  1. Both statements are lovely. There’s no need to compare and contrast. I don’t think William’s statement was a dig at Harry. Both of them mentioned Phillip’s life of service. The public service line is mentioned in almost any statement/speech made by the royal family about themselves, actually. It’s a long standing justification for their existence.

  2. I got my second Pfizer shot on Tuesday. After the first dose I had minor side effects (mostly it triggered a migraine) but I was hit hard with side effects after the second dose. I felt like I had the flu. A fever between 100 and 101 degrees, chills, headache, muscle aches all day Wednesday then miraculously woke up Thursday morning completely fine. Zero symptoms, normal temperature. It was not a pleasant experience but so worth it. It pretty much confirms what I already thought, that if I had gotten COVID I would not have been asymptomatic or just gotten a cold. At the very least I would have had flu-like symptoms and at worst I would have needed to be hospitalized.

Winner, winner!  I couldn't believe it - I never would have guessed her parents.

I only recognized her because I watched the last season of Real Housewives of Beverley Hills due to a need for absolute mindless fluff at the beginning of the pandemic and Sami made a couple of appearances (Denise was a cast member).

  4. I read The Handmaid’s Tale and loved it. I watched the first season of the show and liked it too. I think it’s one of the better adaptations of a book, though the book is still better.

Speaking of book adaptations, my husband and I have been watching His Dark Materials on HBO because I loved the books and the show came highly recommended, but neither of us is impressed by it. The pacing is off and I hate nearly every change they’ve made to the story. The show has created so many plot holes that don’t exist in the books. Also, Lin Manuel Miranda is horribly miscast as Lee Scoresby, IMO. I’ve heard it’s better than the movie version but I’ve never seen the movie so I can’t comment.

Next we’re going to watch Watchmen. I read the comic book just before the movie came out (though I never ended up watching it) but I don’t remember anything about the story or characters now.

  5. Donald and Melania should be on there. After hearing those tapes and what her former friend who leaked them had to say I think Melania likes being Mrs. Donald Trump even if she doesn’t seem to like him much (based on her body language not anything the friend said). I do think she’ll leave to protect assets, though, or if staying means she’ll have to live in exile in Russia/Saudi Arabia/etc. but I no longer think she wants out of the marriage. But a lot of people believe their divorce is imminent.

  6. I haven’t seen a lot of coverage of her since her first pregnancy. I vaguely remember her first being a boy but I haven’t heard anything about her since. She’s not a royal herself so she’s a lot less visible. Plus the British tabloids after first propping her up for a few weeks after Will and Kate’s wedding then tore her to shreds for years afterwards. Even the coverage of her wedding was laced with negativity. She may now be a little more reluctant to court the publicity than she once was.

  7. I’ve posted the New York Times article on it below. It explains a little more of the context. This meltdown was obviously for a way better reason than Christian Bale’s rant all those years ago, and I get the anger, but I still don’t think it’s right to yell at people the way he did. There are much more appropriate ways of communicating.

Tom Cruise Erupts at ‘Mission: Impossible’ Crew Over Covid-19 Breach

On a film set in Britain, the actor tore into the crew with an expletive-laden rant. Production of the blockbuster film had previously been delayed by the pandemic.

The actor Tom Cruise recently erupted at crew members on the set of “Mission: Impossible 7” over a breach of Covid-19 protocols in an apparent effort to prevent further disruptions to a film whose production has already been delayed by the pandemic.

“We are creating thousands of jobs,” Mr. Cruise, the star of the film, can be heard saying in a leaked audio clip that is littered with expletives. “I don’t ever want to see it again! Ever! And if you don’t do it, you’re fired!”

The recording was published on Tuesday by The Sun, a British tabloid, and its authenticity was confirmed by two sources close to the film. One source said that Mr. Cruise had been speaking to members of the “Mission: Impossible 7” crew about a breach in Covid-19 protocols on the set in London, and that further details were not immediately available.

Mr. Cruise apparently became enraged after spotting two crew members standing together at a computer screen, in violation of an on-set rule requiring people to stand about six feet apart, The Sun reported.

Paramount Pictures declined to comment, and The Sun did not say when the recording of Mr. Cruise, 58, had been made. Reuters reported that the filmmakers for “Mission: Impossible 7” — the latest installment in the 24-year-old series — arrived in London earlier this month.

In February, production on the film was shuttered in Venice, Italy, amid a raging coronavirus outbreak in that country, Reuters reported. Production resumed in September, and has since moved between Italy, Norway and Britain.

Production was paused again in October after 12 crew members on a set in Italy tested positive for the virus, Variety reported.

The leaked audio is of Mr. Cruise addressing about 50 staff members at a Warner Bros. film production complex in Leavesden, northwest of London, The Sun reported. The tabloid said that the actor wears a mask on the set and has been personally enforcing Covid-19 rules, an effort to prevent further delays in shooting.

In the leaked clip, Mr. Cruise told the crew that the production was the “gold standard” for Hollywood, and that he had been speaking with studios, producers and insurance companies who were all “looking at us and using us to make their movies.”

He said he would not accept any apologies for what had happened on the set, an apparent reference to the breach in Covid-19 protocol.

“You can tell it to the people that are losing their homes because our industry is shut down,” Mr. Cruise said, adding an expletive. “It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education.”

The sixth film in the series, “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” was released in 2018 and took in $791 million in global ticket sales. It was also filmed in Europe, among other places, and its production was delayed after Mr. Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt in which he slams into the side of a building.

That's gonna suck for those of us who live rurally with few vaccine options and no rapid testing options.....(not that I go to concerts these days, BUT I have 2 seasons tickets worth of touring Broadway shows at our "local" - 30 miles away - performing arts center that I hope to be able to see some day.....)

I’m not going to live shows either and probably won’t until a vaccine becomes available but I do have tickets for My Fair Lady, which I was supposed to see last August and have now been pushed to November 2021. I’m so bummed about not being able to see it last summer. I have always wanted to see it on the stage.

I doubt she ever gets out of the conservatorship situation.  Her BP is apparently very severe (I'm guessing Type 1).  In addition people's body chemistry changes and the medication (even if she is taking it as directed) can be come ineffective and they have to start trying new combos of meds - basically she'll be a human chemistry set for the rest of her life.

Conservatorships have VERY extensive reporting that needs to be made to the courts on a regular basis.  As the conservator, you would have to be VERY good at embezzlement in order to get away with it.  And with such a high profile case and the amount of money involved, you know they comb thru everything - I can't imagine anyone would think the jail time if getting caught would be worth the risk.  Now if you are a vendor (not the actual conservator) it would be easier, but still...

These "free brit" people really have no idea how BP works.

The Free Britney stuff makes me super uncomfortable too. No matter how it looks on the outside, so much is kept confidential that we really have no idea what’s going on. If things were as bad as they appear on the surface, then there’s no way the court would keep Jamie on as conservator. They must be seeing something we aren’t. This case is very high profile and there are a lot of eyes on it. If there were any financial abuse I don’t think it would go unnoticed. Britney has the means to fight it unlike an elderly person of average means with dementia. I don’t think people understand how hard it is to deem someone so impaired that they need a conservator.

  10. I also think there will be protests no matter who wins but I’m actually more scared of the protests if Trump loses. Not only is Trump going to encourage violence, but his supporters have shown more of a willingness to use guns and explosives.

I mean, when you date for 5 yrs and then get engaged......It should really last, shouldn't it? But what do I know about human nature.

You would think except I think a lot of the time people get married to try and save their relationship. Brad and Angelina come to mind, and there are many others. You can never tell if someone is just taking their time to make sure they’ve found the right person or if there are problems and they think marriage will solve things, which it never does.

  12. 2016 was a low turn-out election. In fact turn-out was at a 20 year low. In general, republicans win low turn-out elections. 2020 is looking to be a high turn-out election, which generally favors democrats. It would be an easy victory for Biden if it wasn’t for the disenfranchising electoral college.

There are going to be protests no matter who wins, however, I’m more worried about the protesting if Trump loses. His supporters have shown more of a willingness to use guns and explosives. I still want Biden to win but it’s going to be scary if he does because Trump will not only refuse to stop the violence he’ll encourage it.

And your vote actually counts because you’re in a swing state. Yay.

What is your sense of the senate race?  Cunningham is such an idiot. If he loses democrats will never forgive him because it will be his own fault. Having an affair during a close campaign. Ugh.

  14. She spiked a fever this afternoon. I was hoping it was just a cold. She’s been back at preschool since July but until a couple weeks ago it was only five kids. They’re now up to 12 kids again. I can’t imagine she got whatever this is anywhere else because she doesn’t really socialize with anyone else. I’m really hoping it’s not COVID but the fever makes me more concerned It is. Regardless, I get everything that comes through here so I expect to come down with it in the next couples days.

  15. My four year old came down with a super stuffy nose last night accompanied by a cough last night. The cough went away in the morning so I suspect the cough was due to the post nasal drip running down her throat while she was lying down rather than anything in the lungs (yet). No fever last night or this morning. I’m getting her tested for COVID-19 today. Hoping it comes back negative. I miss the before times when these mild symptoms would be no big deal.
