    Martha Stewart

(Zap2it.com)Stewart's Freedom Poncho Sales Skyrocket(Wednesday, September 21 09:38 AM) LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Martha Stewart is celebrating life, liberty and the poncho of happiness.Sales for the hand-knit wrap modeled after the poncho Stewart wore upon her release from Alderson prison in March have become a triumph for the domestic diva. Within 48 hours of the poncho's reappearance on her NBC show "Martha," orders totaling more than $375,000 have sold on her website marthastewart.com. Profits from the sales will benefit families in need and Hurricane Katrina victims."The volume of sales that Martha Stewart has generated with these ponchos is unheard of in our business. She has set a new benchmark for television commerce," says Mike Fitzsimmons, CEO of Delivery Agent, the ecommerce enabler for the site. In a video clip on her site, Stewart says that part of the appeal is that the poncho -- which was made by a fellow inmate as a farewell gift -- looked "loose and free" and indicated that a "bad part of a life had gone away."The acrylic-blend poncho, with hints of alpaca and mohair, sells for $49.99, and comes in blue -- the color of Stewart's own freedom poncho -- and red. House arrest anklet not included.

(MSNBC.COM)Chanel says au revoir to Kate MossFashion powerhouse decides not to renew supermodel's contract Updated: 1:01 p.m. ET Sept. 21, 2005PARIS - Chanel will not renew a contract with Kate Moss that expires in October, but a spokeswoman said Wednesday it had nothing to do with recent publicity about the supermodel's cocaine use."Kate Moss has a contract until the end of October," said Julie Le Blevec, spokeswoman for Chanel perfumes. She added, "We are not planning to stop the advertisements before then."Moss has been the face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle perfume since 2002."The contract was always going to end in October," Le Blevec said. She denied media reports that Chanel was dropping Moss and said the decision was not based on the model's recent acknowledgment of using drugs."It's not about renewing the contract or not. The contract finishes at the end of October and we don't have any projects with her," Le Blevec said.H&M, Europe's largest fashion retailer, said Tuesday it would drop a planned advertising campaign with the 31-year-old model after she acknowledged recently using cocaine.Recent pictures published in Britain's Daily Mirror appeared to show Moss snorting cocaine, prompting London police Wednesday to say they were investigating the allegations.Any decision about charges, London's police chief said, should take account of the impact of the case on young people.Sir Ian Blair, the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, told reporters that he had been involved in the decision to investigate Moss.He said he didn't wish to comment directly on the case, but added: "We have to look at the impact of this kind of behavior on impressionable young people and if there is evidence, something should be done about it."I can remember being asked a question about a previous individual who was given a caution. I think that was a wrong decision."London's police generally investigate drug dealers rather than users, but that policy is "adaptable to the impact of events," Blair said.

    Martha Stewart

(Yahoo.com)Stewart Gets Through Her 'Yale' ExperienceMon Sep 19, 9:13 PM ETMartha Stewart's euphemism for prison was to call it "Yale." She explained her coping mechanism in an appearance Monday on David Letterman's "Late Show" to promote her two new TV shows. The former convict said she accepted her five-month prison sentence for lying to authorities about a stock deal instead of waiting for the appeal because she wouldn't have been able to do her shows with the uncertainty. Stewart's new daytime talk show premiered last week and her prime-time role in "The Apprentice" begins Wednesday. While the prison experience was "pretty horrifying," Stewart said it taught her how strong she was. "I did not allow myself to get depressed," she said. "I did not allow myself to get down too much. I faced what I had to face. I lived through it, actually, with flying colors, if you can live through `Yale' with flying colors." Stewart said she can't remember her first day at the women's federal prison in Alderson, W.Va., at all. "I asked my fellow inmates a couple months later, I said, `How did I behave that first day?' because everyone was watching me," she said. "They said I was walking around in a daze." Stewart said she made many friends there. Her fellow inmates were mostly friendly, although she heard some remarks behind her back. There were no prison yard brawls although authorities were suspicious one day when she fell against a wall. "I slipped on some wet floor and I got a really bad black and blue mark on my arm," she said. She was called in by authorities who "wanted to know who I had been in a fight with," she said.

    Kirstie Alley

(Yahoo.com)`Fat Actress' Kirstie Alley Loses 50 Lbs.Tue Sep 20,11:22 AM ETActress Kirstie Alley has lost 50 pounds. The star of Showtime's reality-comedy series "Fat Actress" says she managed the loss through dieting and exercise. "I am the Jenny Craig evangelist!" Alley, a spokeswoman for the company, declares in the Sept. 26 issue of People magazine, now on newsstands. By limiting calories with the diet program, the 54-year-old actress who had ballooned up to about 200 pounds has slimmed down noticeably and is 30 pounds away from her original goal. "When I got fat, I was being stupid. It was a little bit like when I used to do drugs," says Alley, who has long been sober. "Before I stopped doing drugs, I had to spiritually get a grip and go, `What do you want your life to be like?'" She says the full revelation didn't come until seeing early episodes of "Fat Actress." "I didn't realize I was that fat," the 5-foot-8 actress says. "Seriously." Alley now plans to begin dating again. A mother of two, she divorced Parker Stevenson in 1997. The former "Cheers" actress is interested in another sitcom but doesn't expect Showtime to bring back "Fat Actress" for a second season. "I think (they) have great concerns about me not being fat," she said.

    Oprah Winfrey

(Zap2it.com)Oprah Prompts Hermes' Public Apology for SnubLOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Oprah Winfrey wants to set the record straight. She did not have a hissy fit in June when she was turned away from Hermes merely because she wanted to shop."Shame on anybody for thinking that I was upset for not being able to get into a clothes store and buy a purse," she said on her 20th season premiere. "I was upset because one person at the store was so rude. Not the whole company."The talk show host extraordinaire invited the Hermes USA president and CEO Robert Chavez to the show to clear the air. She ever so sweetly demanded a public apology for the June incident in which an employee turned Oprah and her entourage away from the Paris boutique at closing time even though some shoppers were still inside. "I would like to say we're really sorry," says Chavez "You did meet up with one very, very rigid staff person."With Oprah's prompting, Chavez amended, "Rigid and rude, I am sure."At the time, some speculated that racism, not mere rudeness, was behind the rejection. "Anybody who has been snubbed because you were not chic enough, or not thin enough, or not the right class, or the right color or whatever, I don't know what it was, you know that it is totally humiliating," said Oprah.Ever the dove of peace, she spoke words of forgiveness and encouragement to her viewers, telling them to "wear the Berkin bags. Shop, shop, shop, shop."

    PETA

(MSNBC.COM) Martha Stewart: Unlikely PETA spokesperson Domestic diva corresponded with a PETA vice president while in prison By Jeannette Walls MSNBC Updated: 9:20 a.m. ET Sept. 20, 2005 Martha Stewart has an unlikely new gig: PETA spokeswoman. The home-making guru had recorded a message on behalf of the sometimes controversial animal rights activists, asking people not to wear fur. “I used to wear real fur, but, like many others, I had a change of heart when I learned what actually happens to the animals.” Stewart in a video which debuts Tuesday on http://www.peta.org/. “So much violence in the world seems beyond our control, but this is one cruelty we can stop by being informed consumers.” The negotiations for Stewart’s appearance occurred while the domestic diva was serving time in prison. “I wrote a letter to her asking her if that stole she wore when she was found guilty was real fur and she wrote back that it was fake and that her daughter had really opened her eyes on that whole issue,” PETA VP Dan Mathews tells the Scoop. “We started a correspondence, and she’s been fabulous. She filmed the video last week on the set of her new TV talk show, and then she offered us delicious vegetarian dumplings from a just-completed cooking segment.”

    Halle Berry

(Fox411.com) Halle Berry: No More Men Monday, September 19, 2005 By Roger Friedman Halle Berry Done With Men Oscar winner Halle Berry saved the Emmy weekend. I will tell you how. Much as we love our TV stars, they don't always pack the same punch as movie stars. As Ellen DeGeneres put it last night in her monologue: "We'd all love to have an Oscar. Boy, I'd like to host that show!" In other words: There's only so many times you can ask Ray Romano if he'll miss "Everybody Loves Raymond." (The answer, if you couldn't guess, is "yes.") So there was Berry, just being beautiful, at Entertainment Weekly's over-the-top, swell party on Saturday night at the Cabana Club. She came with her manager, Vincent Cirrincione, and his wife, no publicist, mostly because Revlon was a sponsor, and sat in a booth with a minimum of overt security. Over the course of a couple of hours, she greeted Glenn Close, Frankie Muniz from "Malcolm in the Middle," Fran Drescher and a variety of famous guests. She was completely accessible. At the HBO party last night, there she was again, again with Cirrincione, dynamo publicist Karen Samfilippo and a few friends. She was, however, without a date. So what's the story, I asked, baiting her a little bit? "I'm done with men," she said, laughing a little ruefully. "I'm going to be alone. I have no luck with relationships. I don't think I'm made for marriage." Berry starts shooting "Perfect Stranger" in January with Bruce Willis, but don't expect anything to happen there besides work. "He had his chance," she joked. "He was living next door to me for a while in Malibu. But he's gone now." More importantly: Halle will be developing and producing her own projects from now on, instead of taking big commercial projects — like "Catwoman" — that do her career no good. She has good instincts, too: her "Dorothy Dandridge" HBO movie was a huge critical success and launched this chapter of her hot career; she produced HBO's award-winning film "Lackawanna Blues" and was nominated for an Emmy for her role in "Their Eyes Were Watching God. So what will she date next, women? Maybe she shouldn't date men in the business, or on the DL(Down-Low)?

(Foxnews.com)Oprah: Hermes Beef Just With One Worker Monday, September 19, 2005By Jesse Lanier NEW YORK — Media mogul Oprah Winfrey (search) addressed publicly for the first time Monday the highly publicized incident at the Paris Hermes (search) boutique where she was allegedly snubbed by employees. In front of her television audience, Oprah held up a stack of tabloid reports of the incident and said that they were almost all completely false.Winfrey emphatically rejected the widely circulated-theory that her beef with the store was rooted in their refusal to re-open it for her. She went on to say that she was smart enough to be able to tell the difference between a store being closed and a store being closed to her.Recounting the incident, she said that the store was in the process of closing, but that there was still a bustle of business inside.According to Oprah, one "rude" employee caused the ruckus by making her and some of her friends wait in the entrance of the store for permission to enter.Oprah took special care to say that her anger at the situation was directed at the female employee and not at the Hermes company. To wrap up all of the speculation over the incident, the president of the U.S. division of Hermes appeared on the show.He offered a hearty apology for the actions of the impolite employee, saying, "Honestly, she did not know who you were."In response, Oprah thanked him for his "heartfelt" apology and said she "was not trying to play that celebrity card."She closed the subject by encouraging fans who had been boycotting Hermes' famous Birkin bag to "wear" the bag if they wanted to.
