#337620 Celeb Death Watch

Posted by witchkitten on 21 February 2018 - 08:13 PM

Im not going to mourn Billy Grahams death. He was antisemetic, and IMHO did not deserve the praise he got. Not only was he antisemetic but when he was confronted by others he denied saying anything and was believed until nearly a decade later the Nixon tapes were released and he was recorded saying all sorts of vile things about Jewish people.

#337599 Divorce in 2018: Who'll do it, soonest?

Bristol Palin's husband files for divorce - not even 2 yrs... https://www.msn.com/...6a7P?li=BBnb7Kz

(and already 2 kids with him, plus the 3rd from old relationship. Maybe get some birth control and just go have sex, instead of getting pregnant and "having" to marry inappropriate men. Family values indeed...)

Bristol Palin is a poster child for whats wrong with abstinence only sex education. It doesnt work as demonstrated by every single study on the subject.

ETA: My apostrophes keep disappearing when I post from my phone. I swear they were in there.

#337523 Oscars 2018

Posted by witchkitten on 26 January 2018 - 03:27 PM

I haven't seen any of the films in the top categories either. It used to be that the movies nominated were also the most popular movies. With the exception of last year, that hasn't been the case for a while. Granted, I have two small children and have seen only two or three movies in the last year (two of which I saw at home but were recent releases thanks to movies coming out fairly rapidly after release nowadays) but even before children I rarely saw more than one of the films nominated for Best Picture and often I hadn't seen any. I've heard good things about Lady Bird and plan on seeing it when I can rent it through iTunes/Amazon/etc.. The title of the movie is confusing though. When I first heard about the movie I thought it was about LBJ's wife (famously nicknamed Lady Bird) and I'm not the only one I know who made that mistake.

This Matt Damon interview is just rage inducing. He is the perfect example of why sexual harassment and abuse has been allowed to go on for so long in our society.

#337122 Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts I & II

Posted by witchkitten on 19 October 2017 - 08:29 PM

Our theater ran out of season tickets this year (the package that included Hamilton) so I thought I wasn't going to get to see it, but we were still able to get seats for a couple hundred each, which is expensive but not outrageous. I have friends in Los Angeles who said the only tickets left were the $600 seats. Although, I think initially there were less seats available when I first looked. The seats we got weren't there when I looked before they came to our city. I don't know where the new seats came from.

#337087 Harvey Weinstein

Also - I call BS on all these people that rebuffed his advances. Angelina would do anything to stay relevant, and sleeping with Weinstein is a minor inconvenience

Agree completely. It's been long rumored that Gwyneth Paltrow was cast in Shakespeare in Love because she slept with Weinstein. I believe her part was supposed to go to Winona Ryder.

ETA: Also, I see a lot of actors and actresses are defending themselves by saying "I never saw any of these behaviors", which is probably true. I doubt Weinstein was raping women in front of A-listers, and I find it plausible they didn't know all the details, but they knew he was crossing the line even if they didn't know how far, and for them to pretend like this is some shocking revelation is ridiculous.

Harvey Weinstein is disgusting. I'm glad he's finally being outed.

#337051 You Must Remember This Podcast

Has anyone else been listening to this? It's a podcast about Hollywood's first century and it is by far my favorite podcast. it's definitely worth a listen to for anyone who's interested in Old Hollywood or Hollywood history. The podcast is currently between seasons and I can't wait for the next season.

It may be that she's too thin for the implants she got. At some point it doesn't matter how good the surgeon is, if your body is too small for the implants, if you don't have enough skin, they'll look like bolt-ons. She should have gone smaller and allowed for a more teardrop like shape because they look ridiculous.

Munchausen's could work if she's deliberately making herself sick. Everyone talks about Munchausen's by proxy but Munchausen's (making oneself sick instead of another person) is also a disease. She may also be a hypochondriac or just a liar.

#336714 Lin Manuel Miranda's 'Hamilton'

Posted by witchkitten on 16 July 2017 - 01:25 PM

I saw Hamilton last weekend when in was in San Francisco. It lived up to the hype. It's definitely my favorite post 1980s musical. I can't stop listening to the soundtrack or singing the songs (very off key). My husband also loved it and he's not someone who usually loves musicals.

#336614 Kill (or "ditch)/Screw/Marry

Inspired by this post of Lainey's on the Wolf Pack - of the three here, Leo, Toby or Orlando? Gotta say - I would probably kill them all (Lainey's post is pretty funny about the impact of Orlando being #2 for Katy Perry ;-)

Marry: Orlando
Screw: Leo
Kill: Toby

Toby Maguire just gets on my nerves and he's short so I'm getting rid of him. Between Leo and Orlando, Leo is a bigger playboy so I think he'd make a worse husband.

I just watched the HBO documentary Going Clear so let's do a Scientology edition:
Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Will Smith

Charlotte looks so much like Queen Elizabeth. I think George looks like a mix of Kate and young William. I love the picture of Charlotte throwing a tantrum. It's nice to know the super wealthy aren't immune to the terrible twos. Kate's dress would be nice on someone a few decades older than she is but it was much too matronly for her. I don't mind Pippa's dress. Not my favorite but it's not hideous. I think she overdid it at the gym. Her arms were a little too thin and toned.
