    Does anyone read historicals?

Ah, Lady Jane. I think I was a junior in high school when that movie came out. All of the girls of a certain type (nerdy, Anglophile, AP English), myself included in all groups, were aflutter about that one. To this day, Cary Elwes from that era is the top of my Freebie Five list. I'll have to check out Elizabeth Freemantle.

"“You mean to tell me that this girl with this f***ing body and this face is also into style, and she’s a nice person, and she has her own money and is family oriented?” he said of his wife. “That’s just as cool as a f***ing fighter jet or dinosaur! And just as rarely seen.” Interesting the qualities he values most in her, and the qualities he doesn't attribute to her. I think after the embarrassment of the last marriage fiasco, if they aren't working out, they will just keep up the facade and continue spending their lives apart. It will be one of those separate lives until someone gets busted by the press and they have to split to save face.

    Kindle Unlimited

FYI, I just went through the list of books I currently have on hold through Overdrive and my local libraries. I live in Northern VA and we have multiple public library systems in our immediate area, so we can belong to all of them for free - i belong to 4 and they all have different holdings through Overdrive. Of the maybe 12 books I have on hold, none of them were available for Kindle Unlimited. I'll probably hang onto my free library account and hope Kindle Unlimited doesn't ruin the library program the way Kindle LendMe basically killed my Nook LendMe.

Huh. I might finish the library books I have out now and give the 30 day trial a go. The audiobooks might make it worthwhile IF they are audible format and not tied into the kindle app. But just flipping through the list I'm seeing no current titles. Even Overdrive has current titles. I think this will possibly like Netflix streaming which never has the movies I want to see.

    The Classics

Part of the reason for my starting with multiple apps was redundancy in case anything crashed. Now it's just become my own special brand of OCD. All of them backup in some way, but Book Crawler is my favorite. I like having it on my phone in my purse when I find myself at a store/library unplanned.

    What are you reading?

Apologizing in advance for replying from my phone so grammar rules be damned! I just finished Frog Music by Emma ... something, the same author who wrote Room. I was interested in the true-life mystery, but didn't like her characterizations. I had a hard time with Room, so I'm not sure why I read another of her books. Currently I'm reading Top Secret Twenty One by Janet Evanovich. It sucks, but I'm 21 books into this series and need to see it to the end. I'm audiobooking Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. The tv show starts next month and it's been so long since I read the books, I thought a reread was in order. The next two books in my library bag are the new JK Rowling (pseudonym unremembered) and Book of Life by Deborah Harkness, the final book in a trilogy. My kids are 13 and 10 now so my reading life has improved a LOT. I will admit that I read for pleasure at this point, not scholarship, so it's not as impressive as it sounds. Not many heavy duty books on my lists. My yearly reading challenge is 75 books. Last year I got to 94, but usually I get somewhere in the 60s.

    The Classics

I used to keep an excel spreadsheet and then i had columns to review the book and enter in when I read it, etc. The problem is that it was locked on my PC. I do use goodreads, mostly for the social aspect of sharing books with friends. I also use an app called Book Crawler. It has all of the same fields that my excel chart had, and more. I challenge myself to read 75 books per year and I can create a macro to keep me updated on progress, etc. not to mention sometimes I don't want my goodreads friends to know about my addiction to crappy historical romances. My initial idea was to put my whole book collection into Book Crawler so I would quit buying the same book twice. I looked around at my house full of books and got overwhelmed. So I just track purchases and wants from the time I started the app. I can use the iPad at home and send it to the phone for when I'm out. Because I'm a freak, I also use an app called Read More. You track your reading sessions and while it tracks the books you read, it also gives you your reading speed and tells you how much time it should take you to finish reading. I do pretty well with the lists of "must read" books, but there are always books I haven't read. It's a never-ending quest. To add to our "similarities of posters on this thread" I majored in English literature and minored in French Literature. I now express my craziness by taking my kids on day trips to visit all of the Little Free Library locations in my town, leaving Boockrossing books around, and hosting American Girl Bookclub for my daughter. My 10 year old bought me this for my birthday as a serious gift. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0035LYMG4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1405691006&sr=8-1 They get me.

My phone app won't let me edit the post. Here is the light I have. I think the fifth picture shows how it slides into the outer edge of the case and folds away. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007MLLKDG?pc_redir=1405402865&robot_redir=1

I have this M-edge case, but I got it in blue and purple on eBay for about $5. It matches my daughter's Nook case. She's 10 and matchy-matchy is exciting. The edge of the case has a very slim pocket that the M-edge light slides into (also bought for cheap, probably on Amazon). She has a nook simple touch and I have the original nook with the screen at the bottom too. Having also been a several-thousand book collector, I'm well covered in ereaders. I actually like the Nook, but library borrowing is cumbersome on it. http://m.staples.com/touch/product.html?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:408344&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=408344&KPID=408344&sk_test=a#408344

I have the plain kindle and I just use a clip on light at night when I need one. As for the special offers. I don't find them intrusive at all. I basically don't even notice them. They are just a screensaver, and when I pick up my kindle to read, I just click wake and it goes away. Definitely not a big enough deal to pay extra to remove them.

With as much grief as publishers have given to libraries and overdrive (and the libraries are indeed buying the rights to the books) I am surprised that they are so willing to do these services at all. I get most of my kindle and audiobooks from my public library. The newest best sellers usually take a while to get, but I have a 50 book long to-be-read stack just from this year already, so I can wait. I buy books when they go on sale and then just cycle them in when I haven't gotten anything good from the library.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Engagement

I'm going to learn how to use emojis just for this post since it makes me so sick! Kim Kardashian has expanded her empire to now include video games, and it's proving to be a smart move for the 33-year-old reality star. Kardashian's first iOS game, "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood," is already on track to earn over $200 million, reports Bloomberg News, citing industry-trend analysts. Since its June 25 release, the game ranked as high as second in the most-downloaded free-apps category, is the only title among the top 10 in the App Store with a five-star rating, and shares of the game's creator Glu Mobile Inc. have gone up 42%. It might be our biggest game of the year, CEO Niccolo de Masi said in an interview. Were not surprised. Kim is a one-of-a-kind talent with an incredibly precise fit to the game engine that we tailored but already had in the company. Bloomberg reports that the Kardashian game "takes users inside Hollywood, guided by a virtual Kim who offers advice on how to become an A-list celebrity, starting from the so-called E-list." One of Mrs. Kanye West's helpful tips? Dating famous people will get you more fans, too. "While the game is free to play, the goal is to get users hooked on in-app purchases such as clothing or a burst of energy needed for traipsing through Hollywood," according to Bloomberg. "Users can spend as much as $99.99 for 175,000 virtual dollars. A trip to Beverly Hills costs 4 game 'dollars,' while 400 will buy a necklace." Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2014/07/03/chris-martin-consciously-uncouples-from-being-vegetarian/ Chris Martin isn't just done with Gwyneth Paltrow, it seems he is done with being a vegetarian too. Martin revealed he decided to drop the veggie eating habits, but he still encourages the pair's 10-year-old daughter, Apple, to eschew meat. ADVERTISEMENT While being interviewed on BBC Radio 2, the 37-year-old singer said, I am not really vegetarian. I eat meat. I was vegetarian for a long time but, for various reasons, I changed. My daughter has been a vegetarian since she was born. I keep getting tempted to go back to vegetarianism but I dont eat too much meat. Martin said changing his diet was a personal decision. "The honest answer why I changed is because I thought you can only eat something that you should be able to kill." "I mean, could you kill a fish? I wouldn't like it but I probably could eat the fish . . . or a giraffe, he joked. Martin and Paltrow announced back in March that they had decided to "consciously uncouple."

    Britney Spears

She just seems so sad and fragile. I have this image of her kind of wide-eyed and hazy doing these routines in slow mo. The fact that she is do utterly insulated from reality kind of supports the fragile theory. I don't envy her father one bit.

I'm sure, without a doubt, that they consider this child to be the peer of Prince George and are treating her (albeit in a money can't buy class way) the same.

    The Kardashians

It is my fantasy that someone here gets a free copy of that Kim Kardashian iphone app so that we can skewer it mercilessly without giving her a dollar of our support. PLEASE let it crash and burn. PLEASE. I really want these two to be humbled.

FAQ: How to post Emoticons (smilie faces)

When I post, I just get a blank text box with none of the things shown in that image. Maybe because I'm almost always on my ipad and it's different for mobile users?
