    Johnny Depp

DEPP'S WINE ANONYMITY sfgate.com Movie actor Johnny Depp tasted anonymity for a moment recently -- when he went unrecognized at an exclusive wine connoisseurs' dinner. The star was invited to the private meal after making a purchase at wine merchants Berry Brothers & Rudd, who also count British monarch Queen Elizabeth II as one of their clients. A company spokesperson says, "He dropped in one day and spent 45 minutes here discussing wines with one of our salesmen. "Then he made his purchases. I can't disclose details of what he bought, but he was invited back later to a private dinner." And a number of fellow diners at the plush meal failed to recognize the superstar's identity. An insider says, "It was hilarious. He spent half the evening telling men who didn't recognize him that his name was Johnny, and that he was an actor."

    Naomi Campbell

Campbell Shocks with Drug Confession imdb.com Supermodel Naomi Campbell has stunned a TV studio audience by exposing details of her drugs battle - after fighting to keep her ordeal a secret. The temperamental catwalk queen won $6,300 damages at London's High Court in 2002 after she sued a newspaper for taking pictures of her leaving a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Los Angeles. Campbell took legal action claiming the photographers breached her privacy. However, on British chatshow host Michael Parkinson 's TV program - to be aired in the UK tomorrow - the model admits she did battle an addiction to alcohol and has experimented with drugs. She told him, "Once an alcoholic addict, always an alcoholic addict. I took my first drug at 24 years old. I did a drug, a speedy drug. No one forced me to do it, I did it because I wanted to. I don't have any blame for anyone but myself."

    Hugh Jackman

FAMILY ACTIVITY Hugh Jackman enjoys a little hang time with son Oscar, 4, and wife Deborra-Lee Furness (not pictured) at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., on Monday. It's a rare spare moment for Jackman, who's been performing eight shows a week on Broadway in The Boy from Oz. He'll get to rest after Sunday, when the show closes.

    Hugh Jackman

Off the Boardspeople.comSadly, Hugh Jackman is ending his Tony-winning run as Peter Allen in the Broadway show The Boy From Oz on Sunday. (Some tickets for his farewell performance, the show's finale, are up to $350.) After nearly a year of performing the show eight times per week, we wondered, would he consider another shot at the Great White Way? "(Hugh has) no plans for Broadway anytime soon," says his assistant, John Palermo. ("I am really, really tired," Jackman told the New York Times this week. "I don't think I've ever worked this hard, and probably never will again.") Instead, the X-Men star (who turns 36 Oct. 12) will go on safari in South Africa, then head home to Australia for a month. In November, he's back to work, filming the $40 million sci-fi flick The Fountain in Montreal.

    John Cusack

Ted C. of E!DudeBitsJohn Cusack has been overheard discussing marriage, one candidate being Neve Campbell , another I'm not at liberty to say. Though not with either of the gals in question. In public. Grand, right? Well, yes. And no. Some of these chitchats here in Hell-Ay were rumored to be taking place with one of Mr. C.'s 10 percenters (i.e., an agent-manager-flack type).Well, let's just hope Mr. C. was informing said reps, rather than getting their advice on how it would affect his career--which is precisely the scenario that was reported to moi. A mistake, I'm sure, as Mr. C. is as steely as they come. I couldn't ever imagine him making a decision that wasn't entirely his own. Regardless, John-doll, are congrats in order? Do tell!

    AIDS

TEd C. of E!Dear Ted:I think there is a dangerous assumption made by supposedly educated human beings that AIDS affects only the poor, gay men and intravenous-drug users. My sister-in-law was recently diagnosed with an STD that will likely leave her infertile. She had been using birth control with her partner, but he refused to wear a condom. I realize your column is not a sex-education forum for the masses, but I hope this will be a wake-up call for others. SusanDear Susan:Sorry to hear about your sis-in-law. Somebody needs to say to her man (and others like him)--very Beyoncé-esque--"No glove, no love."

    Diva Behavior Reports

filth2go.com Naomi Campbell is difficult. OK, that may not be a startling revelation. It’s like saying Faye Dunaway has a bit of a temper. But Naomi is well on her way to becoming a regular feature in this column, joining the ranks of Fayewatch and Ross Rage. You’ll recall that the model was forced to get anger management counseling after throwing a cell phone at her personal assistant in 1998. In Naomi’s defense, she didn’t like the way the assistant’s hair looked that day! She’s currently being sued by another personal assistant (we’re well into double digits here) for brutally slapping her and holding her hostage back in 2001. And on top of that, last month, Campbell was investigated by the NYPD for beating her maid! Allegedly, Naomi has struck back (so to speak) and leaked to the authorities that said maid used a forged Social Security card to get a driver’s permit. Good help is SO hard to find! Leona Helmsley was known for being “particular” (a nice was of saying she was difficult, too). I’m told that time has mellowed the 84-year-old widow. Well, time and 18 months in the slammer. Ironically enough, Leona spent her sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut – the same joint where Martha Stewart is soon to reside! My sources tell me that Leona has sent Martha a message that she’d like to give her some tips on how to make her “stay” as comfortable as possible. Something tells me Martha could teach Helmsley a thing or two!

    Broadway Industry News

Cindy AdamsNY Post BROADWAY'S upcoming season, per an internal crib sheet, not for outsid er's eyes, and mostly so insiders see who's doing what where, ain't terrific."Plays" are mostly revivals. A dozen. Like "American Buffalo," "Twelve Angry Men," " 'Night Mother." Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire" in Studio 54 and "The Glass Menagerie." David Mamet's "Glengarry Glen Ross," maybe into the Royale. Arthur Miller 's "After the Fall" at American Airlines. And the musical revivals: "The Wiz," "Sweet Charity," "Pacific Overtures," "The Threepenny Opera," "La Cage Aux Folles" into the Marriott Marquis. Of the five new plays, two are Brit imports, like "Democracy," which goes to the Brooks Atkinson, and "Pillowman," which will probably show at the Cort. For new musicals, "The Frogs" and "Dracula, the Musical" already have come up off-key. "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is from London. Borough President Marty Markowitz will be well-represented, however. New musical "Brooklyn" goes to the Plymouth," new play "Brooklyn Boy" heads for the Biltmore. The big deal are the special events. Like the not-so-risky/not-so-expensive one-man jobs — Billy Crystal at the Broadhurst, Dame Edna at the Music Box, Whoopi Goldberg at the Lyceum, Martin Short at wherever he's going to be and "Forever Tango."So Where, Oh Where Have the New Playwrights gone? To Sitcomland.

TIGHT-FISTED Page Six THERE'S an imperfection that might offer a clue as to why Tiger Woods and Swedish stunner Elin Nordegren have reportedly split. He's cheap. A valet at the Rio in Las Vegas tells us Woods is one of the worst tippers ever. "Tiger is arrogant and cheap," the valet said. "He would rather carry his own bag than tip us. But if Tiger is traveling with his dad, his dad compensates for his son's thoughtlessness." On the other hand, another Woods, actor James Woods, is the nicest man — "great guy, friendly, egoless, and great tipper."

    Andy Dick

DICK AROUND L.A. September 06, 2004 Provided by: [National Enquirer Online] Out-of-control TV geek Andy Dick fought like a madman as bouncers physically threw him out of LA's Prey nightclub after he lewdly groped women AND men! Once outside, comedy's answer to Courtney Love started tearing at the clothes of photogs -- then ran out into busy La Cienega Blvd. and actually stopped traffic until a cop removed him from the scene. In recent weeks, the not-so-funnyman's made headlines for public boozing, plus slapping, groping, kissing and even vomiting on people! In one incident, Dick went berserk and sobbed loudly about the death of funkster Rick James -- then never showed up at his funeral.

NIC CAGE: MARITAL WOES? September 07, 2004 Provided by: [star Online] Could the honeymoon for Nicolas Cage and his 20-year-old bride Alice Kim be over already? "Alice wants to get out of the house and go to work or back to school," said a source close to the couple, adding that Nic is encouraging her to remain homebound. "Nic told Alice that if she went out in public, the press would never leave her alone and she wouldn't be able to work. He's asked her to just be patient and adjust to married life." According to the insider, Cage, 40, promised to buy his wife -- a former waitress -- her own restaurant if she's still bored in a few months. "Alice is going to have to adjust to doing things his way," said a longtime friend of the actor. "And if she gets in a snit, I think she'll become the ex-Mrs. Nic Cage as fast as she became the third Mrs. Nic Cage." The Oscar winner's rep denied there were any problems. "It's not true. They're extremely happy," the rep told Star. "They could not be better." -- JOSH HERMAN & BRENDA YOU

    Martha Stewart

MARTHA WAITS OUT CELL CRUNCH Page Six MARTHA Stewart will surrender to start serving her five-month sentence for obstruction of justice as soon as there is a vacant cell at the Danbury federal prison for women, sources say, leaving her daughter Alexis, 38, to oversee her company. "There is no available bed at Danbury, and hasn't been for a couple weeks," said one insider. "She's just waiting." Anna Cordasco, a spokeswoman for Stewart's legal defense team, told PAGE SIX yesterday: "She is exploring her options and is committed to doing what is right for her company." The doyenne of domesticity was sentenced in July to five months in prison and five months of house detention for lying to federal investigators about her well-timed sale of ImClone stock in December 2001, just before the firm's cancer drug was denied FDA approval. The Post's John Crudele reported last month that Stewart, saddled with huge legal bills, is cash-poor. She is selling her $7 million Perry Street apartment and has put one of her East Hampton estates on the market. "The company would like her to get [jail time] over with," a source told Crudele. "Advertisers are pushing. They want closure." Tracy Billingsley , a spokeswoman for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, confirmed that both the low-security women's jail and the minimum-security women's "prison camp" in Danbury are "crowded." Stewart's stockbroker, Peter Bacanovic ? who drew the exact same sentence, even though he was convicted of more serious insider trading charges ? is expected to surrender at the same time. Martha's TV show was put on hiatus as her legal woes mounted, and she has nearly vanished from Martha Stewart Living magazine, which used to feature her on the cover each month and in an editor's letter inside. Stewart and her execs at Martha Stewart Omnimedia are busy "debranding" the company and making it less dependent on the image of its founder. Last month, the company bought Body & Soul magazine and Dr. Andrew Weil's Self Healing newsletter. Our insider said, "Alexis has been studying the company and has sold her interest in the Karma Yoga studio on West 65th Street to prepare for her new role."

    The Celeb Price of Fame

Baldwin Slams Movie Promotion imdb.com Feisty actor Alec Baldwin has infuriated studio executives after bitterly slamming film-related promotional campaigns during an interview. The hunky actor is sick of speaking to journalists about The Last Shot - which centers on a government agent who poses as a Hollywood producer to catch mobsters - and stunned journalists by launching a scathing attack on the Screen Actor's Guild and the studio publicity departments for giving him too many movies to promote. He also accused film chiefs of blaming him if their film flops. He complained, "The problem is that most of the marketing that's done now means 'let's get the actor out there to charge up the hill and if you get shot to pieces you get shot to pieces'. Get out there and do Letterman, Good Morning America , these tiresome tedious rounds of promotional things to raise the awareness again in a very crowded marketplace to call attention to your film. It's a bad, bad situation when there are just so many movies out there right now, which is ridiculous. Actors are treated like suppositories that are inserted into cavities of the movie- going public."
