  1. I'm reading 1491, which is a non-fiction history of life in the Americas before Europeans arrived. It's really interesting, and I am learning a lot about native American history that I never knew. The author seems to have done a good job talking to historians, anthropologists, archeologists, linguists and molecular biologists.

  2.

I know the feeling. I nod off after reading for only a few minutes.

    And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Hoyaheel!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes. Fykey--I commented on your blog that I may be the only person who really loved The Historian, even (especially?) all the "boring" history stuff. But I was a history major in college so maybe I'm immune by now??

Nah - I know of a lot of people who liked it just because of the history; you're not alone :)

I took one history course in college and I think perhaps it scarred me for life

I liked the history part of the Historian, and I did like most of the characters whcih kept me reading, but ultimately I found the book to be a bit disappointing. The ending seemed like a stretch and I've read/seen enough vampire-hunting stories, I guess.

I'll be curious to see how you like it bittermuch.

Have you tried the 13th tale? That was better than I had expected, but mostly because I liked the old-book angle?

  3. Heather Mills has taken her one-woman show to the skies.

The Dancing With The Stars contestant performed an impromptu mid-air dance act in a failed attempt to entertain fellow passengers.

During a flight from LA to London, the literally captive audience were subjected to the routine after Virgin Atlantic's in-flight entertainment system failed to work, according to a report in London's Metro.

Heather Mills tried her Dancing With The Stars moves while mid-air

Heather, who suggested the idea to cabin crew, took to the aisle with her Dancing with the Stars dance partner Jonathan Roberts.

But after a 10 hour flight, fellow passengers proved difficult to impress, with her performance failing to even rouse a round of applause.

Mills was back in London to visit Bea, her daughter with estranged husband Paul McCartney.

Why is her dance partner going with her to the UK? Either it's a visit to see Bea, or it's more self promotion!

  4. Imagine if this were McBongo/Jake/Tom Cruise or Hayden C (or any man) saying this? You'd hear a pin drop before everything exploded for weeks, with people hanging on their every word. Natalie/Dunst/Furtardo say it or hint round it and nobody notices.

I just find it ironic is all. ^_^

But Jake has said essentially the same thing. Here he is in an interview with Premiere in 2005:

"You know it's flattering when there's a rumour that says I'm bisexual. It means I can play more kinds of roles, I'm open to whatever people want to call me.

"I've never really been attracted to men sexually, but I don't think I would be afraid of it if it happened."

And in another interview following BBM:

Gyllenhaal grew up in an enviously glamorous and liberal milieu. Both his parents are filmmakers, and his sister Maggie is an actor. Growing up, the idea of same-sex love was never a big deal.

"The fact that I have two godfathers who are a gay couple and a lot of my friends came out when they were 15 or 16 probably helped it all seem not that foreign," he smiles.

".... The thing is, sexuality isn't about left or right, conservative or liberal. It affects everyone. A lot of people, no matter what their political stance, are dealing with this issue."

  5. NEW YORK - Here’s a bet there won’t be any Beatles songs on the next “Dancing With the Stars.” ABC announced Wednesday that Paul McCartney’s estranged wife, Heather Mills, will be among the competitors.

I actually think it would be hilarious if every time she danced it was to a Beatle's tune....

  6. Not that it's really a big deal - cause who cares - but you don't feed 2 month old babies food so I call crap on this.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. The thought of Matt Damon breastfeeding his daughter "airplane style" is just way too creepy to contemplate.

This is People's fault. That baby was born in June, so it's just turning 4 months old. Lots of folks start with dilute cereal at 4 months. (I'm a fan of waiting a little longer and then just letting the babies feed themselves.)

  7. I really liked Shanghai Noon, largely because of him. I also have enjoyed him in independent films, like The Life Aquatic (he is supposed to be clueless in that movie and it works well) and (to a lesser extent) in the Royal Tennebaums. As a person, he does seem like a major He-Ho. Wouldn't want to touch him....
