CBS Fall 2015-2016 Schedule: What's New, What's Returning, and What Night?

Entertainment May. 13, 2015 AT 5:50PM By Rachel McRady

Goodbye CSI, hello newbies! On Wednesday, May 13, CBS announced its fall lineup, including the returning series, new shows, and the midseason programming we can expect.

To wrap up CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’s 15-season legacy, CBS will air a special two-hour series finale on Sunday night this coming fall. It will then be replaced by the spinoff series CBS: Cyber.

Fan-favorite comedies The Big Bang Theory and Mom will be returning, as will hit dramas The Good Wife, Elementary, and Madam Secretary. To help you navigate the crowded fall TV schedule and to learn more about the latest programming, Us Weekly made an easy-to-access guide.

New Fall 2015 Shows:

Code Black: Based on the award-winning documentary by Ryan McGarry, Code Black is a heart-pounding medical drama that takes place in the busiest, most notorious ER in the nation, where the staggering influx of patients can outweigh the limited resources available to the extraordinary doctors and nurses whose job is to treat them all – creating a condition known as Code Black.

Limitless: Based on the feature film, the show is a fast-paced drama about Brian Finch, who discovers the brain-boosting power of the mysterious drug NZT and is coerced by the FBI into using his extraordinary cognitive abilities to solve complex cases for them. Bonus Points: Bradley Cooper will have a recurring role as Senator Edward Mora after appearing as the lead in the film.

Supergirl: An action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Angel From Hell: A single-camera comedy about Amy (Jane Lynch), a colorful, brassy woman who insinuates herself into Allison’s (Maggie Lawson) organized and seemingly perfect life, claiming to be her “guardian angel.” Allison is an intense, driven doctor who is sure that Amy is just an inebriated, outspoken nut, until every one of her warnings proves true.

Life in Pieces: A single-camera comedy about one big happy family and their sometimes awkward, often hilarious and ultimately beautiful milestone moments as told by its various members. It stars Thomas Sadoski, Colin Hanks, Betsy Brandt, Dianne Wiest, and James Brolin.

Are there any new summer shows I should be aware of? ;-) Someone mentioned Aquarius in another thread - for whatever reason that doesn't look appealing to me. I keep hoping that Hollywood Game night is coming back - I like to watch that when I'm on the treadmill - I should look it up....

ETA - Hollywood Game Night, back July 7 :jumping1:

Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, premiering on FX on July 16th is one I'm planning to check out. Denis Leary stars, there's also eye-candy John Corbett too. The Whispers premiers on ABC on June 1st...not sure about this one but I'll at least check out the first epi. Are you watching Wayward Pines on Fox?

I haven't seen many new ones I'll be watching, but there's a ton of shows that are returning that I do watch so I'll be busy. Here's a website I follow that has a decent listing of the new shows: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/guide.aspx?id=newshows

ETA: Proof premiers on TNT on 6/16...might be worthwhile too.

I am watching Wayward Pines - actually I just read the book because I couldn't wait to find out what was going on. Have moved on to the second book. They strain credibility a bit but I'm enjoying them.

However, I'm wondering if the 10 episodes are just for the first book or the entire trilogy -- they are two episodes in and already about halfway through the first book, so I don't see how they could make the first book last another 8 episodes??

At any rate, I will stay tuned :)

Ooh - yeah, Sex Drugs Rock n Roll - I saw promos for that when I was on a business trip. I def want to try that one!!

Gee, none of the others on that site are looking good so far. Thanks for the link - nice resource! I typically use TVLine (I do love Ausiello so I followed him when he started it) but that's best for cancellations & renewals and the calendars in the fall....

I forgot to record it, someone watch it and tell us what you think!!

Watching right now - it's cute. I love John Corbett and though this is more Denis Leary, Corbett is good.

The daughter character is good!

Sex Drugs & Rock n Roll was the only one I intended to start watching, but somehow never ended up telling TiVo to record. Anyone still watching that show? How is it?

I take that back. I did DVR that show and once I had about 8 on there, I watched the first two. Deleted the rest and moved on. I wanted to like it but it was just awful, in my opinion.

Sex etc is ok. It isn't running right now - must have had an order or 8 and/or they split the season?

New shows - I like Blindspot ok. Picked up a couple of sitcoms - Life in Pieces (eh), Grandfathered (not great but I love John Stamos), Grinder (awful, but again, I like looking at Rob Lowe...) Have a couple other new shows starting this week and November (Truth be Told, Angel from Hell) but that's it. I have really enjoyed the new seasons of some old shows - Sleepy Hollow is good again, and Madame Secretary has started out awesome. Some well written strong female leads in dramas overall, I think, (and I don't even watch any Shonda shows now!)

These are the new ones I'm watching: Fear the Walking Dead, The Bastard Executioner, Public Morals, The Player. Lots of returns that I like: AHS: Hotel, The Leftovers, Fargo, The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, Blacklist, How to Get Away with Murder, Empire, and The Knick is back this Friday.

There's several others that are new that I have recorded and either haven't watched at all yet, or haven't seen enough to know: PBS's Indian Summers, Home Fires (liked the first episode of this one), and The Widower, Quantico, Blindspot, Limitless, BBC's The Last Kingdom.

Blunt Talk, Grinder, Rosewood, Code Black, and Scream Queens will probably end up deleted off the dvr, I'm not impressed. I love Jamie Lee Curtis but even she probably can't save Scream Queens for me.

Oh - I liked Indian Summers too. Decided not to watch Home Fires.

I thought about recording Scream Queens, but previews were mixed enough (and I don't love the horror genre- even satirical) that I opted not to. Glad I did....

I have to say I'm LOVING Scream Queens - I am probably more shocked by this than all of you.

Giving AHS: Hotel a go, but so far...eh.

Last night's slug fest on SQ had me laughing my butt off :)

ETA: duhhhhh...it was last week's episode.

I'm a week behind, so I haven't seen it yet, but I have to say that I am LOVING Lea Michele in this show.

Normally I can barely tolerate her -- probably because I saw her Glee character as really just an extension of Lea herself (which might have been unfair of me) -- but she is SO GREAT in this show! I hope I am not a jinx and I cause her to get killed off (although I think she is super tight with Murphy, so I'm hoping her job is safe). She is hysterical!

OH, and Chanel #2 (earmuffs) is Carrie Fisher's daughter!

I hope this show gets renewed because it is so entertaining.

Canceled Network TV Shows 2016: The Complete List (Read and Weep!
May 13, 2016 @ 7:31 PM

To adapt a line from noted showbiz insider Kermit the Frog, it's not that easy staying on the air. The major networks cut numerous shows this week in preparation for upfronts later this month, which meant tough news for fans of such shows as Castle, Nashville, CSI: Cyber and yes, even The Muppets.

ABC doled out pink slips right and left on Thursday, May 12, with the ax dropping for Agent Carter, The Family and The Muppets, along with popular country music soap Nashville, which finishes its fourth season on Wednesday, May 25. (Nashville fans can still hold onto a modicum of hope, as Lionsgate is currently shopping the series to other outlets.)The network also put troubled procedural Castle out of its misery following a month of turmoil, including the announcement in April that costar Stana Katic (Kate Beckett) would be exiting the show at the end of the currently airing season 8. Castle's series finale airs Monday, May 16.On the same day, Fox said goodbye to its two new star-driven comedies: John Stamos' Grandfathered and Rob Lowe's The Grinder. Meanwhile, CBS' biggest news came with CSI: Cyber getting the hook and Supergirl moving to The CW.

The bloodletting continued on Friday, May 13 (a day for bad luck, indeed!), as NBC jettisoned Eva Longoria's sitcom Telenovela, along with fellow new series Crowded, Game of Silence and Heartbeat. The network also gave the boot to Undateable after three seasons, the most recent of which aired in an all-live format.

Grab another tissue, and then check out the full list (so far) of shows from the 2015-2016 schedule that will not be returning to the major networks.

I had a feeling about some I was watching. Surprised that Grinder was cancelled - thought it was doing pretty good in the ratings (I also watch Grandfathered but knew it wasn't great) I really liked Telenovela though :-( Crowded is cute but that's just because I adore crotchety Patrick Warburton and Stacy Keach!
