I think this article has some good points:

#337122 Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts I & II

Posted by witchkitten on 19 October 2017 - 08:29 PM

Our theater ran out of season tickets this year (the package that included Hamilton) so I thought I wasn't going to get to see it, but we were still able to get seats for a couple hundred each, which is expensive but not outrageous. I have friends in Los Angeles who said the only tickets left were the $600 seats. Although, I think initially there were less seats available when I first looked. The seats we got weren't there when I looked before they came to our city. I don't know where the new seats came from.

#337087 Harvey Weinstein

Also - I call BS on all these people that rebuffed his advances. Angelina would do anything to stay relevant, and sleeping with Weinstein is a minor inconvenience

Agree completely. It's been long rumored that Gwyneth Paltrow was cast in Shakespeare in Love because she slept with Weinstein. I believe her part was supposed to go to Winona Ryder.

ETA: Also, I see a lot of actors and actresses are defending themselves by saying "I never saw any of these behaviors", which is probably true. I doubt Weinstein was raping women in front of A-listers, and I find it plausible they didn't know all the details, but they knew he was crossing the line even if they didn't know how far, and for them to pretend like this is some shocking revelation is ridiculous.

Harvey Weinstein is disgusting. I'm glad he's finally being outed.

#337051 You Must Remember This Podcast

Has anyone else been listening to this? It's a podcast about Hollywood's first century and it is by far my favorite podcast. it's definitely worth a listen to for anyone who's interested in Old Hollywood or Hollywood history. The podcast is currently between seasons and I can't wait for the next season.

It may be that she's too thin for the implants she got. At some point it doesn't matter how good the surgeon is, if your body is too small for the implants, if you don't have enough skin, they'll look like bolt-ons. She should have gone smaller and allowed for a more teardrop like shape because they look ridiculous.

Munchausen's could work if she's deliberately making herself sick. Everyone talks about Munchausen's by proxy but Munchausen's (making oneself sick instead of another person) is also a disease. She may also be a hypochondriac or just a liar.

#336714 Lin Manuel Miranda's 'Hamilton'

Posted by witchkitten on 16 July 2017 - 01:25 PM

I saw Hamilton last weekend when in was in San Francisco. It lived up to the hype. It's definitely my favorite post 1980s musical. I can't stop listening to the soundtrack or singing the songs (very off key). My husband also loved it and he's not someone who usually loves musicals.

#336614 Kill (or "ditch)/Screw/Marry

Inspired by this post of Lainey's on the Wolf Pack - of the three here, Leo, Toby or Orlando? Gotta say - I would probably kill them all (Lainey's post is pretty funny about the impact of Orlando being #2 for Katy Perry ;-)

Marry: Orlando
Screw: Leo
Kill: Toby

Toby Maguire just gets on my nerves and he's short so I'm getting rid of him. Between Leo and Orlando, Leo is a bigger playboy so I think he'd make a worse husband.

I just watched the HBO documentary Going Clear so let's do a Scientology edition:
Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Will Smith

Charlotte looks so much like Queen Elizabeth. I think George looks like a mix of Kate and young William. I love the picture of Charlotte throwing a tantrum. It's nice to know the super wealthy aren't immune to the terrible twos. Kate's dress would be nice on someone a few decades older than she is but it was much too matronly for her. I don't mind Pippa's dress. Not my favorite but it's not hideous. I think she overdid it at the gym. Her arms were a little too thin and toned.

#336451 Celeb Death Watch

And Roger Ailes just now, dead at 77

I....want to not be happy about this. Sure, he was an asshole, but he's dead now, so.....
The world is better off without him in it. I'm not exactly happy, but I'm certainly not mourning his loss. I feel bad for his family (if he has any, I don't know anything about his personal life) but it doesn't change the fact that he's likely a psychopath (a person who lacks empathy and has no emotional attachment to right and wrong) who did a lot of harm in his lifetime.

#336425 Election Year 2016

Posted by witchkitten on 14 May 2017 - 01:55 AM

I Live in rural NC and I would venture most of my white neighbors are Trump supporters, based on the signage I saw last fall. And based on gerrymandering and exit polls, I'd guess most of my African-American neighbors didn't vote this election....

As much as I'd like to disconnect, I think it's important to try to understand the anger and mindset behind what has happened so we can stop it!!

I agree 100%. It's just that I don't have access to many Trump voters. Actually any Trump voters. My friend's parents live in Ohio and are conservative so she will occasionally tell me their rationales for things but that's about it.

I'm less concerned about those who did vote for Trump since I think only a minority of them would have voted for any democrat. It's the people who voted for Barack Obama who didn't even vote in the last election, or worse, voted but left the presidential section blank, who likely made the biggest impact. I just don't see many people being not racist enough and liberal enough to vote for a moderately liberal black man for president suddenly being okay with an openly racist, highly conservative nutcase like Trump. It's not that they don't exist but the number has to be relatively small.

I live in the blue bubble known as coastal California (Orange County excluded and even they voted for Hillary) so I really don't get to see the Trump support firsthand. The mental gymnastics they go through to justify his actions is astonishing.

#336383 TV shows that you USED to watch

Posted by witchkitten on 08 May 2017 - 01:37 PM

I quit when "ghost" Denny made an appearance. I was not a fan of the character (I know, I know, I'm the only one) and I hated Izzy's storyline involving him, so when they brought him back, as a ghost no less (I know it turned out to be a hallucination from a tumor), I was out. During the previous season I had decided I was going to watch through the finale and then be done with the show but the season finale was so good that I decided to give the show once more chance. That turned out to be a mistake. I did watch the episode where they brought Burke back, though. I know the actor was a douche but Burke was a great character nonetheless
