TONGUES WAG OVER AGUILERA

Page Six

WHAT'S the real reason Christina Aguilera canceled her tour? The songbird shocked her fans when she pulled out of her three-month tour, citing strained vocal cords. The 28-city tour was supposed to start May 13, but according to a press release, Aguilera's doctors advised her to rest her voice, which had been strained during rehearsals. But music industry insiders aren't buying it. "People strain their vocal chords all the time," one insider said. "There are treatments they give, and people usually take a week or two off, but never have they canceled a three-month tour." The real culprit, the insider notes, is "slow ticket sales. Her shows were only selling at 40 to 60 percent capacity. She needs a hit album to reboost her fan base." Her most devoted fans will be hurt the most, having gone through ticket brokers and paid a premium for the best seats. They'll only be refunded the face value of the tickets. Insiders say Aguilera's management was unrealistic. Even teamed with Justin Timberlake, the Justified & Stripped tour didn't net many sellouts. "How could they think she could sell enough at amphitheaters with a newcomer like Chingy as a opener?" Aguilera's rep said: "Not true."

popbitch.com >> Air on a g string << Christina's Dirrty gifts Christina Aguilera's summer tour might be back on, albeit scaled down somewhat. This will be good news for the fan club members who originally paid $250 extra for special seats. As part of the deal they got a goodie bag including g string, jewellery and stripper-style nipple pasties. The average age of Christina's fan-club members, and recipients of these raunchy giftbags? Er... 13.

Christina Aguilera weds

20/11/2005 - 10:35:41

Christina Aguilera has found out what a girl wants, and now she's married

him.

The 24-year-old pop singer tied the knot with music executive Jordan Bratman

in a Saturday evening ceremony at Staglin Family Vineyard in northern

California's Napa Valley, Us Weekly reported on its web site.

Sources told the magazine that Aguilera, her hair decorated in jewels and

pulled back in a bun topped by white flowers, walked down the aisle in a

Christian Lacroix gown. The couple exchanged rings in front of about 130

guests.

Aguilera and Bratman arrived in Napa Valley on Wednesday to kick off wedding

festivities, with a Japanese-themed rehearsal dinner Friday night at the

Auberge Du Soleil resort, Us Weekly reported.

Bratman, 28, proposed to Aguilera in February while on vacation in Carmel,

Calif. Their hotel room was filled with rose petals, balloons and gift

boxes.

"When I got to the last box, there was a ring in it," Aguilera told People

magazine. "He got down on one knee and said 'Will you do me the honour of

being my wife?' I've been floating ever since."

Deconstructing Christina Aguilera

PopWatch Blog

Overheard at PopWatch HQ this afternoon:

writer1: what should we write to commemorate today's release of Back to Basics? how about something like: ''Xtina, congrats on escaping skank-dom!''

writer2: who says she isn't a skank anymore? don't make her come to the 29th floor and prove it!

writer1: got a better angle?

writer2: i haven't heard the new xtina, alas. so it's quite possible she's not a skank. but I still think there's a skank within. or i hope there is!

writer1: that sounds like a good title for a post-feminist self-help book: the skank within"

writer2: LOL. and she had that song "the voice within"

writer1: i like that side of her too, but what i really like about her, as opposed to all the other pop tarts she came of age with, is that she can actually, you know, SING

writer2: yeah, that's a pretty novel hook for a singer nowadays

writer1: but she's also the xtina who not too long ago sang the words "What to do when the music starts to drop/that's when we take it to the parking lot/And I bet you somebody's gonna call the cops"

writer2: that's skank!

writer1: the woman contains multitudes

writer2: ha!

writer1: i smell a doctoral dissertation: ''Genre in a Bottle: Dialectic and Discourse in the Works of Christina Aguilera''

writer2: sign me up

writer1: extra credit for defending your dissertation wearing a red pleather bustier

writer2: or a pair of chaps with your alter ego's name spelled across the backside of your underpants

writer1: and double extra credit if you're a guy

Has anyone bought the cd yet (or downloaded it)? I might get it this weekend if I remember.

Yes and it is off the chain, gospel, blues. R&B and Jazz!
Not to be a bitch, but that sounds horrible to me- I don't like any of those genres to be honest - especially jazz -_- . Hopefully there are a few good pop songs? I'll get it anyway, I need to expand my taste in music, lol.

Christina "Back" Atop Chart

by David Jenison

Aug 23, 2006, 4:25 PM PT

Going Back to Basics has paid off for Christina Aguilera.

The former teen queen, whose last album, 2002's Stripped, was kept out of the top slot by Eminem's dominant 8 Mile soundtrack, fended off five other Top 10 debuts this time around to open atop the Billboard 200.

For the week ended Sunday, Back to Basics pummeled the competition, selling 342,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the best first-week numbers this year for a female artist. Back to Basics also opened at number one in the U.K., Canada, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Ireland, among others.

The ex-Mouseketeer, whose new album puts modern twists on popular '20s and '30s sounds, landed a big radio hit with the Top 10 single "Ain't No Other Man." Since her number-one-selling 1999 self-titled debut, which scored three chart-topping tracks, Aguilera has only had one other solo single crack the Top 10, the Grammy-winning "Beautiful," which reached number two. She did top the charts, though, with the Moulin Rouge!-spawned hit "Lady Marmalade" (with Pink, Lil' Kim and Mya).

Though not a threat to Aguilera, Lyfe Jennings' The Phoenix sold more than 135,000 copies to take the two spot. The Buckeye State singer, whose disc did land atop Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, is currently lighting up the airwaves with "S.E.X.," his most successful radio single since last year's Top 40 hit "Must Be Nice."

California-born country singer Trace Adkins checked in at number three on the Billboard 200 with his new album, Dangerous Man, selling nearly 115,000 copies. The disc also topped the Hot Country Albums list, per Billboard. Adkins first broke onto the country music scene 10 years ago with the rookie hit Dreamin' Out Loud.

Meanwhile, the R&B pop foursome Cherish sold 91,000 copies of Unappreciated to open at four, while the Disney Channel followed up the success of High School Musical with another soundtrack, Cheetah Girls 2, debuting at five with 87,000 copies.

Eminem protégé Obie Trice landed the sixth and final Top 10 bow at eight, selling 74,000 copies of Second Round's on Me. The disc is predominantly produced by Eminem, who also appears on the track "There They Go."

With the slew of Top 10 bows, last week's chart champ, Rick Ross' Port of Miami, dropped down to seven on 79,000 copies. Rounding out the Top 10: Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 22 at six, the Step Up soundtrack at nine and Nickelback's All the Right Reasons in the 10 spot.

Elsewhere, the soundtrack to Snakes on a Plane slithered in at 43. The collection includes the single "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)," by Cobra Starship, a new group by Midtown singer Gabe Saporta. The single features guest appearances by Gym Class Heroes, Academy Is... and the Sounds' sexy singer Maja Ivarsson, who stole the show at last week's soundtrack release party at the Key Club in Hollywood. The disc also features a cut by Gnarls Barkley vocalist Cee-Lo.

Other noteworthy debuts included Cham's Ghetto Story at 53, Dave Navarro's new band the Panic Channel at 108 with (ONe), and Yanni's Live: The Concert Event at 124.

Christina Aguilera "knows" her first child will be a boy.

The 'Beautiful' singer - who married music executive Jordan Bratman last November - says, when the time comes for her to have children, she is sure her first-born will be a baby boy.

She said: "I have the prediction that I'm going to have a boy first. But I'd be overjoyed with either."

Christina also wants to have cooking lessons before she becomes a mum - so she can be a better parent.

The pop superstar is desperate to improve her domestic skills, because she wants to be able to cook her future children special treats.

She told Glamour Magazine: "I want to be able to have the same kind of relationship with my children that my mum had with me, and one of the things that I love coming home to is her cooking. I want to be able to do that for my kids."

FLYING HIGH

Christina Aguilera has yet to kick off her first tour to support Back to Basics, but she's already lined up her second one. The singer is heading out later this year to tour Europe, and when she gets back, she's got an arena tour in place for North America.

The 41-date North American jaunt kicks off February 20 in Houston, and wraps May 5 in Sunrise, Florida. Tickets for select stops in other markets — Dallas; San Diego; San Jose, California; St. Paul, Minnesota; Boston; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Columbus, Ohio; Rosemont, Illinois; Providence, Rhode Island; and Baltimore — go on sale Saturday.

Aguilera is already old friends with one of her opening acts, the Pussycat Dolls — she served as one of their guests when they were still performing as the Pussycat Doll Revue in Los Angeles. Danity Kane will also help warm up the shows, except for the Canadian dates, which the Diddy-built girl group will sit out.

Meanwhile, Aguilera will warm up for the U.S. and Canadian dates by performing her first European tour since 2003 starting November 17 (see "Christina Aguilera Reveals European Tour — Next Up, U.S. Clubs").

Still to come is a proposed U.S. club tour, in which Aguilera would play legendary blues and jazz joints. While her arena tour set list is likely to be heavy on the 20 tracks from her double album, she's planning something a little different for the club tour. "We're definitely going to mix it up, change it up, do some things that are not on the record, do some favorite classics of mine," Aguilera said. "We're really going to have fun and experiment with new ideas and interesting places to go to that have a throwback appeal and vibe."

Instead of working with the now defunct FansRule company, which is in the midst of arranging refunds for the singer's canceled 2004 tour (see "Two Years Later, Aguilera Fans Finally Getting Their Due: A Refund"), Aguilera has partnered again with I Love All Access to offer fans VIP ticket packages.

Christina Aguilera's Sexy Skinny-Dipping Sessions

Having a new baby at home hasn't extinguished the sparks between Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman!

The new parents are so determined to keep their two-year marriage red-hot that they've taken to skinny-dipping by moonlight. The couple, who welcomed son Max into the family on Jan. 12, can be heard loudly frolicking in the pool of their $11.5 million Beverly Hills mansion around midnight.

"They don't just splash around — they laugh, scream, swear and make sexy noises," says a source. "We're happy that they're happy, but we wish they'd keep it down a bit. There are a lot of old people who live around here, and they don't like noise after the dinner hour."

Still, the 27-year-old pop singer and her record producer husband, 30, are preferable to the house's former owner, Ozzy Osbourne, adds the source. Ozzy — who sold the Mediterranean villa after wrapping up his MTV show, The Osbournes — would blast "horrific, ear-splitting rock music."

Aguilera Leaves Richards Confused

KEITH RICHARDS was left bewildered when CHRISTINA AGUILERA joined THE ROLLING STONES to perform a song during their new MARTIN SCORSESE-directed concert film - because he had no idea who she was.

The guitarist looks a little puzzled on film as Aguilera takes the stage for a rendition of Live With Me in new rockumentary Shine A Light, and he freely admits he thought she was a fan invading the stage.

Richards says, "This girl came out and I was like, 'Who is that?' I had no idea. "I'm still not sure who that is. She can sing, though. And she looked good."

Christina Aguilera Sued For Fraud

Christina Aguilera is being sued for fraud by a man who seems to be a bit delusional. Michael Dunlap is suing Christina for loss property, loss of earning capacity and other damages including "humility, harassment, lies, and slander."

But here's the good part. Dunlap claims he is Xtina's father. He says he has 26 children through in-vitro, including Aguilera, Corey Feldman, Hayden Panettiere, Vanessa Williams, Hilary Duff and Matthew Broderick.

Christina Aguilera's Sweaty Shows

Christina Aguilera wore sweat pants onstage when she was pregnant.

The 27-year-old singer is famed for her outlandish and provocative clothes, but admits comfort was her priority when she was expecting son Max Liron - who she delivered in January.

She said: "The last time I was on tour I was a few months pregnant, and towards the end we were changing some of the costumes into sweat pants.

"I just needed the extra comfort and room!"

Christina, who is married to music executive Jordan Bratman, also doesn't plan to resurrect her super-sexy stage outfits.

The pop star insists her butt-baring chaps, which she wore in the video for hit single 'Dirrty', are staying in the wardrobe with the rest of her provocative clothes.

She said: "Every look I did was important at the time, but

I'm not going back. However, I don't believe in fashion faux pas. Fashion should be fun, lots of people take it way too seriously."

Christina Aguilera poised to earn even more

The Scoop

The new mom might not be busy with her singing career, but she’s still looking after her other business interests, namely her fragrance line. Life & Style reports that Aguilera’s third fragrance, Inspire, will hit stores this fall.

“Christina’s worked hard to get the scent exactly how she wants it,” an insider close to the singer told the magazine. Aguilera’s history with fragrances is a good one: the magazine reports that both of Aguilera’s previous perfumes, Xpose and Simply Christina, sold well internationally. “Because of the success of those perfumes, it was a no-brainer to create another,” the insider says. “She’ll be shooting ads for it soon.”
