    Jessica Alba

In Ted's (?I think) column today they also mention Cash Warren is a Yale grad. So--not just college, but an ivy league. I'm just happy he has a degree (yes, it did say "graduate" not just "attended"--I know what to look for, cynic that I am )So when her "acting" career fails, maybe he'll be able to earn money for the family. Did say they met while he was the director's assistant.....

    Uhhhh...DUH!

I agree that Marilyn and Rita were gorgeous and that today's actresses are skinny minis in comparison. I just wanted to point out it was disingenuous of that article to call Marilyn Monroe a size 14.....

    Uhhhh...DUH!

But the manufacturers measurements from a 1950 size 14 and a 2007 size 14 are WAAAAAAAY different

    Oprah Winfrey

Well, as I've stated my dislike for Oprah elsewhere, this makes me ignore Obama more than I normally would.....Oh well. I'm an odd demographic not affected by her I guess

    Johnny Depp

I think Paradis has a really unique look (ok, that's redundant) Sometimes she looks beautiful, sometimes "striking", and--in the photo Freckles just posted--she looks normal. I like her. And I think they make a great couple

    Fergie/Stacy Ferguson

Even further off-topic--I like Ellen Pompeo when she's casual (the photos of her with new hubby at the basketball game are what I mean) but yeah, on Grey's Anatomy she looks like crap and on the red carpet she usually looks like crap.....

    Looks like Ellen Pompeo.....

    Dolly Parton

I love Dolly Parton too! (but then, I like country music--esp. the old stuff or the new "alt-country") The bluegrass stuff she does--amazing! My favorite Dolly Parton quotation is about people thinking she's a dumb blond--I know I'm not dumb, and I also know I'm not blond

    Ellen Pompeo

Good for her for actually saying she was having a small wedding and carrying through with it. Proof you can stay out of the public eye

    Broadway Industry News

From Page Six 11/8/07 'lion' Smells "LION King" audiences at the Minskoff have been sniffing the sweet scent of marijuana. It turns out the pot-head fans of former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, who's doing a nine-day stint at the Nokia Theater next door, were lighting up. "The smoke was so thick it was seeping through the wall and into the Disney audience, and they started complaining," a spy at Monday's show told The Post's Bruce Golding. "The ushers are now very vigilant and making sure nobody lights up." A Nokia rep admitted there were complaints. The Minskoff had no comment.

    Evangeline Lilly - Dominic Monaghan

Yeah, but even the bars that used to serve Lindsay made her go to the alley to smoke

Thought you couldn't smoke inside a bar in California? I'm calling bullshit on that sighting.....

    Julia Roberts

I'm actually incredibly lazy, and I call myself a Darwinian gardener--I don't coddle plants --they either survive on their own or I replace them (I mean, I water, esp. when they first start growing, but I'm not the kind of person that recreates a tropical jungle in her non-tropical yard or anything) I envy people with beautiful gardens & vegetable patches. Of all the multimillionnaire stars in (or out) of Hollywood, Julia Roberts is one I actually could see doing a little gardening (I mean, she already knits ) Yes, she's still romanicizing it, but I really could see her spending a weekend playing in the yard. Maybe it's because I've seen photos of her with unwashed hair, no makeup & sweats grocery shopping--that's a pretty "normal" thing to do.

    Julia Roberts

Yeah, not her most flattering cover I like her hair better darker, too. Oh well. I still like Julia Roberts

I grow lots of food. I have a huge pile of manure in my backyard (thanks to my farmer neighbors) and I have a tiller and fencing to keep out animals, etc. No animals (I contemplated chickens for a while--easy to gather eggs) but the awful smell of chicken poop dissuaded me. I get great satisfaction from what I grow myself, so I can totally understand her desire to at least try it. At the same time, I have the luxury of having money to buy food if my garden crops fail, and I don't produce everything we eat--just a small sample. So I'm guessing Julia's plans for her future are far more like mine than they are like my (and golden*girl's) farming neighbors. I still don't think there's anything wrong with that

    Julia Roberts

I think she's been fairly quiet since she got pregnant with the twins. She's worked very little, done the promotion required for that work, then gone back to New Mexico. As far as "superstahs" go, I think that's pretty low key!

    Does anyone read historicals?

PS My mom just gave me her Christmas list and she wants the full set of the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series--says used paperback is fine--so I might have to check out all the websites mentioned here I've been using Thriftbooks.com mostly. There's another I can't find the website for right now--it's the California public libraries (can't remember if it's CA or just a county/city in CA) to raise money for the library system--I'd far prefer to support them if I can only find the bookmark--can't remember which computer it's on

For me, it's Costco--I don't ever go to bookstores (way too much temptation) but I'm in Costco at least once a week for groceries and I often find a book thrown into my cart I got some GORGEOUS popup books (works of art!!) for all my nieces & nephews for Christmas too, though

I am lucky with the library--esp. since I live in a very small county with pitiful funding. But the library consortium is good, and the staff at our library make quite a difference. I've lived near some crappy libraries too, but the first thing I do when I move to a new place is get a library card--can't help it! Since I rarely buy new books, and tend to buy quick reads at book sales & tag sales, etc. the home shelves aren't overwhelmed--those paperbacks are the ones I like to bring on vacation and leave behind. Another great thing about our library is that I can renew stuff online (or by phone) if I need more time. Plus I'm a quick reader so I don't usually have problems. I've found that if I can't get through a book by the time it's due back at the library, chances are it's time for me to give up on that book (hey, I can add that in the other thread about how do you know when it's time to give up on a book )

I'm a big fan of the public library--I get the majority of my books there--they order stuff and do inter-library loans for almost anything I want--it's great! I've been on the board of the Friends of my library for years--give my tax deductible charitable donation once a year and feel better about all the work I put them through.

There's a reason I take my shoes off when I drive--esp if I'm wearing anything awkward!

    Scarlett Johansson

A lock of hair is about as far as you can go without becoming freaky, that's my opinion. And even a lock of hair can be a little over the top. Oh well--I guess it's something you can give to the rich hollywood actor who has everything
