Spoiler alert!!!!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought after SHADOW OF DEATH, I'd never experience such a rush of adrenaline, arousal, excitement & suspense..... :( BUT thank the gods!!!!! The writers proved me wrong. In the episode ,Mark of The Brotherhood, Crixus is healing VERY WELL. Spartacus has become an effective badass while still maintaining his cool queerly tender caring personality as well. Domina (AKA Xena AKA Lucy Lawless) is sooooooooo damn sexy, full of pent up feral frustration, barely hidden lethal rage and she's almost ready to pounce on..... that rat-bastard husband, Crixus, and that Callisto-look-a-like bitch Illythia(?). I hate that lying, cheating, stealing, conniving limping prick (what's his name?) who is still trying to jerk EVERYBODY over, especially Crixus and that cute golden-haired little brother figure for Spartacus.

Meanwhile, Dominus buys some new slaves/potential gladiators and they just seem to worship Spartacus with their eyes....... can you blame them? ;)

And the new guy from Gaul (where Crixus is from) is so WELL HUNG :jawdrop:

um, maybe this long chin comes close to the length

the intense full-frontal is so yummy I cannot describe it

And his member is instrumental to the plot.... :4biggrin:

He threatens both Crixus and Sparctacus as the ALPHA MALE, the Top Stallion, the Prized Champion and damn, does he give both men a run for their money!!!!!!!

And the final sex scene actually looks like somebody is f#%#ing for his life.

Television review: 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand' borders on camp

(you think?)

12:00 AM CST on Friday, January 22, 2010

By CARY DARLING / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

It's not your father's Spartacus. Nor, for that matter, your son's 300.

The puzzling new-generation Spartacus: Blood and Sand, a Starz network original series beginning today, takes the well-worn tale of the rebellious Roman-era slave and splatters it with flagons of blood, drunken-sailor language and enough sex and nudity to make Tiger Woods blush. Toto, we're not in I, Claudius, or even Rome, anymore.

The problem, though, is that this Spartacus is so over the top that it begs to be considered as total camp. The chiseled gladiators who are just one Bowflex and a protein shake away from modernity, the low-budget CGI effects, and the wavering accents from all over the English-speaking world – not to mention the presence of director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, The Evil Dead, Hercules, Xena: Warrior Princess) as executive producer and Xena herself, Lucy Lawless, as a scheming wife – help with that impression.

Yet it's played with a straight face with hardly a nudge or a wink.

 :o  :D

(I gotta admit; it just knocks the wind out of me to watch these actors/actresses be so, OPEN and EXPOSED and RAW. These characters fight & f%#k & curse & kill with such fervor. I can't believe it. Some prudes have protested that this show should be rated "X". And I kind of understand. This show is pornographic, scandalous, salacious, sinful, delicious, naughty, decadent hypnotic entertainment.)

And the violence – even though done in a heavily stylized, obviously fake, video-game fashion – is not for the squeamish.

Australian newcomer Andy Whitfield is Spartacus, a warrior from Thrace (a region that's now part of Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria) who's enslaved by duplicitous Roman commander Glaber (Craig Parker), separated from his loving wife, Sura (Erin Cummings), and sent to fight in gladiatorial games in the Italian town of Capua.

Against all odds, Spartacus survives a grueling, four-on-one bout and is handed over to a struggling gladiatorial school run by Batiatus (John Hannah, The Mummy and Four Weddings and a Funeral) and his far-from-faithful wife, Lucretia (Lawless), who's having a fling with hunky gladiator and Spartacus nemesis Crixus (Manu Bennett). What keeps Spartacus going is the struggle to be reunited with his wife who also has been sold into slavery.

The speaking and acting styles vary enough to be distracting. Shot in New Zealand, Spartacus veers wildly among English, American, Australian and New Zealander accents. Meanwhile, Whitfield, though he can handle the physical demands, doesn't radiate the presence to be Spartacus. Supporting players, such as Hannah, bring some sense of well-honed chops to the production.

It's hard to say at whom Spartacus is aimed. Fans of the more staid I, Claudius and Rome may be put off by the cartoonish, ultimate-fighting brutality and lack of sophistication. Fans of 300 might be put off by the undercurrent of homoeroticism, which has always been in gladiator movies, being made VERY explicit.

But there's no denying Spartacus' eye-catching watchability. Like the gladiator games it invokes, this sword-and-scandal comic book is never boring. Perhaps like some who enjoyed those games but had second thoughts once the bloodlust was sated, viewers might feel just a little bit guilty afterward. :smileapprove:

I've been watching this every week-I like it but wonder if it will last. To say it's "lusty" would be an understatement, there's certainly plenty of all kinds of sex going on everywhere.

Sad News: Star of Spartacus has disease.

Thousands of fans send wishes & letters of support. :inlove:

Spartacus star in cancer scare

Mar 14 2010 by Rachel Mainwaring, Wales On Sunday

Add a commentRecommend FILMING of a controversial swords-and-sandals television drama that has rocked America has been delayed after the leading Welsh actor was diagnosed with cancer.

Andy Whitfield, from Amlwch, Anglesey, who plays the title role in Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Production on the second series has been delayed so the actor can begin treatment immediately.

US cable network Starz, which airs the programme, said the cancer was discovered during a routine checkup as the 38-year-old prepared to begin shooting of the action-adventure series, which is filmed in New Zealand.

According to the network, doctors said the cancer was detected in its early stages and was “very treatable”.

In a statement, the actor said: “I’m receiving excellent care, and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me.”

Starz president Chris Albrecht said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy.

“His health, of course, is our primary concern. He has our complete support during this difficult time.”

Spartacus has conquered America despite its stark sex and violence.

Set during the time of the Roman Empire, the TV series features full-frontal nudity, extreme violence and explicit scenes of orgies.

At the centre is the popular Scottish actor John Hannah, star of Four Weddings And A Funeral and Sliding Doors, who plays Batiatus to Welshman Andy Whitfield’s Spartacus in a drama based only loosely on the historical character and depicting violent gladiator scenes.

It pulled in more than a million viewers in the US and has already been snapped up by Australian, Canadian and Dutch networks

The show is described the makers as “graphic and visceral” and a mixture of “live action, graphic novel effects and brutal battle sequences”.

As A RESULT:

2nd season of production of the show is delayed until the actor can get better. So tape the 1st season ASAP cause there might not be another one. Spartacus is already legendary, worldwide!

TV's Spartacus: Blood and Sand star Andy Whitfield will not be returning to the Starz series for a second season, due to a recurrence of cancer that will require aggressive treatment, the network has announced.

"It's with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus and all the wonderful people involved," Whitfield, 36, said in a statement. "It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey."

In March of this year it was reported that Whitfield, born in Wales and a resident of Australia, had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

I would have been happy if STARZ would have just allowed Spartacus to die or just disappear, then let the show be about Crixus or the Gladiator trainer or someone else but NOT REPLACE THE LEAD!!!!!!!!!

:angry3:  :tantrum:

AWFUL IDEA! :poke:

Kappy, this was a very entertaining show. I watched it every week and really enjoyed it. Sadly, Andy Whitfield (who played Spartacus) was diagnosed early in the year with cancer, was treated and appeared to be in remission, but then experienced an aggressive relapse. He has had to bow out of the series in order to have treatment. I'm not sure how this will all play out but I do know they were casting to replace him. Hopefully, Andy responds to treatment and recovers. Don't know how the show will be without him, but I'll tune in to check it out.

Breaking: Liam McIntyre Is the New Spartacus

tvline.com

After an exhaustive search, Starz has officially tapped Aussie actor Liam McIntyre (HBO’s The Pacific) to replace the ailing Andy Whitfield as the new star of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

The news comes a week after TVLine reported that McIntyre was the odds-on favorite to score the plum role.

“Since no one can really replace Andy, we realized that we should instead find an actor who can truly lead Spartacus forward,” said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement. “It was important to us to have Andy endorse the idea of recasting this part, which he did in the same heroic manner that he’s dealt with his whole ordeal. And that, coupled with our fortune in finding a young actor with the gladiator credentials and the acting ability of Liam, makes it easier for us to keep this hit franchise going.”

In the release put out by Starz, the network referred to the “grueling and rigorous audition process” that McIntyre went through to claim the title role — and they’re not exaggerating. According to sources, McIntyre — whose slight build initially led execs to rule him out as Sparty — underwent two-plus months of boot camp to bulk up for the part.

In September, news broke that Whitfield was dropping out of Spartacus‘ second season to undergo treatment for a recurrence of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Starz debated whether to end the series or embark on the daunting task of recasting the lead. With Whitfield’s blessing in hand, the network ultimately decided the show must go on.

McIntyre assumes the role at the start of the show’s second season, which begins shooting later this spring.

In the meantime, fans can get their Sparty fix with Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, a six-part prequel debuting this Friday at 10 pm/ET.

Hi Princess-

The first series was Spartacus: Blood and Sand. This is the series that the late Andy Whitfield played the lead character Spartacus. The second series was Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. Spartacus did not appear in that series. It's already aired so what you are seeing would be reruns. The third series will be Spartacus: Vengeance, and will star Liam McIntyre in the role of Spartacus. The third series will air in 2012.
