I'm usually terrible at predictions, and I haven't seen ANY of these movies, but I'll make my predictions at some point over the next month and post here. Anyone else???

Yeah I'm terrible at predictions too, in part because I never see these movies until well after the awards are over and also because these awards are not strictly performance-based.

That said, I'm PUMPED about Sufjan Stevens being nominated for Best Original Song (even though I don't expect him to win). If he attends, which might be a long shot, this will be the first time I ever sit through the entire Academy Awards.

I haven't seen any of the films in the top categories either. It used to be that the movies nominated were also the most popular movies. With the exception of last year, that hasn't been the case for a while. Granted, I have two small children and have seen only two or three movies in the last year (two of which I saw at home but were recent releases thanks to movies coming out fairly rapidly after release nowadays) but even before children I rarely saw more than one of the films nominated for Best Picture and often I hadn't seen any. I've heard good things about Lady Bird and plan on seeing it when I can rent it through iTunes/Amazon/etc.. The title of the movie is confusing though. When I first heard about the movie I thought it was about LBJ's wife (famously nicknamed Lady Bird) and I'm not the only one I know who made that mistake.

I am voting for Allison Janey. Just because its Allison Janney and she is terrific in everything she does.

I am thinking Lewis will be the sentimental favorite because Phantom Thread is his last movie But I am thinking Oldman might get it.

Regal does this pass - nation wide - for $35 you can see all the nominated movies. At least in Charlotte, they dedicate one theater to this pass (for us it is in a Cinnebarre) they have a set schedule. They run all the movies from 4pm Friday Feb 23 through 4pm

Mar 4. Movie times are 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm

This is the second year in a row my daughter,16, and I have done it. We love it! You have to plan out your times and you may sit through four movies in a row, but we see them all and it makes the Oscars so much more fun.

We both did not like Shape of Water. For the second year in a row my least favorite was the winner, so at least we know who to pick next year?

I agree there weren't many surprises this year - fashion or awards or host jokes. Maybe it's best, given what's happened this year.....
