    Martha Stewart

Martha Compares Self to Nelson Mandela Monday Jul 19, 2004 8:00am EST By Stephen M. Silverman people.com Facing tough questioning from Barbara Walters on Friday ? the same day a federal judge sentenced her to five months in prison ? a stoic Martha Stewart declared: "Many good people have gone to prison. Look at (South African hero) Nelson Mandela." While many critics seized upon comment to blast Stewart, the domestic diva also managed to surprise the generally unflappable Walters during the ABC interview. "Martha, you are too much," said Walters after Stewart, who is known for her painstaking attention to detail, admitted that she has done absolutely no research whatsoever into prison life. (Stewart remains free on bail pending the appeal of her case, stemming from a stock sale she made in 2001.) "I could do it," Stewart, 62, finally said about serving time. "I'm a really good camper. I can sleep on the ground." Stewart balked when Walters brought up the issue of strip searches, telling the journalist: "I don't think in a minimum security prison there will be strip searches." "Oh, yes," insisted Walters. "Maybe I'm uninformed," Stewart said. By contrast, the domestic diva ? who appeared to make light of how difficult it was to accept the fact she's a convicted felon ? smiled and grew positively animated when she started describing details of the upcoming issues of her magazine, Martha Stewart Living. Several times during the interview, such as when Walters asked Stewart about altering a message in her telephone-log book, Stewart declined to respond, citing the fact that her case is on appeal. In addition to her five-month prison sentence, Stewart will also get five months of home confinement and two years' supervised probation.

Lol, you crack me up. How about instead of sending Martha to jail, we make her wear britney outfits for 5 months instead. As long as Martha is sentenced to whatever any other blow-joe would be sentenced to is fine with me. They caught her, just because they haven't caught people that are worse then her yet doesn't mean they should go easy on her.

    Jada Pinkett-Smith & Will Smith

Zap2It.com gossip I, SEX-BOT Will Smith has told us he could never go Full Monty, even though he's naked in his first scene of "I, Robot," because he's "not that good an actor," but he also admits that keeping in shape has vastly improved his sex life with wife Jada Pinkett. His "Matrix" wife hit the gym for her high-action role, just like he did for his "Ali" role, and it set sparks in their bedroom to such an extent that he works out even after a 12-hour day on the set. "Jada saw me and got so jealous that she went to the gym the next day," Smith tells us. He calls the guys who are "after" his wife "Thundercats" and the young girls who ogle him out in public are "Thunderkittens."

    Johnny Depp

JOHNNY DEPP: NEW LORD OF THE MANOR!July 15, 2004 Provided by: [star Online]We already knew Johnny Depp was a Francophile, and now it's safe to call him an Anglophile too. Depp, 41, fell for a $4.7 million Georgian estate in picturesque Rye, East Sussex, during a trip to the U.K. in May, says a source. Depp famously ditched Hollywood a few years ago for a quieter life in France with his French actress girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, 31, and their two children, Lily Rose, 5, and Jack, 2. Now it is believed Depp will buy the three-story, seven-bedroom English mansion, complete with a pool on 45 acres of land. "Rye would be wellsuited for Mr. Depp," says a source. "I understand he has a fondness for traditional England, and it is almost as though Rye is stuck in time."There's plenty that Depp likes about the U.K. -- he dated British supermodel Kate Moss, and based his character in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl on Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. So maybe it's high time for Depp to call jolly ol' England home.

    U2

U2'S MASTER CD IS SNATCHED Page Six IT was far from a "Beautiful Day" for U2 Tuesday afternoon when a master copy of their upcoming record was stolen from a photo shoot in Nice. Guitarist The Edge had brought along the master of the CD ? working title, "Vertigo," and due out in November ? to a photo shoot for the album cover so the band could listen to it while they posed. But at some point during the shoot, someone snatched the CD out of the player and ran off with it. On the band's Web site, The Edge reports: "A large slice of two years' work lifted via a piece of round plastic. It doesn't seem credible but that's what's just happened to us . . . and it was my CD." Although there are other copies, band members fear it will end up on the Internet before it's shipped to stores. "The recording of this album has been going so well," Paul McGuinness of Principle Management told the Web site. "The band is so excited about its release. It would be a shame if unfinished work fell into the wrong hands." Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge added: "As the missing CD is our property, we're very keen to find it as soon as possible and the French police are being extremely helpful in this regard."

    Halle Berry

Halle Gets Rubbed Up the Right Way by Lenoimdb.comSexy actress Halle Berry got the ultimate treat from comedian Jay Leno when she paid him a visit on his chat show - a chest rub. The Oscar-winning beauty appeared on the Tonight Show last night with a horsy voice, explaining she was suffering from a cold. So innovative Leno concocted his own series of get well gifts to help Berry through her ailments. He gave her a tissue dispenser in the guise of an Oscar statuette, a bottle of Jack Daniels with a Nyquil cold medicine label on it and a small tub of Jay's Chest-O-Rub. Leno then said of his own brand of Chest-O-Rub, "You need a middle-aged man to apply that directly on the area." As Berry allowed Leno to apply the rub - much to the delight of the audience - she sighed, "It smells good... Thank you so much for caring about me." The funnyman confessed, "You know something? I'm so glad this desk is here right now!" But Berry has been having fun with her husky voice. She told Leno, "This sounds is kinda sexy. I wish my voice would kinda stay like this. I kinda like it. It's good."

    Colin Farrell

Farrell: I'm Not a "Bad Boy" imdb.com Hollywood hunk Colin Farrell has furiously slammed the Los Angeles media for criticizing his "bad language, casual sex" and beer drinking. The A Home at the End of the World star refuses to stop drinking, swearing and fornicating and complains the American media should put his wild lifestyle into perspective by looking at real bad boys like late German dictator Adolf Hitler . Farrell argues, "It doesn't take much to cause a fuss. I got the title already. Just by proxy to Ireland. You're Irish in Los Angeles and you drink a couple of pints and you're considered f***ing edgy. It doesn't take much to be a bad boy. I use bad language and I have casual sex and a few beers and all of a sudden I'm a bad boy. But I know I'm not. Hitler was a bad boy."

    Martha Stewart

Martha Gets 5 Months EOnline.com by Lia Haberman Jul 16, 2004, 7:30 AM PT The grand dame of good things will have to go without for a few months. On Friday morning Martha Stewart was sentenced to five months in jail, five months in home confinement, two years of supervisory probation and was ordered to pay a $30,000 fine following her March 5 felony conviction on charges she lied to the feds about a 2001 stock sale. The domestic doyenne was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements. The sentence has been stayed pending an appeal from Stewart's defense team. Her laywers said perjury charges against a juror and a key government witness would be a part of the appeal, due to filed within the next 10 days. Stewart, dressed in a simple black pantsuit, arrived at a federal court house in Manhattan just after 9 a.m. ET accompanied by her daughter Alexis and her son-in-law. She was greeted by supporters outside and inside the courtroom. Speaking on her behalf before sentencing, Stewart said "Today is a painful day, what started out as a personal matter has spread like oil." She asked the judge to "please consider all the suffering I have experienced over the past two and a half years" and to "remember all the good I have done." According to reporters in the courtroom, Stewart was close to weeping while reading her statement. Once outside, Stewart addressed the press, saying she was not afraid, just "very, very sorry that it's come to this." "Today is a shameful day, it's a shameful for me and for my family and for my beloved company and for all of its employees and partners. What was a small personal matter became over the last two years an almost fatal circus event of unprecedented proportions," said Stewart. "I have been choked and almost suffocated to death during that time all the while more concerned about the well being of others than for myself, more hurt for them and for their losses than for my own, more worried for their futures than the future of Martha Stewart the person. "More than 200 people have lost their jobs at my company as a result of this situation. I want them to know how very, very sorry I am for them and their families. I would like to thank everybody who stood by me, who wished me well, waved to me on the street like these lovely people over here (gestures to cheering crowd), smiled at me, called me, wrote to me. We received thousands of support letters and more than 170,000 e-mails to Marthatalks.com and I appreciate each and every one of those pieces of correspondence. I really feel good about it. ? Martha Stewart: The E! True Hollywood Story From domestic diva to jailbird, E! tells all... Airs: Fri., 8 p.m.; Sat., 1 p.m. ? Watch E! News Live tonight at 7 p.m. for the latest Martha scoop. "Perhaps all of you out there could continue to show your support by subscribing to our magazine, by buying our products, by encouraging our advertisers to come back in full force to our magazines. Our magazines are great, they deserve your support and whatever happens to me personally shouldn't have any effect whatsoever on the great company Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. "And I don't want to use this as a sales pitch for my company but we love that company, we've worked so hard on that company and we really think it merits great attention from the American public. "And I'll be back. I will be back. Whatever I have to do in the next few months, I hope the months go by quickly. I'm used to all kinds of hard work as you know and I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid whatsoever. I'm just very, very sorry that it's come to this, that a small personal matter has been able to be blown out of all proportion and with such venom and such gore, it's just terrible," she concluded. Under federal sentencing guidelines she was expected to spend 10 to 15 months in the slammer. (Her lawyers had argued unsuccessfully to have the guidelines banned.) In a bid to avoid incarceration, Stewart's legal team had pushed for community service coupled with probation and hired a sentencing consultant to match the domestic doyenne with a nonprofit organization where she could serve her time. A letter-writing campaign conducted by Stewart supporters also appealed to the judge for leniency. "Martha Stewart has been an inspiration for women across the nation," wrote four middle-school cooks and a custodian from Springfield, Ohio. Originally scheduled to be sentenced June 17, Stewart managed to delay the date when evidence was uncovered that a government witness repeatedly lied under oath. Secret service ink expert Larry Stewart (no relation to the homemaking maven) was subsequently indicted for fibbing about his role in tests performed on a portfolio worksheet prepared by Stewart's former stockbroker Peter Baconovic. But U.S. District Court Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum was unmoved and rejected Team Stewart's bid for a new trial. (A prior motion to dismiss based on the shady past of one of the jurors was also overruled.) Meanwhile, Stewart has spent her pre-slammer days getting her affairs in order and enjoying her freedom. According to the New York Post, the 62-year-old has unloaded her luxury Greenwich Village duplex (Nicole Kidman and Calvin Klein are neighbors) for around $7 million, making a profit of approximately $1 million. In addition, the New York Times is reporting that Stewart has remained a fixture on the Manhattan social scene in recent days, attending fashion shows, parties and even the New York premiere of Fahrenheit 9/11.

Ben and Jen's relationship - which ended in January - was tarnished by claims long-term pal Damon disapproved of Affleck's choice of partner. But the Bourne Identity star insists he never fell out with either Affleck or Lopez over their relationship. He says, "She was great. I spent four or five afternoons and dinners with them and she was fantastic. She really loved him and he really loved her." Damon adds of his friendship with Affleck - which dates back to their childhoods in Massachusetts - "It's a very old relationship so it's not really conducive of the kind of tabloid stories that want a rocky relationship."

    The Celeb Price of Fame

popbitch.com >> Can I get a witness << "Is that a yes to oral, miss?" 80s drugs might be back but 80s-style wild sex isn't. Male celebrities are rushing to get a Sex Witness in their entourage thanks to high-profile cases like R Kelly and Kobe Bryant. Celebrities are moving to only having one-night stands or groupie sex with a witness in the room to verify that whatever sexual acts are performed are done without coercion. Mike Tyson pioneered this trend (following his well-documented troubles) and careful/worried men, particularly rappers, are following in his footsteps. Imagine if this was the case through rock history? "Excuse me Madam, can you confirm that you agree to the insertion of this fish into your snatch?"

Beyonce Takes Designer Away from Lopez Wednesday Jul 14, 2004 3:55pm EST By Stephen M. Silverman people.com In what's considered a major Seventh Avenue coup, Beyonce has snagged designer Heather Thomson away from Jennifer Lopez's Sweetface Fashion Company, bring her over to the pop star's own ? and as yet unnamed ? label, reports Women's Wear Daily. Thomson's credits also include Sean "P. Diddy" Combs's Sean John line, helping the music entrepreneur step into the fashion arena. J.Lo, whose 3-year-old clothing line is one of the fashion industry's success stories, hired Thomson two years ago for the J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez junior collection. "Heather went somewhere else to work. ... I wish Heather the best," Andy Hilfiger, Sweetface's cofounder and director (and brother of lifestyle wear designer Tommy Hilfiger) confirmed to Women's Wear, which notes that Beyonce, 22, and J.Lo, who turns 34 on Saturday, have been competing on the airwaves and now stand to face off in the retail arena. Lopez's two fragrances, Glow and Still, totaled $200 million in sales last year, and recently Beyonce announced her own fragrance line, in which she is partnered with Tommy Hilfiger. The Beyonce fashion line, which is being developed in partnership with Kids Headquarters (which also handles Timberline and Kenneth Cole, among its labels), is being designed in part by Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, who is said to have been responsible for much of her daughter's personal wardrobe. Beyonce's company had no comment about Thomson.

She's only got a month to go... Is there going to be something that a baby... a baby is born?" That's going to be a tough one to beat. Let's have a big round of applause for our winner.

    Matt Damon and Wife

Matt Damon Helpless at Stopping Bennifer Tuesday Jul 13, 2004 3:00pm EST By Stephen M. Silverman people.cmo CREDIT: RENI VAN MAREN/SUNSHINE/ZUMA Watching the train wreck that was the Ben Affleck-Jennifer Lopez engagement, the actor's friend Matt Damon says, "It was one of those weird situations where there was absolutely nothing you could do." Damon, 33, tells Playboy magazine in its August issue that the perception in some quarters that Bennifer was really nothing but a publicity stunt was wrong. "What (those cynics) never understood was that Ben is too smart not to know that being in that relationship was the worst thing for his career. He stayed in it because he loved her ... he was actually embarrassed by the attention." Damon, whose new movie The Bourne Supremacy opens July 23, says that, as a pal of Affleck's, all he was left to do was "support your friend, support the relationship and talk sh-- about the people who are writing things." Of his own relationship with interior director Luciana Barroso, Damon says, "I'm very happy. ... Casey Affleck, Ben's brother, is about to have a baby, and I saw how everything changed with my brother (Kyle, 37) when his kids came. I want a family someday (though) the long-distance thing is tough." Damon also admits that his first star crush was on Cosby Show star Lisa Bonet ("an absolute knockout") and that he and Affleck both "smoke like freight trains," yet he also claims that neither of them has an addictive personality. As for Affleck's stint in rehab for what was said to have been a drinking problem, Damon says, "Ben made a choice to do something that was extremely preemptive. ... To label him (as an addict) is wrong and just easy and judgmental. He's much more complicated."
