http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latino Wikipedia has a nice overview. Typical american usage--Latino is someone from latin america (mexico, central america). Hispanic refers to someone of spanish-speaking origin--so can refer to Spain as well as "latin" america. Mexican is someone of mexican (the country) descent. Chicano/a is an american of mexican descent. NB: I learned the definitions/usages because I studied demography, not because I am hispanic/latina/chicana--so my understandings of the terms are academic. Someone who is Latino might be able to give a more personal response.

Don't they mean flattering software?? No lens on earth could erase her skin damage......And I think even in candlelight she'd look haggard. She's skinny, so the clothing still looks good on her (esp. that corset--wow) but her face--yikes! It's amazing she's my age.....

Does anyone read historicals?

Hmm, off the top of my head I can't think of any non-romance Regency period but I'll think some more. Most of the mysteries I read that are historical are earlier..... -

Oh yeah, I watched Tipping the Velvet a couple months ago--very good. Might have to look up those books! I came back from vacation to get a voicemail that the new Lauren WIllig is waiting for me at the library -
Yeah, I'm thinking the reason she's banned is less that she's made fun of Barbara and more that she'd upstage all of them because she's so funny Yes, I'm a big Kathy fan

Ok, I've read 2/3 of all the Eloisa James by now (they're somewhat uneven-some are really good and others are very superficial and not that interesting) I am totally addicted to Lauren Willig's books--read the first 3 in the past two weeks and am DESPERATELY waiting for Thursday, when the 4th book is supposed to be released I'm bummed Julia Quinn doesn't have anything new out..... -
Well, along the lines of the earlier comment about some women liking the sexy and wearing heels despite the discomfort--maybe some women like to show off their pregnancy and don't want to wear baggy clothing. This wrap dress looks like a jersey knit, which is EXTREMELY comfortable--I would wear it all the time if I could (and esp. if I had enough money to afford the really nice stuff, like the silk DVF jersey wraps )

Fey's expression is awesome!!! I saw a close-up just of her face--the best of all the new shots!!

I remember when (as a local) I could get discount tickets and see the movies and maybe have an extra special spotting if the actors in the movie made an appearance. What a difference 13 years makes

A few, and the common guesses for hair plug related items are always Travolta, Ben Affleck, McBongo, or Brendan Fraser

If I'm boycotting an actor, is there a time I can watch their movie and not have the numbers reflect well for him? Like, if Men in Black pops up on cable this weekend and I watch it, should I feel guilty? I haven't seen any movie in a theater in years, and not even that many rented dvds (esp. not Tommy Girl) But what about cable??? Is that "allowed"??

I have a bunch of Jennifer Crusie books from the last time I went to a used book sale--I'm definitely taking a couple of those on my next trip! I finished Sammy's Hill a few weeks ago and started Sammy's House this morning. In between, I read a couple Eloisa James books, an Elizabeth George, and.....Oh--Evelyn Waugh the Loved Ones. Not crazy about it But it was recommended by someone here, so I gave it a try. I still love his writing style--just didn't like that story. I'll read more--want to read some of his travel stuff.

I have it on my list at the library but if they don't get it in the next 2 weeks, I'll buy it so I can take it on a Feb. business trip

I loved her Highlander series--not quite as violent, more sex & love And history.....

I thought Courtney looked a little better than I've seen her in the past (arms & legs are rounded, not gaunt...She has a butt!)

Lainey always said the same thing about Jessica dating John Mayer--that he had shame face because he was letting his dick make decisions

I'm holding on to Secret History by Donna Tartt for the same reason.....I'm not sure exactly when I'd have more time to read since I already manage to go through a few books a week, but I guess that particular book requires more concentration or something..... That is one of my favorite books ever! It is well worth finding the time to read it! I got it because my best friend loved it and I've tried three times to get beyond the first two chapters and it's just not working for me.....

I read that book a few months ago (finally). Give it time as it's very slow for the first 100 pages or so. I'm glad I persevered with it. It's a bit predictable in parts (IMO) but a good concept overall. It is slow in the beginning. Thanks for the encouragement. I was considering giving up on it. We had quite a discussion of this book somewhere on the thread--other people were considering giving it up. I'm one of the few who adored it pretty much from the beginning, so I would encourage you to stick with it. But if it's really not your thing, there's no shame in just stopping We've talked about that here too I'm reading Bloodfever, book 2 in a new series from Karen Marie Moning. Sort of a Buffy the Vampire slayer but for Fae, takes place in Ireland. I like this sort of thing

Rosie might be a lot of things (some I like, some I don't) but I never thought she was a bad parent. For the most part, her family is kept out of the spotlight, and I think in general that's a very good thing.

Rumor is she's recovering from chicken pox. I saw the photo yesterday with all the kids wearing ear protection and thought back to the photos of Suri Cruise at the Spice Girls concert without ear protection.....I'm surprised Posh couldn't lend some to her "best buddies".....
-
Jamie Lee Curtis--a few years ago--insisted on being photographed in her undies with no airbrushing--it was for Good Housekeeping or some other "women's" magazine? Or Self.....Geez, I wish I could remember. I loved the photos! Of course, she's out of Hollywood these days, a Lady and a children's book author, so she probably doesn't give a hoot how she's perceived by people who would hire her or go to her movies....

But at one point (and who knows now) Tori has several million dollars worth of reasons to impregnate her--don't you think a doting billionnaire grandpa would shower them with presents??

And Tori Spelling's husband, whom Lainey calls K-Fed Jr....

I guess my counterpoint, Bobby (although I do agree with what you say) is--if the woman weren't famous and somebody knocked her up, would we care? These guys only get press because the woman is famous--how do we know they wouldn't be doing the same thing even if she weren't famous. Cash Warren could have been screwing some PA and knocked her up and they could have lived in blissful anonymity for the rest of their lives. But since he knocked up a famous "actress", we're making fun of him for being a golddigger. This line of thinking I'm on right now makes me sorry for famous people. You never do know if people like you and are with you because of WHO you are or who YOU are. If that makes sense without my voice inflections....Only a little sorry, but still.....
