SPARTACUS- Blood, Sand and Lots and Lots of SEX!!!

Well, there's the PreQuel in January 2010: http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/20...uel-series.html but as a fan of Andy Whitfield, I am horrified and WILL NOT watch the new episodes starring the NEW SPARTACUS: http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=19384 http://www.collider.com/2010/10/14/wentwor...blood-and-sand/ http://www.liquida.com/spartacus/ I would have been happy if STARZ would have just allowed Spartacus to die or just disappear, then let the show be about Crixus or the Gladiator trainer or someone else but NOT REPLACE THE LEAD!!!!!!!!! AWFUL IDEA! Good Lord! VERY UNHAPPY fan. I have the DVD set of THE ONE & ONLY TRUE SEASON of Spartacus starring Andy Whitfield and Lucy Lawless. I'll watch the prequel but then I'm out.........

The Dreary Summer Film Offerings of 2010

I finally saw The Expendables last night and it was even better than I'd hoped and than what people were saying. :4biggrin: I am so impressed with Stallone. He has gotten A LOT better with age as a writer & director. Great pace, good plot (unlike SALT and I liked that movie ), awesome action (Holy Crap!!!) and PERFECT casting. You'll laugh, you'll clap, you'll wince, you'll go DAMN! , you'll hold your breath, you'll smile and you'll wish that your Dad could have been sitting in the theater with you. Well, maybe not that last part..... LOL But Dad, I hope you can see this flick in Heaven cause I KNOW you will LOVE it! The audience in the theater was very excited as we reacted to the many stunts and action scenes. The scene where Sly has to run for the plane had most fans howling & cheering. I hope he didn't hurt himself doing that stunt. He probably did but he loved doing it anyway........ And that hopeless romantic Stallone even threw in some very light romance to boot. So just what do the Expendables fight for? Hmmm.....money, love, family, fun, country, revenge, justice, for the Hell of It, to redeem their souls and to protect what little bit of Virtue there is in this crazy violent greedy world. Not bad guys. Actually, well done. The R rating was spot on, there is some intense violence but much of the blood & "kill shots" are shrouded in shadow/smoke (thank you ). The fighting was Pectacular with Mantastic fist/kung foo/kicking/grappling/throwing bouts that were off da hook! I never really liked knife throwers/warriors except in the 1992 flick Under Siege with Steven Seagal vs Tommy Lee Jones. Remember THAT classic? LOL But the knives hurling through Expendables are outrageously cool, deadly and non-stop. I learned to respect & enjoy the never ending possibility that a sharp point of steel could pierce a foe at ANY angle/minute..........REALLY. The gunplay is overwhelming and I mean that in a good way. After a while, it is beyond overkill to Fuck 'Em, Let's Blow This Shit and Go Home Already. Um, there won't be a sequel with ANY of these bad guys coming back. Most adversaries are shot, stabbed, burned, broken and smashed. OUCH!!!!!!!!! :4biggrin:

The Dreary Summer Film Offerings of 2010

I saw the previews for The Green Hornet and was really stoked until...........they said it would be in 3-D. What The Fuck!?! I HATE 3D flicks. $11 for kids and $14 for adults ARE THEY NUTS!?!?!? And IMAX is $18 It's like Hollywood is BEGGING movie fans to buy bootlegs or wait for cable. I don't even plan to buy the DVDs once released because I'm afraid the movies won't look right. And now the greedy muthas want to coerce folks into buying 3D televisions? After all the fuss with getting new TVs or "code boxes" because of the weird network changes, now we are supposed to CHANGE again? I still have a VCR and videos as well as DVDs and a DVR. :4biggrin: This shit is getting on my nerves. I just might read a book.

Movies You Have Walked Out On

saw a note somewhere in a magazine saying they are remaking the film Judge Dredd Holy Shit!!!!! I had blocked that awful movie out of my mind.......starred Sylvester Stallone in an ugly joyless dreary boring nasty little crapfest I walked out after a while I was so disgusted I didn't even sneak into another movie, I just ran out the theater there's no way in hell I even want to try the new one, sorry

The Dreary Summer Film Offerings of 2010

I just saw SALT starring Angelina Jolie, with one of my 12 yr old male students & his 40yr old Dad, we all LOVED IT!!!! It was fast, fierce, intense, thrilling and fun to watch. Yes, the plot was all over the place BUT just like the critics/reviewers stated, Angelina's performance is so focused and inspired- the audience just couldn't help but root for this crazy non-stop killing machine. We still couldn't actually figure out WHO THE HELL SALT IS!?! But we had so much fun trying to figure it out, we didn't care that the answer wasn't found. I think that whole question is what Hitchcock would call the "MacGuffin"? It's something/anything in a movie that tricks the audience into thinking is REAL/IMPORTANT but after the show, you realise that the question/quest wasn't really that much anyway. It's the experience that matters.......... :4biggrin: i hope i described that right. oh well, check it out! anybody else see this yet?

Movies You Have Walked Out On

So far, the consensus is that M NIGHT SHAMALAMALYN (?)'s Avatar movie based on the NIckelodeon cartoon (?) is vomit worthy. I work with kids and EVERYONE- kids, teens, preteens, parents- EVERYONE HATES this movie. FACEBOOK rants are stabbing it to death!!! I've heard people say it was racist, stupid, dumb, boring, that it had crappy special effects, not worth the extra $ for 3-D, and was just plain AWFUL! I was so proud when one of my students said he stomped out and snuck in to see Toy Story 3 instead. He LOVED that film. Oh, and be careful seeing Eclipse. Even though rabid fans of the franchise are singing its praises, a friend told me that when she went to the IMAX theater they charged her $17.50, well she TRIED cause she turned around and left. I've never been to an IMAX film so I was shocked by the price too. I can't believe How much money Eclipse will make from it's locked in book readership alone. It doesn't matter that it's a silly cheesy lame franchise. When I was younger, 3-D movies were just 3-D with NO EXTRA CHARGE for the glasses or for the "special effects" used to create the film. Between IMAX & 3-D, it seems Hollywood is just making craptastic films look even worse and making it easier for disgusted audiences to decide to "wait for it to come on cable". :4biggrin:

You know what, the 1st time I saw it on Netflix- I cut it off without finishing it. It totally freaked me out and frustrated me. But I watched it again, months later and learned to appreciate it.

    Captain America

I think Will Smith could be a great Captain America! click on this pic and see my comments: http://pix.motivatedphotos.com/2008/8/28/6...icaFuckyeah.jpg I found this pic and immediately thought of the old rumor about Will Smith starring in a live action film about Captain America! If the producers & directors would commit to a vision & tone like this visceral image- Will would do a fantastic job!!! Also, this pic reminds me of my Big Brother, Daniel. ;-) Over 25yrs in Armed Forces and STILL kicking ass!!!!!! HAROO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the design of the shield. It resembles that of a knight. FINALLY a new & different shield for Captain America that is even MORE patriotic! It looks almost like a flag. ;-D The long lean body of the soldier looks just like Will Smith to me. And I like the gun, just an average yet deadly weapon. The helmet looks retro but cool and definitely a necessity considering all the destruction in the background. This Captain America looks HUMAN yet his strength and courage are EXTRAordinary. Well, that's my 2cents. PEACE

The Dreary Summer Film Offerings of 2010

Sorry Tom & Cameron, I like you two but I actually SAW your awful movie and you were both boring and oh too cutesy. Either stop choosing crappy scripts or stop getting hack directors or step your game up and try some ACTUAL ACTING or just shut up/keep smiling & cash your million $$ checks for just sleepwalking on film. Yeah, the actors aren't 100% to blame but they MUST share some responsibility. I mean, come on!!!!!!!
  11. I'm a bit pissed that they deleted my old FoodNetwork posts but oh well: They're BAAAAAAAAAACK! Summer 2010 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've watched the episodes ON DEMAND-God Bless ComCast cable. My Faves are: Aarti- she's cute, personable, can cook and she has a unique NEW and seemingly tasty cuisine to share with the public Aria-I LOOVE her personality, she's no fuss, no muss- and her food usually comes across very well Herb-is such a HUNK and when he dropped down to do push-ups, I almost fainted!!! he has a GREAT idea with fusing cokking and healthy living and did I mention he's CUTE!!!!!!!!! but his nerves are killing him Brad- I WANT to like him but he's a bit too cocky and his food sometimes doesn't rise to the occassion, also HE'S scared shitless in front of the camera Tom- he CAN cook BUT he's too goofy & sloppy overall to do a show that I'd watch ************************************************** ******** Brianna is too snotty, too bad cause she can cook Daz was all talk the others, well I agree that they should have gone And that fast talking chick is sooooooooooooo irritating- just kick her off already........ 12. i tried to list the supposedly most anticipated films this season, so far. Basically, I'm not looking forward to ANYTHING this year. I started the list with movies from Memorial Day Weekend cause that's traditionally when the Summer Blockbuster season begins, right? Anyway.................... have fun voting. write in anything I forgot or that comes later on this Summer. To tell you the truth, I'm avoiding most of these films like the plague. :4biggrin:

Movies You Have Walked Out On

my 1st rant of the Summer 2010 Blockbuster season; well it's not really a rant. thing is, I went to see Knight & Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz mainly because there's a heatwave in Philly and I was playing hooky from work and my a.c. is on the fritz. I was at the theater for the matinee discount, $9 (whoopee? ), and all the other films had scores of loud camp kids .........so I kind of picked this flick for the wrong reasons anyway. Now the film: 1-it was cute, too too cute- Tom could do no wrong and it was just stupid easy for him to do anything. It was like watching McGyver AND The A-Team on SPIKE TV and I desperately wanted some commercials 2-plot was pointless & uninteresting 3-waaaaaaaaaay too many close-ups of Cameron Diaz; did she get plastic surgery? um........EW! 4-THIS IS THE FILM"S MAJOR FLAW: they kept having Cameron get knocked out or drugged so they could cut to another scene; it seemed like such LAZY immature writing, and the scenes would get blurry and slowly fade out........I thought maybe the film was broken or the projector person was screwing around; and having Cameron waking with the same clueless facial expression with her screeching, "Where am I?" "What happened?" Just became tedious. BUT then I found myself looking at the screen and feeling woozy..........next thing I knew, I was in a fantastic deep dark refrigerated sleep . I awoke a few hours later, it felt like 3 hrs but it was shorter, Tom was in a bed after apparently being drugged/knocked out and HE was asking where HE was....... thankfully, about 5 minutes later the film ended. Funny thing is, I didn't feel cheated or angry. My body was so frozen and relaxed. Besides I had no expectations about this flick and they definitely didn't seem to care. So there you have it. If it had been cooler outside or if other adult fare was available to sneak into or if the theater wasn't swamped with rowdy loud summer camp kids and if my air conditioning had been working- I would have walked out on this movie or never gone to see it. BUT it lulled me into a phenomenal sleep- truly, I was so bored and uninterested, it was like hypnosis............ It cured my insomnia!!!!!!!!! So should I give it some props? PEACE

    Just Wright

YEah, I agree. I ADORED Bringing Down The House!!!!! It was just too tooo hilarious. And Last Holiday with LL Cool J was cute but a bit lacking in chemisrty because the two leads had very little scenes together and that pissed me off! LL is HOT!

    Just Wright

Over Memorial Day weekend, I wanted to beat the heat of my un-airconditioned apartment and see something good. But I had few options to choose from. Hear hyper kids with Shrek 3-D, oh and did I mention I hate sequels!?!, Iron Man 2, did I mention I HATE sequels!?!, Robin Hood (which I heard was stupid), Prince of Persia (based on a video game I've NEVER heard of and never played nor have my kids), Sex & The City 2 (did I MENTION!?!.......) and then there was Just Wright. Just Wight is a romanctic comedy starring Queen Latifah and Common about a shy single BBW in her 30s who falls for a popular handsome nice guy who happens to play professional basketball. I won't post spoliers because there are a few. Overall, I LOVED IT! WHY? It was a nice polite cute film about falling in love. That's it. No bullshit, very little cursing if any, no gratuitous sex (though there is a subtle lovemaking scene), no gross jokes (BUT there are PLENTY of genuine LAUGHS), it's not 3-D (which I think is ridiculous hype that makes an over-priced $10 adult tix cost $14.50 WTF!?!?! ), it features adults with no PIXAR/animated/cute smart-ass kids ANYWHERE, no explosions, nobody got killed......IT WAS JUST A GOOD MOVIE. :4biggrin: I had forgotten what those were and what seeing one actually felt like. And just because it stars 2 African-Americans, it's NOT full of any hip-hop "urban" junk. And hey, before you cry racist, I'm Black. Sometimes I just want to see a movie about ANY people that doesn't have any stereotypes and sorry but I find many "urban" (AKA Black films) full of stereotypes. So............................... If you are interested in seeing a funny romantic film featuring attracive talented stars then go see JUST WRIGHT! A good sign- the theater was packed and many audience members clapped at the end. When the lights came on, there were young & old couples, girlfriends, guys, teens. It was a nice experience. PEACE
