Hermione would not approve: Emma Watson announces she is taking time off from university to focus on acting and fashion By Andrea Magrath 9th March 2011 She became a household name playing extraordinarily intelligent bookworm Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise. But Emma Watson has made a decision that her alter ego would certainly not approve of - she is postponing her studies at Brown university in Rhode Island to focus on her career. The 20-year-old star made the announcement on her website today, telling fans that juggling the two has become 'a little impossible'. She wrote: 'I've decided to take a bit of time off to completely finish my work on Harry Potter [the last one comes out this summer] and to focus on my other professional and acting projects. 'I will still be working towards my degree... it’s just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought. 'As you know, I love Brown and I love studying pretty much more than anything but recently I've had so much to juggle that being a student AND fulfilling my other commitments has become a little impossible.' Emma jetted back into Heathrow from the U.S. last week, and was also in London throughout the Bafta party season last month. Brown university is currently in the middle of its semester, which runs from January 26 to May 29, with a spring recess later this month. Emma's London spokesperson declined to elaborate on whether the actress has already pulled out of classes or if the break will commence after this term wraps up. However judging by her current jetsetting, the former is more likely. Fashion career: Emma recently released her most recent People Tree collection, and she just announced a collaboration with designer Alberta Ferretti Emma is busy working on a number of fashion projects before she turns her attention to the Harry Potter promotion trail in the summer. Last week she announced a new collaboration with designer Alberta Ferretti. The line, called Pure Threads by Emma Watson Alberta Ferretti, is eco-friendly, like her People Tree collections. The Italian designer revealed why she chose the gamine star to join forces with. 'She’s an actress I’ve followed since her early days,' she told Women's Wear Daily. 'I like her freshness, her spontaneity and simplicity.' Miss Watson added: 'I believe this is a big step forward for all of the international fashion industry, but also an important step for an increased sensitivity to the problem of ecology.' Huckabee denies criticizing Portman pregnancy Former Arkansas governor accuses 'Hollywood media' of distorting comments By ANDREW DeMILLO The Associated Press updated 3/4/2011 LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Friday denied that he was criticizing Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman when he suggested her pregnancy was glamorizing the idea of having children outside of marriage. Huckabee, who is considering a run for the Republican presidential nomination, earlier this week complained about the perception of celebrities like Portman having children while unmarried. Portman, who won an Oscar for best actress for her role in "Black Swan," is expecting a child with fiance Benjamin Millepied. "One of the things that is troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine,'" Huckabee told radio host Michael Medved on Monday. "But there aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie." Huckabee made the comments after Medved mentioned the Oscars and Portman's pregnancy. Huckabee said the public wasn't seeing the financial struggles single mothers face. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has said he is seriously considering a run for president. Huckabee also said in the interview that "it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-children wedlock." A publicist for Portman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. On Friday, Huckabee accused the "Hollywood media" of distorting comments that he said were more about society as a whole and not Portman. Huckabee praised Portman as an actress and said he's glad she and Millepied are getting married. Huckabee said he wasn't trying to attack Portman or single mothers. "My comments were about the statistical reality that most single moms are very poor, under-educated, can't get a job and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death," Huckabee said in a statement posted on his political action committee's website. "That's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that society often glorifies and glamorizes the idea of having children out of wedlock." It's the second time this week that Huckabee has stepped back from comments he's made while promoting his new book. Huckabee suggested in a radio interview on Monday that President Barack Obama's childhood in Kenya shaped his worldview — even though Obama did not visit Kenya until he was in his 20s. Obama's grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, was detained in a 1952 uprising against British colonial rule in Kenya. Huckabee said childhood stories of the Mau Mau rebellion would lead President Obama to want to remove from the Oval Office the bust of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who ordered a crackdown against that uprising. The executive director of Huckabee's political action committee later said the former governor misspoke and meant to reference Obama's childhood in Indonesia, where he lived from the ages of 5 to 10. He didn't explain the reason Huckabee mentioned the Mau Mau uprising. The winner of the Iowa caucuses in 2008, Huckabee has said he's seriously considering another run for president. His national book tour schedule includes stops in Iowa and other early GOP contests. Huckabee's comments on Portman echoed remarks Dan Quayle made in 1992 when he went after the TV series "Murphy Brown" by saying its depiction of a single mother was irresponsible and set a bad example for America. The Republican vice president said the fictional character was "mocking the importance of fathers by bearing a child alone and calling it just another 'lifestyle choice.'" Mike Huckabee slams Natalie Portman for pregnancy 'It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize ... out-of- wedlock children,' politician says Matt Sayles / AP She won over the Academy, but Natalie Portman doesn't have a fan in presidential prospect Mike Huckabee. The former Arkansas governor and Fox News Channel host attacked the best actress winner, 29, who's currently expecting her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied. "People see a Natalie Portman who boasts, 'we're not married but we're having these children and they're doing just fine," Huckabee told radio host Michael Medved on his show Monday. "I think it gives a distorted image. It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of- wedlock children." Calling Portman's pregnancy "troubling," Huckabee went on to say that many single parents don't have the resources to hire help, the way someone like the Black Swan star would. "Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care," he said. "And that's the story that we're not seeing." In her acceptance speech Sunday night, Portman thanked Millepied, saying he gave her "the most important role" in her life. Medved quipped back that Millepied "didn't give her the most wonderful gift, which would be a wedding ring!" Copyright 2011 Us Weekly

New 'Blade Runner' movies on the way? Alcon Entertainment is looking to acquire the rights to produce prequels and sequels to the 1982 cult classic "Blade Runner," according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trade paper reports that the company is in final negotiations to potentially create a franchise around the movie, which was based on Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep." It was director Ridley Scott's follow-up to the box office smash "Alien," but it was considered a box office bomb at the time, only grossing $27.6 million, according to Boxofficemojo.com. In 1992, a Director's Cut - which removed the narration from star Harrison Ford, among other things - hit theaters, and the movie has since been considered one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. A "Final Cut" was released on DVD and Blu-Ray in 2007, the same year that the American Film Institute ranked it in its list of the 100 best films. The more recent cuts especially left the resolution of the story up in the air, so this is probably not the first time a sequel has been pondered by fans and Hollywood execs alike. In a statement to THR, Alcon Entertainment's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said, "We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium." What do you think of this idea? Are you excited to see more "Blade Runner" or should the original stand on its own? Would you like to see Harrison Ford or Sean Young return to their roles?

‘Up’ shakes off ‘The Hangover’ at box office Animated flick earns $44.2 million but bachelor-party comedy close second msnbc.com LOS ANGELES - Two live-action comedies were unable to bring down the animated adventure “Up.” Disney and Pixar Animation’s “Up” reeled in $44.2 million to remain on top of the box office for the second weekend in a row, according to studio estimates Sunday. The Warner Bros. bachelor-bash comedy “The Hangover” came in a close second with a $43.3 million debut. Will Ferrell’s action comedy for Universal, “Land of the Lost,” had to settle for a distant third with a $19.5 million opening. “Up” was the first movie of Hollywood’s busy summer season to take the No. 1 spot for two straight weekends. But overall revenues fell for the second weekend in a row, putting the brakes on what has been shaping up as a record revenue year for the movie business. The top 12 movies took in $164 million, down 6 percent from the same weekend last year, when “Kung Fu Panda” opened on top with $60.2 million, according to box-office figures compiled by Hollywood.com. For the year, Hollywood has taken in $4.3 billion, up 12.5 percent from 2008 revenues. But studios have been unable to maintain the red-hot pace of the year’s first four months. “Definitely, things have slowed,” said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. “But there are some potential saviors on the horizon.” Three big sequels — “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” — open within three weeks of one another starting June 24. With $137.3 million in the bank after just 10 days, “Up” is streaking toward the $200 million mark achieved by such previous Pixar hits as “WALL-E,” “Ratatouille,” “Cars” and “Toy Story 2.” Revenues for most big movies typically drop 50 percent or more in the second weekend, but the audience for “Up” was down only 35 percent from its opening. That puts it in line with “Finding Nemo,” the top-grossing Disney-Pixar animated tale, said Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney. “Up” likely will finish in the top three among Pixar flicks, Viane said. Leading the Pixar slate now are “Finding Nemo” with $339.7 million, “The Incredibles” with $261.4 million and “Monsters, Inc.” with $255.8 million. “The Hangover” features Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis as pals on a wild Las Vegas bachelor party, during which they misplace the groom (Justin Bartha) and run into all manner of misadventures. Estimated ticket sales for June 5-7 1. “Up,” $44.2 million. 2. “The Hangover,” $43.3 million. 3. “Land of the Lost,” $19.5 million. 4. “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” $14.7 million. 5. “Star Trek,” $8.4 million. 6. “Terminator Salvation,” $8.2 million. 7. “Drag Me to Hell,” $7.3 million. 8. “Angels & Demons,” $6.5 million. 9. “My Life in Ruins,” $3.2 million. 10. “Dance Flick,” $2 million. Warner Bros. had expected “The Hangover” to finish at No. 3 behind “Up” and “Land of the Lost.” But the movie found a broad audience split almost evenly between men and women and those over and under 25, said Dan Fellman, Warner head of distribution. “Sunday’s always good for a hangover,” Fellman said. “The Hangover” was directed by Todd Phillips, whose 2003 comedy “Old School” featured a breakout role for Ferrell. Yet Ferrell had one of his weaker openings with “Land of the Lost,” inspired by the 1970s children’s TV show about adventurers hurled back to an age of dinosaurs. Ferrell’s new twist generally was trashed by critics as a crude update. Sony’s “Angels & Demons” took in $6.5 million domestically and $22.3 million overseas to hit $409 million overall, the first 2009 release to cross the $400 million mark worldwide. In narrower release, Fox Searchlight’s romantic comedy “My Life in Ruins” had a so-so debut of $3.2 million, coming in at No. 9. The movie stars Nia Vardalos (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding”) as a discontented tour guide in Greece who unexpectedly finds love. Focus Features’ road-trip romp “Away We Go” had a strong opening in limited release, pulling in $143,260 in four theaters for a healthy average of $35,815 a cinema. That compares to an average of $11,588 in 3,818 theaters for “Up,” $13,238 in 3,269 cinemas for “The Hangover,” $5,545 in 3,521 locations for “Land of the Lost” and $2,771 in 1,164 theaters for “My Life in Ruins.” “Away We Go,” starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph as a couple searching out the best place in North America to raise a family, was directed by Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”). The film expands to more theaters Friday. © 2009 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

After Charlie Sheen's Rant, CBS Pulls Plug on Two and a Half Men By: Glen Levy In the words of CBS and Warner Bros., due to the "totality of Charlie Sheen's statements, conduct and condition," production has ceased on the top-rated sitcom Two and a Half Men. The 45-year old Sheen, who seems to be doing his best impression of how to spectacularly end a career in showbiz, gave a bizarre and incoherent radio interview with Alex Jones in which he tore into his executive producer Chuck Lorre and other targets such as Alcoholics Anonymous, calling it a "bootleg cult" with a 5% success rate, compared to his own "100%" success rate. Going down the same path that some would say was already taken by Mel Gibson, Sheen's spleen seemed to carry elements of anti-semitism. "There's something this side of deplorable that a certain Chaim Levine -- yeah, that's Chuck's real name -- mistook this rock star for his own selfish exit strategy, bro. Check it, Alex: I embarrassed him in front of his children and the world by healing at a pace that his unevolved mind cannot process." But Sheen wasn't done. "Last I checked, Chaim, I spent close to the last decade effortlessly and magically converting your tin cans into pure gold. And the gratitude I get is this charlatan chose not to do his job, which is to write," he said. While Lorre had no comment on either Sheen's remarks or the production shutting down, the increasingly erratic Sheen would not go quietly. In what the website TMZ dubbed an "open letter," Sheen called Lorre a "contaminated little maggot" and wished the producer "nothing but pain." He also wants his fans to start a protest movement for him, which may be difficult considering that he could be down to single figures on that front. "I urge all my beautiful and loyal fans who embraced this show for almost a decade to walk with me side-by-side as we march up the steps of justice to right this unconscionable wrong," he wrote. Because of the already existing hiatus in the schedule due to Sheen's rehab for reported drug and alcohol abuse, there were only going to be 20 episodes rather than the usual 24 in a season. This will now become 16, which is an additional headache the network could have done without. "It may be lonely up here but I sure like the view, Alex," said Sheen. At this rate, Sheen may need to get used to spending a lot more time by himself. Read more: http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/02/25/after-.../#ixzz1F1bsdYzN

Sheen blasts 'Men' creator after show's shutdown By Anna Chan, TV Editor "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen has responded in an open letter after CBS and Warner Bros. Television decided to shut down production of the hit sitcom. The move by the companies was in response to the actor's rant against show creator Chuck Lorre during a Thursday radio interview and later to TMZ. Sheen gave his letter to TMZ, which reads: What does this say about (Chuck Lorre) after he tried to use his words to judge and attempt to degrade me. I gracefully ignored this folly for 177 shows ... I fire back once and this contaminated little maggot can't handle my power and can't handle the truth. I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon. Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words -- imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists. Report: 'Two and a Half Men' shuts down for the season By Anna Chan, TV Editor Uh oh. Looks like Charlie Sheen's wild radio rant on "The Alex Jones Show" Thursday is having a really negative impact. Gossip site TMZ.com reports that the hit CBS show is immediately stopping production for the rest of the season, even though Sheen was originally scheduled to return to the set next week. "Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen's statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of 'Two and a Half Men' for the remainder of the season," the network said in a statement. In case you missed it, the troubled actor said some pretty nasty things on Jones' show. He called "Two and a Half Men" creator Chuck Lorre a "turd" and made it clear that he didn't think the wildly popular show could survive without him. "Do what you're gonna do -- I'll go make movies," he said in the interview. But that's not all. Sheen continued his rant by making a few comments to TMZ: "I violently hate (Lorre)," the actor said. "He's a stupid, stupid little man and a (expletive) punk that I'd never want to be like. That's me being polite."

Is Kathy Griffin Dating...the Old Spice Guy?! Wed., Feb. 23, 2011 2:50 PM PST by Marc Malkin and Brett Malec Looks like Kathy Griffin may be spicing up her life. I'm told that the outspoken funnylady has been spending some serious time with—ready for this?—Isaiah Mustafa. Yup, the Old Spice Guy! Have things actually turned romantic between the two? Read on to find out... A source tells me that Griffin and Mustafa first met months ago. Maybe it was back in August at the Creative Arts Emmys, where they did a joint interview on the red carpet with our own Kristin Dos Santos? Not longer after that, Griffin tweeted a pic of the two of them with the post reading, "A gift from me 2 u. Here I am with the super hot Old Spice Guy. Feel free to photoshop ur face over mine." Our source says they started spending more time together within the last month or so. The source wouldn't describe the relationship as "romantic," but says, "They're getting to know each other." Mustafa's rep tells me, "Isaiah said they are just good friends and have a blast hanging out." The former football player was most recently linked to Scream star Neve Campbell. Mustafa was not only spotted at Griffin's Trevor Project benefit concert in L.A. in December, but the two were also together earlier this month at Cher's final performance of her Las Vegas show. I actually saw them at the Sin City airport the following morning hopping on a flight back to L.A. Mustafa was also with Griffin at the Grammys last week. Then last night, they were spotted sitting together and chatting at the Costume Designer Guild Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Wonder what Griffin's Alaska pal Levi Johnston thinks about all this. Read more: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/marc_malki...l#ixzz1EtaTBlzv

Judge to Lindsay Lohan: 'You will be going to jail' if case is settled February 23, 2011 | 9:33 am Judge Keith Schwartz said Wednesday at Airport Courthouse that he will send actress Lindsay Lohan to jail if she accepts a deal offered by prosecutors. Although terms of that deal were not immediately made public, Schwartz said Lohan would have to plead guilty or no contest to charges. Prosecutors have alleged that she stole a necklace from a Venice jewelry store. "This case does involve jail time -- period," Schwartz said. "If you plead in front of me -- if this case resolves in front of me -- you are going to jail. Period. It may be an issue as to amount of time." Schwartz said that if Lohan rejects the offer the case will be set for a preliminary hearing in front of another judge. She must decide by her next court date on March 10. Schwartz said he plans to treat Lohan like any other "John Doe" or "Jane Doe." He did say that he suspects Lohan and her attorney, Shawn Holley, will reject the prosecution's offer. The last time Lohan appeared before Schwartz, he had warned her not to push her luck. "You're no different than anyone else," Schwartz said at the time. "If you violate the law, I will remand you and set no bail, and your attorney won't be successful this time." Lohan has been charged with stealing a $2,500 necklace from a Venice jewelry store. The felony grand theft charges are by far the most serious she's faced, and if convicted, could bring her significant jail time. Lohan has pleaded not guilty. Law enforcement sources told The Times that the case against Lohan includes store surveillance video showing the actress wearing the necklace. Paparazzi photos taken days later also show the actress wearing the necklace. The case file also includes statements from people who were inside the store at the same time as Lohan, said the sources, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because the case was ongoing. Lohan has been in and out of court and rehab over the last two years. She spent three months at the rehab center in Rancho Mirage under orders from Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox, who spared the actress jail time in October after Lohan had tested positive for drugs while on probation in a DUI case. If she is convicted in the necklace theft, she would serve jail time for that crime and also be eligible for additional detention for violating her probation. Riverside County prosecutors said they are still considering whether to file charges against her for allegedly shoving an employee at the Betty Ford clinic last year. The employee reported that Lohan had assaulted her but has since said she does not want to press charges.

Lindsay Lohan cited for speeding Monday in West Hollywood [updated] February 23, 2011 | 8:38 am Lindsay Lohan, whose court troubles have been well-documented, had another brush with the law Monday in West Hollywood. [updated at 10:52 a.m.: An earlier version of this post had Lohan getting the ticket Sunday at 9 p.m.:] The "Mean Girls" and "Herbie Fully Loaded" star was in the 400 block of San Vicente Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. when L.A. County sheriff's deputies clocked her going nearly double the speed limit -- 59 mph in a 30 mph zone, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore. It was not immediately clear what Lohan was doing in the neighborhood, but she was cooperative and cited for speeding, Whitmore said. Lohan was scheduled to appear at the Airport Courthouse on Wednesday for a hearing in connection with the alleged theft of a $2,500, "one-of-a-kind" necklace from a Venice jewelry store.

D.A.'s Offer: Six Months in Jail for Lindsay 41 minutes ago by TMZ Staff Sources connected with the Lindsay Lohan case tell TMZ ... the offer Deputy D.A. Danette Meyers made to Lindsay's lawyer in chambers was SIX MONTHS in jail. Judge Keith Schwartz said in open court he had a feeling Shawn Holley would pass on the D.A.'s offer. That's because Lindsay will not accept jail time -- at least not now. But here's why we're almost positive Lindsay will eventually cop a plea. She is going to jail no matter what. The judge ruled Lindsay's preliminary hearing and probation violation case will be heard at the same time. At the end of the preliminary hearing, if the judge feels it's more likely than not that she stole the necklace, Lindsay will be thrown in jail immediately while she awaits trial on the grand theft case. So even if Lindsay is ultimately found not guilty at trial, she'll still be in jail for the probation violation. Short story ... it's likely Holley will plead guilty or no contest on behalf of her client, and then hope the judge gives Lindsay less than 6 months.

Judge to Lindsay: If You Plead, You're Going to Jail 6 minutes ago by TMZ Staff Lindsay Lohan just got the word from the judge -- if she accepts a plea bargain, she WILL go to jail. TMZ broke the story this morning ... the judge will throw Lindsay in jail if she accepts a plea bargain. Judge Keith Schwartz told the famous defendant bluntly, "I don't care that you're Lindsay Lohan." Judge Schwartz did not say how much jail time Lindsay would do if she cops a plea. And, Judge Schwartz wants a psychological evaluation that will help him understand what makes Lindsay tick and what particular sentence is appropriate. The judge explained ... if Lindsay pleads guilty or no contest, it will be an automatic admission she violated her probation. And the judge announced what TMZ first reported ... Deputy D.A. Danette Meyers made a formal offer to settle the case. Lindsay's lawyer, Shawn Holley, will noodle over the offer before deciding, but the judge indicated Lindsay's probably not going to accept the D.A.'s offer. As we reported, Meyers wants significant jail time. If Lindsay doesn't accept a plea, she'll stand trial and if she's found guilty she could get 1 year in state prison. Lindsay is back in court on March 10. She has the option of pleading guilty and basically throwing herself at the court's mercy.

Dina Lohan opens up on Lindsay's 'lifelong struggle' Actress' mom said she knew 'early on' that daughter had addiction issues Dina Lohan told ABC's "20/20" on Friday that Lindsay is facing “a lifelong struggle with addiction,” but she believes her daughter no longer drinks. Access Hollywood Access Hollywood updated 2/18/2011 5:35:24 PM ET 2011-02-18T22:35:24 Dina Lohan embarked on a media blitz on Friday, opening up in a series of interviews about daughter Lindsay Lohan and what she says is her daughter’s “lifelong struggle with addiction.” Despite her continual legal issues, Dina feels that her 24-year-old daughter has turned a corner in her life. Dina Lohan embarked on a media blitz on Friday, opening up in a series of interviews about daughter Lindsay Lohan and what she says is her daughter’s “lifelong struggle with addiction.” “Betty Ford was life changing for all of us. I mean, I’ve put her in a couple of rehabs over the years, and, you know, it’s not about the rehab, it’s about where she is personally in her sobriety and her growth. She’s matured considerably,” Dina told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday. Dina revealed that she’s uncertain how Lindsay will fare against her felony grand theft charge, where she’s accused of stealing a necklace from a jewelry store. “I’m not convinced about anything because the system is the system. I’m a firm believer in the system, but anything can happen, especially in [Hollywood],” she said. In a separate interview with Chris Cuomo on “20/20,” airing Friday night, Dina said Lindsay is facing “a lifelong struggle with addiction,” but she believes her daughter no longer drinks. “I think she’s gonna be OK,” she said in the interview airing Friday at 10 PM on ABC. “She’s a young girl struggling. You know, she’s not perfect. … She’s learning as she goes, but she’s learning under a microscope, so I can’t even imagine how that is.” According to Dina, Lindsay’s problems began in 2004 when she moved to Los Angeles. “I knew early on, I just didn’t tell anyone about it. It was a personal situation,” she continued. “I saw it visually, what was happening. You know, I’m around my children. I was around Lindsay a lot, and I saw what was happening. Justin Bieber On Health Care: U.S. System 'Evil' First Posted: 02/16/11 09:51 AM Updated: 02/16/11 10:04 AM Justin Bieber has taken the United States by storm, but if he gets sick, he may find himself retreating back to Canada -- and not just for the home-cooked meals. Bieber, a 16-year old popstar who was nominated for two Grammys and saw his bio movie make $30 million this weekend, covers the new issue of Rolling Stone. In addition to talking the usual trappings of fame -- the music, the tour stories, the girls -- the magazine asked him to wade a bit into the political waters. At least on one major issue, he already has a fully formed opinion. Asked if he wanted to become an American citizen, Bieber made clear his love for Canada -- and its health care system. "You guys are evil," he told the magazine, out on February 18th. "Canada's the best country in the world. We go to the doctor and we don't need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you're broke because of medical bills. My bodyguard's baby was premature, and now he has to pay for it. In Canada, if your baby's premature, he stays in the hospital as long as he needs to, and then you go home." It's a surprisingly astute observation for the a 16-year old superstar singer, whose life mainly consists of recording, touring, appearing and otherwise working. But then, few 16-year olds have met President Obama, something Bieber has done twice, including at the White House Easter Egg Roll. He has Obama daughters Sasha and Malia to thank for that. But while the point is moot because he doesn't plan to vote in the United States, his health care stance and chumminess with the President don't necessarily make him a sideline supporter of the Democratic party. "I'm not sure about the parties," he said. "But whatever they have in Korea, that's bad." So at least he's not for dictatorships. There is at least one issue that he tacts to the right on: abortion. "I really don't believe in abortion. It's like killing a baby?" And as for extenuating circumstances, such as rape? "Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that." The stance should come as no surprise, as Bieber was raised by a very religious born-again Christian mother, Pattie Mallette, and has not been afraid to share his beliefs with fans.

    Celebrity Feuds

Barbra Streisand regrets 'Glee' remark Barbra Streisand was among the performers and presenters at Sunday's Grammy Awards. By Ree Hines Stand down, Gleeks. Despite Barbra Streisand’s seemingly dismissive comments last week, the living legend insists she doesn’t have a problem with the hit song and dance show. On Friday, Streisand responded to the question of whether or not she would ever appear on “Glee” by stating, “Not if I can help it." But by Sunday, Babs was singing a different tune. “When asked if I would ever appear on ‘Glee,’ I should have said, ‘You never know.’ It was wrong to say, ‘Not if I can help it,” Streisand explained on her website. “What I meant was that I’ve been overwhelmed preparing for my performance on MusiCares, the Grammys, recording a new album, and starting a new movie. So I couldn’t take on any more work, and besides that, I wasn’t asked. (Note to “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy: ask her already!) In addition to clearing up the earlier statement, Streisand went on to praise the show that so often references her work. “I’m so honored that a lead character on ‘Glee’ (Rachel Berry) is so admiring of my work,” Streisand said. “In my speech at MusiCares, I thanked them ‘for exposing young people to music they might otherwise not hear today: Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, and Darren Criss…you’re all so gifted.’”

    Jennifer Aniston

I agree wholeheartedly, but I'd respect her a hell of a lot more if she'd just own that stance publically. In her interview on The View yesterday, she said no to kids and said she hasn't dated anyone in a year. ETA: That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if she shows up tomorrow with a secret husband and batch of kids. There is a lot of contradiction in Hollywood. I can't recall her ever really commenting publicly on any of this in a proactive way. I think the media beats the crap out of her because of her single, dumpee status, and contrast that to Brad and his sick situation. I imagine she wishes people would STOP talking about it. I'm sure she would like to find love again, and it can't be fun having all of your bad dating decisions mocked. We've all had them. I didn't get married until I was 35, so, yes, Bobby, I did feel the "what's wrong with her" vibe, and it is hurtful. But yes, I did/do look at men in the same way. That being said, there is a big difference in the perception of the carefree bachelor versus the desperate old maid. Well, I see a lot of women are doing a heck of a good job of being carefree bachelorette's these days. At the least that's the perception. Jen STILL comments on Brad in the media (I just posted an article of her discussing meeting Perez Hilton and how she STILL communicates with Brad). She can do something about that and request interviewers never bring it up or even decline to answer questions about him. I know that for certain, because publicists of celebs dictate what can or cannot be discussed whenever an actor or actress is doing press for a movie.
