd taken off. Listen ... you hear him report engine failure and request an emergency return to the airport.

Interesting how they are using them for pr for the newest movie coming out next month. I was too lazy to look, but I don't think either of them are in the new movie.

But Carrie Fisher has a new book out she's promoting - I think that's more the point than the new movie (the last Star Wars people aren't even in the new movie - it's really tangential I think - but I haven't even seen the last new Star Wars, so.....)

That photo is hot. 19yr old Fisher with 33 yr old Ford - sounds like my college dating career (never anyone married though!!)

Ah, there it is...didn't know that, but I do agree it's PR for that instead.

Didn't want to clog up the blind item with this - scary video of Harrison Ford's latest aviation incident. And a list of other incidents. Of course, he's done a lot of good things too, rescuing hikers etc. But at some point, he might need to consider stopping flying.....

Yikes. So he passed over the white airplane in that video (not the blue airplane further in the background that looks like he barely missed swiping it). But still.

Anyone catch Harrison on the Graham Norton show?? I know they tried to make it seems like he was being a little forgetful on purpose as a joke, but sometimes I got the impression it wasn't always part of the bit. :(

I love graham Norton. I think that the interviews he & Gosling have been doing together are fairly "scripted" in that they're each known for being....reticent? in interviews. But the humor they have together has been getting a lot of good press, so I'm sure they've been encouraged to keep it up.

And yeah, Ford is a little more "not there" than he needs to be to play that game.
