    Election Year 2016

Numbers are just sooooooo high now compared to 2016 at the same time. I really hope we get the best turnout ever, by a huge landslide....

    Ellen DeGeneres

Eh, she & Portia have been "on the verge of divorce" for what, 8 years now?? Or even since they married? (2008, I had to look it up 😉

    Election Year 2016

https://www.cbs17.com/news/your-local-election-hq/breaking-down-the-record-setting-numbers-on-day-1-of-one-stop-voting-in-nc/?fbclid=IwAR2IxGw0b4TwZWFC1-HRtg6UollXTGxQRNi-sW3XGltqiQxZayZbzfYbgA8 Some great data (and I always love a Tableau data visualization 😉 Democrats are a third of registered voters in NC but half of the early voting so far. My husband just said he heard that repugs were ahead in terms of voter registration but I haven't seen those data....

    Ellen DeGeneres

On the other hand, Ellen is KNOWN for flipping houses and not staying in one for any length of time. Sure the "blind" is about her, but I'm not sure how true it is....

    Election Year 2016

Senate race is very tight based on all polls. More democrats are voting early - not sure what will happen come election day. Not too bad on mail-in ballots being rejected but one county is statistically MUCH higher than others - esp for african american ballots - but it's been publicized so hopefully fixed. Courts ruled AGAIN that you must allow redress for these rejections up through election day (ie they're provisional so if it's not accepted, go find out why and FIX at board of elections office....) Tillis isn't well loved, so we'll see. Fingers crossed! SOOOOOOOO much money in that campaign - I think they broke records again, sadly.

    Election Year 2016

I voted today! Still can't upload my photos though. Boo. I tweeted it though - see if the link works? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EkdInzeWAAMbx1B?format=jpg&name=small

    What are you reading?

I didn't like Sex & Vanity as much as the first trio - Crazy Rich Asians etc - but he's a good writer and I enjoyed it. I ADORE Eloisa James 😍 Dropped off library books today. Didn't expect to go in but I did. Oops. Found 4 books to take home. I've had a bunch reserved on kindle through the library but they've updated the system - I can request a "redelivery" if a book on hold becomes available and I don't have time to read it..... Next up - most recent Jim Butcher book in the Harry Dresden series - Battle Ground. Last book - if anyone wants a lovely queer historical romance - Cat Sebastian is a great author. Alison Weir's fiction series on Henry VIII's wives - up through Katheryn Howard now.

    Baby Boom

Billie Lourd & her fiance have a baby boy. Article says they didn't announce they were pregnant but I think I knew. Searched this thread and nothing here though. https://www.accessonline.com/articles/billie-lourd-welcomes-baby-boy-named-after-late-mom-carrie-fisher-see-the-first-photo?utm_source=laineygossip.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=pubexchange_module

Looks like everyone enjoyed the holiday season - HOW MANY pregnancies have been announced this week? Are we up to 5?

    Baby Boom

Mindy Kaling had a surprise baby boy, Spencer, on Sept 3 - see, those who keep it quiet, keep it QUIET. https://www.eonline.com/news/1176870/mindy-kaling-reveals-she-gave-birth-to-baby-no-2

Tony Randall, Alec Baldwin and Mick Jagger setting the standards for David Foster to follow re: senior dads.... Also don't think we've noted that Mandy Moore is pregnant? https://people.com/parents/mandy-moore-pregnant-difficult-first-trimester-food-aversions/#:~:text=Three days after the singer, including various "food aversions."

So the bras I HATE now were just from her "flatter" period? 😆

    Baby Boom

Apparently Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's newborn has died. Devastating news for them. https://www.cbs17.com/entertainment-news/chrissy-teigen-john-legend-announce-death-of-newborn-baby/

    Baby Boom

I think the people who've been private have always been private and those who are not....Are not. Chrissy's entire brand is oversharing and the fact Legend loves her because of/in spite of that ? I also think that the pause in tv/film/music production means this was a VERY good year for a lot of people who want kids to go ahead and do it.....

    Coronavirus

Oh no!! Fingers crossed everyone just has normal pre-school kid germs!! It's allergy season (again) here in NC. A couple weeks ago, I was very stuffed up, coughing etc - but also a little itchy eye so I was pretty sure it was allergies. But I'm totally paranoid!

    British Royals

Yeah, we have the earlier curfews/alcohol stops being served as a way to prevent late night drunken crowds, esp in college towns. Makes complete sense - it's not the virus they're fighting, it's human nature. And drunk human nature is touchy feely as hell ?

    Netflix

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!! I texted one of my best friends who was in Belgium with me (actually because the song Ca Plane Pour Moi came on the alt channel I was listening to on the tv and I wanted to know if she remembered dancing to that and I drifted to OMD) and she said that her singing Enola Gay got her family to go up to DC to Udvar Hazy (the Smithsonian Air & Space museum extension out by Dulles airport) to see the real Enola Gay! I laughed and said when we went to see it, I couldn't stop singing that song and hoped I wasn't singing out loud in the museum..... That's the sign of a good pop song, right? So damn catchy it's always ready to get stuck in your head! I just finished a book (Age of Consent by Amanda Brainerd) in which one of the protagonists proclaims Blue Monday by New Order to be the best dance song ever. Not sure I agree but it's certainly up there. The book was very weird for me - I lived a lot of that life (well, adjacent to that life, and a couple years younger) so I enjoyed it, and it was well written. But in the end, SUPER judgemental and that really bothered me.

    Netflix

I can't stream netflix at home (live in the country, satellite internet, super expensive data & slow download speeds) BUT I really wanted to watch Gilmore Girls so I am doing the free month trial and watching at work this week (slow work week!!!) I watched Gilmore Girls, then Wet Hot Summer: first day of camp. Am now watching The Crown. Wow. I just watched the Graham Norton episode that Clare Foy and Matt Smith were on - they were cute. I didn't love Matt Smith as Doctor Who (I will never love anyone as much as David Tennant) but I have to say I am loving him as Prince Phillip!!!

    British Royals

and just the other night, Eugenie & Beatrice out partying giving yet more bad optics to the royals. (well, hopefully not actually "partying" as in drinking, but apparently since the UK is going to have to lock down bars/restaurants again, not very good to be seen out at an exclusive club with bodyguards trying to block photos with umbrellas....)

    Baby Boom

Gigi Hadid had a baby girl over the weekend. Rachel McAdams pregnant with #2. And Emma Stone looks like she might be pregnant as well. But not officially.....

    2020 Emmys

We loved Schitts Creek from the beginning - but we watched from the beginning because "weird" comedies are smack dab in the middle of our wheelhouse.

    Netflix

Enola Holmes comes out today on Netflix - very excited to watch (probably this weekend). I know I'll be singing "Enola Gay" by OMD the whole time. Can't help it. Not related at all but once it's in my brain, it sticks.....[that song used to play in the clubs when I lived in Belgium in 1992 - really weird to have a an anti-nuclear bomb dance song, but there you are - OMD also has a dance song about Tesla, so....]

Dixie - I hope your son has a mild case and no longterm impacts!!! I am devastated by the loss of Justice Ginsburg.
