Suge Knight!

Recommended Posts

June 23, 2007. (AP) MALIBU, Calif. - Marion "Suge" Knight's seven-bedroom, 9 1/2-bath home has been placed on the market for $6.2 million, part of the rap music mogul's financial overhaul under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The 8,272-square-foot Mediterranean-style mansion was built in 2001 and is located on a 6.79-acre lot in the hills above the Pacific Ocean. It has access to two beaches and is being sold with an additional 2.11 acres of land.

The gated property, which includes a pool and tennis courts, was listed earlier this month by Coldwell Banker.

An Internet listing notes that the home is being sold "as is," and its sale is subject to approval by the bankruptcy court.

Knight sought bankruptcy protection for himself and his record company, Death Row Records, in April 2006. He claimed debts of more than $100 million in each filing.

At the time, Knight estimated personal assets of zero to $50,000.

Calls to Knight attorneys Laurence Strick and Daniel J. McCarthy were not immediately returned Friday.

In the 1990s, Death Row was home to recording artists such as Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

A witness tells us Suge Knight was at Las Vegas' Ghost Bar on New Year's Eve getting a lap dance when a wag at the table next to him yelled, "Isn't that the guy who shot Tupac?" Suge pushed the girl off his lap and gave the heckler such an evil look he thought it was advisable to leave the club.

Suge Knight Appeals For Judge To Overturn $130 Million Ruling

Hip-hop mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight is urging a Los Angeles judge to dismiss a $130 million ruling against him, alleging it is fraudulent.

The former Death Row Records boss was ordered to make the payout in March 2005 to singer Lydia Harris, after she accused him of forcing her out of a job despite helping to set up the notorious music label with her then-husband Michael 'Harry-O' Harris. The case never went to trial, but the ruling was made after Knight's attorneys broke various court rules and failed to make the star's financial records readily available to the prosecution.

But Knight's legal team filed an appeal in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday asking for the previous ruling to be overturned, after new evidence came to light of Harris and her now incarcerated ex's criminal past.

The suit claims Harris concealed information about her own financial difficulties during court proceedings in 2005, and did not reveal to the court that she had filed for bankruptcy five years earlier. During that time, she also failed to stake a claim in Death Row, prompting Knight's lawyers to become suspicious of Harris' actual intent.

Knight himself filed for bankruptcy in April 2006 as a result of the multi-million dollar ruling, reports SOHH.com.

Rap mogul "Suge" Knight named in gang crackdown

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has been named by police as a member of a notorious gang in a crime-plagued suburb of Los Angeles.

Knight, best known as the co-founder of the rap label Death Row Records, was one of some 200 people named as members of the Mob Piru street gang in a crackdown by authorities in the city of Compton, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday.

Knight, who was raised in Compton and spent five years in prison, said that including his name on the list of gang members was a "publicity stunt" by police.

"This is crazy," Knight told the newspaper. "I'm a 42-year-old businessman, not a gang member. I don't even live in Compton anymore. This injunction lists people who are already in jail -- and at least one guy who is long dead."

Gang violence in Compton, a working-class suburb of about 90,000 people, has long been a popular subject for rappers, including the seminal 1988 N.W.A. album "Straight Outta Compton."

Authorities there say Mob Piru members have been terrorizing the neighborhood with drug dealing and shootings and are seeking an injunction that would ban gang members from gathering there.

Knight, whose Death Row label released a string of top-selling rap albums in the 1990s, was famously driving rapper Tupac Shakur when the rap star was killed in a 1996 drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.

Later that year, Knight was sentenced to prison for violating his probation by beating a gang rival in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

Suge Knight To Find New Talent In Reality Show

Hip-hop mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight has launched a search for fresh musical talent with a new reality TV show.

The Death Row Records founder will feature in Unfinished Business, which will follow Knight and his proteges as he builds his new label, Blackball Records.

The series will also see Knight reveal details of his dealings with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre during his time at Death Row, reports AllHipHop.com.

He says, "It ain't like the fake reality s%^t. It's a lot of stuff going on but you gotta watch the show to see what it is. It's like real life.

"So whatever it is it's real life. If you see me in Compton, I'm in Compton. Watts, South Central, Inglewood wherever the f%^k it is. No matter where it is. We do it how we do it."

And Knight is confident the show will have a broad appeal: "The show is ridiculous. It's hot. I think everybody is gonna watch it. From East to West coast. I think everybody is gonna watch it."

No official airing date has been given for Unfinished Business, but Knight promises it will be shown "sometime soon". /WENN

'Suge' Knight faces Vegas drug, battery charges

Tue Nov 18, 7:43 pm ET

LAS VEGAS – Marion "Suge" Knight is facing criminal charges in Las Vegas, stemming from an incident in which police found the hip hop mogul allegedly beating his girlfriend just off a busy thoroughfare.

Knight is charged with two counts of felony drug possession and one count of misdemeanor battery, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Las Vegas Justice Court.

The complaint filed by the Clark County district attorney's office accuses Knight of striking a woman identified as Melissa Isaac. Police say they arrested Knight in August after they saw the founder of bankrupt Death Row Records beating the woman while brandishing a knife in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip.

Authorities said the woman wasn't stabbed, but was treated at a hospital for injuries. The complaint says Knight was carrying Ecstasy and hydrocodone when they arrested him. Knight was later released after posting $19,000 bail.

Defense attorney Richard Schonfeld said Knight planned to enter a not guilty plea at his arraignment Dec. 16.

"We're going to vigorously defend him against these charges," Schonfeld said.

Knight could face mandatory probation and up to four years in a Nevada state prison on each of the drug charges. He could be sentenced to up to six months in jail on the battery charge.

Knight's Death Row Records was known for releasing seminal gangster rap albums by Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. It sold tens of millions of albums in the heyday of early 1990s rap.

In 2006, a federal judge ordered a bankruptcy trustee takeover of Death Row Records, saying the label had undergone gross mismanagement. Knight's decision to file for bankruptcy protection staved off a move by the court to appoint someone to take control of the record label and his assets.

The record company was auctioned in June for $24 million to New York-based Global Music Group Inc.

Marion 'Suge' Knight in car crash

Marion "Suge" Knight's ongoing legal spat with Kanye West has been delayed after the mogul was forced to miss a court date following a serious car accident.

The former Death Row Records boss is suing the "Stronger" rapper over a 2005 incident when he was allegedly shot in the leg and robbed at an event hosted by West.

He was due to arrive in Miami last week for a deposition in the case but was forced to skip the date because of his injuries.

His lawyer Marc Brumer tells the Miami New Times, "He was in a pretty serious car accident. He lost a couple of teeth, he's in pain, and he can't speak."

But Knight, who wants West to pay his medical bills, remains determined to win their dispute.

Brumer adds, "He's (Knight) a very adept businessman. He's a mess, but he's sharp. Nobody likes Kanye West anymore. Even though he's still selling millions of records, everybody's sick of him."
