You know, I think people often give someone the Oscar because of a past performance they should have gotten it, but didn't. I think Halle got it for that Dorthoy movie, but since she was passed up that year for Oscar, they gave it to her for Monster's Ball. I liked Monster's Ball and didn't think the chemestry was that bad, but prob not oscar worthy.Look at Russell, he won for Gladiator?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! I think he got it for Gladiator because he was skipped for A Beautiful Mind.

    Prince

Prince Rules the Airwaves EOnline.com by Sarah Hall Apr 26, 2004, 9:30 PM PT Prince is on a quest for network domination. The diminutive funk rocker will take over five channels at once Wednesday, when MTV, MTV2, BET, VH1 and VH1 Classic simultaneously broadcast a 30-minute concert special taped live last week before an audience in New York. The concert features songs from Prince's latest album, Musicology, plus some of his classic hits. "This historic broadcast, going out simultaneously over the five most influential music networks, is a tribute to the music and artistry of one of the most singular talents of our time," said Columbia Records exec Will Botwin. "With a fast-paced combination of brilliant performances and compelling interviews, this show will be remembered as one of the most special entertainment events of the year." Though each of Viacom-owned networks will air the same musical lineup, the broadcasts will feature different interviews with the singer--giving true fans a reason to test the limits of their TiVos. "The support for Musicology is wonderful," Prince said in a statement. "We're pleased to broadcast the Musicology special throughout the Viacom music channels. It is great to see audiences around the country embracing music again." The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is currently on his first major arena tour in six years, promoting Musicology, as well as reportedly performing his best-known body of work live for the last time. That's right--after the tour, the funk legend is reportedly shelving classic hits such as "Purple Rain," "Little Red Corvette," "Raspberry Beret"...and the list goes on. The rationale? He claims he's been "wanting to make room for new music." He wants his fans to make room for new music as well--to that end he's giving each concertgoer a copy of Musicology at the door. Originally touted by the singer as a free CD, tour promoters have revealed that the cost of the album was actually factored into the price of each concert ticket--which ranged in cost from $47 to $75 in most cities. Fans who want to see the show are therefore given no choice about buying the album (albeit at a discounted price). However, judging by strong ticket sales and positive tour reviews, it seems that most are okay with ponying up for the CD. However, some music industry insiders' feathers were ruffled by Nielsen SoundScan's decision last week to count each album passed out as a sold CD. "These were presented to the public as being free CDs, they are handed to people who had no choice in buying them, and that really shouldn't be recognized as the same as the other albums on the chart," one record label executive told the Los Angeles Times last week. The "free" CD strategy is expected to add 400,000 to Prince's sales tally--just 100,000 short of certified gold--and that's not counting the albums he sells at retail. To date, the Grammy-winning artist has sold more than 100 million records over his 20-year career. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month in his first year of eligibility, where his electrifying opening performance proved he's ready to party like it's 2004.

    Halle Berry

Divorce: Berry Split from Benet Final STEPHEN M. SILVERMAN people.com Halle Berry has filed for divorce from her husband of three years, R&B singer Eric Benet, her spokeswoman has announced. Publicist Karen Samfilippo confirmed the filing Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court but declined comment. There are reports that the split is amicable. Last Oct. 1, the actress announced her separation from Benet, saying in a statement: "Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together. "However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time," she added. Berry, 37, was previously married to pro ballplayer David Justice, but the relationship ended in 1996. The instability in her relationship with Benet, also 37, has been well-documented, and at one point her husband was reportedly treated for a sex addiction. Benet also has a young daughter, India, from a previous relationship with a girlfriend who was killed in a car crash 15 months after the girl was born. Berry and Benet reportedly met in 1999 at a party to celebrate the premiere of Berry's HBO movie "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge," for which she went on to win a Golden Globe and an Emmy. She then became the first African-American woman to win a Best Actress Oscar, for her work in 2001's "Monster's Ball." Benet's debut album, "True to Myself," was released in 1996. His hits include "Spend My Life With You" and "Love Don't Love Me."

    Jude Law

Hey Jude -- Let Me In! Jude and Sadie's public tiff. Plus, Jessica's conservative cronies by Kat Giantis MSN Entertainment April 23, 2004 Their marriage may be a thing of the past, but Jude Law and Sadie Frost still share a deep passion -- for squabbling in public. The Daily Mirror reports the former lovebirds, who divorced last October after six years of marriage, recently had "the mother of all bust-ups" outside Jude's London mansion. Sadie, 37, who lives around the corner in the luxury digs they once shared, reportedly turned up at her ex's pad late at night, accompanied by boytoy Jackson Scott, and began banging on the door, demanding to be let in. The reason? There were "things she needed to discuss with him." The "Cold Mountain" looker, 31, who is currently shacking up with his 22-year-old "What's It All About, Alfie?" co-star Sienna Miller, was obviously not eager for a heart-to-heart and refused to open up. Sadie didn't take the shut-out well. "She was screaming and shouting at him and even Jackson was chipping in," an insider blabs to the paper. "It was one of the ugliest arguments they've had for ages." Or at least since last June, when a nanny called the cops after the estranged pair reportedly engaged in a particularly ferocious fracas. No charges were filed. Once Frost, er, chilled out, the regret set in. "Sadie hates the fact that she was washing her dirty laundry in public," says the spy. "[she] feels embarrassed by the whole thing, but as far as she is concerned it wouldn't have ever happened if Jude had let her in." The insider claims the couple's arguments always seem to involve their three kids: "They are both doting parents who want to spend as much time with the children as possible. Naturally, this causes a lot of friction." A lawyer for Law explains to the Mirror, "I can confirm an argument did take place on the steps of Jude's home. But it has now been resolved and everything is working out smoothly."

Natalie, Jackie in World Tour for GoodSTEPHEN M. SILVERMANpeople.comNatalie Portman and Jackie Chan haven't starred in any movies together, but they're both sharing an even larger role when it comes to humanitarian work. On Wednesday, Portman toured charity projects in Uganda and appealed to the international community to help African women fight poverty and the AIDS epidemic ravaging the continent, the Associated Press reports. Actually, the "Star Wars" actress, 22, made her visit on a high note, meeting with local business women in the village of Iganga who have benefited from the Washington-based Foundation for International Community Assistance. "It is amazing and it is an opportunity to see women with such courage and diligence creating money from such little funds," said Portman, dressed in a creased long-sleeved white shirt, faded jeans and brown boots. "It is giving hope. The women are resourceful. And it is amazing that the world is not capitalizing on this resource." Taking the message to another part of the world, action star Chan plans to a three-day humanitarian visit Cambodia starting Monday to promote the work of the United Nations children's and AIDS agencies, the U.N. has announced. Chan, 50, is expected in the capital of Phnom Penh, and in Siem Reap, home to the country's 900-year-old cultural shrine of Angkor Wat. He plans to tour projects focusing on HIV/AIDS, rehabilitation for land mine victims and land mine education, the U.N. says.
