SORRY, CHARLIZE
Charlize Theron, statuesque in a low-cut, white column dress by Ralph Lauren, presented the leading actor award to Adrien Brody at GQ' s Men of the Year Awards. Remembering his antics with Halle Berry at the Oscars, however, gave her some pre-show jitters. "Everybody's scaring me about this," she said of a potential kiss. "I'm ready to give him an award, but I didn't quite think about (the kiss) until everybody started pointing it out." As for whether all the well-dressed gents on the red carpet appealed to her, she said, "I like men who are confident and comfortable, no matter what they're wearing."]]>

CHARLIZE Theron is generating Oscar buzz for her searing portrayal of a serial killer in "Monster," but some real-life violence sent the actress scrambling for the exits at the party following the New York premiere Wednesday night.
Theron was caught in the middle of an ugly brawl between Brazilian paparazzo Laura Giannoni and a mystery man in Theron's entourage at the Viscaya lounge after the "Monster" screening nearby.
It started after the short, gray-haired man at Theron's table angrily objected to Giannoni photographing the star. Giannoni claimed that Theron's friend kicked her in the leg, cursed at her, and later grabbed her hair and punched her face before leaving with the actress.
A spokesman for Viscaya owner Bobby Malta says Giannoni spit in Theron's friend's face, spurring him to "grab her around the throat and try to strangle her.
"At that point, Charlize was clearly horrified," continued the spokesman, who witnessed the incident. "She wanted to be escorted out. So we escorted Charlize and her friend outside. The photographer continued to rant and rage. She was very upset. She went outside and hailed a police car. And we were happy to cooperate with them."
Giannoni denies spitting at Theron's friend and says he kicked her after she snapped a picture of Theron without permission. "I was bleeding from a cut on my cheek were he punched me," she said.
Giannoni filed a police report at the 13th Precinct. "They took pictures of my face, but I can't press charges against the guy because I don't know who he is . . . I am distressed, depressed and tired." The club maintains that no one saw the man punch Giannoni. Another partygoer said she only suffered a bloodless scratch on her cheek. Theron's spokeswoman did not return calls.
"Monster" details the story of Aileen Wuornos, a Florida prostitute who was executed for killing seven men in the 1980s. Theron, who physically transformed herself for the meaty role by gaining weight and shunning makeup, is garnering rave reviews for her performance.
While co-star Christina Ricci was shooting a movie and couldn't make the bash, "Monster" writer/director Patty Jenkins, Journey singer Steve Perry, actress Regina King and "Oz" stars Dean Winters and Lee Tergesen were there.

Stunning CHARLIZE THERON stepped out of her glamour gear and into the warped mind of serial killer AILEEN WUORNOS for the chilling flick 'Monster,' and now the daring actress is talking about her real-life, violent, family homicide on the next "Primetime Thursday" with DIANE SAWYER. Watch ET for the latest.
Born and raised in South Africa, Charlize recounts the childhood incident where she witnessed her mother shoot and kill her father in self-defense. Sawyer asked Charlize if she was always on her mother's side and how the ordeal affected her. "I was there. So, you know, I saw what happened," she explains. "There were three people in that room. And I know that -- if -- if my daughter was in the same situation, I would do the same thing."
She also reveals how the tragedy has influenced her acting career: "Through acting, I get to make my work very personal; I think that has been my survival. I think acting, and the way people say therapy have healed them, acting has healed me."
And Charlize has moved onto not only become one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood but a formidable actress as well. She just received a Golden Globe nomination for her transformational role as real-life, convicted, serial killer Wuornos in 'Monster.' The svelte star put on over 20 pounds and is virtually unrecognizable in the part. When asked if the woman she portrayed on-screen was crazy, Charlize divulges, "No ... I think crazy is too easy of a way to explain it. She'd gone through so much up to that point that I think the closest thing that I could relate her to is like a stray dog. I mean, the way -- I think she'd been just beaten up so many times in her life."
'Monster' is currently in theaters, and "Primetime Thursday" airs January 8 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.

Actress Charlize Theron broke down in tears during a TV interview in America last night when she was asked about the night she watched her mother shoot her father. The South African movie star insists her mother acted in self defense, but admits for years she lied about her dad's death. And on Primetime Thursday last night, Theron choked up when interviewer Diane Sawyer quizzed her about the night her mother took on her alcoholic father - when the actress was just 15. She said, "Oh Diane... erm... you know the tough thing about things like this is that everybody now knows. It's out. For years I just said that he died in a car accident." Theron went on to reveal that acting has helped her deal with the incident. She added, "I think acting has healed me. I get to let it out. I get to say it and feel it in my work and I think that's why I don't go through my life walking with this thing, and suffering."

Charlize Theron and her Irish boyfriend Stuart Townsend have been thrown out of their favorite Los Angeles sushi bar -- for being too greedy.

Theron says, "I have been going to this restaurant for three years. It's kind of like a date place for me and Stuart and we're good customers.
"The food is amazing and there's no menu and you basically eat what's fresh, which is great. He threw me out because I ordered too much food.
"The funny thing is we've been going so long that we've seen him do it to other people and it always kind of disturbed us, but it's always a funny story to tell to people. Now I can see everybody at the dinner table going, '... and Charlize Theron got totally kicked out.'

'Charlize Theron flashed me her boobs'
January 27 2004
By Jeremy Gordin
I have had Charlize Theron's breasts in my face, right under my nose in fact. You don't believe me? It's true.
In 1994, when I was the founding editor of South African Playboy, the editorial team was looking for its first Playmate, but having trouble as no "respectable" girl who met the standards set by Playboy USA would appear fully nude. I was phoned by someone called Charlize Theron from Benoni.
Accompanied by her mom, and dressed in jeans and a T-shirt (green, if I recall correctly), she came to see me and the magazine's deputy editor and art director (both women) to show us her modelling portfolio. She had done a shoot in the United States made up as a Marilyn Monroe lookalike.
Theron was gorgeous. Moreover, she told us: "I have worked a little in the States and know what Playboy is like, how important it is to one's career to appear in it - and I have no qualms about appearing naked." We had told her that our first Playmate would be shot at Playboy headquarters in Chicago: this was part of the "prize" for being chosen.
I called the publisher into my office to meet Theron. She, in turn, called me out the office and said: "Look, she's lovely, but you know that Playboy - or rather, Hugh Hefner, who every month still vets every Playmate photo shoot - has this thing about Playboy women being large-busted. She's clearly not well-endowed enough."
How do you tell someone that her breasts are too small to make it into Playboy?
But this was what I was paid to do, so the publisher and I went back inside my office and I said, "Er, well, you see..."
"You think my breasts are too small, don't you?" she interrupted.
And then, she whipped off her T-shirt, under which she wore no bra, and said, "You better have a better look. They're sort of hidden under this shirt."
Theron got the job with immediate effect.
Alas, she soon after received a more lucrative modelling offer and, in the end, was not SA Playboy's first Playmate. But she was certainly one of the most confident, single-minded and beautifully-endowed people I had ever met.

7 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHARLIZE
February 11, 2004
Star Online
Her mesmerizing portrayal of a serial killer in Monster snagged her a Golden Globe Award on Jan. 25, and now Charlize Theron is nominated for a best actress Oscar. Star has the scoop on this 28-year-old from South Africa:
1. SHE WAS A BALLET FANATIC AS A CHILD
Charlize's childhood friend Marlise Wolmarans says, "We were doing The Nutcracker in school and we were backstage in point shoes. Her feet were bleeding and she took off her shoes with skin and blood everywhere, but she carried on."
2. ENGLISH ISN'T HER FIRST LANGUAGE
Charlize was raised speaking Afrikaans, a Dutch-based language spoken in South Africa. "It's still very much a part of me," she says. In January, she told Diane Sawyer, "My boyfriend actually told me two days ago that I was talking to him in my sleep in Afrikaans."
3. HER MOTHER KILLED HER DAD -- AND SOMEHOW SHE GOT OVER IT
On June 21, 1991, when Charlize lived on a farm in rural South Africa, her alcoholic dad Charles threatened to shoot Charlize and her mother, Gerda. He fired his gun into Charlize's room ("Everybody in South Africa has a gun," Charlize has said), prompting Gerda to grab her own gun and kill him. More than 10 years later, Charlize says, "It's a part of me; it doesn't rule my life."
4. SHE GOT FAT FOR HER MONSTER ROLE
To prepare for her role as serial killer Aileen Wuornos, Charlize gained 30 pounds by gorging on junk food. "I ate lots of Krispy Kreme doughnuts," she told Star. "Losing it wasn't as much fun."
5. SHE REPORTEDLY WANTS TO GET MARRIED
Charlize is smitten with her Irish boyfriend, actor Stuart Townsend, 31, whom she met almost three years ago when they filmed Trapped. "I've never been the marrying type," says Charlize, who is officially not engaged, "but I could definitely see myself enjoying a big day out now that I've met Stuart."
6. SHE WANTS TO STAR IN A COMEDY
After many dramatic roles, Charlize is ready for something different. "I'm dying for a comedy... I like to laugh," she said. "I can be funny, too."
7. SHE LIKES TO DRIVE -- FAST
"I drive a Mercedes, and I have a tendency to drive too fast, which is very bad," says Charlize. For The Italian Job, she filmed a chase scene, which got her motor running even more: "I got two tickets within a month."

Hotly-tipped Oscar nominee Charlize Theron has become so overwhelmed by the attention lavished on her - she fled to Brazil to escape. The Monster actress, 28, decided to take a 10-day break to the South American nation recently after winning countless Best Actress accolades during the Awards season, including a Golden Globe. And Charlize - who dates Irish hunk Stuart Townsend - believes the trip has helped her to continuing enjoying the acclaim heaped up her performance as serial killer Aileen Wuornos . She says, "I took ten days off. I went to Brazil for ten days and just kind of got away from it all, and I think that was good because I don't want to get to a place where it just becomes too overwhelming. So I'm just enjoying it and feeling very happy about all of it!"

Theron Slams Beauty Jibes - In a See-Through Dress
imdb.com
Oscar-winner Charlize Theron has criticized people focusing on her beauty - even though she appeared at a charity event yesterday in a see-through dress. The South African star is furious at suggestions she won her Academy Award in February because she vastly altered her appearance to play dowdy lesbian serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster . She rallies, "Anybody can make themselves ugly. Do you think the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences is going to give an award to somebody just because they made themselves ugly? Do you think Nicole Kidman just put on a fake nose and got an Academy Award? She was really f***ing good in that movie (The Hours )! People forget the work, the performance." Theron - who attended the Green Cross Millennium Awards in Los Angeles in a daring see-through black dress, which showed off her breasts and g-string - continues, "Somewhere along the line we forgot what actors do. All of a sudden, somehow, the fashion industry crept into the movie industry. Celebrity has really taken over and over-shadowed what actors do. Actors aren't supposed to be beautiful; actors are supposed to tell human stories, but that kind of got lost."
