  1. NEWS/ Prison Break Star Wentworth Miller Comes Out As Gay

by Marc Malkin Today 2:47 PM PDT

Wentworth Miller has come out as gay.

The Prison Break star decided it was time to publicly reveal his sexuality after being invited to attend a film festival in Russia.

"Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes," Wentworth, 41, says in a letter to Maria Averbakh, director of the St. Petersburg International Film Festival. "However, as a gay man, I must decline.

"I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government," he continued in the letter, posted on GLAAD's website. "The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.

He also said "if circumstances improve, I'll be free to make a different choice."

GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz praised Miller's actions.

"Wentworth's bold show of support sends a powerful message to LGBT Russians: you are not alone," Cruz said. "As people from across the globe continue to speak out against this horrific law, more celebrities and corporations should follow his courageous lead in openly condemning Russia's anti-LGBT law."

  2. 'Glee' star Cory Monteith checks into rehab

"Glee" actor Cory Monteith, who's portrayed Finn Hudson on the Fox comedy since it began in 2009, has checked into rehab.

A rep tells CNN that the 30-year-old has voluntarily entered a treatment facility for substance addiction.

"He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery," Monteith's rep says in a statement.

Monteith has been frank about his struggles with substance abuse, telling Parade magazine in 2011 that he began using drugs at 13, and by 19 went into rehab after his mother and friends intervened.

"I’m lucky on so many counts - I’m lucky to be alive," Monteith said at the time. "I had a serious problem."

As Monteith's present efforts at recovery have become public, his girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele is standing behind him. The 26-year-old actress, who began publicly dating Monteith in 2012, tweeted on Sunday that she's feeling "so grateful."

"I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this," she added to People magazine. "I am grateful and proud that he made this decision."

Monteith, it seems, is feeling the same gratitude.

"uch a beautiful day!" he tweeted on March 28. "Truly seeing the forest for the trees. #gratitude"

New romance? ... Jake Gyllenhaal and Katie Holmes

    By ALISON MALONEY

KATIE Holmes is dating a new Hollywood action man, according to reports she is seeing actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Tom Cruise's ex-wife, 34, is rumoured to be dating the Brokeback Mountain hunk, 32.

The couple have shared several romantic dinners in New York in recent weeks, including a date at his apartment, after they were brought together by Katie’s former Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson.

Ladies’ man Jake – whose previous girlfriends include Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon and Kirsten Dunst – has been to see Katie’s Broadway show, Dead Account.

A source said: "Josh has been the mastermind behind this romance.

“Katie says that they have tons in common and Jake has already been to see her in Dead Accounts, plus she has been over to his apartment in the West Village for dinner.”

Actress Katie split from Tom in June last year and their divorce was finalised in August.

The couple share custody of six-year-old daughter Suri.

She had more bad news last week when it was announced Dead Accounts would close early due to poor ticket sales. At least she’ll have more evenings off to spend with her new man.

  7. GERARD BUTLER

    In Rehab [update]

12:04 PM PST -- Gerard's manager, Alan Siegel tells TMZ, "Gerard left Betty Ford early this morning and he's healthy."

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Gerard Butler is being treated for substance abuse at the Betty Ford Center ... TMZ has learned.

Butler's problems were triggered by the physical demands of shooting "300" in 2006 (see video below of Gerard preparing for the role). We're told the actor began struggling with pain management, and the problem became exacerbated while filming "Of Men and Mavericks," when Butler was badly hurt on December 18 during a surfing accident.

We're told Butler realized he was relying too much on prescription drugs and decided to head off a full-blown addiction by entering Betty Ford three weeks ago.

Sources tell TMZ ... Butler also developed issues with cocaine, but the root problem appears to be the injuries and pain management.

We're told Butler will be leaving Betty Ford later today.

  8. Good point. He has sucked since the 80's...exception Bowfinger and Boomerang. I just remember his recent Oscar Nom, I think it was for Dream Girls and he was so pissed he lost, he left. So I was hoping for a little snark, cattiness...since he's probably going to be up for anything for some time.

Can't get behind Hugh Jackman...that was odd seeing Wolverine, Mr. Action man...doing a song and dance...i mean...really, really, enjoying doing a song and dance. :4biggrin:

Maybe this is the time for NPH? Paging Neil Patrick Harris??

  9. I understand what you are saying about the movie being out of theaters at oscar time, but this fiasco is happening now when the movie is in the theaters.

Sorry about the lack of diversity, I just find a prime time censored for tv Murphy not funny.

Does Puss need to have his fur . . . . .?

I hear you. But I think he'd be a hell of a lot better than last years hosts, Dazed (James Franco) and Confused (Ann Hathaway). Movie's officially a flop...so any controversy won't help it.

    Puss..mmmmm...Tyler.

  10. First, what did Brett Ratner say??

And Eddie is closeted, so did he quit to prove he's straight?? Or something else going on?? I don't get why he quit just because Brett did (even knowing they just made a movie together). ??

    1) Apparently the word "fags"

    2) As I understand it, the only reason Eddie was doing it was because Brett was producing and had asked him. Once Brett was gone, the reason for Eddie saying yes was gone too.

As for Murphy leaving? Meh. Who really cares?

The most ironic thing about this whole fiasco is that it will drum up a ton of free publicity for Murphy/Ratner's new movie.

Actually, I kinda do. I'd like to have a host who can be catty and not kiss butts of people there. Eddie might've fit it, since he's not pursuing any award. Diversity is also a great thing as well.

The publicity...isn't really helping the flick. It will be out of theaters by Oscar time and this weekend, It got beat by Puss In Boots...normally it's Puss getting...oh, I digress... ;)

  11. Kutcher pleads for media honesty in new video

Amid reports that he cheated on Demi Moore, actor goes after the 'status of truth'

Ashton Kutcher has been plagued by tabloid stories saying that he cheated with a woman named Sarah Leal in San Diego last month.

    By Tim Kenneally

    TheWrap.com

LOS ANGELES — Ashton Kutcher still hasn't directly addressed tabloid reports that he cheated on wife Demi Moore — but he's certainly perfecting his ability to tease the public via social media.

The new "Two and a Half Men" star — who's been plagued by tabloid stories saying that he cheated with a woman named Sarah Leal in San Diego last month — seemed to allude to the scuttlebutt about his marriage Wednesday in a rambling video monologue. The video, posted to social media site chime.in, called for more honesty from the digital-age media.

He says the lower cost of publishing has led to a cheapening of values, and that truth is suffering.

"I just wanted to open up a little dialogue in the state of honesty, the status of truth as it pertains to literature and media," Kutcher begins.

The actor goes on to note that, in the Internet age, anyone can be a budding media mogul. He says that's not necessarily a good thing.

"The threshold to have literature printed and distributed — the cost structure went down to zero dollars," Kutcher reflects. "Thereby, there is no gatekeeper of the truth. We are our own editors, and we are our own publishers. We are our own printers. Thereby people can bastardize the truth in any way, shape or form they want and spread that around the world ... There's that old saying that a lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth can leave someone's lips."

Kutcher — who's almost as well-known for his investment in developing technologies as he is for his acting — wraps up his video by calling for a sense of responsibility.

Though neither Kutcher nor Moore has spoken about the divorce reports, both appear to have alluded to them on Twitter. In late September, Kutcher cryptically tweeted, "When you ASSUMME [sic] to know that which you know nothing of you make an ASS out of U and ME." Moore, meanwhile, offered her own vague-but-titillating missive, tweeting a picture of herself with her eyes closed and the caption, "I see through you."

  12. Lohan late for first day of community service

    By Michael Martinez, CNN

updated 3:18 PM EST, Thu October 20, 2011

Lindsay Lohan must work two shifts a week at the Los Angeles County morgue until a probation revocation hearing in November.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Actress Lindsay Lohan missed her first day of community service at the Los Angeles County morgue Thursday, one day after a judge rebuked her for similar failures, revoked her probation and forced her to post $100,000 bail.

"Lindsay arrived at the morgue approximately 20 minutes late and will be returning for orientation tomorrow," said her publicist Steven Honig.

"Her lateness was due to a combination of not knowing what entrance to go through and confusion caused by the media waiting for her arrival," Honig said in a statement. "Lindsay spoke with the supervisors at the morgue. They showed her how to get in, and everything is all cleared up."

Chief Coroner Craig Harvey said Lohan failed to show up on time -- 7 a.m. PT Thursday -- to the coroner's office.

Though she arrived late, Lohan was turned away because there wasn't enough time to complete her hours for the day, officials said.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner ruled Wednesday that after Lohan posted $100,000 bail for her probation revocation, she had to perform two working shifts -- or eight hours a day -- twice a week until her probation revocation hearing November 2.

Lohan's tardiness Thursday doesn't mean she is turned away from the program, Harvey said. If Lohan shows up Friday on time, she will be allowed to work and perform her community service, Harvey said.

The coroner's office will dismiss Lohan from her morgue duties only if she does something "terribly" wrong or shows misconduct, Harvey said.

Sautner revoked probation for Lohan because of her failure to comply with community service at a downtown Los Angeles women's center.

Under Sautner's ruling, once Lohan made bail the same day, the actress now must perform 16 hours of community service a week -- over a minimum of two days a week -- at the county morgue before her probation violation hearing next month.

Lohan, 25, was on probation after pleading guilty in May to stealing a necklace from a Venice, California, jewelry store. She served five weeks of home confinement ending in June for that misdemeanor theft and violation of another probation.

Lohan's legal woes began in 2007 with two drunken driving arrests and have been compounded by her failure to attend counseling classes and her failures of alcohol and drug tests. Her current probation calls for her to perform 360 hours at the Los Angeles Downtown Women's Center and 120 hours at the county morgue within a year.

But the judge expressed anger Wednesday at Lohan's repeated probation failures. She said Lohan posted nine absences at the women's center since her last court hearing July 21 -- and performed, at most, only two hours of service.

Lohan's attempt to perform community service at a nearby Red Cross facility -- instead of the women's center -- was voided Wednesday because the judge said she didn't authorize that change.

After the hearing, Lohan publicist Honig released a statement: "Lindsay is hoping this matter will be resolved on November 2 and the court will reinstate probation and allow her to continue fulfilling her community service."

Lohan's estranged father, Michael Lohan, told HLN's "Issues With Jane Velez-Mitchell" that his daughter needs "a very, very intensive" program of rehabilitation for substance abuse.

"What the judge did, she had to do," he said Wednesday. But he said jail time would not be the proper remedy.

"She's not going to be working the morgue. She's going to wind up in a morgue if someone doesn't do something to get her help," he said.

At one point during this week's hearing, Los Angeles city attorneys Lisa Houle and Melanie Chavira asked the court to revoke Lohan's probation and impose jail time because of her failure to do community service. One of the city attorneys said Lohan "is in violation for getting herself kicked out of the women's center, which she was ordered to do."

But Lohan's attorney told the court that the actress received "a glowing" probation report, which said that "Ms. Lohan has reached a turning point" in her behavior and maturity.

The judge raised several questions about the reliability of that report, however.

Sautner remarked how the probation report showed Lohan had excused absences from community service between September 9 and October 5 so that she could travel to New York, Milan, Italy, and Paris for work.

But a psychologist's report said Lohan had perfect attendance for counseling every week, the judge observed.

"The psychologist said she appeared in person for her counseling every Tuesday," the judge said. "I don't know how she did that."

"Did she go to Milan for five days and come back in time or go to Paris for five days and come back in time?" Sautner asked the defense attorney.

"If she was gone from September 9 to October 5, did she get beamed across the pond? I don't know how that happened," the judge said.

Lohan's attorney, Shawn Holley, told Sautner that she didn't know the specifics of Lohan's psychological appointments, but the attorney said the arrangement did call for phone conferences.

Holley added that Lohan's work in Europe was done to support her and her family -- and affected her ability to carry out the community service.

"Because the work is out of the county, it did cause a disruption to her schedule" to do community service, Holley said.

Lohan's community service at the county morgue won't be easy, the judge noted.

"They don't mess around and you show up and do what they tell you to do," Sautner said.

Lindsay Lohan Gets Probation Revoked, Led Out of Court in Handcuffs

    abcnews.com

Lindsay Lohan was taken into custody today.

Lindsay Lohan was handcuffed and taken into custody after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Saunter revoked her probation stemming from her January shoplifting case. Saunter set Lohan’s bail at $100,000 and set a probation violation hearing for Nov. 2.

Lohan arrived in court on time, wearing a flowing white dress and scarf. She wore her hair pulled back in a ponytail; her face appeared heavily made up with blush, eyeliner and lipstick.

Saunter lambasted the 25-year-old actress during the 40-minute long hearing. At issue: Lohan’s termination from the Downtown Women’s Center and decision to do community service at the American Red Cross instead. In July, Saunter sentenced Lohan to 360 hours of community service at the Downtown Women’s Center, a safe haven for L.A.’s homeless women.

“Ms. Lohan’s actions deliberately made it impossible for her to perform her sentence at the Downtown Women’s Center,” Saunter said, referring to Lohan’s hectic work travel schedule. Saunter said she “will not give her any credit” for Lohan’s work at the Red Cross noting, “nobody has the power to change my sentence.”

Saunter said that when Lohan got terminated from the Downtown Women’s Center, “she should have immediately enrolled in the morgue.” “It’s eight hour shifts, they don’t mess around,” she said of the morgue. “You show up and do what they tell you to do.”

Saunter made frequent reference to Lohan’s inability to fulfill a seemingly manageable sentence.

“You’re praising her for completing 12 hours in six months when most people could do that in one or two weeks,” Saunter told Shawn Chapman Holley, Lohan’s lawyer. “A year is a generous amount of time and the way I can count, she’s got 57 out of those 60 days left to do.”

“Probation is a gift,” Saunter said. “And there’s something called looking a gift horse in the mouth.”

At one point, Saunter read from Lohan’s probation report that explained why she didn’t enjoy working at the Downtown Women’s Center. “Her words: ‘The service was not fulfilling.’ Is that what a sentence is about?,” Saunter asked. “It’s to fulfill the defendant?” She paused before answering her own question, “No.”

“We all can’t be fulfilled by what we do,” Saunter said later.

Holley had a bail bondsman at the hearing, but even if Lohan is released on $100,000 bail, she’ll have work to do before heading back to court on Nov. 2. Saunter decreed that Lohan “do a minmum of 16 hours at the morgue,” if she bails out. “That’s two days between now and the hearing date.”

  14. 'Hung' Star Thomas Jane Admits He Turned Tricks With Men

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 3rd 2011 3:20PM

Thomas Jane plays a male prostitute on the show 'Hung,' and it turns out he has some real-life experience in that arena.

"Hey, you grow up as an artist in a big city, as James Dean said, you're going to have one arm tied behind your back if you don't accept people's sexual flavors," Jane told the Los Angeles Times. "You know, when I was a kid out here in L.A., I was homeless, I didn't have any money and I was living in my car. I was 18. I wasn't averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?"

Jane plays divorced dad Ray Drecker in the HBO comedy 'Hung.' Struggling to get by, Ray turns to prostitution to get some financial stability.

Jane's character has never slept with a man on the show, but he made headlines in September when he told Vulture, "I told HBO, the year I end up with a penis in my mouth is the last year of the show."

The comment caused some backlash toward Jane and now in response, he's opened up about his past.

"You're a lot more open to experimentation as a young man," he said. "And for me, being a young artist and broke in Los Angeles, I was exploring my sexual identity. And probably because of my middle-class, white blue-collar upbringing, I would have never had the opportunity to confront some of my own fears and prejudices had I not been hungry enough to be forced to challenge myself in that way."

  15. I actually like the choice as well....not because I'm hoping for the comedic genius of old, but because he's going up there without worrying about pissing anybody off in the Hollywood establishment. That's been one major problem with Oscar hosts, balancing their jokes with ass kissing. I think he'll do alright, probably not too hilarious...but definitely enough to keep a great interest, while being a little catty.

Besides, he can't do any worse than Franco and Hathaway.

Crazy, Stupid, Love -- More Important Than the Title Might Suggest

Spending almost two hours in the dark with Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone, enjoying their trials and travails, their growth and their romance, is really so much fun that you're to be forgiven if you don't realize, by the time you walk out, that you've just seen a very important film.

I wouldn't think of spoiling the big reveals of the movie for you. But let me let you in on the worst-kept secret of Hollywood Romance Movies: they all follow a formula. It's such a common formula that most of us can recite it by heart without even knowing it. We are like Ralph Macchio in Karate Kid. We've seen it so many times that we know it by rote without necessarily knowing that we know it.

This movie is so gentle, the acting so spot-on, and the directing so sensitive and textured, that you might miss the fact that in several distinct ways, it offers a fresh, new model for romantic comedies. The writer, directors, and actors have managed to sign on to a concept, and deliver a product, that feels so comfortable and enjoyable that we don't even notice that we've been given something truly new for a major studio tentpole romantic comedy:

We've been given something to think about.

We've been given an opportunity to think about our dreams, and how our romance connects to that. About the motivational and personal power that comes from our passions and desires, even if unrequited. We've been given an opportunity to wonder about the role love can play in our future and not just our present. We've been given the chance to muse about how our own movie should end, even as we accept and enjoy the mysterious and strangely mature delight of how this one did.

And along the way we see some of the most memorable scenes we've ever seen from actors of the caliber of Carell, Gosling, Stone (oh, wow), and even Marisa Tomei, under the amazingly deft direction of the best pair of directors in town -- Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Dan Fogelman, the writer, has written a beautiful script but he must be in love with his directors. And when you see it, I think you will be, too.

I actually don't think I want to say any more about the film. I just hope you'll see it, and enjoy it as a present to be unwrapped on Christmas morning. And don't just stop after removing the wrapping and say oh, what a pleasant box. This is a movie that suggests it's time we open the box, too.

  17. Showboating Steven Spielberg fined for angering holidaymakers as he took Gwyneth Paltrow out on his £220m yacht

    By Nick Pisa

Last updated at 11:54 PM on 25th July 2011

Billionaire film director Steven Spielberg has been fined by Italian coastguards after his speedboat came too close to the coast and annoyed holidaymakers.

Triple Academy Award winner Spielberg, 64, was with actress Gwyneth Paltrow, when the incident took place after they took a trip in his speedboat while on his £220 million luxury yacht Seven Seas.

Angry sunbathers called police and coastguards because of the noise from the tender's powerful outboard motor after the director ventured to close to the shore and breached maritime regulations.

Coastguards were quickly on the scene at La Maddalena, a picturesque beauty spot off the north east coast of Sardinia, which is renowned as being a millionaire's playground.

Contrite Spielberg, whose films include Jaws, Shindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, immediately apologised telling coastguards: 'I'm sorry. I'm Steven Spielberg. I didn't know the rules. It's only right I pay.'

Officials said that the following day a fax arrived at their headquarters in Palau with a photocopy of the postal order proving the 172 euro fine had been paid.

Spielberg has been holidaying in the Mediterranean aboard his 280ft yacht Seven Seas and his tender had breached the 900ft exclusion zone from the shoreline and so was liable for the fine.

Coastguard Vincenzo Petrella said:'When we arrived at the scene there was a bearded gentleman signing autographs for people on the beach - we had been called by holidaymakers because the tender was so close to the shore.

'I recognised him instantly and he came up to me and said 'I'm Steven Spielberg. How can I help ?' I told him that regulations forbid tenders coming within 300 metres of the shore.

'I said that I had no other option but to fine him. He was very apologetic and even offered to pay there and then but I explained I could not take any money from him and it had to be paid via a post office account.

'He took the paperwork and the next day a fax arrived at our office confirming that the fine had been paid.'

Gwyneth "Gooped" about how she still had to work hard in this business...guess that also she also works hard to keep your uncle's Yacht from getting to close to shore and getting fined.
