Naomi Campbell

Recommended Posts

Supermodel Naomi Campbell was furious when she landed in Australia Thursday because she mistakenly thought a Qantas airline employees had tipped off the press about her arrival. Campbell had flown from Bangkok, Thailand, to Sydney and let loose on a flight attendant trailing her with her luggage trolley.

The volatile supermodel, who has a history of abusing her assistants, told the attendant, "F**k off! I am never flying Qantas again!" The airline confirmed Campbell was on the flight, but were baffled as to why she was so angry.

According to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Campbell was under the mistaken impression that Qantas had tipped the media off, when, in fact, the newspaper's reporters were at the terminal for another story when a passenger on her flight told the media that she was about to emerge from the arrivals gate.

Campbell first told the press that she was in Sydney on a "private engagement... a funeral" before screaming, "F**k off! Respect my privacy!" The airport tantrum is the latest in a series of outbursts from the supermodel, who is currently facing the possibility of a seven-year jail term in the US for allegedly throwing a phone at her former maid. A Qantas spokesman says, "We are not aware of any issue Ms Campbell may have had on her Qantas flight. And we've looked into all angles from departure to in-flight and arrival."

Naomi Campbell is due in Manhattan Criminal Court today to face charges of allegedly smacking her maid Ana Scolavino with a crystal-encrusted BlackBerry. Meanwhile, Australians are saying they feel safer than ever flying Qantas now that Campbell has sworn never to use the airline. Miss Thing reportedly screamed, "F- off! I am never flying Qantas again!" at a flight attendant in Sydney Thursday. The potty-mouthed poser apparently assumed it was a Qantas employee who notified the swarm of press of her arrival from Bangkok. A local paper revealed it was actually a fellow passenger.

Naomi's Court No-Show

E! Online

Apparently, Naomi Campbell won't get out of bed for anything less than a misdemeanor. That's on top of the $10,000-a-day.

The 35-year-old catwalker failed to show at a court hearing Wednesday morning to face charges of assaulting her former maid with a cell phone last March.

Which is an odd absence, considering all previous reports on the supermodel leave one with the impression that she's nothing if not a stickler for manners.

Campbell was due in Manhattan Criminal Court to face the second-degree assault charges brought by Ana Scolavino last spring, but was MIA for the hearing this morning with nary an explanation as to why.

The judge issued a bench warrant for Campbell's arrest, but later retracted it after the strutter's attorney, David Breitbart, said that the prosecution was aware the supermodel would be a no-show and had agreed in advance not to seek her arrest.

While Breitbart refused to divulge why exactly the hot-tempered looker was absent from the hearing, he did note that it was not due to professional reasons. The non-explanation seemed to tide the judge over in the hearing, though he warned that, should she again fail to appear in court next month, the arrest warrant would be reinstated.

"I want to make it clear that she is absolutely obliged to appear at the next hearing," Judge James Gibbons said. "If she fails to appear on that court date, the warrant will go into effect."

With any luck, the revised court date won't be necessary.

Breitbart told the court that Campbell was considering a plea bargain from the Manhattan District Attorney's office, but again refused to disclose any details about the would-be deal.

The charges stem from an altercation between Campbell and Scolavino on March 30. According to the former housekeeper, Campbell confronted the 41-year-old employee in her Upper East Side apartment, accusing her of stealing a pair of designer jeans.

Scolavino claims that she denied the thieving allegations, at which point Campbell threw a cell phone, hitting her in the back of the head and causing a gash so large it required a trip to the Lenox Hill emergency room and four staples.

As for Campbell, she claims that if anyone is the victimized party, it's her.

Reps for the globetrotting model said shortly after her arrest last spring that the accusations of assault were "retaliation" and that Campbell had fired Scolavino earlier that morning for "erratic behavior" and routine thieving.

Since the incident, two more former employees have come out of the woodwork to capitalize on Campbell's alleged striking streak.

She was sued by former maid Gaby Gibson, who claims her one time employer struck her last January over yet another pair of missing jeans, and Gibson's housekeeping successor, Amanda Brack, who claims the professional poser struck her with a Blackberry and slapped her in the face last February after allegedly misplacing a piece of Campbell's luggage.

Of course, fielding allegations of head trauma at the hands of the market's latest PDA are fairly de rigueur for the supermodel.

Apparently, what Michael Jackson is to child-molestation allegations, Campbell is to sue-happy assistants.

In 2000, Campbell pleaded guilty to hitting former personal assistant Georgina Galani on the head with a telephone not once but twice, for which she doled out an undisclosed settlement.

In 2004, Campbell's former maid, Millicent Burton, claimed Campbell slapped her across the face while in the confines of her Park Avenue apartment.

Last year, Campbell was again sued by a former administrative assistant, Simone Craig, who claimed, like those before and after her, to have been struck by the supermodel in her alleged body part of choice--the head--by her alleged weapon of choice--a telephone. Upping the litigious ante, Craig also claimed to have been held captive by the famous face.

As for the case with Scolavino, the supermodel is due back in court Nov. 15 for the rescheduled hearing. If convicted on the criminal charges, the British-born Campbell could face up to seven years in prison and deportation.

Slap Naomi with new assault charge

STAFF AND WIRE SERVICES

LONDON - Guess no one ever told Naomi Campbell that "pretty is as pretty does."

The catwalk queen was arrested yesterday on suspicion of assault after another woman charged that the supermodel attacked her, police and media reports said.

The mercurial model is already facing an assault charge in New York for allegedly bashing her maid in the head with a jewel-encrusted cell phone.

And that's just one in a long series of allegations that Campbell has gone medieval on the help after blowing her top.

Police in London said a 36-year-old woman was arrested yesterday afternoon in a home in the Westminster area after another woman accused her of assault.

A police spokesman declined to identify the woman taken into custody, but British media said it was Campbell. She was later released on bail, Sky News reported.

The Sun newspaper reported the woman who filed the complaint was Campbell's drug counselor and that the therapist said she was "scratched all over her face" by the hot-tempered model.

Campbell's spokesman said there had been a misunderstanding.

"We are sure it will all be sorted out when the police investigate," he said. Discovered at age 15, London-born Campbell was the first black model to appear on the covers of Time and the French and British Vogue magazines.

But the sinewy siren's beauty has at times been overshadowed by reports of outrageous temper tantrums.

Campbell is facing an assault charge in Manhattan for allegedly smashing a jeweled cell phone into Ana Scolavino's head last March because the hapless maid couldn't locate a pair of jeans.

The diva failed to appear for a court date in September, and the case was rescheduled for Nov. 15.

In 2000, Campbell pleaded guilty in a Canadian court to grabbing another assistant by the throat and hitting her on the head with a telephone.

The cranky catwalker seems to have a thing about phones. In June, her ex-maid Gaby Gibson of Queens filed suit claiming Campbell whacked her in the head with a cell phone on Jan. 17.

In July, yet another former assistant, Amanda Brack, filed suit, contending Campbell spat in her face, beat her bloody with a BlackBerry and flung her passport into a pool.

Naomi Campbell Returns to U.K. Police HQ

AP

Naomi Campbell returned to a police station Thursday after allegedly being involved in an altercation the day before, police and news reports said.

Metropolitan Police had said Wednesday that officers were called to an address in central London in the afternoon and arrested a 36-year-old woman at 1:20 p.m. She was released on bail.

Police declined Thursday to say whether Campbell, 36, was involved. But in response to inquiries about her confirmed that "a 36-year-old woman" had returned to a police station Thursday morning and was released on bail until an undisclosed date in December.

The force has a policy of not naming people who have been arrested unless they are charged with a crime.

A statement from the Outside Organization, which represents Campbell, said, "We believe there has been a misunderstanding. Once police have investigated we are sure this will be resolved satisfactorily."

Campbell admitted in 2000 that she attacked her personal assistant Georgina Galanis. The model paid an undisclosed sum to Galanis and was not convicted of a crime.

Naomi Steals Show At Polish Fashion Do

The only thing Naomi Campbell does better than give hired help a beat-down is strut down a cat-walk. The British beauty with the problematic police blotter proved she can still rock some stilettos on the catwalk this past week when she strutted her stuff on the runway in Warsaw Poland, showing off designs by Agnieszka Maciejak. Naomi wore a series of remarkable floor-length gowns, including a slashed-to-the-thigh frock in lime green satin, and a sheer purple chiffon number and sported a new wig--er, I mean hairstyle (a short bob), while photographers flashed away. Interviewers waited for three hours to speak with the 36-year old supermodel, who has been working in the business since her discovery at the tender age of fifteen.

Girl, you may be crazy. You may even be sociopathic. But despite your criminal record, your stellar performance on the catwalk for this last challenge was so awe-inspiring that you are still in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model. (Pause.) Even though you're British.

Naomi Campbell's 3-day birthday party earlier this year in Dubai, has yet to be topped. Although Paris Hilton has come close. Campbell is the only African-American to have a million dollar event at "Burj Al Arab," the world’s first seven star hotel! The party cost $1.8 million. One of Campbell's gifts was a gigantic diamond ring from a member of the royal family. The day after the party, Campbell and her friends were transported by submarine to the "underwater restaurant" in the hotel.

Naomi Campbell has reportedly agreed to appear on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in a bid to show the world she does not deserve a reputation for aggressive behavior. On Wednesday, the British supermodel was cleared of attacking her former counselor - but she still faces lawsuits from former employees who allege they were physically abused by her.

A friend tells British newspaper The Mail On Sunday, "Naomi and Oprah have been friends for a long time and have been talking for a while about her coming on the show." Former maid Gaby Gibson claims Campbell beat and racially abused her earlier this year (06), while former housekeeper Ana Scolavino alleges she threw a mobile phone at her in January (06). Campbell's former assistant Amanda Brack is also suing the beauty for verbal and physical abuse.

Naomi "Bam Bam" Campbell versus Oprah might be tamer than you'd think. The word is that Naomi has agreed to appear on the show. Oprah has apparently been trying to coax the British model onto the show for "awhile."

But the appearance would require a break in the allegations of physical abuse including using implements of destruction including "projectile appliances" and verbal degrading.

All I have to say is "O" better be armed with Vaseline and straight razors cause you know that bitch is crazy enough to turn on a friend.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has reportedly handed out $390,000 in an out-of-court settlement to actress Yvonne Scio, the former friend she allegedly assaulted.

Scio claimed Campbell pushed her against a wall at her suite in Rome's Hotel Eden in July 2005, scratched and punched her face repeatedly, and verbally abused her.

She claimed the cuts she sustained were so serious she needed hospital treatment and was unable to give interviews to promote a film she'd just made.

The case began at Rome's Tribunale Civile in December (06), with Campbell facing a potential sentence of a year in prison and ($1,960) fine for insulting Scio, and a potential six months in jail and a ($392) fine for the assault. Court staff confirmed the case was settled on Tuesday, saying, "An agreement has been reached and damages have been paid. This means the charges against Naomi Campbell are dropped."

Naomi heads to Brazil for a spell

What a ... witch. Naomi Campbell sought spiritual solace with a leader of the Candomblé religion in Brazil on Thursday, a day after being sentenced in Manhattan Criminal Court for chucking a jewel-encrusted Blackberry at her maid's head.

The long-legged but short-fused supermodel flew to Rio to be named an ambassador to the city by the mayor and attended a birthday party for Tuca Franchini, a "father saint," sometimes called a witch doctor, whom the Brazilian press called "Naomi's guru."

The 36-year-old stunner has been close with the socializing spirit guide since at least 2003, when she got him VIP treatment at a Macy Gray concert there.

The Encyclopedia Britannica defines Candomblé as "the most African of Afro-Brazilian sects" with many deities who "have distinct, often capricious personalities" and with "rituals that include offerings, dances and animal sacrifices."

Perhaps Campbell should have avoided the chicken hearts she'd eaten at lunch in Porcao on the beach at Ipanema.

At the party, despite wearing a cluster of healing crystals around her neck, Campbell lashed out at videographer Fred Pontes, "who had been collecting interviews from guests in the style of weddings," Brazil's Veja magazine reports.

"He pointed the camera at Naomi and she began to scream that he should hand over his film. Immediately surrounded by girlfriends of the model, the photographer had no option than to hand over his tape. Naomi then locked herself in a room, where she only departed after many appeals by the hostess" - socialite Ariadne Coelho.

Brazil's O Dia newspaper had its own eyewitness report of the hissy fit. Meanwhile, Veja mag adds that Campbell's reps brought her over to Rio Mayor Cesar Maia and state Gov. Sergio Cabral "to repair her image." Campbell obediently did what she does best: Pose. And she recovered enough to hook up with hospitals tycoon Leo Alves.

Campbell was in Europe by Friday, after her lawyer David Breitbart argued before Judge Robert Mandelbaum that, should she lose modeling fees, it would be like paying a huge fine.

She's due back in New York for five days of community service and anger-management classes. Again.

She needs more than just a spell. Spells do work, but you have to work in harmony with them. A witch doesn't put a spell on you and then the wish is granted. No, Ms. Cambell, work in harmony and then people around you will like you. First step, be nice to camera people.

Campbell To Guest Star on 'Ugly Betty'

Hit show Ugly Betty will soon welcome a real life supermodel on the award winning series - Naomi Campbell will star on the small screen playing a "loony" fashionista. The fiery beauty, who recently pleaded guilty to assaulting her housekeeper with her mobile phone, will make her TV acting debut on the fashion magazine-based show later this year. She says of her role: "On Ugly Betty I'll play a loony who loves to shop and can't find a man. I like that sort of role." The show picked up two Golden Globes last Monday - Best Television Series (Musical/Drama) and Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series (Musical/Comedy) for America Ferrera.

Naomi denying Brazil sect's appeal

Naomi Campbell called yesterday - no jokes about flying cell phones, please. The supermodel was a perfect lady, even as she made her complaints about newspaper stories in Brazil, England and here that she is interested in Brazil's African-based Candomblé religion, which has rituals some have likened to witchcraft.

"I'm Church of England, Protestant. I was christened that," Campbell told us. "I went to a party for a guy whose birthday it was [Candomblé priest Tuca Franchini].

I don't discriminate against what religion people have. That's what he does, but it doesn't mean I have to be involved in it."

But Franchini told the press three years ago that Campbell had gotten tickets for him to a Macy Gray concert. Said Campbell: "I got 35 tickets for people, and I did the same thing for U2 and Lenny Kravitz ... I gave them to my girlfriend, and I don't know who she invited.

"I went to Rio last week for a meeting for Fashion Rocks, which will be there April 7. I'm on the committee. And I'm doing a documentary with Quincy [Jones] there. I was in Rio for 24 hours.

"I didn't know I was going to be made an ambassador for Rio at all. I was totally shocked when the mayor did offer that. I do have a charity there, 'We Love Brazil.' It's to help people in the favelas [ghettos]. The women make crocheted fabrics, and designers from Brazil use them.

"It's been raining in Brazil for 26 days and hundreds of people have lost their houses. The charity gives to people who don't have anything."

We asked Campbell if it wasn't true that she clashed with a videographer.

"The video photographer, when I walked in, put the camera right at my head, so I told him, 'Don't hit me in my head.'

"I was at the party for an hour and 15 minutes, and I was on the dance floor. I wasn't hiding in a room."

The stunner, who was represented by top lawyer David Breitbart and has until May 21 to complete five days of community service for tossing a cell phone that hit her maid's head, told us:

"I'm remorseful and regretful. I'm trying to live my life and do some things for charity. I'm taking my punishment, and I accept that. I've accepted my responsibility and that's that. I have no idea what [community service] I'll do. Whatever they tell me to do, I'll do with my integrity, and that's it."

Is she working on the anger thing?

"I work on myself daily. I work on my program of meditation and prayer and try to stick to it. It's important to me."

We'll give Campbell credit for one thing. Whenever celebrities make complaints here, the B-listers hide and have their publicists do it, but the biggest ones, like

Bill Cosby, Jay-Z and Sean Penn, call themselves.
