theempress 80 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 I did a search and did not see a thread like this. I am still irked over what happened to "Wings of Desire" (a beautiful film remade as Tinseltown treacle, "City of Angels"). I cannot believe anyone would let Adam Sandler do "Mr. Deeds." fykeylicious 1,099 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 I will fight the person who tries to remake Streetcar Named Desire. There are others, but that's the first that came to mind.

BobbyD 2 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 Escape From New York is being remade...Kurt Russell is the only Snake Plisken. They are also remaking The Thing...obviously didn't learn anything from The Fog remake.

Babloo328 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 (edited) Any Woody Allen movie, especially Annie Hall or Manhattan or Crimes and Misdemeanors or Match Point or Hannah and her Sisters or anything. Leave it alone. Making Catcher in the Rye into a movie - it can't be done and it shouldn't be done. Remaking any of the great films of the past. This is what I don't get about remakes, if you're going to remake a movie, why not remake a shitty one? I mean, if it's already done beautifully the first time, shouldn't you just encourage people to go see that version whereas with a really craptastic movie from back in the day, if you can put a spin on it and improve it, why the fuck not? The new "version" of Sunset Boulevard based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. I will be dead in the cold, cold ground before I ever recognize that man as "artistic" or "talented" (by the way: this IS happening, with Glenn Close in the lead. Now, I love her, but come on -- Sunset Boulevard is one of the greatest films ever made). Edited May 1, 2007 by Babloo328
tyler 408 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Any 1950's film noir movie. Technicolor just seems to take away from the ambiance of the whole effort. Any scary movie that Roddy McDowell was in (or Planet of the Apes for that matter).
michelleb07 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Whatever Happened to baby Jane?, All About Eve, A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (I will also second the Streetcar not being remade sentiment, and that goes for all the Tennessee Williams plays that became movies, in my opinion). plick 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 From imdb.com today...I don't like this idea at all... German Oscar Winner Set for Hollywood Remake The Oscar-winning Best Foreign Film is to be remade as a Hollywood movie. German espionage drama The Lives Of Others will be revamped as an English-language film with moviemakers Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella coming together for the project. Pollack tells trade paper Daily Variety, "We would just desperately love for that film to be something that reaches more people. We haven't gotten locked into making it yet, but we're working hard at trying to get it going." The film's writer/director Florian Henckel Von Donnersmarck claimed Oscar gold for the film in February.

theempress 80 Report post Posted May 10, 2007 Remaking any of the great films of the past. I remember when theemperor rented the original version of "The Thomas Crown Affair" by mistake, not realizing the Pierce Brosnan version was a remake. I think in this case, the remake was better, even if it is not a classic film. I cannot imagine remaking "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." The very idea of replacing Paul Newman with anyone!! I'm sorry, but he is, hands down, the hottest man in the history of cinema. Ugh! I worry about what would happen to screwball comedies in the hands of modern film-makers. Oh, I am having visions of "My Man Godfrey" or "Bringing Up Baby" starring Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger (or Sandra Bullock), with tons of special effects to replace the dialogue, because nobody would get it. Ick.
purpleiris 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2007 I would be totally upset if they re-made Annie Hall. One of the best movies ever! I know this one is cheesy...but I love The Warriors. And I saw on imdb that they're remaking it! That pisses me off!
Serendipity 12 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Say it ain't so: DListed had this scary report of things to come: Diane English of "Murphy Brown" fame has been working on a revised version of the classic George Cukor film "The Women" for a while now. The remake has been in the works for around 10 years. Well, the cast is set and a shooting date has been sealed in concrete. Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing and Candace Bergen will play roles made famous by Joan Crawford and Rosalind Russell. The story follows a group of female friends when the one they envied most discovers her husband's cheating on her. Diane's script is said to maintain most of the story elements, but the characters aren't nearly as catty and bitchy as they were in the original. WHAT?! That was the whole point! Meg Ryan and Debra Messing in a movie TOGETHER?! Kill me now.
soho2chelsea 3 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 I am so annoyed by the remake plans for Sunset Blvd I could spit! I know it is supposedly going to be a movie version of the musical, but still! I am really really upset about the remake plans for The Birds --- especially when I read that studio article now saying that they are going to give a reason the birds attacked, and it is going to be environmental or something. Please! Hitchcock would roll over in his grave! The whole point of the movie was that no reason was ever given! *ranty* On a more lowbrow level, I am also irritated by the remake plans for Revenge of the Nerds and Escape from New York (I agree --- how could there be any other Snake Plissken?) F$%#^#KING remakes I have "The Women" on DVD and I still laugh out loud at this movie made nearly 70-years ago! You are right, Taco - the snark is one of the sweet things about it ("Ah miniatures, the sure sign of a petty mind"). It was funny in 1939 because, divorce? Shocking. Winning your man back? You go girl. Today, divorce is everyday stuff and winning your man back is considered weak. Have the collective grey cells in Hollywood been so burnt out by drugs and egos that no one can think of a unique idea for a movie? Thanks, but no thanks. I'll take my popcorn and aisle seat and go see something else.
taco 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2007 AAAAAAAAKKKKKKKK!!!!!!! I will have to spend the entire day in bed with a box of Sees candy, a pint of Chunky Monkey, 2 litres of Diet Coke & Mrs. Fields close at hand. Some A$$HOLE GOT THE IDEA TO REMAKE my favorite movie of all time, the absolutly PERFECT as it is, "Midnight". Reese in the Claudette role??......NFW Universal Pictures will develop a remake of the 1939 comedy “Midnight” as a star vehicle for Reese Witherspoon scripted by Michael Arndt, who won the Oscar for “Little Miss Sunshine.” Arndt hatched the idea, which prompted the producers to team. “Midnight” has “long been one of my favorite films, and it is easily one of the best comedies of the ’30s,” Arndt said. “Being given the chance to update the film with Reese in the lead is simply a dream come true.” In the original, Claudette Colbert starred as a destitute young woman in Paris who becomes a pawn when a wealthy man tries to get rid of the gigolo wooing his wife. John Barrymore also starred in the film that was directed by Mitchell Leisen and written by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder. The original was released by Paramount but became U property when the studio bought the pre-1948 Par library.

golden*girl 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 (edited) I've seen more pre-1970 films than post-, so I'm just going with the blanket no remakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There aren't enough decent ones to justify them in general. But to be more specific ... No Hitchcock remakes. No. No remakes of any film noir. No classic film musicals. No way. Especially not On the Town or any Fred and Ginger stuff. The Thin Man--no touchy. Anything that originally starred Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, or Jimmy Cagney. Leave it alone. No Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich vehicles. Don't do it, Hollywood. Edited July 10, 2007 by golden*girl
