One of the creepiest unions to come across my desk in days is the blossoming friendship between Halle Berry ("Why Do Fools Fall in Love") and Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst ("Player$"). The Oscar-winning actress recently starred in Durst's new video, "Behind Blue Eyes," where the two "kiss, for like 40 seconds," a spy told the New York Post's PageSix. "So basically, to get that shot right, Fred and Halle had to kiss for hours." But it doesn't end there. Apparently the two have since become fast friends, with Durst visiting Berry on the "Gothika" set not once, but twice. Sure, she's married, so the relationship's probably innocent, but given Durst's reputation, and the reported troubles with her marriage, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. On the plus side, this might make him finally stop talking about sleeping with Britney.

Halle Berry and her husband of less than three years, R&B singer Eric Benet, have separated, the "Monster's Ball" Oscar winner announced Wednesday, reports the Associated Press.

"Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together," Berry, 37, said in a statement. "However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time."

Representatives for Benet, who is also 37, did not immediately return AP's calls for comment, and Berry's spokesperson would not expand upon the actress's statement.

Berry first met R&B artist Eric Benet after a 1997 concert at Los Angeles's House of Blues. There "weren't any sparks," she had said, according to a July 2002 PEOPLE article. But after the two swapped emails for more than a year, "I turned to him and said, 'You know what? I think I love you,'" Berry told PEOPLE.

The couple became engaged three years later, at the Cleveland premiere of Berry's HBO film "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge," and were married in January 2001.

Berry was previously married to Yankees slugger David Justice, but the relationship ended in 1996. Berry and Benet both liked to watch movies and hang around the house, PEOPLE reported last year. They also have been raising India, now 12, Benet's daughter from a prior relationship (whom Berry adopted), together.

Berry, who capped last year's Oscar win with a winning performance as agent Jinx in the 007 movie "Die Another Day," was last seen in theaters as Storm in "X2." She is currently filming "Catwoman," a screen spinoff of "Batman."

Tabloids have long speculated about there being instability in her relationship with Benet, who at one point was reportedly treated for a sex addiction.

Page Six

JUST a week after PAGE SIX revealed the deep friendship between Fred Durst and Halle Berry, word comes that the sultry actress has split with her sex-addict husband, Eric Benet.

Berry made the decision last weekend and released this statement yesterday:

"Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together. However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to re-evaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time ."

Berry is now filming "Catwoman" in Vancouver.

The 21/2-year marriage of Berry and Benet has been a rocky one. A year ago Benet sought treatment for sex addiction, and Berry - after she had all female assistants and extraneous women removed from Benet's life - claimed she had forgiven her cheating spouse.

While Berry is close to Benet's daughter, India , whom she adopted, she and Benet have spent a lot of time apart in the last year while she was making "Gothika" and now "Catwoman."

Benet, meanwhile, has been trying to put out an album - without drawing much interest. The singer/songwriter is said to be down about his struggling music career.

"During the summer he was out drinking wine and just kept going on about how his music wasn't selling," a friend of the couple told In Touch magazine. "He wasn't good company, and Halle wasn't happy about how he's been wallowing in self-pity."

The pal added: "Eric is distraught. He doesn't want to go out. He just wants to spend time alone, moping around their home. His friends have been trying to get him to go out, but . . . I think he is afraid he will just burst into tears in a public place. He is very, very upset."

Benet's insecurity couldn't have been helped when Berry's new, close pal Durst visited her twice in Canada, on the "Gothika" and "Catwoman" sets.

Durst told mtv.com just days after his last visit with Berry: "Someone has come into my life that I really, really bonded with like I've never bonded with anybody."

Benet's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg declined comment.

Benet's Career Slump Blamed for Berry Split
imdb.com

Movie beauty Halle Berry split with husband Eric Benet because his career woes were dragging her down, according to pals. The couple announced plans to separate yesterday morning after two and a half years of marriage, and those close to the Oscar-winning actress believe she was unable to take anymore stress. Benet openly admitted to cheating on the Die Another Day actress and went to rehab for sex addiction, and in the time since he has been concentrating on his music career. But his new material failed to spark much interest - and, according to American gossip bible Page Six.Com, he spiraled into depression. A source close to the couple says, "During the summer he was out drinking wine and just kept going on about how his music wasn't selling. He wasn't good company, and Halle wasn't happy about how he's been wallowing in self-pity. Eric is distraught. He doesn't want to go out. He just wants to spend time alone, moping around their home. Representatives for Halle Berry's estranged husband Eric Benet are scrambling to deny reports the Oscar-winner ditched the singer because she caught him cheating on her again. The Monster's Ball beauty announced her separation from Benet last week amidst reports she had begun a romance with Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. But according to the New York Daily News newspaper, it was Benet - who has previously admitted to cheating on Halle with ten women, including some of her good friends - not Berry, who has strayed. A source tells the paper Halle arrived home recently to discover Benet entertaining two mystery women. The source adds, "There were two women in various stages of undress. One of them was wearing Halle's lingerie and the other was wearing nothing." However, a spokesperson for Benet dismissed the story as "fabrication".

The woman named as having an affair with Eric Benet insists she's not responsible for his split from Halle Berry - even claiming she had hoped the pair would stay together. Reports emerged in the summer of last year that the R&B hunk had cheated on his Oscar-winning actress wife with Julia Riley, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, singer who has known Benet since 1989. And while many have speculated that Berry and Benet's split last Month may have been due to the reported affair, Riley insists she didn't have a hand in the meltdown. She tells American tabloid the National Enquirer , "I had hoped that Eric and Halle would be able to work it out and stay together. I wish them well, and I hope they can save their marriage. I haven't spoken to Eric in months. He hasn't called me. I wish Halle and Eric well, but it is their life and their marriage. It has nothing to do with my life."

Wesley Snipes Named As Halle Berry Abuser
imdb.com

Actor Wesley Snipes has been exposed as the abusive ex-lover of Halle Berry, who struck the actress so hard, she lost most of the hearing in her right ear. R&B singer Christopher Williams - who dated Berry in the early 1990s - has made the startling accusation against the Blade star after getting upset with the number of people who assume it was him who dealt the screen beauty the damaging blow. He tells entertainment news website Eurweb, "The stuff they wrote about (me) and Halle was totally false. They said something like I busted her eardrum, and I'm tired of it. I never said it (before) but I'm so tired of people thinking I'm the guy (who did it). Wesley Snipes busted her eardrum, not me." Williams, who has a child with ex-girlfriend Stacey Dash , also takes a swipe at Berry - insisting the twice-married star may have personality problems which have contributed to her string of broken relationships, most recently from Eric Benet. He adds, "I have (men) come up to me like, 'How could you just leave Halle Berry ' I'm like, how could you just leave the last relationship you was (in)? (Halle) is just a woman, but because her name is in lights, people are damned near ready to bare their souls. "hey would probably crucify Jesus again just to get with her. It's funny because the stars that get all of the good write-ups, you go and meet them and they are total a**holes."

In a startling accusation, one of Halle Berry's former beaus has pinpointed Wesley Snipes as the man who busted her eardrum.

R&B singer Christopher Williams, who hooked up with the the actress in the early '90s, says he's setting the record straight because many have assumed he was the one to hit Berry so hard she lost most hearing in her right ear. Berry has never divulged her attacker.

"The stuff they wrote about (me) and Halle was totally false. They said something like I busted her eardrum, and I'm tired of it. I never said it (before) but I'm so tired of people thinking I'm the guy (who did it). Wesley Snipes busted her eardrum, not me," Williams allegedly told entertainment site Eurweb, which bills itself as providing the "Urban/Black Entertainment 4-1-1."

Calls to Snipes' attorney and Berry's reps were not returned.

Williams also had some harsh words for his former girlfriend: "I have (men) come up to me like, 'How could you just leave Halle Berry?' I'm like, how could you just leave the last relationship you was (in)? (Halle) is just a woman, but because her name is in lights, people are damned near ready to bare their souls."

"They would probably crucify Jesus again just to get with her. It's funny because the stars that get all of the good write-ups, you go and meet them and they are total a--holes," concluded the singer.

No denying the Bond babe's had her share of bad luck with men. She recently split from hubby No. 2, R&B singer Eric Benet, after two years of marriage. Berry was previously married to purportedly abusive baseball star David Justice from 1992 to 1996. During their acrimonious divorce, she filed for a restraining order claiming she feared for her "personal safety and well-being" around her ex.

Less volatile is Berry's relationship with the box office. The Oscar winner recently wrapped production in Toronto on Catwoman opposite Benjamin Bratt. The two are slated to reteam and shoot The Setup for director Sydney Lumet.

After that, Berry's scheduled to star in Nappily Ever After from indie helmer Patricia Cardoso (Real Women Have Curves) and Lee Tamohori's action-thriller The Guide while lending her voice to CGI 'toon Robot from director Chris Wedge (Ice Age).

Bad-Luck Berry Strikes Again

If a Catwoman has nine lives, Halle Berry's using them up fast.

The Oscar-winning, accident-prone actress was at it again over the weekend, reports say, requiring a brief stay at a Canadian hospital following a scrape on the set of her would-be summer blockbuster Catwoman.

Berry, 37, was knocked on the noggin Saturday by a boom pole (so says the Star magazine) or a lighting rig (per the Vancouver Province ) while filming a stunt action sequence at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts for the comic-book flick (both publications agree).

Warner Bros. was said to be at work on an official statement regarding the incident. A call to Berry's publicist was not immediately returned Monday morning.

A spokesman at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver said he'd read reports about the accident, too, but noted he could neither confirm nor deny if Berry was treated at the facility. ("Hope she's all right, though," he added.)

Monday's Vancouver Province featured what it said was a photo of Berry being driven away from the hospital in an SUV.

Per reports, Berry required oxygen on the set following the collision. She then was taken to St. Paul's for tests, and discharged seven hours later early Sunday morning, the Vancouver Province says.

No word on how the incident will affect the film's shooting schedule. Catwoman is targeted for a July 30 release.

Last year, Berry suffered a broken arm while filming a scene for her thriller Gothika. In 2002, she braved an eye injury on the set of Die Another Day.

Divorce: Berry Split from Benet Final
STEPHEN M. SILVERMAN
people.com

Halle Berry has filed for divorce from her husband of three years, R&B singer Eric Benet, her spokeswoman has announced.

Publicist Karen Samfilippo confirmed the filing Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court but declined comment. There are reports that the split is amicable.

Last Oct. 1, the actress announced her separation from Benet, saying in a statement: "Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together.

"However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time," she added.

Berry, 37, was previously married to pro ballplayer David Justice, but the relationship ended in 1996. The instability in her relationship with Benet, also 37, has been well-documented, and at one point her husband was reportedly treated for a sex addiction.

Benet also has a young daughter, India, from a previous relationship with a girlfriend who was killed in a car crash 15 months after the girl was born.

Berry and Benet reportedly met in 1999 at a party to celebrate the premiere of Berry's HBO movie "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge," for which she went on to win a Golden Globe and an Emmy.

She then became the first African-American woman to win a Best Actress Oscar, for her work in 2001's "Monster's Ball."

Benet's debut album, "True to Myself," was released in 1996. His hits include "Spend My Life With You" and "Love Don't Love Me."

And trust me...women CAN do things...it's just something a REAL MAN doesn't/should do(hit a woman). A REAL MAN walks away. Trust me, I have been in situations and seen situations where the wrong choice was made....and some women want to use that to their advantage(provoking or daring a man).

Karma? Shoot...Wesley career is actually done well, even though he is not a sex symbol. And look at what she had to do to get that oscar....demeaning.
queenie
I don't think there was anything demeaning about what she did in that movie. It was a love scene and they made it look as real as possible and effective.
Star*Baby
Yeah, what did Halle do that was demeaning?
BobbyD
The love scene was soft core porn. Can't even call it a "love scene" there wasn't any chemistry in that scene between Billy Bob and Halle. She started ripping her own clothes off, "make me feel good..." Billy bob sits up, and quietly says..."ok."

Sorry, very demeaning, IMHO. A lot of folks here(la-la land) feel the same way. Scratching our heads over her winning the oscar. Nice to see a person of color get the oscar...but for Monster's Ball?? huh.gif
princess
You know, I think people often give someone the Oscar because of a past performance they should have gotten it, but didn't. I think Halle got it for that Dorthoy movie, but since she was passed up that year for Oscar, they gave it to her for Monster's Ball. I liked Monster's Ball and didn't think the chemestry was that bad, but prob not oscar worthy.

Look at Russell, he won for Gladiator?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! I think he got it for Gladiator because he was skipped for A Beautiful Mind.
BobbyD
Great point, Princess...I didn't think of it like that. It also didn't help that Dorothy Dandridge was on HBO. I thought her performance was Halle's best to date in that movie.

But I think Russell got the oscar for "Gladiator" to make up for "The Insider" (excellent performance). Because "A Beautiful Mind" came after "Gladiator" and Crowe blew it by cussing out the producer at the British Academy Awards and being an overall pig. And Denzel got his "Training Day" oscar for being dissed in "The Hurricane" at the expense of Russell Crowe.
princess
Oops, you're right - I ment The Insider for Russ.

I think people get Oscars a lot because of past performances, not because of what they currently got nominated for. Oh well, keeps things interesting anyway when it comes to Oscar wins.

Sorry, very demeaning, IMHO.

That scene was not demeaning in any way.....****spoiler****

Her husband was executed, her son was stuck and killed by a car, she was trying to scratch out a living as a waitress. She had a total melt down and was looking for a release, someone or something to make her feel good and forget. Men aren't the only ones that do that. And if Halle was demeaning by what she did, then Billy Bob Thorton demeaned himself as well.

And there was definite chemistry between the two.
BobbyD
I still think it was demeaning....you mean to tell me she can't show her "release" from a meltdown unless she rips her clothes and gets pounded by billy bob? The rawness/uncomfortablility of the act, I didn't feel that was necessary(he didn't show any attraction to her whatsoever. It was porn...And most people would agree with me. The scene was long and raw. The movie could've been effective without it. A lot of eyebrows were raised when she won for that....not her greatest achievement...but we already discussed Oscar's rewards for past roles skipped over.

Anyway, we both can differ on this. It's not that big a deal. I'm about to rent the DVD now...Guess which scene I will watch? tongue.gif And it ain't about the chemistry, believe me!!

Note to animal lovers: pull in your claws when it comes to Halle Berry.

The “Catwoman” star is under attack from some who’ve seen the flick. In the film, which opens in July, Catwoman apparently rescues felines from a product-testing laboratory — which struck many animal-rights types as ironic, since Berry is also a makeup pitchwoman, and cosmetics companies routinely test on animals.

“We’ve been swamped with calls and emails from people saying, ‘Go after Halle Berry! She’s a hypocrite!’” says an insider at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. “But we did some research, and it turns out she only pitches for Revlon, which has stopped all its animal testing. So now Halle’s become our cover girl. We’re putting her on the cover of our cruelty-cosmetics brochure. She’s our kind of superhero.”

That's too bad because it was one of his best work IMO and he was definitely robbed that year in 2002.

'Catwoman' Was Therapy for Heartbroken Halle

Catwoman helped Halle Berry cope with her husband Eric Benet's cheating ways because the character helped her escape her messy private life. Appearing on Oprah Winfrey's chat show in America tomorrow, Berry will reveal reports of her estranged husband Eric Benet's philandering were true - and she used her Catwoman character as therapy to deal with the heartache. She says, "I so needed to be Catwoman in that moment. I so needed to make some tough life decisions for myself, and putting on that suit made it a whole lot easier." Berry also tells Winfrey that she'll never wed again after two failed marriages to baseball player David Justice and soul singer Benet. She adds, "I always hate to say never to anything, but I will never marry again. It's probably the first time the tabloids got my life right."

Halle Berry Stalker Sent by God to Marry Her
Thu, May 27, 2004, 11:05 AM PT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Oscar winner Halle Berry has more than her share of man troubles.
The 37-year-old actress is seeking a new restraining order against a Louisiana man who has been stalking her since 1998, reports Celebrity Justice.

Over five years ago, former Navy SEAL and preacher Greg Broussard began calling Berry's manager, claiming that he was going to marry her. His repeated calls, threats, inappropriate gifts and a "surprise" visit to Los Angeles resulted in a restraining order, which recently expired.

At the beginning of May this year, Broussard began to call again in earnest and insists that "God told him to marry Halle" and that he will "eliminate" anyone standing in his way -- namely Berry's manager, publicist and attorney. His escalated efforts include threats that he will head to Los Angeles once again to "settle this once and for all."

The 40-year-old Broussard is currently under investigation in Louisiana for making threats and assault.

On top of all this mess, Berry is still dealing with the divorce proceedings to end her marriage with Eric Benet. The actress, who won an Oscar for her leading role in 2001's "Monster Ball," will next star as an avenging superhero in "Catwoman," which opens in July.
