OMG! I loved these books as a child and read and reread them so many times. I've never encountered anyone else who has even heard of these before. Thanks for the review-its nice to know they are not totally forgotten. Did you love all the Borrower books too?

Yes - loved the Borrower books. And mysteries - Boxcar Children and....there was another family-based series - Bobbsey Twins maybe? This would be young reader, as I was on to Nancy Drew by age 9 and Agatha Christie at 11 (my mom actually received some nasty comments about "letting" me read those at too young an age - but she couldn't really control what I read.....)

Boxcar Children! WE really must have been separated at birth-no one else has EVER heard of that one! Secret Garden was another favorite and if you haven't read the whole Oz books series by Baum , they are worth seeking out

I liked Secret Garden but LIttle Princess better (I was given a boxed set with those in it) I read Wizard of Oz and the 2nd book (name escapes me at the moment) but couldn't get into that series. Apparently I was particular about how much "fantasy" I wanted to read and how it was manifested

I happened to read a bunch of books about possessed dolls of various sorts and cannot remember anything about those anymore (would love to) and had another couple favorite books in the children's section of the library - one was called 11! Time for Marriage Farhut (about an Indian? girl with a pet tiger who didn't want to be married) and another about a slave during the Salem witch trials called Tituba...Not sure if there was more in the title or not.

The problem with being a voracious reader and using the library is that it's very difficult to remember and/or find all the books I loved as a child

What about Trixie Belden - have you heard of those? My mom read them, they were of an "earlier" generation - I think my stepgrandmother had a set and I started reading them on vacation once - once I start a series I like, I have to finish it..

And The Littles! Knew there was an Americanized version of the Borrowers but couldn't remember the name. Another favorite - From the Mixed up Files of Mrs Basil E frankweiler.

I have lots of books from my childhood early reading - I think mom was a member of some book club - but they're all the thin, mostly picture just starting to read cardboard 8X12 books. Once I outgrew those, it was off to the library.....But I want to read all those again now! (no kids to read to - and my nieces and nephews are far away and also not quite old enough yet - though a couple have gone through the Lemony Snicket books and I was reading those to them last summer and they were really interesting - I had to go to the library so I could finish the one I was reading bedtime chapters from when I visited )

Pippi Longstocking was another big one for me! I was so happy to see a trick-or- treater dressed as Pippi this year!
DH gave me a whole set of the Betsy-Tacy books for Christmas one year. I'm still a big reader, mostly murder mysteries, but love the Diana Gabaldon series.

We haven't hada lot of activity in this forum recently, but I've discussed Gabaldon in the past (I love her - got my mom addicted, who in turn got some of her friends into the series....) I can't remember if we had a Historical thread where we talked about her, or romance, or just in the general 'what are you reading now" thread. I love mysteries too, for the most part ones that take place in an historical context.

I loved the Betsy-Tacy books. I introduced my daughter to them and she read every one she could get her hands on. They were hard to find for a while but they were reissued a few years ago.

I have read all of the books and series noted here. I bought the audiobook of Betsy Tacy for a car ride with my daughter and we have the whole collection for when she can read it on her own. I bought all of the Trixie Belden releases a few years ago (mine got destroyed in a musty basement) but they stopped the reissues after about 12 books.
