Sean Penn and Charlize Theron

Tongues were wagging when Sean Penn and Charlize Theron walked into Via Veneto for dinner in Santa Monica on August 5. According to a pal, the pair have been friends for years, and Sean, 50, has been there for Charlize, 35, lending her a shoulder to cry on. “He helped her through her split with Stuart [Townsend],” says the pal. Although an insider says the two are not dating, Charlize and Sean were being cute and flirty throughout the meal. And Sean “thinks she’s beautiful, and she thinks he’s brilliant.”

YOu know, he's prickly anda cheater, and Ted C has alluded to Charlize being a bitchy ice queen, so they might in fact be perfect for each other. Keep them from hurting kind partners

Watching Graham Norton from last week (I think - dvr ;-) with Sean Penn and he's funny. He's making jokes. He's not being a dick. Mostly. Shit. Who would have EVER thought that two prickly people like Sean and Charlize being together would actually make him less of an ass? Not sure about her - haven't seen her in interviews recently to know if she's improved or not, but wow, what a difference in him.....

(what were the comments he made about exes a few weeks ago - loved Madonna but was an absolute ass about Robin Wright? OK, so the dick is still there...)

Wait, after he was going on and on about how his previous marriages weren't REAL in light of the fact that his love for Charlize has taught him what real love is?????

These two A+ Listers were a surprise couple over a year ago and like we mentioned previously, the guy in this pair had a hard time keeping it in his pants, was caught and given another chance. To absolutely no-one's surprise, he got caught again and this time she ended their relationship. He tried to walk the line but it's just not in him. He never stopped cheating but it took another year for her to catch him. He's usually very careful, but this time he was too inebriated to cover his tracks and when she found out and approached him, he flew into a rage that scared her very badly. He had managed to keep that side of himself from her until that point and convince her he's really a good guy that women say horrible things about. The rumor is he is already heavily courting her again and begging her to come back. She wants to but I doubt she will make that mistake again. With her past, she runs the other way from angry men.

I think Penn is one of those guys who needs to just serially date. Not sure he gains anything from being in a monogamous relationship (that he apparently "can't" maintain) and it seems to really suck for the women, so....

I wonder what his relationship with his kids is like?

Need to split this couple thread up, eh ;-)

http://www.laineygossip.com/Sean-Penn-sues-Lee-Daniels-for-%2410-million-over-Terrence-Howard-remarks/40712

So, Penn is suing Lee Daniels for saying that Penn abused women. Eh. But Daniels also says that Terrence Howard is being maligned because he's black, not because he's an abuser, and that he's just acting like Marlon Brando or Sean Penn have.

So they're all misogynistic assholes is the message I'm getting. Am I wrong? Yeah, Brando & Penn hit women and still got hired and paid a lot of money. So does Howard. Maybe less money, and maybe that's race. But the fact the conversation is about race and not violence against women is disgusting to me.
