  1. From crazy days and nights

So Jenny McCarthy does not want to marry Jim Carrey. My guess is that he said he would not marry her, at least without a pre-nup so now she is saying she has always loved the Kurt Russell Goldie Hawn type relationship.

She may be sincere about not wanting to commit to marriage with him.

Like most comics, Carrey is notoriously difficult. Maybe she wants a quick exit if things get sticky.

  2. It's mainly for books I want to read, but for series--I have to keep the entire list on there or there's a chance I could duplicate.

I duplicate anyway, because publishers are always changing titles to add appeal for the American market!

I hate that; I think I am getting a new book by a favorite author and it turns out I've already read it under a different title.

I just finished City of Light, by Laurie Belfer.

It isn't a new book, but I thought it was interesting.

  3. I think Phillipa Gregory is one of Victoria Holt's psuedonyms. Loved reading all her stuff.

No, that was Phillipa Carr.Phillipa Gregory is a current author who writes historical novels that focus on lesser-known people- for instancem The Other Boleyn Gilr is the story of Anne Bolyn's sister Mary, who was a lady-in-waiting to Katherine of Aragon, and was also Henry's mistress.

  4. Just finished "To Doon with Deat" by Ruth Rendell

I loved that!I don't know why they don't film Rendell's work, that would make a great movie! In an interview once, she said Bette Midler once optioned THE KILLING DOLL, but nothing came of that.Another author I met told me Rendell's books don't seem that popular in the U.S.I don't get that; she reminds me very much of P.D. James whose work is frequently filmed and always sells very well.

  5. I wish he'd get those warts removed from his face- they are so distracting. And I think he'd really be attractive if he did. JMO.This is the same thing that bothers me about Christian Bale - although he only has one, by his right eye.Ewwww!(I know, I know, I am shallow. But why have those things on your face when they are so easy to remove? I just don't understand it).

  6. My point was she goes and does nude scenes for the director of Closer...then freaks and makes him cut them and burn them(never to see the light of day). If she's against nude scenes why even film them in the first place, and make a big stink about them?

Second thoughts? She probably knew that, once there, she couldn't go back.

I aqree, she doesn't necessarily need them for her career, but nudity is a part of acting...and she's being uptight.Don't also forget that some roles do call for an actress to get nude

Do they really?I have never seen a film where the actress HAD to be nude; she could just as easily be wrapped in a towel or something.I think all that about "artistic necessity" is nonsense... It's just to juice the box office, imo.

  7. She doesn't want to go nude because she doesn't want to be on porn sites. Well, if you're that insecure with how nerdy boys who watch Star Wars over and over again work, then I think you're in the wrong line of work, Natalie.

She must be on the porn sites anyway; it doesn't matter if an actress actually poses nude, someone will just superimpose her head on a nude body and let the geeks drool. Why should she go nude? That's for unknowns struggling to break in, older actresses trying to prove they're still sex goddesses, or child stars hoping to make the transition to adult roles.Portman doesn't fit any of those categories; and she's established enough to refuse to do anything she doesn't feel like doing.

  8. I guess you're right; it's just that there always seems to be an inordinate amount of pandering about Farrell.I don't think he even cares about anything Cruise does or says; he just sees a chance to be all trendy at his expense, because people will applaud him for it.I don't know if I'm expressing this very well- I guess what I really mean is that Farrell doesn't have the courage of his convictions because his convictions are whatever's popular at the moment. JMO.(I guess you can kind of tell that I dislike Colin Farrell, hmmm?)

  9. Farrell was working on Minority Report with Tom Cruise and a little "unknown" director named STEVEN SPIELBERG...Cruise and Steven were friends at the time, so wouldn't have been smart of Colin to "attack" Cruise at that time.....

Exactly. The man's a shameless opportunist. So, I won't bother to cheer him on- I don't object to the sentiments but I despise the source.

  10. Farrell doesn't impress me. So he can take a cheap shot or two at an easy target. It's easy to jump aboard a bandwagon everybody's already on, isn't it?Where was Farrell during Minority Report?Personally I can't stand him, he looks like he smells bad.

  11. I enjoyed Match Point, but not because of SJ.I agree that she is somewhat overrated as an actress. (Seems the type to have a limited shelf-life).It will be interesting to see how she comes across in THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL, opposite Natalie Portman and Eric Bana.

  12. Lake Bell was on Boston Legal - I liked her in that actually. But damn yes those feet are huge! But, you know what they say about big feet! Maybe Colin's into that ;)

I liked her on Boston Legal as well. And really, she seems too classy to be interested in Colin Ferrell; he's so grubby. Then there are those rumors about spreading a little something around...I can't understand why anyone would find him sexy, but then, poor hygiene has always been a deal-breaker for me.It's put me off Viggo Mortensen, Brad Pitt, and Keanu Reeves (Luckily, I never much liked Ethan Hawke anyway).

  13. I am looking for a good book to read. I am looking for story with twists and turns. Any suggestions?

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child write some great thrillers!(Avoid the books they write separately; they are at their best when they team up!)Try Riptide. It's got everything: a sympathetic hero, a beautiful heroine, a great villain, a hunt for pirate treasue...it's fantastic!

  14. I never could read the Anne Rice Vampire books! I read the witch series, and that's it for her stuff. Well, I LOVE the erotica she wrote under pseudonyms!! But I couldn't even get one chapter into Interview with a Vampire (and I can and have been known to read ANYTHING)

Same here! But I did like the Mayfair witches series.Loved Buffy- still sorry that show ended. I really adored Spike, but am not into vampire novels much (although the Charlaine Harris series about Sookie Stackhouse is fun). But the rest..eh.I'm one who didn't care for The Historian; it was very atmospheric, but it didn't make sense to me.Caleb Carr's The Alienist was better, imo.

  15. I put stuff on my reading list and then when I get sidetracked (you know, by life :P ) I don't update or check for stuff for a while....I had a message from the library when I got back into town--more books waiting for me to check out :D

I know!I am always looking for new reading material.I have a friend who has 17 books out at the library, but when I asked her what she was reading, she said glumly "Nothing good!"I must reread Mask of Red Death for our book club- ever read it?Another historical mystery. The detective is Edgar Allan Poe, and it has characters like P.T. Barnum and Kit Carson.

  16. I'm dying (oops, sorry, poor choice of words, as I'm off to a funeral  ) to get See Delphi & Die (Lindsay )--that's the British title and it's been out there for a year or so--is Saturnalia the American publication name?? Or are they skipping publishing See Delphi & Die in America totally??

No, SATURNALIA is the one after SEE DELPHI AND DIE; it won't be published until some time in 2007.SEE DELPHI AND DIE was pretty good though ( I really like Helena Justina's family). Trouble is, it did kind of end with a cliffhanger. I thought SDAD was published in America because I read it months ago.Hmm, if it wasn't I wonder where I got it from?I hate when things aren't published in America; I was dying to get Ruth Rendell's END IN TEARS and couldn't.Finally a friend bought the thing in Canada so I was able to read it.An author I met told me that some British authors who do very well in their home country don't have the same success in America- different tastes maybe? Anyway he said Rendell was one of them.

  17. In the early years, he was quite stunning & a marvelous athlete. I don't think it was until after Jane's death he really started gaining weight (what with the syphilis & gout, etc :P ) With Anne, he was still pretty handsome....But he was a TALL REDHEAD, so Eric Bana seems an odd choice to play him.....

They can just put a few henna streaks in his hair; I'd much rather have an attractive Henry than a historically-accurate one! :D I know I'm shallow.Btw, everyone seems to like the Elizabether Peters series on Amelia Peabody.I did too, until the focus shifted to the younger generation.Am I the only person who can't stand Nefret?? I also enjoy Lindsey Davis and Stephen Saylor; I can't wait for Davis' next book SATURNALIA.But it's not due out until 2007.And the next Gil Cunningham isn't due until November, and the George R.R. Martin isn't due until who knows?Really some of these writers are such lazy bums! ;)

  18. Did you read the Karen Harper series about Elizabeth? I just finished my first one and really liked it. I am also near the end of The Queen's Fool and like that too.

And then of course, last weekend I read the new Julia Quinn and really enjoyed it!!

You'll like the Cunningham series; I find myself using expressions like "ken" and "bothy."

But I haven't read Harper, and Quinn isn't my cup of tea. I'll check out Harper, though.

I'm always searching for reading material.

Know what I don't like about Elizabeth? It sounds so silly, but I think the clothes from that era were hideous.

  19. I love historical fiction, especially mysteries!Of course I've read the Newman series on Catherine LeVendeur; P.C. Doherty's Hugh Corbett series, and Alys Clare's Hawkenlye series.But- my absolute favorite is a new series by Pat McIntosh set in medieval Glasgow in the early Tudor era. It's the Gil Cunningham series- only four books published to date and each is better than the preceding one!Another series I enjoy is George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire.It is based on the War of the Roses, anyone read it?It does get frustrating, because there is a lengthy wait between books (seven in the series); but it is so well-written, with remarkable characters.Tracy Chevalier's books are also done well; Girl with a Pearl Earring; The Lady and the Unicorn.Btw, does everyone know that Phillippa Gregory's book, The Other Boleyn girl, will be a film with Natalie Portman as Anne and Eric Bana as Henry?I know they made a television version a few years ago, but this should be better.
